I love this place! They use well chosen, local ingredients (Lucky Cat Bread! The best bread in town) the waitstaff is always welcoming and their cocktails are amazingly good. If you like comfort food with a twist, this is the place for you. Today I had a classic patty melt and my daughter had their take on grilled cheese. While their menu can seem a bit funky(my daughter wanted a no frills grilled cheese, their grilled cheese has frills) the waitress was fine with stripping it down without raised eyebrows (this should not be a rare thing but sadly it is). We've attempted Over the Counter three times. Actually completed a meal there once. The first time we waited on the patio for about 20 minutes. The service was slow and a storm was approaching, so I paid for a drink an left (went to Dewey's Pizza - 5 stars there). The second time went fine - service was still pretty slow, but food was good and reasonably priced (thus the 2 stars). Third time, today, the service was about as bad as it gets. In there ~30 minutes. Never ordered. Went to Pat and Gracies (5 stars for them). I really want this place to do well but they need to get their service fixed ASAP. read more

The vibe of this place is somewhere between diner and sports bar, which feels a little odd - but the offerings from the kitchen are consistently delicious. There is comfort food for the midwestern palate, but it's executed with a sophistication that will satisfy discerning foodies. The brunch menu is especially fantastic; on my first visit, my omelette was accompanied by breakfast potatoes, the part of my breakfast that usually goes uneaten... but these potatoes were a perfectly-seasoned delight and I ate every last bite. My companion, who had the chicken and waffles, reported that the fried chicken was surprisingly moist and tender. We finished off with strawberry and donut kebabs which are definitely worth saving room for. We returned for dinner on another day, and were also pleased with our patty melt and black bean burger - again, standard casual-dining options that were excellently prepared. Our trip to Over the Counter was off to a rocky start. We sat down and waited....and waited. Eventually we flagged down a staff member and got some menus. Our waiter was apologetic and got our drink orders in right away. From there it was smooth sailing! OTC has awesome happy hour specials until 7pm! We enjoyed our food too. I had the sloppy dog - which is a 1/4 all beef dog topped with sloppy joe sauce, mustard and onions (yum!!!) and fries. My boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwich and also like it. I was surprised at how inexpensive our bill was when it arrived - I'm telling you, that happy hour is on point! We will definitely be back to try some new dishes. Our first two experiences were great- the food was delicious and the service was good. Our last family outing was fairly awful. Although there were only 4 other tables of people, it took almost 10 minutes to get a forgotten kids menu. It took the same amount of time to get our drink order placed, probably because the bartender was fairly busy doing shots with people at the bar. The burger we received was about the size of a silver dollar and the poor puck of meat had spent 10 minutes too long on the heat . It could have easily been mistaken for a slider, but they aren't on the menu. One would think if you decide to offer sloppy joe's that it would be an incredible concoction- this was far from the case. The joe was incredibly dry, overcooked, and absolutely devoid of flavor. We live in the area and were very excited for OTC to open, but we probably will not be back. A restaurant is only as good as the your last meal and experience. We certainly hope both service and food quality improve, perhaps they had an off day? read more

Every time we come here, the service is exceptional, as is the food. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great bar menu. Tucked away but easily accessible and well worth seeking out. What a wonderful place for Sunday Brunch! And, I'm guessing, any day lunch or dinner. Today was my first visit and I will keep returning, if for nothing more than the BELT sandwich. Delicious aioli. Perfect sized side salad with light vinaigrette dressing. The server was attentive, service was great. I love the Christmas decorations both inside and out. My niece had the standard bacon, eggs, and breakfast potatoes and she enjoyed hers as well. I can't wait to go back and try something new ! Well contrary to other reviews the service has so far been terrific. Our waitress couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. We had the garlic parmesan wings for an appetizer and they were great. I had the sloppy dog which was great and my husband had the black bean burger which was spicy but he loved it. Great brunch spot in Clintonville/Worthington area. It seemed busy and crowded on the particular Sunday I ate here. I wish they would have had a host to seat customers. They were a little short staffed and it seemed a little difficult to get the attention of a server to place an order after finding a seat. Really cool atmosphere. I went on my lunch break and had the turkey club and Caesar salad and it was really good. The guy sitting next to me ordered a chili dog and onion rings and it looked delicious too. I sat at the bar and was able to enjoy a mid day soccer game on one of the many big tv's lining the upper wall behind the bar. Although I didn't have a beer I did notice they had a good selection of craft beers on tap. The bartender was very friendly and provided excellent service. Bathrooms were extremely clean too. I have lived in the area for awhile, and have been meaning to try this newer restaurant . First off we were greeted by the owner, and he was very friendly and easy to talk to. Ben the server was also excellent, gave good recommendations and super friendly . Up next the important part the menu . 50% off most beers during happy hour, winner! My wife ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, and onion rings . Both fantastic . I ordered a patty melt , and fries which were excellent . I wanted to love this place more than I did. Maybe it's because I came for breakfast with my kids, and that's not their sweet spot. Maybe it's because they have cartoons running so I was left to observe the staff more than I would have had I been engrossed in conversation. But this place wasn't awesome. First, there is no kids breakfast menu, and the menu options are all large and really heavy. I never did get a coffee refill until I was finished with my breakfast, and I had to ask for it. As I mentioned my kids were watching the TVs, so I couldn't help but notice that the majority of the staff were chatting at the bar the whole time we were there. In fact, it looked like only one woman was actually working, and she was slammed. I did not envy her. We also waited a long time for the bill. I finally had to sit my card on the table on top of my bright red wallet just to get their attention. The kids ADORED the fresh donuts but mama wasn't as happy. Maybe I just didn't order well but my breakfast sandwich was so oily that I felt a little sick afterward. It had bacon, cheese AND a heavy helping of a salty pesto aoili pesto that was just too much. This place could be great and I hope that once they work the kinks out, it will be. As-is, it's still a decent choice if you like the slightly upscale diner concept (and I do). We went on a busy Friday and the staff were friendly, but slammed. Happy hour is a good deal, half off all beers. There's a good variety on the menu. I had the fish Sammy (note, the fries mentioned are part of the sandwich, you can also have fries on the side if desired. Both could have used another minute or two in the fryer. It also came with tartar sauce, even though I asked for it without. So they remade mine. He had the bacon-wrapped hotdog, which he said was okay. Prices are more than fair. The menu prices on their website are outdated. It says $6.49 for the pesto egg sandwich. We were charged $8.99. It says $8.99 for the chicken & waffles. We were charged $10.99. 20-40% price hike ain't no joke. Inaccurate prices aside, the food was good. The pesto aioli seemed more like a gravy but tasty nonetheless. The waffles were soft (versus crisp exterior) but pretty good and fried chicken was homemade. Overall, good food at decent prices; just update the website. read more

Went there with two other hungry people and was not disappointed. We ordered the Sloppy Joe, Hamburger with Egg, Onion Rings, and another appetizer I can't remember. The service was great, and all the food was very tasty. One minor quibble is that the lower height, I call normal, tables and chairs were in the back with the washing station in full view. Not sure what can be done about that, but I had to make an effort not to watch people coming out of restrooms and waitstaff washing dishes. It won't keep me from going back. I love this place! One of my new favorite brunch places. I truly love the build your own omelette/skillet options. The veggies are even creative and there is so much to choose from. Not to mention it is extremely delicious every time! And they have egg whites as an option. Plus, they have good iced coffee that isn't watered down.
