Unfortunately, Oz a Salon did not live up to its hype on yelp. I made my appointment over the phone for a 2:00 PM appointment. I arrive at the salon at 1:50 PM and the receptionist lets me know that my stylist is running a few minutes behind. Fast forward to 2:20 PM, and then I'm finally called over. Sitting for 30 minutes because of either the stylist's time management or previous clients late arrival, shouldn't that deeply into my time slot. While I was waiting, the receptionists were busy on the phones to offer me a drink or something to pass the time by. I show a picture of what I'm looking to do with my hair. The stylist doesn't ask too many questions so I assume she knows what she's doing. We make small talk, however she begins commenting on other clients. I can only imagine what she's gonna say about me after I leave! Anyhow, my haircut was okay but doesn't justify the $55 plus tip that I was charged. Another note, the prices listed on yelp don't match to what I was charged. Their website could use some help too. Because there are 30+ stylists, it would be nice to read a bio about their style and where they've been trained at. I don't recommend Oz a Salon, and there are other salon's out there that go above and beyond for customer service. This isn't one of them. read more

She is a master at cuts and a genius at color. She does both for me and I always walk out feeling like a million bucks. She has a magical way of knowing what you want before you do. Lalalove CRISTY and highly recommend her! I followed CRISTY from Tangerine and absolutely adore her. From the first time I met Cristy, I knew she'd be my go-to stylist. Cristy definitely has a way of making you feel at ease and transform your hair into HAIRRRRR! I knew she was talented because I've always been able to replicate her magic at home, and you know that's some tough business. But I could really appreciate the fact that I could make myself look just as good. Cristy always gave me some tips and tricks on how to manage my hair, how I should wash it, dry it, curl it, etc... I just recently starting going to Oz because I followed Cristy from her previous salon. She is amazing at what she does and is frickin hilarious so you're bound to have a fun experience. I rarely know what to do with my hair and she always gives great styling advice. I leave her with my hair looking healthy and pretty awesome. She gives the best head massages when she washes your hair (haha too creepy?) and spends a thorough time on your cut to make sure it's how you want it. Cristy's the best hair stylist I've been to! As for the salon, it is so pretty and clean! The receptionist was very nice and offered me a drink immediately when I walked in. The vibe is very modern and friendly/inviting. She was super sweet and welcoming once I entered her salon, felt like I've known her for years. We briefly talked about my hair, lifestyle and end goals. I followed Kimberly, my hair dresser, for the past three and a half years to this salon. I love Kimberly. She's great with color (and I'm sure a lot of other things) which is very important to me, and she's managed to give me fantastic highlights without damaging my hair. I took one star off for the salon itself. The appointment system is non-existent, and they have no list of services or prices on the website. It has to be one of the most poorly designed and updated salon websites I've ever seen. The receptionists aren't even very attentive which just makes it worse. Hopefully they'll implement an appointment system someday. read more

Kim Z. is a very patient and attentive stylist. I've visited quite a few stylists in my lifetime, and she is by far the most relaxed - making you feel very relaxed as well. I got a cut and full highlight over mostly virgin hair, which took around 3.5 hours because of the amount and length of my hair (thanks Kim for foiling ALL of my hair). I do like the highlights now, and hope they don't lighten up TOO much over the next few months. I think if you come in with pictures and a clear description of what you want, she will be able to execute very well. read more

This review is for Deborah Parkinson. I found her on Instagram (superbasic.hair) and fell in love with her work. I saw that she specializes in color/bleach work. I've been wanting to bleach my hair for awhile now, however, have been having a difficult time finding the right colorist. I have really long hair and I've never bleached my hair before so I was very picky with finding the right person for the job. I informed her that I wanted to go blonde. I've been dying my hair an auburn color for the past 3-4 years with box dye and have recent redyed it that color 1-2 months ago. She was honestly and had informed me that going blonde could not be done in just one session and would require multiple sessions. Before we proceeded with the treatment (babylights), she showed me photos of what I could expect in the first session. She's amazing because she tries to get your hair the lightest possible meanwhile preserving the integrity of the hair. To prevent breakage, she added fanola fiber fix to the bleach. I had minimal breakage. My hair ended up lifting to a caramel color, which I was satisfied with being it was my first session. She also made sure my roots were well blended. She is very talented and is knowledgable about different techniques and products but more importantly she listens to what I want and advices how to best achieve the look I'm going for. Too often I find stylists veer toward what they think is best. She's recommended a few products that have dramatically changed my hair for the better. KELLY SMITH! The most amaaaaazing hairstylist I have come across here in the South Bay! I stumbled across her on accident when I was trying to book a balayage session super last minute. She had a cancellation and was able to fit me in on the same day. Trust me when I say my hair was a hot mess, minus the hotness. I was trying to grow out my overly-layered haircut and she was able to work her magic and fixed it. I've also gone from dark brown dyed hair to blond with a few sessions and we're about to get me silver-gray this Friday! Deb is such an amazing hair stylist! She literally helped me achieve my childhood dreams of looking like an anime character with all the color changes. It's been three months since I first met CRISTY--the stylist who changed my hair (and life). When she was at Tangerine she magically morphed my curly mess into a sharp natural style. I was happy to follow her to Oz. Parking is easy if you know the area. There's a free (usually empty) parking lot behind the Bank of America and the salon is a short walk down Lincoln Avenue. When I entered, I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and asked if I would like something to drink. It was early afternoon so there was no wait. Cristy greeted me and took me to the shampoo station. Before Cristy most of my hair cuts were completed with electrical clippers by people who were obviously not passionate about their profession. Cristy loves what she does and her passion is reflected in her positive attitude. Her scissors are magical. She has enhanced my natural wavy-curls with just a few snips and made styling easier with some great product recommendations. read more

Sooooooooo, about a month ago my hair dreaded. Accidentally. In about five different places. I had put in extentions, and removing them dreaded my hair, which used to be very long. I cut it myself to about shoulder length, and it was painfully uneven. I then took this monstrosity in to poor Adriana and asked her if she could fix it. She studied my hair and we talked about a cut. We talked about a color, and how my hair used to be platinum. I worried it would look dull because I had done so much to it before. We did color, she cut and dried it, then cut some more. She blended the unsightly back-where chunks had been inches higher before-into a cute bob that is still a bit longer in front so that I can juuuuust put it up. Long story short, she SAVED my life!! I see Miss Megan Wilson who is a hair goddess! Honestly, there is no one else I trust here in California. I am from out of state where my sister and best friend do hair so I was a little biased. I have been going to Kimberly since she worked at dollhouse and I still love her! My hair is a very difficult texture to cut. It's wavy/rat's nest/I have no idea what I'm doing sort of texture. But Kimberly manages to not only thin it out but style it in such a way that I get compliments every single time I get it cut! I haven't had color done because I can't get too crazy for work. This place is amazing. I followed Lauren from Alchemy to here. I'm never tried any of the other hair stylists here, but Lauren is great. I have fairly long hair. It's hard to find someone who can do my highlights blonde enough to my liking without making them too yellow. My hair looks bright, but still natural. Some of the other places are either too bright where it looks fake, or not bright enough where I think to myself "why did I spend $180 to look the same?" The place gives the customers complimentary drinks with the hair styling, and Lauren has a great personality where she remembers everything we talked about from the last visit when I schedule the next visit months later. I almost wonder if she has taken notes. The price is reasonable since the quality of this place is very exceptional. read more

When Mark switched salons to Oz, I followed. I'd follow him anywhere. I used to live in New York, and Mark is better than every hairstylist I went to in the city, while charging only a fraction of the cost. I would come home to San Jose every quarter, and in the weeks leading up to it, I'd hold off from getting a haircut. I wanted only Mark to do it. He just knows my hair. I don't want anyone else handling it. He listens to what I want and has the skill to execute it. I can tell he has high standards for himself. He wants you to love your haircut, and I always do. It's nice to work with people who give a damn. It shows in the results. Other plusses? - He always has good ideas. I'm often bored of routine, and when I grew out my hair I sought his advice. Best decision ever. He's a creative, so don't hesitate to ask for his opinion. He won't steer you wrong. - He's pretty funny. It's that friendly sass of his. And he carries a conversation without being overly talkative. He can gauge when I want to talk and when I don't. Not all hairstylists have this skill. - He gives a mean scalp massage while shampooing and conditioning my hair. Feels pretty damn pleasant. You're in skilled hands with Mark. I stumbled across Oz and Samantha through their rave reviews on Yelp so I decided to phone in and set up a consultation. Since I was hair color noobie the front desk explained to me that Samantha is a Wella hair color master so she would be my go-to gal for coloring my hair. During my consultation with Samantha she was completely honest and did not sugar coat on the details it would take to attain my desired hair color, ashy/silvery ombré. Being that my natural hair color was dark brown almost black she gave me the full rundown of how it was not going to be an easy, short process. After she thoroughly explained the science behind it all she gave me different methods and options based on how much time I was willing to spend at the salon, which I really appreciated. She never pressured me into doing anything and always gave me her utmost honest and expert opinions. After evaluating my options together, I decided to go for it and I've never been happier! Samantha even went on to recommend amazing tips and hair products that would help preserve and protect my newly grayed hair color. Basically Samantha KNOWS her stuff!
