I already loved this place but I have to throw them some additional appreciation for their matcha. I've been struggling to find a good matcha latte recently--it seems like every matcha place has expensive, bitter, under blended, gritty matcha these days. Maybe I've become a matcha snob after working at a matcha cafe for like 2.5 weeks, but either way, Outro's matcha lattes stand out and deserve recognition. The only reason why my friend and I came here was because no other place was open in the area for brunch at around 10 A.M. on a weekday and we did not really have any other option but to come here. There were 2 workers behind the counter when my friend and I came in and the place was basically empty aside from one other customer. The taller of the 2 workers gave a weird vibe and it seemed like she hated her job and portrayed a rude demeanor. She was extremely soft-spoken and made it seem like she did not want to deal with us. I ordered the chicken quesadilla since it looked the most visually appealing on the menu and did not seem like an overly overwhelming option for brunch. My order was prepared in about 10 minutes. While waiting, I decided to use the restroom to wash my hands and was greeted with a totally disgusting putrid odor. I think there is a leak or an exposure to a sewage pipe somewhere because the odor was borderline unbearable. As for the chicken quesadilla, it did not seem like something Chipotle could not make. I could had probably gotten this same order at Chipotle for cheaper. Oh wells, lesson learned... I probably will not be back here again. I came here thinking it was similar to a small eatery. I had no idea this was the old Caffe Bene, with the layout exactly the same! Upon walking in, I can already see that its target demographic are young students/adults that are looking to study here. I came here for dinner, after seeing their pasta and waffle menu online. It wasn't so much that I was bothered by the students around me, but it felt inappropriate to eat a full meal while everyone else was on their computers. I come here for the iced flavored coffee things. My favorites are the earl grey and matcha. I don't know what they are or how they make them, but they're beautiful and you can even eat the flower on top (would not recommend). Had brunch here too before and it's a great Smorgasburg of everything you didn't know you wanted. One of my favorite spots to hang out in a less crowded space in a super crowded area (all of the other coffee shops are annoyingly packed.) They play great music when it's Frank Ocean and co. Went through 8 pages of Yelp looking for the perfect place to sit down and have a nice brunch and I am glad to say that I am happy with my finding of this place. Right by union square so it is easy to get to. The ambience of the restaurant/cafe is so cozy and warm. They offer free wifi and there is a bunch of outlets for you to plug your laptops in so it's perfect to sit down to do some work. With a check in on Yelp, you get a free coffee or tea! The food was aesthetically pleasing! I ordered the Ricotta Cheese Waffle and my boyfriend ordered the Morning Breakfast plate. The prices are decent and not too expensive like every other brunch spot especially for the location that it is in. Both the waffle and morning breakfast plate was $9 each. Decided to come to Outro after an event for a nice brunch, and it was okay. I went with my sister, and it was confusing trying to figure out if someone had to seat you since the "seating" line and takeout line seemed to be the same. They had a temperature taker and a sign in sheet, but they didn't really seem to check either of those items. Once someone noticed us, they told us to sit anywhere in the back, and luckily someone just gave up their seat indoors. There wasn't a lot of decor inside, but the outdoor patio was pretty. There was a QR code to their menu that you could scan and pay for with which was cool and it didn't take too long for our dishes to come over. I got the eggs benedict, and I guess I was slightly disappointed. Though tasty, the portions were small. I seemed to get more meat on one than the other and they were both pretty english muffin heavy. The hollandaise was good but I wish there was more of it. The plate it was served on was curved on the bottom so it didn't make the dish easy to cut. However, the poached eggs were cooked to perfection! I think they tried to make up for the smaller portions with the salad, but by the end of my meal, I still felt as though I could eat more. My sister got the bacon avo eggy toast, and though it was good, she also felt as though she was hungry by the end of her meal. She also got the blue lemonade, and it was just okay - more on the sour side and fizzy, which was unexpected. Overall, the experience was okay. I do recognize that some of their other dishes are more popular and aesthetically pleasing, and maybe I caught them on a bad day. Not sure if that's how vengeance works but I tried. The Salmon set for 12 dollars is a ridiculously good deal and outrageously (outrogeously ha ha ha) delicious. During my birthday weekend getaway, my girlfriend and I stopped here for a brunch before heading off to Washington Square Park and World Trade Center. The long wood plate really caught my attention - the two benedicts, a small bowl of soup, pasta, and the salad was plated so artistically that I was so hesitant to dig in. For the food and the hip atmosphere, I would give this place five stars, but I was slightly disappointed with the speed of service. It took us quite a long time to get our food and drinks - 40 minutes for the food and 20 minutes for the coffee. It wasn't very busy when we were there, and yet it took us such long time to get a drink that only takes five minutes at most. As for the food, I'm going to be a bit lenient because there could've been an issue in the kitchen. Another complaint is that they need to wipe the tables frequently. Our table (which was right next to the stairs to the door) had egg stains and coffee stains all over. We had to get napkins to wipe a little bit before we sat down. One unique thing was that they don't turn on wireless internet for customers on weekends. This was something I appreciated - gives more reason for people to actually socialize than be on their devices!
