My husband and I went to Oyster and Scales for our annual Ocean City date night, and it could not have been a better choice! From start to finish, everything was absolutely wonderful. The setting is beautiful and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a special evening together. Our server, Jose, was superb--warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely made our night even more enjoyable. This place was really disappointing. The menu is really bizarre and not worth the prices. To me, it lacked variety. The menu lacked anything that sounded interesting or new. I didn't choose the place. A friend chose this place based on reviews. Most of the entrees are extremely small and are more like small bites appetizers than entrees. We ordered the salmon, halibut, wagyu burger and seafood pasta. I forgot to take photos of the other dishes. The salmon and halibut were underwhelming and came with NO sides. They were one-inch cuts, which left us still hungry. I could make better entrees at home. The seafood pasta was "just ok" but nothing spectacular and definitely not worth the price. The wagyu burger was better and a bigger portion but again, not worth the price. We had to fill up on bread. The service could have been better. We were left waiting a long time to get our check and had to ask someone for it. The ambiance is upscale, casual with very dim lighting. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean and nicely decorated. Based on the food portions and lack of variety and flavor, we would not return. read more

Another installment of the chef that runs Spain Wine Bar, this is located within spitting distance to MR Ducks. Formerly the Marina Deck. We had a reservation for 8:30 and made it there via uber around 8:15. They didn't look particularly busy, but I always prefer leaning on a reservation rather just pulling up and getting popped if a place is busy. We were sat near the windows and our waitress took our drink order. We started sharing the cream of crab soup which was served with a toasted baguette. The flavor was good - a little on the watery side, but still a good soup. I liked the toasted baguette as a side car dipper in the soup. For the entree - we picked several small plates to eat from: Carrots - good flavor with the sauce underneath them and the ricotta cheese garnish as well. Brussel sprouts: a standard execution of these- crispy with balsamic glaze on and under them. Pork Bao Buns: I really liked these - shaved pork with a good sauce and creamy sauce on top of them. Very good probably favorite item. Potatoes: fingerling potato is in a buttery sauce. These were fine - nothing special and that's ok. Short Rib & Potato Puree: tender meat on top of potato puree and garnished with oil and gravy. Very very good - so tender and very good. Steak on Stick: Meat was cold - flavor was ok. For dessert we each decided on one item: me the basque cheesecake. This was good - I really liked the fruit compote and garnish. Unfortunately - we also ordered the beignets which they were out of. The waitress decided to also replace those with the flan - which we don't really like. Kind of odd to do that without asking first. Overall - it was good, I would return. read more

I went with my husband for date night. To start, parking was insanely difficult. They have more than enough parking lot, but we came during some sunset cruise for another business and there was no parking at all. We got lucky in the end, but I would go early if you have a reservation. Once seated, the upstairs deck was beautiful. You get great bay views, they have nice umbrellas (it was too windy to have them up when I went), and there was a nice breeze. My waiter, Vlad, knew a lot about the menu. He was quick to refill our drinks and timed out our food well. As for the food, everything was incredible. It is the same concept as their restaurant, Spain, across the street. I would say they are the same quality and delicious, it just depends what exact menu items you prefer. My favorites here were the tuna tartare, grilled carrots, and guajillo steak. Even the items I didn't prefer as much were still delicious. I would definitely go back and continue to enjoy this ocean city gem. read more

Oyster and Scales was truly such an incredible meal in Ocean City, filled with so much flavor, uniqueness and deliciousness. I went with a bigger group, so we practically ordered the entire menu. However, it was worth it. The fish was so fresh, with the branzino being the star of the show. The oysters were very good and the short rib and steak tips melted in your mouth. Everything was so fresh and prepared and presented so nicely. We kindly asked the chef to cut up the branzino and he did it without hesitation! Our waiter was very nice and accommodating, too. It was the total package for a meal and really adds to the wonderful food scene that is growing in Ocean City! read more

I will start with the positives. Our server, Vlad, was amazing and very knowledgeable of the menu! He was amazing! The mint to be mocktail was refreshing. I would order that anywhere. The restaurant is also beautiful inside. All of the restaurants the owner runs, are gorgeous. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. I made a reservation two months in advance and when my wife and I, date night, got to the hostess stand, they could not find my reservation. Apparently they, by accident, clicked my name for a reservation for people that were not me and my wife. Regardless of that we were sat on the rooftop. My wife and I ordered a few small plates. The best dishes were the beef satay and ceviche. Those were certainly four stars. The shrimp croquettes had no shrimp flavor but were very crispy. That dish was a completely miss with it tasting like absolutely nothing; it lacked seasoning. Now for the last dish we got was the rockfish bao buns. This was the craziest thing that has ever happened to me in a restaurant! When I but into the rockfish bao, the fish inside was pink and tasted like salmon. I asked Vlad, the server, to ask the chef to look at the fish, which was fried with a breadcrumb, and find out if they used salmon instead of rockfish. Vlad came back minutes later and apologized that the chef had no idea how that happened they fried the wrong fish, put it in the bao buns, and sent it to a table. Let me tell you, there is zero fried salmon on the menu so i do not know how such a huge mistake happened. Vlad had them make us another rockfish bao bun and they got it right that time. I was shocked that the manger did not come out and apologize to us for such a huge mistake by passing off salmon as rockfish. They let a young, brand new server, apologize for the chef. Let me say, I am not one to complain but that was ridiculous. read more

Celebrated my birthday here, and I'm so glad we did. We caught the end of restaurant week specials: $55 for three courses is a steal! My husband and daughter had oysters to start, and I had a half avocado stuffed with shrimp salad... delicious. We tried all three entrées on the specials menu: smoked airline chicken, beef short ribs and rockfish. They were all good. The basque cheesecake served with fresh berries was incredible, as was the chocolate mousse. Cocktails were delicious, and they even brought over complementary champagne for my birthday. We were in Ocean City for two days searching for a restaurant with great food and beautiful views, and this place exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, every aspect of the experience was outstanding. The menu offers a fantastic selection of tapas-style dishes along with delicious main entrées. We shared the flank steak, asparagus, and oysters to start, and for our entrée we had the whole branzino with fingerling potatoes--everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Our waitress, Claudia, was exceptional. She was warm, attentive, incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and beverage menu, and went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. A Perfect Anniversary Dinner at Oyster & Scales My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Oyster & Scales, and it couldn't have been a better experience. Rebeca was our waitress, and she truly made our evening special. She was friendly, attentive, and helped make our anniversary celebration feel memorable without ever being overbearing. We started with the Shrimp & Avocado Salad, which was fresh, light, and full of flavor. Next, we shared the baked calamari and boneless short ribs as small plates, and both were outstanding. The calamari was perfectly cooked, and the short ribs were incredibly tender. For our entrée, we had the tagliatelle frutti di mare, which was packed with fresh seafood and cooked to perfection. The cocktails were just as impressive as the food, and everything arrived at a relaxed pace that let us enjoy the evening. We finally made our first visit to O&S. I live around the corner, and for you old timers out there, you may recall the good old days at Marina Deck. I mean the real good old day of the 70's and 80's where this was the best place to eat in all of Ocean City. A summer family vacation was always complete with a special meal at Marina Deck. The warm basket of assorted fresh breads that would be brought to the table. The tasty tropical salad that we would always try to duplicate at home but could never come close. Sadly, into the 90's and even after the renovation in the 2000's, Marina Deck pretty much became a dump. Gone was the special atmosphere and friendly service. Gone was the lobster tank where you could pick your meal and instead a cheap freezer greeted you with random over priced ice cream bars. The Marina Deck was once awesome and went down the tubes big time. So, to learn an upscale restaurant named Oysters and Scales was coming was very exciting. I must say, I have heard heard good things about Spain. But I am reluctant about small plates but wanted to give it a shot. Peter, the owner, did himself no favors by bullying his way into the neighborhood and walking over the Locals. For more than 40 years, the public could walk on the dock in front of the restaurant. A short span of about 30 yards. He closed it off to the public upon taking control and for no reason at all. He changed the lives of us locals and did not give us a care in the world when doing so. Not a good way to build public support when you immediately steam roll the neighbors. As for our first experience here, it was a mixed bag. The highlights were the atmosphere and the service. We were able to sit upstairs on the outside deck which is always nice. We were very fortunate to have Bahruz as our Server. He was polite, knowledgeable, friendly and conscientious. He apologized for his English skills which he was learning to perfect. He started as a food runner and was new at Serving here and there is no doubt that O&S's is lucky to have him. The concepts of small plates usually makes me think of very small portions with extremely high prices. And you leave looking to stop and grab a bite to fill the belly on the way home. This was pretty much verified. However, we ordered enough to fill the bellies and knew we would be emptying our wallets in the process. Let's start with the seats. So cheap and uncomfortable. Lightweight things that were moving with the wind and did not match the height of the table. The dining experience was not comfortable, even though it was surrounded in beauty. These cheap chairs are certainly not something a high-class restaurant would use. Next were the drinks. Frozen drinks (pina colada and daiquiri) were dispensed from the typical slurpee like machine that you would see at any dive bar. The tastes of both were odd. Worse yet, they came in disposable plastic cups. Again, a high-class joint with plastic cups that you would see at the local dive bar. How is this possible? And the thought came to mind, maybe because it was outside and they feared glass on the deck, but the water was placed in regular glasses. So, overpriced, funky tasty drinks served up in a plastic cup. I am not sure how anyone could consider this high-class. Most of the food was pretty good. The Burrata was well received as was the fried calamari. The Brussel sprouts were your typical Greene Turtle bar food style, good but nothing special. The rockfish Bao Buns was unique and well received although the portion of fish was quite small. Now for the not so good. For a place with oysters in the name, we felt we had to try them. The smallest, over priced things I have ever had. They were quite a disappointment. Folks, please do yourself a favor and do not order the salmon. While it was absolutely delicious, it was about the size of a hot dog. I mean a $19 sliver of fish that when presented, it just reminded you that you were getting ripped off. Then there is the bread.... Oh my, the bread. Remember the much hyped and delicious Marina Deck bread? You will not find this here. It is cold, stuck together clumps of yeast. Imagine the old fashioned pecan rolls that are cold and you pull apart. It was these, but white bread and no flavor at all except for the pieces that were hard and stale. So, to recap. The good: Atmosphere, Service, Calamari, Burrata. The bad: Uncomfortable seating, plastic drinking glasses, meh oysters, salmon portion that can only be described as criminal. I know Ocean City very well. Peter is trying to make Ocean City something it is not. Crazy high NYC prices with miniscule portions. His buddy Sarantis from Kyma is doing the same. I believe that neither will last in the long run. I hope I am wrong. read more

The restaurant is beautiful. The tables, chairs all perfectly matched and aligned. The bar is spacious and lit with crystal chandeliers with lamps on the bar. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The menu has small bites and I ordered three different ones. The flank steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious. I also ordered the shrimp croquettes, they were my favorite. I also got an order of calamari, I loved the breading but it was a little chewy. Overall excellent restaurant, I will be back. read more

As we sat there a very personable young gentleman started talking with us. Mid-way through the conversation we learn that he is the owner, Peter. We learned about the restaurant and so much more. I had the roasted brussel sprouts, they were fantastic. My husband got the oysters. We will DEFINITELY be going back. If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and go. The snapper came out 10 minutes after the branzino and I thought they could have timed that better considering it was only two of us. That was a small thing. We came here to celebrate a birthday. It was a poor choice. The place was pricey without being festive and fun. The food was good but it was VERY expensive.... even by New York City standards. The rockfish baos were a lovely take on a classic street food. The prices are not street prices. And the rockfish, while perfect fried, was a very skimpy portion. The menu states all items are wild caught and then lists a variety of oysters that are all farmed. I applaud farmed oysters. They generally have a cleaner finish and they are great for the environment, but don't claim things are wild caught when they are farmed. Not cool. The menu encourages share plates. We love that sort of dining. The roasted oysters had only three oysters to an order for $17. Hard to divide three oysters evenly by two diners. And $68 for a dozen farmed oysters is a lot. You can get a dozen oysters at happy hour a number of places in OC and DE beaches, also with a bay view, for a buck a shuck. The menu promises refined food but specializes in fried fish. I asked if I could have the sauteed rather than fried and was told no. So disappointing. Soft shells are among my favorite foods on the planet, but diet restrictions preclude eating fried foods. The chef makes no accommodations for diet needs. Beyond diet restrictions, IMHO frying fresh soft shells, and other line caught wild Maryland , should be a criminal offense. The amount of sauces and preference for only presenting fried fish on the menu indicates that the chef may not actually like fish. If you are using great line caught fish, the chef should highlight rather than hide their flavor. Oyster and Scales replaced a well loved OC favorite. I don't mind paying for refined food. I do so regularly, but our experience was just pricey, not refined. read more

service was outstanding. unfortunately the night we dined there they provided music that was so loud four tables of patrons (including us) had to be moved to another room. the manager was asked by several tables to turn down the volume, with only slight reduction in volume. for the rest of the night the 8 tables in front of the singer sat empty. the food has wonderful taste and the presentation was excellent. unfortunately our dinners were delivered over a 15 minute span and the food was lukewarm at best. as the first dinner arrived we sat for five minutes waiting for the rest of the meal. We asked a manager where the rest of our food would be out. He informed us "that in Tapas dining the food was delivered when it was ready"! Amazing answer. My wife and I dined here for our anniversary about a week ago. Our usual special occasion (and fun night out) spot is Spain Wine Bar which has always been exceptional, but we thought we would give the new place a try. 1st impression was from a very gracious and welcoming hostess who walked us to our table against the outside windows. The inside is very elegant with a beautiful view of the bay. Our server, Justin could not have been more accommodating, checking which dishes had garlic due to my wife's allergy. He was very knowledgeable and helped us make selections. I had the roasted calamari which was outstanding (talk about a flavor explosion). I also had the NY strip which was hands down one of the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot). My wife had tuna tartar, lobster bisque, and rock fish in a cream sauce. I tasted her dishes and again everything was great. We also had enough food left over for another meal. Can't wait to return. read more

They have a long way to go to, hopefully they make it. YOU NEED A SIGN. We circled around for 10 minutes, all the while we were right in front of the place. It's right on the water but that area is dark and isolated mid-winter. No signage whatsoever, anywhere. Inside is beautifully decorated but way too dark even for those with perfect vision. We all had our flashlights out just to read the menu. They don't serve iced tea! Bread/rolls were pathetic - very stale and hard. Sadly - because it was served with delicious homemade butter. Restaurant is not only very dark but also very cold. Bring a sweater! Lobster bisque had a delicious flavor but ONE very small piece of lobster in it, so it was more of a lobster essence. Fruitti di Mare entrees were okay but not outstanding. Beignets for dessert were amazing! Service was friendly and well paced. Bathrooms are beautiful. I hate to say so many negatives about this place, and I think they have great potential, but they have a lot of kinks to work out.
