I don't usually leave reviews like this because this was tough. My wife and I went here on a Thursday night after looking at the amount of reviews and ratings and were looking forward to trying this restaurant. Tables were open and the restaurant has a nice interior that makes the experience feel elevated. They had 4 waiters and two sushi chefs in the dining area. Our waiter comes by gives us water, miso soup and comes back later to take our order as we were not ready. After ordering, I forgot to ask him what the dressing did the salad was since I have an allergy to miso (tofu, soy beans) and it was hard to get his attention. After confirming, I eat the salad as it is mayo and carrot infusion and we wait for our food to get served. The presentation was nice for the bento and the Scallop hand roll looked amazing. My food tasted good however for my wife's food, the Seafood udon was a bit salty to her liking and thus she couldn't finish it. We have to take it home to add water to dilute it. After finishing eating, I am not sure if our waiter was new but he just left, no hand off or anything to say he was taking a break or leaving. We were waiting for the check for a while and no one really came to check on us. I had to make eye contact with the sushi chef where he caught on and instructed one of their other servers to attend to us. She gave us the check and boxed away the rest of the seafood udon. I pay which was pretty quick and we were on our way. I usually tip decent as times are tough with prices of food increasing but that day almost contemplated not even tipping and in the end almost tipped less than 10% which says a lot. We left the restaurant only to find our server outside on the bench and eventually saw him get picked up. Because of this experience, it's going to be hard to go back to this restaurant. Every time I come here, I receive really great service from the staff. Very attentive. They all work together to make sure each table is taken care of. The food is always great. No complaints. The atmosphere at night is warm and cozy but Friday and Saturday they turn up after 9pm. Live DJ. I love that as well! read more

Been there a few times and personally I go for rolls and tempura. Their food is quite good. Not rating 5 star though because it's variable. I found a roll I liked, the Sexy Sexy, then the next time I had it - it wasn't as good. Same with the tempura: usually outstanding, but the last time I had it the veggies. We're sliced so thick that especially the sweet potatoes were too heavy almost to pick up with the chopsticks. Lack of precision and it was just odd. The sliced veggies were just over a 1/2 inch thick! Everyone has an off night. Maybe sous chef was off and someone else pinch hitting. I will be back partly because it's close, staff are nice and it's a favorite for some friends, but also because I do have faith in the ownership just based on the demeanor of the staff (staff are a reflection of owners in big & small companies). read more

Came here around 7:15 on a Saturday evening and all tables were full but we were only the second party on the wait list. We only waited less than 10 minutes. Service is so-so because they were so busy. But getting seated quickly and having our food arrive quickly was a win win! We ordered the veggie gyoza which came perfectly crisped and a dipping sauce we couldn't identify but was delicious, lol. We also ordered the shrek roll from the special's menu and a JD roll. Both roll complimented each other perfectly. The shrek roll was super refreshing and the fish tasted fresh. The JD roll was a more filling roll and was equally enjoyed. Lastly, I ordered a kappa maki which comes with 6 small pieces that I love pairing with wasabi and ginger. Overall, a great experience and great sushi! I had lunch with a friend here last Friday. This is probably my 4th or fifth dining experience here. Service was great, the sushi was out of this world. The Toro and Saba or so good. It was the best Toro I have ever had. My friend had a bento box lunch and enjoyed it immensely. I also had a dragon roll which was fantastic. My absolute go to for sushi is Mikunis... but my partner wanted to take me somewhere new. Mind you... He is ALLERGIC to fish (with bones.) The Lion King roll was doable- have had better at other local spots within the Berkeley area. The Lion King Roll was extremely heavy on the rice and not so much the salmon. This restaurant is not cheap, but popular. And the quality of the ingredients reflects that. The sushi was fresh with melt in your mouth goodness. The Ozoro roll was full of flavor with contrasting texture. The teryaki beef had a good stong teryaki sauce. The salad was amazing! It had frsh mixed grrens and light sweet sesame dressing. The udon tori had a rich broth and tender vegetables ande delicious udon. The only reason I docked it a star is because the chicken in the tori udon had no flavor and was tough and chewy, not quality meat. The desserts were amazing. The fried ice cream and banana were flavorful and rich without being greasy. And the service was some of the best we've had at any restaurant in the area. They checked up on us regularly, reflilling drinks and clearing plates, super friendly and efficient. We can see why this place is so popular! read more

Service has really gone downhill. We used to love coming here. We were ignored all night by almost all the staff. We literally had to flag people down multiple times to help us. When you try making eye contact to order, get a box, pay etc, they avoid you like the plague. However, the food was really good. Server realized that we were ignored all night and apologized to us. First of all, really enjoyed coming here despite the wait time to be seated and from ordering until the food got there. Our waiter was great and very attentive to us when we flagged him but noticed he definitely had his hands full with multiple big parties! I want to say 3-4 parties with more than 6 people. Excellent bento boxes! Got two of them that were both chicken and salmon teriyaki. Tasty! Two baked rolls (the lion one Nd the bay rolls!) surprisingly, my kiddo enjoyed it too! Ambiance was nice although because they didn't have sound panels to control the volume of the sound in there, it was quite loud. However they do have like live music so I totally understand that the current set up is needed to amplify the sound throughout. We'll definitely be back! Love Ozora Sushi Restaurant! I had been a patron for many years but since moving out of the area, my visits have become less frequent. I had the opportunity to dine in with them a few weeks ago and was so happy to return to one of my favorite sushi spots in the 925. Rolls were just as delicious as I remember and service was more attentive and efficient than pre-COVID. Ozora Sushi Restaurant is located in a shopping center off of Treat Boulevard, occupying a corner space close to Oak Grove Road. Since it is in a shared business area, there is plenty of free parking. Service has never been terrible in the previous years coming here. They have always fulfilled requests and are usually professional in doing so. My recent experience a few weeks ago, however, was friendly, attentive, and speedy even though we came at the height of dinner time. Big improvement from my former visits. Food, as always, was great. Rolls are consistently tasty and good quality. My staple favorites are the Chuck Norris and Lion King rolls. The Chuck Norris packs some heat, but in all the best ways. Love the baked salmon on the Lion King. A memorable meal for sure. If you're in the area and looking for a good sushi option, Ozora Sushi Restaurant is the place to go. Food is priced fairly for the quality and taste and their is much diversity of traditional and speciality rolls to satisfy many palettes. This has been our favorite spot for over a year and a half. Today my husband found a piece of plastic in our sushi, and it cut the inside of his mouth. I showed it to the waitress. To my surprise they charged us for the roll. I didn't know I had to plead my case. We are there every week! I get it was the 3rd to the last piece but still. Found this gem of a spot while in the general area. Yelp reviews were great so we headed here. Just down the street from De La Salle. I have this rule of never eating sushi when you're starving, but I seem to always break it. Tonight was one of those nights. On this Friday night June 2021, it was packed! But spaced appropriately. Sign in sheet at front desk. We only waited about 15 minutes, so turnover was good. Inside decor is awesome, and we ended up in some mid back booths. Ordered the chicken katsu bento for the kiddos and did a standard nigiri mix and a 49er roll, with agedashi tofu to start. And a beer of course. The tofu came out and was a little underwhelmed by the size of it. But it worked for an appetizer. The sushi came out and just loved the fish to rice ratio. Fish was really fresh and pieces were great quality. Except for one of them - thing it was the aji. Never liked those anyway. The wife's 49er roll was great tasting, and the salmon topped with lemon is always such a nice combo. We also had a veg roll, and it was more of a Korean style sushi. Since we checked in, we were treated to a free mochi dessert, which was actually pretty good. We actually stayed under $100 with tax and tip, so to me, this was a great value! The place has good decor and clean but no one paid attention to us for a good long time, from seating us to waiter showing up to greet us, they weren't that busy, not full house. When I almost decide to get up and leave, a waiter came, took our order. We ordered hot tea and never came, ever. I ordered their tuna sashimi special, took some time to get here and the waiter brought it to the wrong table! The other guests said it wasn't theirs and he picked it up and gave it to us. Amazing how long this place has been around. I remember when they had the DJ. This place has been pretty consistent over the years. It's been awhile since I was last here but I've never had any complaints. Great atmosphere and convenient location with plenty of parking in the Trader Joe's shopping center. Their edamame is tasty and I love the flavors. I had the mango roll and it was delicious. My girlfriend got their chicken katsu bento box and I tried her tempura and it had the perfect amount of crisp and crunch and did not get soggy when I dipped it in the sauce. This place was in full swing on a Friday night ! Super busy but they got us seated in about 20 minutes. It was pretty loud in the restaurant since it was packed. The food was so good. It took a little while because it was so busy, but the everything tasted fresh and delicious. We had 3 rolls, I forgot the names of them, ikura nigiri, shrimp tempura, blue fin special, Parmesan scallops, miso soup, veggie udon, and I think that's it lol. The Parmesan scallops were something I've tried before and it's still just as good so the consistency is there. They do require a bit of wait time so if you want this appetizer, maybe order a few other ones while you wait. read more

Very good food. Never disappoints. Service can be a little questionable sometimes. It's decent, but occasionally it takes a while for someone to get to you in the beginning of your service. Also, I have to say that last time I was very disappointed with our service although it seems like they were a little short staffed. Another thing that I have to point out is that if I am paying $22 for a Bento box with sashimi I think I need to get $22 worth of sashimi. These thinly sliced cuts are not worth it. Their customer service is also top tie. Stopped by the nearby sportswear store for some holiday shopping and decided to check out this place for dinner (which was takeout only due to COVID restrictions). It was just after 5 pm on a Friday, and I could tell dinner service was starting to get busy with lots of people calling in orders and Door Dash drivers checking in at the counter. After checking out Yelp pics and the menu, my hubby and I opted for the sea bass spinach salad and the family dinner combo. I wasn't expecting so much food when our order came out about 30 minutes later. We live 30-40 minutes away, so I was kinda worried how the food would hold up and the weather was cold and rainy that evening too. But surprisingly the tempura was still crunchy and the salmon and tuna sashimi were very fresh. Those were the highlights of the meal for sure. We found the scallops, red head roll and sea bass spinach salad also tasty. The two items that were disappointing for me were the chicken yakitori, which was drowning in teriyaki sauce yet still lacked flavor and the lobster tail, which was way over cooked and over salted. Thus the four stars for my review. Overall, service was good (but limited to ordering in person) and the food slightly better. If we're in the area again, I would consider this a solid sushi option for my family. read more

OMG!! Favorite sushi spot since moving out here. Sushi is always fresh and so good. Service is great, every visit I've had, the staff were all very friendly and we get seating pretty fast even though they are super busy. It can get loud inside. They have a new thing going on where they have a DJ and happy hour, that was fun. I wish they had a dance floor because the DJ was playing some great music last night. I will always come back. During non happy hour it's a little pricey but I think it's worth it. The fish is always super fresh. One thing I'm sad about is they took the sushi (tuna,salmon, and some other fish nigiri) out of the bento box option. That was one of my fav thing to get bc I like to taste everything. read more

Enjoyed an excellent takeout dinner from Ozora tonight! The order was ready on time and the service was quite friendly on pickup. I appreciated that they packaged the dishes carefully and organized things so that the hot components were kept as separate as possible from the cold ones. The nigiri special was outstanding, with an excellent choice of 10 different sushi--the fish was fresh with good portions and presented tastefully. Our favorite was the toro and hamachi, both buttery and delicious. We also had the 3-item bento, with tender chicken katsu, mixed tempura that was flavorful and not greasy, and excellent California roll that was accompanied by miso soup and mixed green salad with a creamy Japanese ginger dressing. We will definitely be coming back again to try other dishes as well. read more
