Came here over the weekend with friends, and overall the concept is just not for us and we wont return. Food: The pizza rolls were small but delicious! The tortilla soup was ok, but closer to chili than tortilla soup. Beer: Nothing exciting about the options. They have small glasses to try new beers, there just wasn't much new to try and the few they had weren't great. Pouring your own beer turned out to be more of a challenge then expected. You know how some times the beer comes out foamy and the bartender pours half a glass out to make sure the beer they hand you is perfect? Well if that happens here, you are going to be paying for all that foam. The 1st beer we tried we ended up with glasses of foam and a bill. I would complain to myself for a bad pour, but in my defense I am poorly trained and in no way a professional. Tipping: Tipping is such a hot button right now and people are tired of it. For a place where you order at a counter and then poor your own beer, how much should you tip if at all? Service consisted of bringing your food to you, and then eventually clearing items from your table (didn't do so great on this one). When its time to leave they make it super convenient to leave your beer card in jars marked 18, 20, and 25% to have that tip added to your tab. Or less convenient: you can wait at the register for the person to give you the old "its going to ask you some questions" line and you can customize a tip or leave none. With the prices of this place you would think they could pay a decent wage and get rid of tipping all together, but they won't because they know people will tip out of convenience or fear of having to type in zero. The guilt worked and I did 10%. Should have left zero honestly. I am part of the problem :/ Overall: I'd rather interact with a bartender/waitstaff who will pour the beer correctly or do it again at no charge if something is wrong at 1st. I'd rather ask that same waitstaff about the beers or a recommendation, or even a small free sample. I would have drink more and spent more had this been a traditional bar/restaurant. But hey maybe the concept is just not for me, or our group. Give it try for yourself and make your own decision :) read more

This place is amazing! They have self serving kiosks so that you are your own bartender! Under poured beer is a thing of the past! You get what you pay for. The selection is vast and not to mention their burgers are excellent. I came with my girlfriend just to check the place out and I was astounded. The owner, Sean is truly a hospitality legend and he took us under his wing to show how everything worked. The staff here are constantly smiling and really make you feel at home. It's even family friendly with play places outside for the kids! If you're thinking about trying something new in north Austin, this is the spot! Seriously this place rocks! read more

This place found a spot in our rotation during COVID and we had no idea it was a cute, amazing, local haunt with self-serve drinks close to home because we were only getting the delivery. The food is sensational and unexpectedly consistent. My favorite is the fish tacos but I only get the 2 order, not 3 because I save room for a half salad or an appetizer to share with the fam. There's something for everyone and even the kid meals are quality food. One of our faves and we were saying the name wrong the whole time - we were thinking "oz" like wizard of, but it's Oz. like ounces of drinks. The staff is very helpful. The biggest negative is you pay for trying a beer vs a brewery or saloon where the bartender will draw you a small glass to try. I'm also not down with the mandatory 15% gratuity. Pint house pizza has lots a beers on tap, doesn't charge for samples and does not add an extra 15% to the bill. read more

Found a new hidden gem. Met the owner and shared feedback about cold buns. He took it in stride and told me he and his wife were already on top of it. They have a lamb burger that is insanely juicy. The Margaritas are strong and boozy , making it one of the strongest in North Austin in taste. They ran out of a beer we wanted so they suggested another local brew. It was so great that we went to the brewery a couple days later. Kudos to the great service! As for the food, it was a pretty big menu and everything was good. I thought my country fried steak was a little on the salty side, but everything, especially the potatoes, was nice and hot! My buddy got a good looking burger. Add the live music and the chill outdoor vibes, I am very much interested in coming back and maybe staying at the hotel.

However, a change recently that requires customers to order at the counter instead of from a server at the table really annoys us. It's no longer a pleasure to go there. Sadly, we don't go nearly as often as we did when they still had table service. If the manager is trying to cut costs by cutting service, I think that is a wrong-headed decision. Customers lose, and in the long run Waterloo Ice house will lose, too. We would welcome a restoration of table service, but we're not holding our breath.

The food was outstanding, and the view overlooking the quarry made the evening even more special. One of our favorite perks was that Happy Hour is available all day on Sundays. We started with a traditional margarita, a mango margarita, and a few mocktails, all of which were excellent. For appetizers, we shared the shrimp cocktail, fresh guacamole, and chicken flatbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and a great way to begin the meal. For our entrées, I ordered the cedar-planked salmon with miso soy glaze, and it was absolutely delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked and practically melted in my mouth. My partner enjoyed the same dish and loved it as well. My youngest daughter ordered the New York strip steak with mashed potatoes, her boyfriend chose the ribeye steak with French fries (they definitely have expensive taste!), and my other daughter had the grilled rainbow trout. Every dish was beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed. The red wine paired perfectly with our meal, and the staff graciously allowed us to bring a birthday cake, which made the celebration even more memorable. Between the exceptional food, beautiful atmosphere, great drinks, and attentive service, it was the perfect birthday celebration. I highly recommend Roaring Fork for a special occasion or a relaxing Sunday meal with family and friends.
