A good sushi spot. I went solo on Sunday and it was $45 for AYCE sushi for one person. Plus $3 for my drink. Ouch my wallet, I guess they raised the price $15. Price is why I gave 3 stars. Last time my whole family of 6 came it was over $300. The Salmon, spicy scallop, surf clam, squid, paradise roll and candy roll is the BOMB and my go-to order. Some with soy sauce and ginger. Cerritos has some great sushi places that I frequently eat at. I wanted to try something new mainly because the wait time of competing restaurants can range from 1.5-2 hours. I came a cross Ozen through yelp and was happy to see they offer an AYCE option and gave it a shot. Service: Waitresses/Waiters were all very attentive and friendly. Food and beverages were all delivered in a timely manner which is a huge plus for AYCE. No complaints here. Ambiance: Very "hole in the wall" feel. Very small restaurant and can feel cramped. Food: Opted to order our usual: Salmon, Tuna, and Yellowtail Nigiri. In comparison to other AYCE sushi restaurants, Ozen excels at portion size. Perfect small portion of rice topped with a large slice of fish. Our first round was pretty good but Ozen fell short in round 2. There was definitely and inconsistency in taste. Some slices has a more pungent taste than other and it made me question how fresh their items are. Their rolls are average at best. Mainly California rolls with different toppings. I was disappointed in this as I'm not a huge fan of imitation crab. Price: about $100 for 2 people with tip. The price we paid did not meet the quality you would expect for a $100 meal. I used to really love this place, which is why I still chose to drive here for the ayce even after I've moved. I didn't review the last 2 times because I thought it was just those times or that particular chef, but after getting the same results 3 consecutive times I feel it's now a pattern and deserving of this feedback. Your rolls have TOO MUCH RICE. Sushi is all about a balance of flavors, which is why it's supposed to be bite-sized because it gives off the impression of flavor-explosion with different textures and flavors when you bite into it. You can't really taste the fish or the imitation Crab or pretty much anything else because all you taste is rice. I didn't even know notice that it has cucumber in it because you can't taste that too. I think these "chefs" need to try their own rolls to understand what they need to work on. The server(s) we had were nice. The young lady was very attentive and welcoming; there was another guy that was nice too. They kept us informed of the last call. They're probably the reason why I gave the 2 stars. As for the owner of this restaurant: I understand that everyone is struggling, and we all have to make budget cuts, but to charge $40 for All-You-Can-Eat Sushi and purposely fill your rolls with so much rice just to fill your patrons faster is just too sneaky for me. Got food here on NYE via Uber Eats. The sushi was really good. Sashimi was very fresh and good cuts. The eel was good too-the sauce was rich but not too salty. We also had the crazy roll which was gigantic! So good. I wouldn't recommend the cooked food, as it was just meh. The tempura was too heavily battered which is no bueno, especially for tempura. The teriyaki bento had a lot of stuff in it which was nice but the chicken teriyaki was all dark meat and very reminiscent of a fast food joint's teriyaki. Nothing special. Ozen has great selections of baked/cooked rolls. The ones that I have tried were: Baked Salmon, Gold Rush, California Tempura, Tiger roll, and Baked Crawfish. You can never go wrong with baked salmon roll and baked crawfish roll. Ozen's Tiger Roll was actually one of my favorites. Different from other Tiger rolls that I have tried, they sprinkle the crunch flakes to this roll. All of their rolls are quite packed with lots of rice and crabmeat, which can be very filling - if you do all you can eat. If you like spicy and want cooked/baked rolls, the Gold Rush is your go-to. The fish on top is Tilapia and they squirt a pinch of Sriracha on top and pack the inside of the roll with spicy crab meat. Also, the chicken teriyaki bento is generous in portion! We were very satisfied with this place that we ended up coming again 4 days later. When it comes to AYCE sushi you never know what the quality will be like especially in the salmon (our favorite) the quality of the salmon and yellow tuna here was great in our experience for AYCE I like the variety of appetizers, Sushi, carpaccio, rolls, hand rolls, etc they have. The Monkey brain appetizer is my personal fave - I loveeee mushrooms. Overall our experience was good from service , quality of food, and atmosphere. There is a 90min time limit, but we always leave full. The staff is very friendly and attentive. However, we do not always get every item correctly each round, it is not a problem because we can ask for it again or just order it the next round. The sides are also very tasty and reasonably sized so we can order a few things to taste. The rice to fish ratio is excellent and everything tastes fresh.
