I could tell from the moment that we were led into the dining room and saw the big grill in the back that this was going to be a fun evening! Before we even ordered, we were offered a cup of vegetable broth as a starter. The broth was excellent, and appreciated despite it being a hot and humid day. I suspect that the composition varies based on the kitchen scraps, but we all agreed that it was great. After the broth, the waiter stopped by to walk us through his recommendations and some background about the restaurant. Even though we were doing Dine LA, he was able to give us some suggestions on pairings, and I apprecaited how he walked us through each item as it was brought to the table. For the first course, we tried both the torta frita with cashew butter, and the chipas with tomato butter. I was impressed with how everythign was thorugh out - the dishes, the butter knives carved out of single pieces of wood. The flowers that popped on the otherwise plain cashew butter, the (if memory serves) toasted buckwheat seeds on the tomato butter. You eat with your eyes first, and mine were feasting while they were laying everything out! The cashew butter was slightly sweet with the honey, and it paired well with the crispy torta. Spreading the butter was a bit awkward, but we made it work. The toamto butter was likewise great. With both breads and butters, what I loved most was actually the combinations of textures. There was thought given to how the ingredients paired together. The crispy torta, for exmaple, was paired with the smooth cashew butter, while the soft chipa was paired with the "crunchy" tomato butter. The second course was likewise impressive. We mixed and matched a number of different appetizers. I can't speak for the empanada (it was devoured before I could try it!), but the hamachi crudo was fresh, tasty, and delicate, and it was fun to watch them pour the sauce on tableside. What was most impressive, however, was the burnt avocado salad, which has the most unique preparation thad I had ever seen. What looks like an unpeeled avocado is actually a peeled avocado that has been charred so that the blackened surface resembles an avocado skin! The char on the fatty avocado paired well with the bitter salad greens and the vinagraite. The crispy onions and candied lemon bits sprinkeld through out were barely visible yet added delightful little flavor bombs and some texture. For the third course, each of the entrees was excellent. Two of us ordered steaks, and I noticed that they didn't ask us for our desired doneness. While some might be squeamish, I appreciated they made the call to serve the meat how they thought was best. Their choice delivered. The steaks were great, tender and well seasoned, and with no strong herbs or spices to hide behind. That said, I tried a bite of the short rib, and I think that was even better! Someone else ordered the pork and paired it with the peppers per the waiters suggestion, and that combiantion was delightful. At the end of the meal, we decided to get deserts, which weren't included with the Dine LA. We ordered a "Ode to DDL" which was basically like a dulce de leche version of molten chocolate cake. Our second desert was a chocolate & Sabayon. I didn't read the menu description carefully enough and didn't realize that the foam... icing? topping? would have a liquor added to it. On its own it was a bit much, but together with the chocolate and the caramel it worked well together. Speaking of which, I attached a photo, but the desert came with a massive piece of caramel crisp that was a lot of fun to break with a spoon! Overall, it was an incredibly enjoyable experience. The food was great, the staff was fun, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the whole restaurant was thoughtfully put together. It was a little pricey, but I think the experience was worth it. We're already planning our next trip back!

This small Spanish restaurant opened in September of 2025 and was having a very busy Sunday night when my son and I decided to come in for dinner. They have no parking, so we found a meter on Ventura Blvd. We walked in at 6:50pm and were greeted by Renee (one of the owners) who asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, so he offered us 2 seats at the bar. At first I was a bit hesitant since I was hoping to have a table service meal. Renee encouraged us to try the bar, saying it's still a great experience. Well, he was right! We got 2 nice seats at the corner of the bar and thankfully it wasn't too stuffy. Liana was working the bar and she's also the lovely girl who took care of us during our dinner. She was so sweet, pleasant, kind, knowledgeable and hardworking. She was able to expertly answer all our questions and made sure we were well looked after. She also kept our water glasses full throughout the whole dinner. We ordered quite a few different items and every single dish was OUTSTANDING! There seriously wasn't even one thing we didn't like. We devoured the crumbs on every plate. To start, we had the Dátiles (warm dates with Manchego cheese), followed by the Mushroom Pintxos (Mushroom and Goat Cheese Toast). We actually ended up ordering another order of the toast since I loved it so much. The dates were also delicious, and this is coming from someone who doesn't even like dates. Next up was the Tortilla Española, a classic Spanish dish. It was piping hot, fresh out of the skillet. Nice and fluffy inside, with some spicy aioli on the side that complimented it well. We also got the Calamares a La Plancha, which was also very flavorful and fresh. I'm a huge fan of seafood but never had calamari prepared like this. It was definitely a different experience than the deep fried version I'm used to, but I loved it all. The Gambas Al Ajillo was the next appetizer and it was simply fantastic. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor. The sauce it came with was so yummy that we saved it to pour over the rice in our entree, the Carne. It's a hanger steak that comes with chimichurri and fries, however we asked for a substitute of rice instead of fries. This steak was cooked to PERFECTION. It was medium rare, just like we asked, and it was top notch quality. The rice and chimichurri also tasted great. It definitely hit the mark for a carnivore like myself. I will say that the wait time between the previous course and the steak was a bit long, and Liana apologized for it before we even said anything. We also shared a Red Sangria and it was DIVINE. It is clear to me that Unidos is a place full of love and passion. It's a very classy place, but in a very modern and relaxed way. It's chic, stylish, and sexy. All the food we ate is proof that everyone in the kitchen loves what they do and cares about what they put on your plate. Everything was super fresh and great quality, and I'm not just talking about the food. The service from everyone was superb! Starting from Renee, to Liana, to Gloria. She was the food runner for the whole restaurant by herself and she was doing an excellent job, quickly and efficiently getting everyone's food to the correct tables. I've come here before and tried a bunch of their sparkling wines which was so fun and delicious and last night I came by and tried one of their NA sparkling rose wines which was pretty nice! The Last Canteen has an apocalyptic theme, which I thought was fun even though I don't care for that genre of film. The drinks were nicely crafted, even the pre-mixed frozen ones. The chicken was good, the fried rice was good, but not for me (I think it had bacon spam in it, and bacon flavour turns me off), and the mac salad was impressive! I just got back from Hawaii, so I am pretty critical of Hawaiian mac anywhere other than the islands, but they nailed the flavour correctly. A couple things that I won't knock off stars for, but will mention: parking in this area is awful. If the meters on Ventura are available, it's manageable, but the only other options are side streets blocks away. The other thing...one of the menu items is roasted brussels sprouts, which I saw in other Yelp photos before coming here. I didn't think they looked appetising, but no one asked me, so normally, I wouldn't say anything about them...except that they absolutely REEK in person. If you are sensitive to smells (or allergic to brussels sprouts), be aware that many people order them, and their odour is highly potent. It smells like a noxious fart. It stings the nostrils and distracts you from your own food and libations. They might still taste good, but again, don't ask me...I am very English about my vegetables (steamed/boiled with no seasoning, please...I hate veg that's roasted to a crisp). Either way, we toughed it out and had a great time. We ordered margaritas to help cool us down and my friend tried their stout. They were great! We tried a few of their appetizers, we ordered the Jalapeno Peppers, Fried Pickles, Jidori Wings, Beef Brisket Tacos and fries. The wings were the star of the show, they were really tasty. Next time I'm in the area, I will make my way back to Brews Brothers for those wings!
