Solid B- Went in person to order food to go. New (to me) person took my order without writing anything down. To her credit, she got everything right. But, I am old fashioned and don't like gum smacking in my face when I'm being served. My order was ready quickly, and was okay. The experience seemed as if the place was being run by a different team. The food was okay. Lots of shredded radish to bolster the appearance of the sashimi and rolls. But all was fine. Seaweed salad and miso soup were like what you would get in a supermarket. It's okay but only in a pinch.

I normally try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but as others have mentioned in their reviews, the ramen here is truly terrible. It honestly tastes like it came straight from a package, not something freshly prepared. The egg was clearly microwaved, and the chashu had a strange, almost artificial texture - more like processed meat than anything freshly cooked. On top of that, they don't even offer hot sauce, which seems like a basic option for a ramen shop. The service experience was unpleasant as well - the lady running the place only barked orders and spoke in exclamations, which made the whole visit feel rushed and unfriendly.

I work close to Oyama and have been to Bon Air Center quite a few times ! Finally came to Oyama and boy oh boy this is now one of my fave sushi spots in Marin! Perfect seating outdoors with lots of fresh air and sunshine . We ordered the Hot Mamacita Roll and the Chirashi lunch special ! All Covid protocols are being followed and everyone wears masks gloves and distancing! They also have you write out your order to prevent having to speak to waitress! Food took a bit long to be ready ! They have lots of orders from Door dash and Uber Eats! Finally got our meals and my sashimi was so fresh and melted in my mouth! Big chunks and totally delicious . Over 12 pieces of an assortment of Ahi Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. Really enjoyed the food and eating outdoors highly recommend Oyama Note the indoor menu is way more extensive than they'd online menu.. come check them out! Ok

Ask the Community - Oyama Sushi

Have you guys noticed that the food portion is getting smaller and smaller in this place?

We haven't noticed that at all. The sashimi was very generous, as was the seaweed salad. And the sushi rolls were generous with fish, not filled with rice. Also, the chicken skewers were better than ever. We're fans.

Will there be inside dining anytime soon? If so, when?

    Yes, inside dining now.

Their lunch and dinner menu are different, if you want Ramen you need to go for lunch. Dinner options mostly sashimi and sushi. A quaint place and could get busy for dinner on weekend so recommended reservation to avoid the wait. The softshell crab salad with wasabi dressing was great. We tried both the tomatoes broth and garlic tonkasu brotth both were equally great so all depends on your mood. The aburi nigiri is a must try. Overall, we would come here if we are in the area and wanted a good nigiri. The restaurant doesn't allow modifications, which was one reason we waited until now to try, since both of us have food allergies. We selected the miso soup (my husband said it was difficult and he liked it, but has had better), the seaweed salad (I loved it-clean and not dripping with dressing), four types of sashimi (all very flavorful and fresh), and two rolls (ocean, and soft shell crab). The soft shell crab was delicious and the ocean was very good. The outside patio will be our next destination. Everyone was very nice and friendly. We're looking forward to trying a meal in the patio soon.

We had dogs with us so we were waiting to be sat outside, the server made eye contact from inside, but only came to greet us after we waited a few minutes and finally called out to her from the doorway. After being seated and given menus, we waited another 10 min with no service, and I decided to walk in and wash my hands. On my way out of the restroom, the server was finishing chatting with the only customer inside of the restaurant. I asked if we could have some water brought to the table, and she nodded. 5 min or so after I asked her for the water, the customer who was inside was walking out, and we chatted for a bit. Come to find out the sushi chefs and kitchen staff were not available due to the traffic on the freeway. I was in the same traffic, and I knew it was really bad. That was not the issue. The server never came out to our table. She never told us what was going on. We were left hanging for almost 20 min with zero contact, other than dropping the menus, and requesting waters that we never recieved. At an empty restaurant. There was no notice posted out front, there was nothing said from the server. If I was stopping in during a lunch break, I would not have been able to dine elsewhere due to the time I wasted sitting at this place waiting for service. All it took was for the server to let us know the situation and I would have tried to come back some other time. There were 20 full minutes - plenty of opportunity - to make best of a bad situation, and none were taken. Absolutely unacceptable.

What I didn't realize at the time was the sheer pedigree behind it. It turns out Madcap is Michelin-rated, and Chef Ron Siegel is a celebrity chef. A Top Chef alum who headlined at legendary spots like The French Laundry and Michael Mina. Ironically, I didn't learn any of this from a food blog or Yelp. I heard it from my dentist in Vallejo. Talk about a random convo! As for the food, Chef Siegel's creations are pure joy--a celebration of culinary genius that feels genuinely divine. It's the kind of meal that evokes deep emotion; it really is magical. I can honestly say it's the best restaurant in Marin, Point Reyes included. We paired our meal with a beautiful bottle of sake by Pharrell Williams (yes, you read that right), and to top off an already incredible evening, we got to meet Chef Siegel and take a group photo with him. What a cool dude! Inside the restaurant, the decor was refined and classy, featuring rich dark wood accents and curated artwork. My only minor complaint was the seating - the wooden chair, while stylish, could have been a bit more comfortable. Overall, it was a truly lovely experience.
