I have to give it to them, the views are amazing and unmatched. You enter a restored building where you climb in an elevator to be whisked away to the rooftop to overlook Lawrenceville and Downtown Pittsburgh in the distance. However, I must also admit the service was rather slow and the food wasn't that great for the price. The space wasn't really full or busy at the time that we went on a Thursday evening; I imagine the main reason was to meet pandemic guidelines. Whatever the reason, our drinks took a rather long time as we were a table of 5 with two carafes of sangria (which were excellent by the way) and two beers. We waited approximately 15-20 minutes for our drinks to come out. The red and white sangrias were both amazingly delicious. Looking at the menu for food, it's not extensive at all but for sure expensive. I settled on the meatloaf, brussel sprouts and sweet mashed potatoes. I loved the sprouts and potatoes, the meatloaf not so much. It just had a weird flavor for me. And it was a $20 meal for meatloaf... Over Eden is a hidden gem on the border of Lawrenceville. You could almost miss it crossing the bridge, as the hotel that it's located on top of comes up on you fast. Once you enter the hotel lobby, there are signs directing you to the elevator to go to the top floor. The view from the top is amazing, and it feels like you can see the whole city from there! Due to COVID, the tables were very spread out (both inside and outside) and all of the windows were open. They have an extensive drinks menu and a unique food menu. While most of the options were a little out of the norm, everything we ordered was delicious! So we've been there multiple times and I can't understand why they can't get the basics right? No lying it's a beautiful spot and a great view with so much potential. However, they can't get the service down. People are always so stand offish and the service is slower than slow. I've gone at various times and it's the same no matter. The drinks are still over priced and weak for what you're getting. This last time we thought we'd just stop for a drink and stand/sit outside and enjoy the weather and view. First we were told we couldn't go outside unless we were eating. The deck was practically empty as was the inside. Weird? It's like they don't understand why people come. Once seated, we waited for probably 10 or so minutes to get our order taken, and about the same amount of time to receive our drinks. I was pleasantly surprised with the rooftop bar because I've been away from Pittsburgh my hometown for 8 years. Since then, so many new developments and things to do have spring up. It's a beautiful view and they have delicious drinks. I ended up ordering the crispy Brussel sprouts with the dangerous woman cocktail. The Brussels were delicious and crispy. I thought the homemade ketchup was very good and the dangerous woman was a play on the margarita. They had a sign at the entrance that there are reservation only but we just walked up without a reservation. They let us sit at the bar with no issues. Great Pittsburgh rooftop! Have been here three times and most recently went at sunset which was so nice. They also have string lights hanging which I am sure are lovely at night. Their drinks are good and have a decent selection. I really enjoy their tequila cocktails. I have always loved their food, which is very reasonably priced. These beef lettuce wrap were delicious and only $8. The only issue is their table size/setting. They have a mix of typical sized hightops and very small circle tables that are difficult to fit anything on if you are eating AND drinking. The pita was very delicious. The hummus was pretty good and there was an interesting spiced carrot (I think?). I felt like there were just unusual spices on everything. We went for an early group dinner with friends and my grandparents. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised given the mediocre reviews, our party loved the meal and had a great time enjoying the view. I also found many vegan items while my family enjoyed meat, which is perfect for ensuring everyone is happy and has something. One critique is that many dishes come with sides included. Our server didn't say anything as we ordered the sharable PASTRAMI SHORT RIB that (at the time at least) came with all the dips, then we also ordered all the dips. The same thing with the falafel and dips. We ended up with duplicates of many things that I think was rather misleading and poor service to let happen. It was almost comical, and points to a misleading menu. I think the menu could be tweaked to improve some additional things, and the restaurant seems to be undecided - is it a bar meant for happy hours with a view and small plates, or a full on restaurant? The menu wasn't clear, and the space layout also didn't seem decided. We were at a table for six in the corner, surrounded by happy hour high tops, so the vibe was mismatched. I'll happily return and look forward to Over Eden's evolution as it figures itself out. I enjoyed: CARROT - beautifully roasted carrot, even without the ricotta it held up as a great dish FALAFEL - I ordered several side orders that were fresh and crispy, which also come with hummus (misleading) SWEET POTATO - basically a roasted sweet potato, but it was good HUMMUS - a little heavy on the oil, but tasty BEET BABA - I love babaganoush and theirs was very good, a little too cold though, in contrast to the hot pita PITA - I would prefer they stop pouring oil on it, because it was light and fluffy and delicious without PUNCH DRUNK PITCHER - A great pitcher of a fruity drink. This is where I think the restaurant's overall Instagram appeal makes more sense for happy hour and brunch. Wouldn't order again: ZA'ATAR CHIPS - meh, I like spice and these just weren't spiced OLIVES - not special Since going, I've heard and seen that the menu is changing, so maybe some of these fixes have already been made, it seems to be in good hands, so I look forward to returning to see. read more

Mixed feelings about Over Eden. Good: I think the space is great! Amazing views, nice ambiance and decor, a good mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Plus a wide range of seating options from hightop tables, the bar, long tables for larger parties, and normal dining tables. The not so good: When we arrived (6ish pm on a Saturday) the greeter at the elevator asked if we had reservations. When we informed her that we didn't, she seemed a little frazzled and kept making comments on how only 1 more non reservation guest could go up after us for space concerns. We could not tell if she was joking or not. So naturally I expected the place to be packed. When we got up there, there wasn't anyone to direct us to a table so we opted to sit outside. There was PLENTY of space? We ordered a pitcher of the pitcher of the Prickly Pear drink to split between 3 people. It was so watered down that it just tasted like a light flavored water... I would've rather tried a cocktail ($22 for the pitcher) After about an hour and a half we had some friends try and meet us but they were not allowed up by the elevator greeter because it was "full". There were still a lot of tables around us that were empty. I understand if there are reservations but during our whole duration of being there, those tables never filled up. We had our friends wait for us downstairs since there was no other option. It ended up being an extra 15-20 minutes because it was so hard to flag down any waiter or get the bill. We ended up leaving cash on the table because it was approaching the 20 minute mark and everyone we asked for the bill never brought it to us. Instead of putting our name on the list we grabbed some drinks at the bar and headed outside to find a spot along the railing. Luckily, there are a few spots you can hang out, even if you don't have a table. I didn't feel like we were intruding on anyones space but there are some spots along the railing you would be. The drinks were ok. Definitely not ones I would go out of my way to get like other places in the city. My husband had the Fast Thrill which was interesting and a bit unique with the pistachio. I had the Lost Time which sounded interesting with the cantaloupe and thyme simple but ended up not being anything special The view of the city from up on the roof is unique and we loved that about this place. I will say it was a bit touristy when we were there which I guess is to be expected since it is a hotel. Nonetheless we were glad we stopped by. The food looks amazing so we will definitely be back to check that out in the future. read more

Food menu is pretty limited but all items are made fresh, in-house, and are pretty delicious. Try the house-made warm pita with some of the dips as a starter, you won't be disappointed! Most delicious pita I have had (ask for it warm!). Prices are a little steep for the portion sizes, but again everything I've had has been fresh and quite tasty. Some vegetarian and vegan options. I've enjoyed the falafel pita many times, hold yogurt tahini and it's vegan friendly. Falafel has been a bit over fried a few times. The covered inside isn't the greatest ambiance, their attraction is definitely the outside dining. Located on the 5th floor of the TRYP Hotel. I revisited Over Eden and was less "wow'd" by this visit. Last time we were able to sit outside and enjoy the views. This time we were stuck inside because of the cooler weather. The noise level was incredibly loud and the place was not full. I asked about changing the tequila option in one of the specialty cocktails, which was met with the response of "sorry, we can't they are batched". The server was very nice and attentive, as well as the food runner. We planned on having a full meal, but left after the appetizer and first round of drinks. If you are going to patron Over Eden, go when it's nice out to be outside and share a bottle of wine. Otherwise, hard pass from my point of view. read more

This summer it's especially important to choose where we dine carefully and I can say that the staff at Over Eden take extra care in regards to safety. With the open air rooftop dining, spaced out tables, and friendly servers I was able to enjoy a socially distanced dinner with the best view in the city. For food I started with the burrata which was creamy, bright and refreshing. Our table shared a basket of fries which were crispy, salty and a must have even if you're just getting drinks. For my entree I had the fried chicken which was crispy, well seasoned and perfect for dipping in the house made honey mustard (which I took home after the chicken was gone, it was that good!) Not pictured because I ate it too fast to snap a pic was the Salted Butter Semi-Freddo which is enough to feed 2 people but you're going to want it all to yourself. We were there on a Saturday eve. The atmosphere is great on the rooftop. First of all there is not enough staff. Only had one bartender and one waitress. If you sit outside you have to go to the bar to order drinks & food. Inside area was full service. Since there was only one bartender it was very hard to get a drink. Came here on my last night in Pittsburgh for a while, with a fairly large group of people. Overall had a good experience and would likely return. Parking - limited. You can have your car valeted (they give you a ticket which you take up to your server and pay upstairs), find street parking nearby, or park in the CVS lot across the street. Seating - there is limited seating at the bar, but plenty of hi top table seating as well as several hi top seats that span the course of the outer windows. They also have outdoor seating if it's nice outside! Just be warned they were accommodating as we continued to have more people show up and pull stools to our table, but they really aren't set up for that to happen - would rather have you know how big your party is going to be upon arrival. Drinks - we split a few of the pitchers between us, and they were good but slightly pricey. Once we switched to regular drinks I actually liked their signature cocktails better. Food - I didn't eat anything myself but they do have a limited Mediterranean-type menu. Several friends ordered food and said it was great, especially the hummus. Atmosphere - cool, kind of like a high end New York loft vibe. Personally I got more of a Sunday brunch vibe from the place rather than a Friday night hangout spot, but to each his own. read more

There is also an outside section, but it was slightly too cold for us and I didn't see any heaters. My friend is vegetarian so we just got fries and hummus and they were both amazing.
