Ovelia is one of the best Greek restaurants I've been to in NYC. Everything we ordered was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The Greek coffee-rubbed skirt steak was incredibly tender with a unique smoky flavor, the smoked lamb was juicy and delicious, and the branzino was fresh, flaky, and perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff made the experience even better with their friendly service. Whether you're craving authentic Greek cuisine or celebrating a special occasion, Ovelia is definitely worth a visit
Ovelia has a stand in the Bryant Park Holiday Market in Manhattan. They have a variety of Greek bites. They seemed to feature the Halloumi fries. Ovelia had one of the shorter lines. So I decided to try them. Halloumi is a semi-hard brined cheese. Ovelia cut the cheese (so to speak) into fry shapes, and then fried them and served it with a sweet-chili sort of dipping sauce. The fries had a semi-firm texture and a mild salty flavor that paired well with the sweet sauce. I thought the fries were tasty, and they're a good option at the Holiday Market. 4.25 Stars
I'm obsessed with Eggs Florentine BUT I'm also very picky about how it's prepared as I hate when places just toss an unseasoned pile of spinach onto it and call it a day. Ovelia, however, has created a unique Eggs Florentine dish that is both delicious and well seasoned! Instead of using a traditional toasted muffin, Ovelia uses Spanakopita as the bread! This is absolutely GENIUS as it provides both the breading and spinach needed for an eggs Florentine dish, yet provides additional flavor. And as an avid cheese lover, adding the flavor of feta to this classic dish is a delicious twist! This dish comes with breakfast potatoes as the side, which were extremely crunchy - just the way I like them! Overall, the service was good, so that's an added plus. We will definitely be back, especially when I'm craving a good Eggs Florentine dish!

Super cute food stall and friendly staff. We ordered the fried feta bites covered in sesame seeds and dipped them in honey which was our favorite item at the Bryant Park Holiday Market! We also got the halloumi bites with hot honey which were just okay. Would definitely like to go to the actual restaurant to try more items!
I love how fun Ovelia's brunch menu is. Spanakopita eggs Benedict? Baklava pancakes? Greek chilaquiles? Sign me. Baklava pancakes were whole-wheat and I was side eying but they did not taste healthy one bit which is exactly what I wanted lol. They were doused with honey and paired with fresh fruits and honeyed nuts. Of course it didn't taste like baklava but it was a very fun stack and all the baklava influences were evidently there. Also super filling. You can split this four ways. Or share between two people if you're not getting anything else. But of course you are because the menu is so fun! It is quite pricey per plate though I gotta say. Almost 30 bucks for the eggs Benedict and would do with alot more home fries on that plate. But go with a friend, share a bunch of items and enjoy. As for the eggs Benedict, loved it. It's exactly as you would expect, nothing life changing and it delivered. We also got halloumi fries which came with soft, fluffy, and warm pita and hot honey. Solid appetizer. Nice space, quick service, and clean bathroom. Would come back to try other fusion items.
I really don't like writing negative reviews but this was not a good experience. I will NOT be going back here. I do NOT recommend this restaurant if you want servers to be considerate towards you and if you actually wanted to enjoy your experience dining out. The service was not up to par because the waitress we had was not accommodating. This was around 3:30 on a Sunday and the restaurant was at 1/4 capacity. For gluten free folks, be mindful that this is not so gluten friendly as previously advertised in reviews or on past menus. There are two items to eat as an "entree" that are labeled as gluten free with the circle symbol on the menu: the Prasini and Greek salads. I asked the waitress for the Prasini salad and she told me that the chickpeas in it are pre-fried in the same fryer to note for cross-contamination. I asked if I can substitute the chickpeas for regular chickpeas instead, she replied they don't have. (Why is it labeled as gluten free, yet isn't gluten free because of the crispy chickpeas? Just replace the ingredient!) I asked if I can substitute the crispy chickpeas with something else and she rudely replied "Like what?!" I asked politely if I could get something like olives as a substitute. She said that would be an up-charge and if that's okay with me. I said no, it's not okay and I guess I won't be substituting that item, it can be put on the side or left out. What a disappointing way for the restaurant to go about this. I was trying to be accommodated for my allergy and it felt like pulling teeth. In an industry where you are offering a service and food to a customer, it's expected for there to be more care shown towards customers. They could have added something like tomatoes or tried to be more helpful. These responses from the waitress make me never want to come here again. She did not offer any ways to remedy the situation or find a solution. It was $31 for a simple salad drowning in oil with a thin filet of salmon on the side and one less ingredient to eat in that salad that the restaurant would not substitute 1:1. Cool cool. They also did not give me the manouri cheese as promised in the salad and gave me feta instead. I was tired of trying to make this an enjoyable experience for myself and didn't even bother to bring it to their attention. The waitress did NOT tell me that they gave me feta instead of manouri cheese, and yet we still provided a good tip to her at the end of the meal. She came by to check on us to ask if we're okay, at that point I just nodded but the interaction completely ruined the vibe of the outing.
We visited Astoria and Ovelia on a cold/snowy Saturday night. The interior was super cute and trendy. The service was amazing. I can't remember the name of our waitress but she was so attentive, fixed one of our rocky tables without us even asking or mentioning it, and even ran out to give us a wallet a friend left behind. The food was fantastic as well. I had the avgolemono soup which was a filling hearty portion, with lemon potatoes on the side. My husband had the salmon with pesto orzo, which was fabulous. My friend enjoyed the chicken pita/gyro and her husband enjoyed the kebab. We also had the feta cubes to start. Another perk was the all night happy hour and $7 glasses of red or white Greek wine. The white was our favorite. We live in Jersey City but I would happily trek to Astoria for this food again. We really want to try the brunch.
I absolutely love this restaurant. It's a magical experience every time... the food is delicious and everything is always so fresh and you can truly taste it. Everything is so yummy from the pork chops, the prisiani salad, the skirt steak, the lamb chops, the fish., the zucchini fries .. I've never had a dish that wasn't incredible. This is definetly my favorite restaurant in Astoria. My husband and I have become regulars over the years and this is our special place... the experience is always above and beyond.
Beautiful large space with outdoor seating, inside seating and bar seating with open walls during nice weather. Happy hour specials Wed/Thur/Sun 2 people on a Wednesday night, happy hour drink specials before 8 pm. Beautiful Spring night so we started with the walls open where we were seated. Friendly and attentive and helpful staff. Couldn't decide between the sesame coated feta or the halloumi fries so we got both and they were amazing. We went with the smaller order of feta cubes (3 pieces) instead of the large (5 pieces) and it came with pita bread that we happily dipped in the honey from the feta. We also shared the fish special of the day - beer battered cod with beetroot and garlic potatoes (skordalia?). We also has the happy hour special white wine (half price!). I definitely want to come back and try more food and try their brunch, plus possibly their bottomless brunch drink option. My friend lives near here and said she tried their brunch in the past and recommends it. I also want to try their cocktails. My friend said they're very good here but I noticed they are a little pricey and I didn't want to overdue it on a weeknight. So glad I finally made it here and definitely want to come back soon!
Came here w my bestie a few months back. Ashamed to say I can't recall what we ate BUT I do recall being attended to wonderfully & we def enjoyed the food. We sat in the back but never felt ignored, service was super attentive.
Delicious food , lovely decor/architecture and amazing service! I checked in on Yelp and they granted me the free glass of red wine with my entree! The wine was actually divine, a deep red Greek Agiorgitiko. We started with the Mussels Meze which were plated beautifully (see my pic) and they brought extra pita bread for dipping in that amazing, tasty sauce. For entrees we got the Branzino with lemon potatoes, and the Garides Mojo (shrimp in a yogurt tahini sauce). Both plates were absolutely delicious and were thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert we were offered a complimentary dessert to share by our server (Thank You!) and it was perfection! Flourless Chocolate tahini cake in the form of a mini Bundt, drizzled with tahini frosting and topped with a few scattered sour cherries (mouth watering I know - look at the pic!) and creamy vanilla ice cream on the side. The owners are doing an amazing job. Can't wait to return and try their brunch! See you there, cheers!

Ambiance The indoor dining setup has a bar, tables, and high top tables. It has a nice modern/contemporary decor and feel with dim lighting. Food The food is like a Greek/American fusion. The appetizers are creative and delicious - a MUST have is the fried honey feta cubes! I would come here just for those. The Kafteri Wontons are a close second, as well as the spreads, lemon potatoes, octopus, etc. The entrees are good but taste-wise nothing extraordinary. I honestly would rather just eat their appetizers and sides. There are vegetarian/vegan options but unfortunately not for the entrees. We went on Valentine's Day and they had a yummy Loukoumades special with strawberry and cheesecake cream! Service Service was great, staff is very friendly and organized. The food and drinks were served quickly and our waitress checked on us frequently. read more

Food: 4.8/5 Service: 4.8/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 We came in to a pretty busy night and it sure was loud. I felt rude having to yell across the table so my date could hear me, but the people on either side of us seemed to have to do the same thing. We ordered The Roasted Bone Marrow. It was the butter of the Gods. Extremely tasty and delightfully rich. The fig jam surprisingly paired well with it! 100% not worth the $25 price. 9/10 The Fried Kalamari was by far some of the most tender Kalamari I've ever eaten. It literally melts in your mouth, and the batter coating is nice and crispy. 10/10 The grilled shrimp arrived cold. Which makes sense cause it seemed like there was only one waitresses throughout the whole restaurant and I'm sure she had a LOT to do before getting to our shrizimp. It's fine though we ate it and if it were hot or even warm, the seasonings on it were delightful and really bold. We had two glasses of Red wine with this meal and ended it with the salted caramel loukoumades for dessert and a cup of their Greek coffee which was good and strong. It really hit the spot for our sweet tooth. Overall, a 4.8/5 star experience. Food was amazingly delicious, atmosphere was way too noisy, the staff were just at the line of accommodating and the music was barely heard. Let me preface by saying that it's extremely difficult finding five star Greek restaurants in Astoria of all places in the New York City area. There are so many amazing restaurants in this neighborhood and it's tough picking out the appropriate nuances to discern restaurants in the 3 to 4 to 5 star range. However this place hits the ball out of the park. To start, the menu option offers a unique blend of chic, contemporary Greek food that is finally cooked with fresh ingredients. We started with the appetizer of grilled halloumi nuggets, followed by a Greek salad and beef kebab platter. As seen by the photographs, all of the food was delicious! But above all, geez those halloumi nuggets were to KILLER including a sesame coating and drizzle of honey keeping the sweet, savory taste that we can all crave for. This restaurant also treated Covid seriously by offering a ton of tables outdoors as well as indoors with adequate spacing. Waitressing staff were extremely kind and if we didn't have an appetite for CHIP (great cookie spot) around the corner, we would've stayed here for my food including dessert. read more

A lovely corner neighborhood restaurant. Located in the thick of 30th Avenue Ovelia is the can't miss eatery. It is trendy, lively and food was delicious. My wife and I recently stopped by and were not disappointed and will surely go back soon. read more

Have walked by this place many times and haven't seen it very busy. But wanted to give it a try because I'm always on the hunt for a new Greek restaurant. When we walked in, there was only one other table seated. The frose was a redeeming factor--it was pretty solid and not too watered down. The food, however, was a disappointment. I ordered the 1/2 pound lamb platter that came with pita and French fries. The whole platter came lukewarm and the fries were cold and soggy. Lamb itself was flavored well but definitely overcooked. Wish I could say I would return, but Astoria is home to many other quality Greek restaurants of higher quality. read more

My friend and I head out for an interesting dinner once a month. This month it was his turn to pick and he went with Ovelia. We lucked into an outdoor table on a perfect weather evening. The staff was very pleasant throughout our meal. We started with the spicy feta dip, it featured creamy feta and a spice kick. We moved on to the grilled octopus and lamb tigania. The grilled octopus was prepared very well, tender with a lemony sauce. The lamb tigania was a highlight of the meal, tender lamb, salty melted cheese, and a nice portion of fries. Very tasty and filling, it was served in a cast iron pan and stayed nice and hot. For an entree course, we went with the coffee rubbed skirt steak and a half pound of the pork rotisserie. All of the meat was tasty but the potatoes that came with the steak were exceptional. Perfectly crisp but still soft on the inside. We topped off the meal with their loukomades. Really nicely prepared, light and crisp donuts in a honey sauce. A great dinner at a trendy place with excellent staff. Definitely a good night! read more

I came here for brunch and thought it was just ok. Overall thoughts: too pricey for what you get. Food: I ordered the eggs Florentine, which copes on spinach pie as opposed to a biscuit, and red potato home fries. Overall, was not impressed. I thought that the spinach pie was too small, and lacked flavor. The hollandaise sauce also didn't have a taste to it. Price is pretty steep for Astoria prices and also given the small dish. Ambience: they have nice outdoor seating and we came when it was not too crowded which was nice. Service: the service was good! read more

2/2.5/5. I had a somewhat disappointing experience here and hoping it was a 1 off or just the brunch, because the regular menu has so many interesting options I really want to try. We sat in the lovely partially outdoor structure on the street and really liked the ambiance. Sadly the food and service were a bit lacking. KEY TAKEAWAYS: FOOD/DRINK: - I got a Bellini, haloumi blt and shared the feta cubes app with a friend during weekend brunch. --- The FETA CUBES were the only item I would get again (4/5). They were nicely browned on the outside and paired well with honey (SEE PIC). --- The BELLINI was a combo of prosecco and chambord. There was so much chambord, it was a dark red color. This is partially on me because I didn't expect they would be so heavy handed with the chambord. I did ask if they could spill some out and add more prosecco but they just topped it off with prosecco so it wasn't much better. I didn't drink it and the server didn't inquire further on it or suggest an alternative so I just let it be. 1/5. --- The HALOUMI BLT looked great, and had great bones, though was thrown off by all of the bacon fat. The bacon was 90% fat and took it off (SEE PICS). Servers seemed very busy and not really engaged so ate my sandwich with a few tiny bacon bits. - SERVICE - They may have been understaffed because food took a long time and servers seemed spread thin. I really wish they would have remade my drink, given me something else, or taken it off the bill. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. - OVERALL - Had high hopes for this place but wouldn't do brunch again. Will absolutely give dinner a try because the menu looks fabulous. read more
Dropped in at Ovelia last night for dinner and they did not disappoint. For Appetizers - Spanakopita - so delicious!!! The cheese sauce was so yummy and the pie itself was beyond scrumptious. For Dinner - bifteki - so soft melted in my mouth! The French fries were crunchy the jalapeño was nice and spicy and the pita was fresh! Lamb - I really liked a lot! They did such a great job cooking it to perfection. It did not have that lamb smell at all which i was impressed by because lots of places don't really cook the lamb well and it Carries a stench's but this lamb was stenchless and soft. Great experience and great food! Definitely want to go back and try the other dishes.!! read more

Familiar with mediterranean foods I came into this place with no expectations, as I didn't want to be disappointed in case I had any. We got sat right away; everyone we spoke to was very friendly. We went on a Friday night, so you can imagine it was very, very busy..but we still received efficient service from the moment we walked in! We ordered Feta cubes, Greek salad, Hummus to start, and Lamp Chops and a portobello pita for entrees. The feta cubes and hummus were delicious, definitely worth coming back for! The honey added such a unique flavor to the feta and you can never go wrong with sesame seeds. The Greek salad was average, for the price point. Portobello sandwich was really good, with our lovely servers recommendation of white BBQ it was even better! For the lamb chops, texture met my expectations, very tender, juicy, the ONLY negative comment I'd make was that it was waaay too salty, otherwise one of the best l've had in a while. read more

Wow! Just a short walk away from the Astoria Ferry stop, we stumbled upon this lovely dinner spot! We were wowed! The food was so delicious that I didn't even get to snap a picture of the spanakopita! We also had Greek Salad - so fresh and crispy! Whole Bronzino - mouth-watering good! Our server was so friendly and attentive we were so impressed! Would 100% recommend this stop on your next visit to Astoria! read more

Have been to this spot multiple times for both brunch and dinner. If I had to recommend a meal it would definitely be brunch! The dinner menu and items are really good but I think Ovelia has some really unique Greek fusion brunch dishes. My personal favorites are the spanakopita eggs benny and the baklava pancakes. Went here with a group for weekend brunch and the service was a bit stilted. It was empty, which was unexpected. The service was eager but with some mistakes and omissions. I got the baklava pancakes which were not as good as they look. My friends enjoyed the feta bites and the chilaquiles! I'm looking forward to trying their brunch again as people do seem to like it. read more

Excellent excellent spot for a date night! The vibe at Ovelia is perfection! Trendy inside, but not stuffy. Open windows surround this corner spot making the vibe elevated, casual. The atmosphere is a 10/10. The food was also fantastic! We tried the feta cubes, spreads, special stuffed octopus and lamb entree. The appetizers were definitely the stars! The lamb was slightly (just slightly) overcooked, but we still ate every bite! The service was a little lack-luster but nothing I would complain about, given everyone is now short staffed. Our date night at Ovelia was everything we wanted! We will be back soon! read more

Personal favorite Greek spot in the area! These are more modern takes on Greek food with amazing flavor palettes. Great cocktails. Nice app menu. This is a good spot for a date or taking your parents out to brunch/dinner. Feta cubes are a MUST. Special thanks to our waitress Gabriella, very lovely lady with great recommendations. Make a res! This place is FANTASTIC! Probably some of the best Greek food I've had ever. The server was just slightly inattentive, but it was busy so that was understandable. We started off with the choice of three and the Greek salad, which were great and I got the country chicken as an entree. The white meat was just very slightly dry, but it's white meat so I'm not judging it too harshly because the dark meat was great and the flavor was great! My best friend got the lamb which he said was great. Overall, I would 3000% go back. read more

Ate here about a month ago and man, that taramasalata is good! With all the Greek options around here, there's a couple of variations you will get. Taverna Kyklades and Ovelia's are my favorite. Don't forget the cheese croquettes; warm, delicious, but still light with plenty of herbs. We got a red snapper for two and you can't go wrong with that (minus that it was on the pricier side but I'm the one who ordered a MP fish- so caveat emptor). Oh, and it's right by the park. If you're not sitting outside with a cold brew or glass of rose in the summer sun, taking in some of the only natural beauty of the concrete jungle- you're messing up!! read more

What can I say... so amazing. I have been 6-7 times and it is my go to when friends and family come to visit. Feta cubes and wontons are to die for. Having tried the entire menu, you can't really go wrong. I typically just get all of the small plates but the entrees are great too. The best part is the Cucumber Rush cocktail. Simply amazing. read more

Ovelia seems like a new restaurant but they've actually been here for 12 years and undergone a renovation, that's what attracted me here. i walked in at 12:30 on a saturday hoping to get seated and i was! the waitress was so attentive, sweet and just plain good. i had the avocado toast, which interestingly didn't come on toast but came on like a giant pita cracker. i wasn't too crazy about that but the arugula salad on the side of the plate made up for it. my favorite was the bacon, reminded me of peter luger bacon just thinly sliced. very high quality. i topped of my brunch with a santorini bellini. i'm pleased! read more
Such a nice spot for brunch. Will definitely come back to try more things from the dinner menu. Our waitress was super helpful and service was great. For 2 entrees 2 drink and appetizer we paid $100+ tip ! So it can be a bit on the pricier side. Nevertheless we would be back but this time for dinner !! read more

Had a chance to visit again to try some other items on the menu. The poison kissos was wonderful, as was the Buffalo kalamari, again. Unfortunately the rest of the items were disappointing. Of the two separate visits, 4 of the 5 poached eggs were full of water, something we haven't experienced elsewhere before, so unfortunately not a fluke since it was in 3 meals on 2 different days. The English muffin of the Benedict was dry and hard. The spanakopita in the florentine was sadly tough, dry, and burnt on the edge. The lemonade was a bit too sweet for the person who had it. Not the restaurant for us, but the staff are wonderful and professional, really wish we had better experiences. read more
