Over the Falls is one of our regular spots. We go 2-3 times a month. The menu is extensive, the food is good and the service is great. The manager and bartenders recognize us and always say hello and check how we're doing. It can get busy on Friday and Saturday nights, but it's worth the wait. Came in on a Tuesday and they were playing Salsa, Merengue, Latin House and Jazzy Latin and I was delighted, but a little confused. After all, I thought there were only a handful of Spanish speaking people within 100 miles of Wake Forest, NC. The bartender clarified things when he told me that it was Taco Night (actually Taco Tuesday). Greg P corrected me about the number of Latinos in the area (awesome, but let's not tell Trump). I see the connection, but Tacos are of Mexican origin and they should have been playing the stuff that sounds like the 3 amigos with the funny hats with guitars in the dusty square. I'm glad they weren't, but I have learned over the years that Spanish speaking people are hugely diverse. I think the differences between Mexicans, Columbians, Puerto Ricans, etc are actually greater than the differences between Americans, British, Australians, Canadians, etc. A friend of mine from Mexico was able to identify a guy he just met as being from Ecuador just by his accent. Of course, I surprised him later by correctly identifying a New Zealander. But that's my point. We should play the correct Spanish music for the occasion. Let me preface this review by stating I have been to Over the Falls several times now and had an enjoyable experience. The food was good and I was excited to have a new spot to eat in Wake Forest as choices are somewhat limited. I've recommended several friends try out the restaurant so up until last night I would have been shocked by several of the negative Yelp reviews I've read. However, now I realize many of them were correct. Last night I went to dinner at Over the Falls with my mother. We both ordered our meals and they came quickly enough as it was a busier dinner service. I began eating my entree and noticed that there was a piece of shrimp in my meal, despite the fact that I got a chicken stir fry. I called my waitress over and politely told her I had a food allergy to shellfish and requested to have a new one made because I couldn't eat that one due to cross contamination. She was great about it and took it back to the kitchen. Not even 2 minutes later I saw someone tear out of the kitchen, at full speed, who then came directly for our table. This person did not introduce themselves, however I now know it was the manager on duty. He immediately began to berate me in the middle of the dining room and I quote, "It would be in your best interest to better communicate with restaurants," and "this isn't our problem." He could have easily said these things in a different way without the dramatics and I would have been able to engage in a professional conversation with him, however he did not allow that kind of conversation to occur. Now I can admit I should have stated I had a food allergy, however I did not. I do not blame them for my misstep, which is why I was so shocked by this encounter. I also have no issue with someone making their point if they can do it respectfully, however this man raised his voice to the point that everyone in the restaurant stopped, stared, and watched as he publicly insulted me and spoke to me as if I was stupid. I have never been spoken to so rudely and could not believe his demeanor. There was nothing professional about the way I was spoken to or they body language displayed. Shocked and speechless we promptly got up (left enough to cover the other meal and the tip because after all, the waitress was great) and left and will never return. He came to the table looking for confrontation and instead lost several customers for Over the Falls. It's really a bummer because I enjoyed the food here, however there is absolutely no excuse for the way I was spoken to by their staff member. If you are someone with a food allergy, sensitivity, or simply do not enjoy being berated while out to eat with your family I'd highly recommend avoiding Over the Falls in Wake Forest. read more

Over The Falls is obviously doing something right - it seems to be always packed. The atmosphere was cozy, and the food we had was pretty good, as well. There are some interesting options on the menu we'd like to try. The sweet potato fries are excellent! Those facets alone will make us give it another try. On the downside, the beer list is majorly overpriced (domestic bottles starting at $4.50, other bottles up to $7) and doesn't seem to have much unique on it. A kid's cup of lemonade for a 2 year old is $2.50 (!). We eat out a lot, and had possibly the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant - our server would disappear for 20+ minutes at a time, and generally didn't seem interested in helping us. But, it has enough potential that we'll give it another shot. read more

I might need a few more visits as others rave about that place but I've found it less than inspiring on my few trips. Can't seem to find a menu choice that isn't a pedestrian Sysco amalgam yet, and would prefer to see more quality/originality rather than quantity. You certainly won't leave hungry though. But the whole point of a sandwich is surely, indeed from its origins quintessentially, to be edible as a hand-held food. Bar service isn't quite surly, but is at best off-hand, and I noted a persistent very subtle but unpleasant aroma to the place. We found this gem of a place when we moved here two years ago. Little did we know then, we didn't just find a great place to eat, but we found people who would become to feel just like family. We can not say enough about the wonderful food, atmosphere, and PEOPLE that are to be found at Over the Falls. We ask for Danielle every time we go there. Sometimes we don't even have to ask, they see us and just know (they are THAT good). Danielle has become a great friend to us and is hands down the best waitress we have EVER had anywhere. We have tried many items on the menu and have not found one we dislike. Amazing place, amazing people, amazing food!!! I absolutely LOVE this place. The atmosphere is great and the staff go above and beyond. The hostess staff tonight were super friendly and got us seated right away. The hostess that sat us asked how our day was going on the way to the table and left us with a friendly "enjoy your meals guys!" which is something that really stood out to me as most hostesses at other restaurants seem to ignore the guest. Our waitress was Alex - a very sweet girl who knew a lot about the menu. She checked on us throughout our meal and seemed to put her tables wants and needs infront of everything. I ordered the Southwestern Cobb salad while my husband ordered "The Tony" cooked medium. Needless to say, both meals were excellent and we will be coming back!! read more

Burger wasnt cooked medium but over cooked. Bun fell apart and made for a real mess. Homemade chips very greasy. Service was good. Burger overpriced at $12.50. Won't be going back. While walking in the downtown shop area I was asked if I knew the location of this deli. They told me a few people recommended it to them and they were from out of town. I didn't know its location, but listened when another person pointed them towards Brooks Street. After picking up my hubby we went over for lunch. We were very surprised with what we found. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and is well decorated. The menu had many options that looked tasty so it was hard to chose what we wanted to try. We sat in the bar area at the high top tables and watched sports while we ate. I had chicken salad that was paired with fruit, salad, and a honey croissant. It was all yummy with the exception of the croissant which was like a little brick. Hubby had a salad and the Prospect Point italian sandwich which he enjoyed. The sandwich meat was Boar's Head and was good quality except for the fattiness of one of the hams. The service was pretty good, not excellent but ok. Overall we had a great experience and are excited to go back and try the pizza and burgers. read more

First time here and Last time. We like Cheese Fries and we ordered their Loaded Cheese fries, which were pretty good. But don't expect sauce with them, as they come with none and the price of the fries isn't cheap. They charge you fifty cents for EACH sauce....seriously. And it is homemade and not so great to boot, so their markup is very high. Service very slow. VERY SLOW. Then my husband and I always split and they charged us one dollar to split. That is nuts. Ale House is far better and no splitting fees and no charge for dressings. Blue Fin Bistro..you can split for free and no charge for dressings. Both better places in the area then this place. Both offer better service too. Very disappointed. Like I said, we won't go back and I will tell my family about this place so they never go. read more

Had an extremely disappointing lunch here after hearing great things about this place. They put us in their front room by the window. The room was completely filled with patrons and it was so loud that we could not hear each other. Very unpleasant. Part of the problem was two kids screaming on the other side of the room, but even without them, just the din of talking and dishes clashing made the ambience horrible. I cannot believe that a single patron could enjoy the meal with that type of noise. The wait staff seemed overwhelmed and rushed. They had very few vegetarian options and the vegetarian wrap that I ordered was smothered with a white cream of some sort. Poor food, poor ambience and mediocre service. I will not return. read more

I went in for a quick lunch today with a friend and our small children. We both ordered full sized entrees and I told the waitress I had brought some things to keep my kids happy so I wouldn't need to order anything for them. They are one and four. A few minutes later, the manager came over and informed us that they have a no tolerance policy on bringing in outside food. He implied that we were basically stealing from the restaurant by not buying $7 kids meals that my kids would likely not even eat. What we were, in fact doing, was bringing in about $30 of lunchtime business and had even been considerate enough to plan ahead to bring food to keep our kids quiet and happy. I have done this at countless local restaurants and no one has ever said a thing to us. I was shocked to say the least. They really should reconsider this policy for small children as it is unreasonable to expect my one year old to eat off of their menu for $7. After reading through reviews here, it seems like a lot of other people have run into similar problems with the manager at this restaurant. We did not stay for our lunch and went elsewhere. My husband and I frequent this restaurant for dinners out, but I do not think we will be going back here. read more

So you're looking for a great Authentic Deli with quality meats and ingredients? Over the Falls Deli and Pizza is definitely the place! I have a wonderful experience every time I go in here, with great service and really good sandwiches. The wings are some of the better ones I've had. I love the homemade potato chips! I have yet to try the pizza but if it's anything like the rest of the food, I'm sure it's out of this world! I would like to see them do some more specialty type sandwiches and entrees to try and mix it up a bit, maybe something like a sandwich of the week or pizza of the week and really push those (with pictures instead of just putting it on a dry erase board) just a suggestion, cause visuals work better than words sometimes. Anyway, going here for a lunch sandwich or dinner pizza is a must do for you and your family! I'm looking forward to their new location which is right down the street from where they are now. This place is great! We wanted to gather for a birthday celebration, so I called to request a Friday noon reservation for 6. I was told they did not take reservations for Friday noon, but when we arrived they had a table set up and waiting for us! And the place was very busy, every table full! Thank you OTFs! The menu is extensive, quite hard not to find something you won't like! We'd recommend the flash fried pickle chips or the spinach artichoke flat bread for starters. Every sandwich we've ordered has been excellent and the sweet potato fries are a great addition! And the triple chocolate cake is awesome, a nice finish to a birthday lunch. My husband and I are always looking for good gluten free restaurant options and we were so pleased with this one. Their pizza and sandwiches can all be ordered gluten free with GF bread. My husband enjoyed a hamburger for the first time in months with an actual bun (gf sandwich bread). The food was excellent, and the service was great. I also liked that it was a bar without hitting the patrons over the head with bar decor. This is definitely now at the top of our list for the restaurants in WF. read more

Late lunch traveling back to Richmond from the airport; found on YELP and we had a delicious BBQ chicken sandwich and a "Out of Towner" (tender steak sandwich) along with Red Oak IPA; had to take the HOMEMADE dessert to go. Wish I could give a 3.5 rating so rounded up. Stopped in here for brunch today. Considering it was 11 am on a Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get a table immediately. Place was busy with only a few open tables. I haven't been to their "new" location and I was impressed with the decor and overall environment. I went to their old location years ago but was put off by what I considered to be "exorbitant" prices. Prices still seem a bit steep($11 for a grilled cheese sandwich?). Brunch prices seem on point with other breakfast offerings at comparable restaurants. The chairs and tables we high quality(no wobbling) and there was adequate room between the tables while not wasting much space. Waitress was attentive and friendly. Wife got the diner breakfast and I got the elm street trio. Wife's bacon was not crispy as requested, my waffles were room temp at best, had to ask for butter for waffles and biscuit. Food was average but quickly delivered and the eggs were properly cooked. All in all, no buyer's remorse but also no strong desire to return. Will try them again for dinner. Daily specials look appealing. read more
