Ox Car Care is a scam. Do not believe what you see on TV, and make sure you read the contract thoroughly before signing up. What they don't tell you is that the terms can change at any time. When you file a claim, expect to leave your car at the repair shop for days while they decide whether to respond. My repair shop spent two weeks just trying to reach someone to file a claim, often waiting on hold for 30 minutes or more. If you don't leave your car at the shop, they will claim you are violating the contract and say they are not obligated to repair your vehicle. Another thing they don't clearly explain is that, in addition to paying the deductible, you are also responsible for paying the taxes on the repair parts. I bought a warranty for my car with Ox Car Care. I actually liked my policy, but what a learning curve I just went through with my first repair. When Ox Car Care says 3- 5 days, I thought that meant when I left my car at the mechanics. No no no no no no! That three to five days did not go into effect until the first work order was submitted to claims, and not even then. Only when the adjuster received the work order did the three to five days begin. I have a great mechanic, who sent in a great work order. But it wasn't good enough for Ox Car Care. And that's fine, I have to learn, and I'm patient. My car has been gone for 4 weeks last Friday. Today is Wednesday, so let's say 4 and 1/2 weeks. And even that's okay, because they did pay out after I understood the specifics that Ox Car Care was looking for. Ox Car Care has a A+ with the BBB. AND THEY DESERVE IT. But what I will say is that 8 out of 10 times the claims department people were really understanding and made notations. And I just want to SHOUT OUT DORIAN in CLAIMS for being the last person from Ox Car Care that I interacted with. I said all this and some, AND DORIAN HAD THE BEST LISTENING SKILLS! This young man allowed me to vent and kept a really good attitude and I really appreciated that. When I was getting overwhelmed and those two times out of 10 that someone from claims really was snotty with me, I still had to keep my professionalism so I could get the service that I wanted and deserved. The company would not pay for a rental car directly but suggested that he incur the rental expense up front and submit for reimbursement only to risk denial. Thus, a rental car was not a viable solution as he's stranded, and it won't get him or his car home. The company would not pay for genuine GM parts (like for like) but only cheap, Chinese garbage offered through Auto Zone. It would not pay for everything necessary to complete the repair to an industry standard, such antifreeze/coolant because it is classified as "miscellaneous," which is not a covered item but necessary for the repair (When the water pump failed, the cooling system lost every drop of coolant.) Customer service is horrible. You experience excessive hold times and forget negotiating with the claims department or even discussing the issue with the claims representative as he'll just disconnect the call. The company has no regard for the customer and his time, and it does EVERYTHING it can to cut corners and pay as little as possible on the claim leaving the customer with a LARGE out of pocket expense outside the deductible. The company took almost a month to authorize the repair, leaving my friend stranded out of town in Phoenix, 1,400 miles from his home city! Of the $2,700.00 bill, OX CAR CARE paid $519.00, sticking my friend with the difference. So, not only is he out a full years' worth of payments toward an over $4,000 bill for its top-tier, Platinum coverage (2-years' worth of payment for 5-years' worth of coverage), but the money he had to pay out of pocket directly to the mechanic to satisfy the repair bill. If decide to buy a policy, do NOT use a checking account or debit card to pay the monthly warranty payment but use a credit card so you can dispute the charges for product/services not received should you cancel. I had a policy with Ox Care Care and placed a claim. Was told to take car to licensed shop. They never tell you on the commercial it can take 14 days before claims adjuster deny or approve claim. so you will be without your car until adjuster get to your car.During that time you will NOT have access to a rental and I was without my car for 1 month.They ask for 4 months of mechanical invoice via email and most reps that I dealt with said I didn't submit invoices but found them later during the call. They said they would submit them to adjuster but never did. This happened 4 times, three consecutive days.Communication is definitely different after you purchase the policy. Claims Process is SLOW and it takes weeks to have your vehicle evaluated before they likely deny your claim. If you look closely all the 5 star reviews are from people who haven't had to make a claim and have only dealt with the sales people who sign you up. Ox promised to pay $7500 per break down. In April I took car to repair facility do to engine light. Repair facility said , need new engine. Filled claim with Ox Car Care. It took Ox THREE weeks to approve the repair. Then they only authorized $3600 for a $6000 repair. Once repair was completed Ox delayed payment for an additional THREE weeks. My car was left in the shop. The shop charged $30/day storage after waiting two weeks. After 8 weeks, OX has NOT paid the pre-authorized amount. OX refuses to cover the $30/day storage. Now I have to pay $300 storage fee. do to OXs delay in payment. Its been 8 weeks, and Ox still has NOT paid the shop. Ox charged my debit card yesterday for their monthly fee ($135). High pressure telephone sales of a product that pays very little on a covered repair. They offered me a 24 month contract that costs $300 to set up and then $158 a month for 24 months. It only pays 50% of each covered repair up to $500. So after 24 months I would pay them $4,092 in total and they pay only half of each repair up to $500. I wanted to read the contract and they kept pushing I have 30 days to cancel. What????! My wife and I called Ox Car Care about a year ago (and shame on us for not reading the reviews). When we spoke to the person in the call center, we asked very specific questions as to what was covered and what was not covered under the level of coverage that we were willing to pay. We told him that we had a 2013 Toyota Prius and we wanted to know if the Hybrid Battery was covered. He told us: "YES, anything concerning the electrical system is covered and that includes the Hybrid Battery" We asked him if he was sure, and he read what he said was the contract, and we agreed with him that the Hybrid Battery was covered. Because of the year of the car (2012) he said that the most the plan would pay is half the cost of the battery and half of the installation. We were OK with that. To date we have supplied Ox with 2 requests. The first request was to get the battery changed and to have a few other "electrical" issues fixed. Ox denied coverage on EVERYTHING. The 2nd request was only for the Hybrid Battery, and they denied coverage AGAIN. To date we have paid more than $2,500 for coverage that we were told we had and we have been denied. I purchased 2 policies and when 1 of my cars started having trouble i took it in to have it denied 2 weeks later, with no rental because you only get a rental IF you are approved to get your car fixed AND it has to be 8 hrs. worth of work.
