My husband and I were enjoying the waterfront district during our anniversary trip and wanted an afternoon pick-me-up. We had just eaten at Dough Zone earlier and didn't want anything too heavy. Ovation caught my eye as I was browsing Yelp for drink options. I was particularly intrigued by the Moroccan twists on all of their drinks! I decided to go with a Moroccan Pistachio Latte and my husband went with the Casablanca Cooler energy drink. The staff were efficient and friendly, and our drinks were out in less than 5 min. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were people working remotely at the various tables, and I loved the layout of the coffee shop, with the high ceilings and black interior.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was pretty quiet and the AC was blasting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The spices in my latte were delicious and so fragrant. There was a perfect amount of ice in my drink, and I'm so glad we both got the 24 oz. I've never quite had coffee like this before! I had a sip of my husband's drink and it was very refreshing as well. We sat for a while enjoying our drinks, then took them with us to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the waterfront park. I stopped by Ovation Coffee after a rainy fall run and ordered the pumpkin spice latte, and it was exactly what I needed -- perfectly comforting, cozy, and beautifully spiced. This will definitely be my go-to coffee shop in the South Waterfront region! I love how they have a Moroccan twist to their coffee with an infusion of various spices. I got the Moroccan cappuccino and it was definitely a flavor explosion. They have a breakfast/lunch menu too if you're hungry and I got the Turkey white cheddar panini - the portion size was pretty big and filling so I was even able to save some for later. It was also yummy - perfectly crisped bread and melted cheese! Prices for both coffee and food are very reasonable. The inside is spacious, clean, with lots of natural light. The coffee options are all decent, but the price is a little insane to be honest for what you get. The staff is always very friendly and they always greet you as soon as you walk in and ask if you have any questions which is such a nice touch, especially nowadays. lol been to many coffee shops. Probably the rudest girl I've ever met at any shop actually pretty funny. Was around noon on Sunday.

I went to Ovation everyday for the last 2 weeks of my stay in Portland. It was my first meal and beverage everyday, and I got quite attached! First, the staff is absolutely amazing. They're warm, wonderful people, and part of the reason I looked forward to starting my day here. I also discovered their pistachio latte (I think that's what it was..... I just let them choose for me, and they said this was very popular), which became my daily staple, along with my daily dose of either the turkey sausage biscuit, or one of the chicken or turkey toasted panini sandwiches. I've since returned home to New England, but I'll be back in the near future for more work, and I'll definitely be back here! read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Each of four mornings during my trip to Portland were started by hanging at this industrial, yet pretty coffee-shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was roomy enough inside and out to comfortably enjoy a cup with a friend.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Most importantly, however, the espresso was decently well balanced and milk textures were darn near perfect (across multiple baristas and drinks). Said baristas were all incredibly friendly and helpful, as I like to order things that weren't necessarily on the menu (thanks!) As a more traditional/purist caffeine imbiber, I greatly appreciated all these things. But do not fear! Their menu was quite extensive and should cater to anyone's tastes. Should I ever find myself back in the PDX downtown area near the water, I'll certainly come back to what became a little home away from home. read more

My friend and I stopped in after doing yoga in a nearby park. We needed sustenance. There's not a huge sign out front, but it's tucked in the corner of a big complex. The restaurant was pretty busy, lots of coffee orders and the bakery counter looked like lots of items were popular. They had cookies & scones & other delectables. I opted for the Moroccan Latte'. I've never had one or heard of it, and wanted to try something new. It was smooth, with a good spice flavor. It hit the spot. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches. Spacious coffee shop near the south waterfront area, with plenty of seating and windows. I grabbed my coffee to-go, but this would be a good place to study/work. There's a park nearby, and the area is super walkable as well. I tried the Moroccan vanilla latte for $5.25, which is spiced with "moroccan spices", including cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, anise, sassafras, white pepper. Honestly, I couldn't individually identify each of those spices in my latte, but it definitely had the "fall" spice profile that you would associate with those flavors. It wasn't too sweet, and the milk was well textured. They do have other drink options such as tea, along with various drip coffees, nitro cold brews, and standard espresso drinks. There are also food/bakery items, but I didn't try any this time. Overall, it's a good coffee shop with a broad menu selection, and great ambiance. I like coming here every now and then especially on the weekend in the mornings before I go on my usual routine walk from South waterfront to the Sellwood bridge. It's great to grab a nice warm cup of coffee here and just enjoy the rest of your morning. Great staff and service and the ambience isn't too loud. It's just enough to be relaxing and enjoyable. Oviation Coffee is a stand out! Oh, my! Their specialty is Moroccan drinks and I highly recommend trying the Moroccan spiced latte or Moroccan chai tea. The spice is both delicate and rich in flavor and scent. I've heard the pistachio lattes are incredible but I'm addicted to the Moroccan spice latte and craving it is what brings me back to Oviation coffee over and over again! After passing this coffee shop on my daily walks, I finally decided to stop in and now I deliver walk down to the S Waterfront some days rather than across the bridges just so I can reward myself with a coffee! The freshly baked in house scones are equally incredible, so buttery and not dry at all. Large enough to share but I love them so much that I want mine all to myself. Sorry! Almond croissants are also divine. Strawberry flower shaped croissants are delicious! The only other place I've seen them is Petite Provence. They also serve breakfast sandwiches, one of my guilty pleasures. Sausage, egg and cheese on a biscuit is the best! They also have a great selection of fresh panini sandwiches and other sandwiches. Plenty of eating inside and also out on the sidewalk. Around the corner are some benches. Located on the street level of The Ardea Apartments in the S Waterfront, parking is on the street. Went on the south waterfront... You got to check out this place. If you come early you may be lucky enough to grab one of their fresh scones. These are not manufactured but made fresh daily. Every day there are three or four different flavors. Not super dry like most scones. My favorites so far has been the blueberry peach and the toasted coconut. So so good! :-) I always get a large organic Moroccan coffee as well. The spice is exceptional and special. Love it! I have heard their pistachio latte is absolutely amazing but have not tried it yet. I understand they have a couple other locations in downtown Portland and Lake Oswego. Family owned locally. No drinks have names or any other indication of what they are on them. Sit down. Start eating my biscuit. I'm a messy eater and cheese strings keep hanging from my face. I don't see any napkins at the sugar/coffee tops area. -Do you have any napkins? Side eye response saying if I didn't see any on the counter that they'd bring more out because that's where they're supposed to be. A+ to the other gal that brought some napkins to our table. Love their unique drink flavors! They have a Pistachio latte and iced lemondae tea drinks that are absolutely divine. If you're lucky enough to grab one of their freshly baked scones you will be in heaven by the delicous goodness. My personal favorites are the coconut and vanilla flavors. They usually offer 2-3 different flavors that rotate. The santa fe turkey pannini is also quite delicous along with their breakfast sandwhichs with our all time favorite being the biscuit with eggs and gyro. Staff is always so friendly and welcoming and we love stopping by when we are in the area. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating as well. Perfect for grabbing coffee with a friend or special someone. Stopped by before Doctor's appointment for a quick lunch. Caprese panini was delicious! Nice and crispy outside but inside cheese melted perfectly with little bit of tasty balsamic vinegar. If they added fresh basil, this would be over the top. The panini is big enough to share. Since this was my first time, I wanted to try coffee or espresso beverage but it was too late in the afternoon and was worried about not being able to sleep tonight. Got the decaf Moroccan Chai which has nice spiced flavor but smooth texture. Definitely want to come back and try other items on the menu. Love finding local spots. read more
