So my husband and I have been going to this place once a week since covid hit. It's always been good up until last week when they screwed up our order and made us wait an hour with no apology. I called to complain and the manager was professional by calling back to apologize. We decided to give them another chance so we went today and when I opened my container to eat the toro I ordered this is what I got! Really?? You lost us for good. I've been coming here for years about once every 2 weeks. Most of the time I have had decent service, but the sushi is made well which is why we put up with the crappy service. Today I ordered a baked scallop roll. There was so much sauce, it was burnt, and all falling apart.l. I went back and showed the lady. How much sauce there was, how the taste was compromised, and it was aw burnt thinking they would make me a new one and take this one back. Instead she said that's how I ordered it. She did not attempt to Help and provide me an alternative solution instead she stuck her chopsticks and picked it up... In the below picture I picked out the scallop and avocado. Yikes! I don't understand why. I just don't. The salad in the lunch special came with dressing on the side but when I picked up a bite I could see that the bottom was sitting in a pool of dressing....? What??? Why???? The Lion King roll was covered in wayyy too much sauce it was actually really gross looking. The flavor might have been good but the sauce was pretty over powering. So the quest for our neighborhood sushi spot has been competed. According to Waze, less than 10 min. From the house that is if you don't mind paying the bridge toll and waiting till off hours to venture across. So that we did. Inspire of extensive reworking of the Bonaire shopping center, parking was a snap. We got there about 7:30 and it was packed! But a couple of tables were open as well as 1-2 slots at the bar. We opted for a table. Service fast friendly efficient! Of course I use Yelp photos to guide my choices for specialty rolls. Very important to always name what you photo, so others can enjoy. We ordered 3 rolls off the "Yelp photo menu" referring to the actual menu for more descriptive. We also ordered Poke salad after our roll orders figuring that the artery required to produce the outrageous presentations would take some time considering the number of patrons chowing down. The poke was ok too much sweet sauce which for my taste was ok considering I don't like the slimy salty taste of the seaweed they added along with cucumber and onion. Would not order that again. The rolls were clean and flavorful. All had a Korean flare (spicy & sweet sauces) combined with very fresh and expertly cut fish I know because we saw our dining Neigbors with nigiri style. They came really fast too! Same time our poke came. The rolls are huge!eight or more pieces 3/4 inch each thick. But the rice to protein ratio was great. More veg and protein per bite with the rice being the perfect delivery mechanism. The rice itself sweet mildly salty and vinegary the way it should be with just enough starch to bind it without loosing the tiny bites of individual grains. So you know the sushi Chiefs are good when even Americanized rolls like what we got don't require but a hint of soy and wasabi. That's because the combination of sauces they come with are brilliantly displayed and provide the correct pallets balance along with rice, veg and protein. We looked up, and most of the crowd was gone by 8:30. That along with two bikers who came in to get orders to go may be a good time to try it. Very nice waitstaff. But the sushi is subpar. Our $19.00 roll was supposed to include fresh crab, avocado tuna and salmon. 1/2 of the pieces had no tuna on them at all; some had a paper thin piece so tiny it disappeared into the rice below when touched. Exact same thing w the avocado! Three little dabs of tobiko on the whole roll. Smelled very fishy...arrived on a plate decorated w a heavy thick tasteless sauce. Tasteless. Gave 2 stars for the friendly service and pleasant indoor and outdoor spaces. read more

We love this sushi restaurant. We've never dined in the actual restaurant - we've always opted for take out, but the sushi is consistently amazing. We order it about 2-3x a month through DoorDash. The fish is always fresh, they have a lot of options and it's not crazy overpriced like some other sushi spots. We usually get salmon nigiri and different rolls like dragon, spicy tuna and philly. Everyone is always friendly when we go to pick up our order too. Keep up the good work! read more

The service was Superb the sushi was terrific. The 2 hand rolls were wonderful as was the Unagi. However, I was really craving some tempura vegetables and these did not satisfy. They were nice and crunchy but the dipping sauce was tasteless and the prawns were " old". I will certainly return to this spot, I'll just not order the Tempura appetizer. Hopefully, the trend of young kids with some money who decide to open a sushi place will end soon. This place has no soul. No depth. In other words, a perfect match for the locals lol. The serving staff is mindless. The prices are too high... too high for what they give you in return (lots of rice and mayo-based drizzle, not a lot of fish), and, too high for where they're located (a strip mall ffs). I've said it in other sushi reviews: if you're gonna charge Sushi Ran prices, you better give Sushi Ran caliber food and service in return. But please. Go here, Marin, and stay the hell away from the good sushi spots. They're starting to get too crowded, especially with loud idiotic kids whose parents have failed to teach them how to behave properly in a restaurant. Dumb breeders gonna breed. Not wanting to be critival but their Spider Roll (Soft Shell Crab Roll) was NOT good at all. The crab had no substance and the breading was not the quality Japanese Panko I am used to at most good sushi restaraunts. Additionally the crab was way over fried and all you could taste was the burnt flavor of the way over fryed breading. Basically uneatable, very disappointed for $13.95. read more

So I live nearby and I frequent Bon Aire but have refused to try this place for no real reason. Well let me tell you I have been missing out! I ordered from here during the shelter in place based upon a friend's recommendation. They have an intriguing menu even if their online interface is limited. The actual ordering/ paying/ pickup was extremely organized, hygienic and efficient. When I got home was the real surprise and great! This sushi place was so disgusting. I had a roll that was not even edible. The pieces were were cut so big and the soft shell crab was fried so hard that it crumbled. The sauce that was drizzled on top tasted like ketchup. This definitely wasn't authentic sushi. read more

I couldn't understand her English and I asked about napkins and condiments and chopsticks..most places during Covid don't want you to touch them but she kept pointing at it which I thought meant I was to wait for her to get it then she became irritated with me and started speaking in Japanese to the other workers and made me feel quite uncomfortable. There was no hello or goodbye, last time I was there it was much more pleasant experience. The other thing is their prices were much higher than their website menu! Came here with the family for dinner. Our kids loved their seaweed salad and udon. Husband enjoyed barbecue eel. I had the delicious seafood salad, small on the surface but packed with pieces of raw fish and an amazing flavor. mochi ice-cream for desert was a nice finish for the wonderful dinner. I wish this place was better. It's so close to being great. The problem is the lack of skill by the sushi chefs--they are not Japanese-trained chefs so fish is sometimes cut a bit weird and the rice is sometimes undercooked. They also call butterfish (also known as escolar) "Super-white tuna" on their menu, which is so bogus/fraudulent. Their hamachi kamas are solid and fried stuff is decent. Wow! Great tasting food! I spent 2 months in Tokyo when I was younger, and this place brought back good memories of delicious Japanese cuisine. It's the closest I've come in the past 30 years to eating authentic Japanese dishes. I had the Nabe Udon, and it was amazing. Fresh, flavorful, satisfying. My wife ordered the Sake Toro, and it was outstanding. It melted in your mouth. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and efficient. The location is cozy but comfortable. Review #100! Let's do this. I made my way over here because I've heard good things about this spot since it's opening not long ago. It's a very casual place located inside a shopping mall, so I would say it best serves as a place to go for a quick fix of sushi. The service was super fast, and while that's generally a good thing, I wouldn't suggest coming here for any special occasion, because you may find that you'll be done with your meal in about 15-20 minutes. I will say one thing: for a place in a mall with such a relaxed vibe, the fish they serve up here is fantastic. While it may not be a top flight, fancy sushi stop, it's a damn good one that really gives you amazing value for the price. These guys have a large menu. There's no doubt that anyone can find something to eat here. If you aren't big on sushi but love chicken, you'll highly enjoy their teriyaki chicken plate with rice. On my recent visit, the highlight had to be the 10 piece Sashimi plate. It's $20 for 10 pieces and you get to mix up and pick any fish you'd like (white tuna, hamachi, salmon, eel, etc) and it was delicious. Plus, it's a bang for your buck deal. I also have to give huge props to the chefs here for thier presentation of the food. It's stunning. Actually, that doesn't even do it justice, you'd truly have to see it in person to understand. I must be spoiled because I didn't find this to be a 5 star experience. I love sushi and go out quite frequently for it; so I was excited to try out the new place and see what the hype is about. It left me feeling meh overall. I took my grandma for Mother's Day with my aunt and we rolled in for lunch with no reservation. Not a problem, got a table in front and explored the menu. My grams got a bento box which she seemed to enjoy, but there wasn't any raving about how delicious it was. My aunt and I noshed on some rolls. I ordered the poki roll with spicy tuna and wakame salad. I also ordered a salmon skin roll which was later replaced with a spicy scallop roll. The salmon skin roll is served tempura style but not listed on the menu as such, FYI. Unusual in my book, but apparently normal for them. Takes away from the integrity of the salmon skin for me and felt like false advertising- anything is crispy when you throw batter on and fry it. The other two rolls I tried were good. Not stand out amazing as some other places I've experienced, but not overall disappointing. The flavors were good but I couldn't tell you know any distinguishing flavors that stood out and it's only been a few days since my visit. Miso soup was flavorful and delicious. I think for me it was the star of the day. A little salty but in a good way. I can't say I'll rush back as service was slow, no one offered to refill drinks we had to flag down for this request. Server was willing to fix the salmon skin roll issue when it came tempura style but was a little argumentative at first before being willing to correct the roll or order something new. read more

Good sushi but way over priced I have spent a lot of money there over the past couple years, but will not be giving them any more of my money. This place has the WORLD's worst service. The waitresses are the rudest, grumpiest and most incompetent people in MarIn. It has gotten to the point where the nasty attitude and vibe in this place overwhelms my lunch. Nothing like the serene atmosphere of most Japanese restaurants. The service is more lIke the local 7/11. Left my credit card there today and I called to inform them my girlfriend, who was with me at lunch, will come to pick up my credit card. I give them her name. First, they conveniently act as if they did not understand English. Then they refused to let her pick it up, saying it would have to be me, and only me with my ID. Although they know me! What?
