Their staff are some of the kindest people I've ever encountered. Ozumo is the non-budget spot in my Rincon/Embarcadero sushi trinity but takes the cake for versatility. I took my vegetarian neighbors here a couple times and the agedashi tofu was to die for. I've brought coworkers who raved about everything from the karaage to the sunomono. My personal favorites are the harumaki (deep fried wagyu egg rolls), ikakoromo (calamari), abara, spicy toro and hamachi hand rolls. I first discovered this place through a legendarily debaucherous work event intended to draw us back to the office. So, I didn't go back for over a year because anything corporate immediately loses cool points. We were here with a large group of 20 people and we had an enjoyable evening, but a couple of the dishes didn't live up to expectations however. The niku maki (wagyu with spinach) wasn't a favourite - I found the spinach to be overpowering. The black cod dish, which was sold to us as 'what they are known for' wasn't great. We ordered two of them and the dishes looked very different to each other, one of the cods was much more charred than the other. The sauce for both looked different too, which was interesting. But we did love the dohyo (spicy tuna tartare), the glazed edamame had an amazing smell to it and tasted just as good. The fried chicken was also a winner. Went here on Tuesday for the first time and it was very good. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday night. Our reservation was at 7 and almost all the tables and seats at the bar were taken. We stayed there for almost 2 hours and after 8 it started to clear out. When I say it was busy I had to raise my voice just to talk to the person right next to me. We got a table in the very back where you could see the Bay Bridge and the piers. We ordered multiple things off the menu. Our favorites were the unagi (eel) sashimi, the wagyu roll and the tuna cones. Least favorites were the Buritori Nigiri (yellowtail belly) and the crispy rice. I ordered the crispy rice because I seen other people on here ordered it but to me it was just hard rice with warm tuna tartare Overall it was a good meal and good atmosphere but most of the items on here you can get at any sushi restaurant for half the price and it's just as good. It was $14 for 2 pieces of sushi when you can get a whole roll for $16. I love sushi but there's a point where it can only be so good. I think the bill came out to be about $190 for 2 people. The nigiri were all good but the scallop roll was the star of the show. Scallop and avocado were both buttery and melt in your mouth. Let me tell you about the Kani korokke which was a star it was this little perfectly fried breaded ball filled with crab meat and a few kernels of corn. I went there on Saturday night for my friend's birthday dinner party. The restaurant is big and busy. I love the cool interior designs incorporate with Japan elements. We ordered few appetizers, sushi rolls and sakes. Appetizers were delicious and I love the sauce that came with it. I also had Ozumo sushi rolls and it's in good size and delicious. However, the service was not consistent and also confusing. Some of the people in our group received either wrong food or no food. Some got food very early and some had no food. There were also other issues with sake selection. Another issue is restaurant being so big and busy, they only have couple restroom available. We had to wait in line for the restroom. Overall I think the restaurant has cool vibe. Food was good but it would be a much better dining experience if they can improve their service and have more restroom available for women. We went during the SF restaurant week and had their restaurant week menu with a side of edamame, a bowl of miso soup, and a set of nigiri. The food, however, was not worth it in my opinion. I stopped by Ozumo during happy hour and was really impressed with their small bites! The Kyushu chicken karaage was delicious, with a crispy exterior and tender meat inside, plus the portion size was just right. I tried the crispy rice with salmon and it was a delight! The balance of flavors was perfect, and the fish melted in my mouth. The crispy and fatty contrast kept things exciting, We tried a few of the happy hour rolls, and while most didn't particularly stand out, the Ebi Tempura Roll was definitely the highlight for me. The Dohyo spicy tuna tartare was not on the happy hour menu but was amazing and in my opinion a must order. Although the portion size was tiny (seemed like it did come from the HH menu) It was fresh and flavorful which made it all worthwhile. I would suggest a different chip for dipping though... the taro chips it came with were a bit of a letdown, as they were thin and kept breaking. We also tried some Japanese whiskey, but it wasn't served in the proper cups, and they didn't have the right kind of ice, which took away from the experience a bit. Despite that, the overall ambiance was a highlight for me--dim lighting created a cozy and relaxed vibe, perfect for unwinding after a long day. There are plenty of options for both sushi lovers and those who prefer other Japanese dishes. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu and enjoy that relaxed vibe again! read more

We ordered a dish with three skewers for $27 and each skewer had two bites on it that were perhaps 3/4 of an inch square each. Even the miso soup for $8 was the smallest portion I've ever seen. Came here to celebrate a birthday with a party of 9 and it was easy to make a reservation the week of. The restaurant itself is dimly lit with a sexy vibe, really nice atmosphere and beautiful space for a celebration. I ordered the kushiyaki mori skewers to start, which included a beef, pork belly, and chicken skewer. I appreciated the smoky flavor from the grill, though I think they were all slightly overcooked. The tare and raw egg yolk was a good sauce to dip into to give the meat a bit more juiciness. The pork belly was my favorite out of the 3. My bf and I shared the rainbow roll and the hotate-san roll. The rolls are very small both on the fillings and toppings, which is crazy for the $25 price tag on them. The rainbow roll was okay, the snow crab on the inside was probably the best part. None of the fish on top were that impressive. The hotate-san roll was better, the scallop on top was fresh and sweet. Having just come back from Japan, the prices were shocking to me and the fish quality was not up to par with the price at all. Service was okay, though I thought it was strange that they didn't include any comped dessert for the birthday girl. First time eating here. I hate the idea of dining in the city! The city is infested with homeless people roaming around like zombies and criminals in face masks looking for the opportunity to prey on their victims!! Who wants to watch their backs constantly while walking to and from their cars since there is no parking in this area? If you can put all the city BS aside and make it to this restaurant then it's worth a trip. Thankfully it was a rainy night so not many lurkers on the street. Had to park several blocks away since no parking in the area. Once we got inside, the ambience is very nice. We were 45 mins early for our reservation. We were going to kick back in the bar since there was seating. They actually sat us early. This restaurant is huge. There's a large back area for corporate parties and a large bar in the back. We ordered our food and everything came out in 10-15 mins!! Never have I have had sushi come out so quickly. Dinner was delicious! To my surprise, I thought the plates/dishes were going to be small like many high end restaurants. It was not. Decent size portions. Drinks were good but pricey. Didn't seem that strong so limited myself to two. And for the bill.....it was high but it actually came out less than what I expected. All in all, I would come back again. The first time I went here months ago, I tried the spicy poke ("tuna poke" if you order via Toast), and loved it. I wanted to wait for a special occasion to reorder it, since it's really expensive. There was NO radish, takuan, cucumber, scallion, pickled ginger, or crushed avocado at all!!! And on top of that, there were ingredients that aren't even listed, like seaweed salad, white onions, and edamame. Our server Sarah was SO AWESOME. We each got the dohyo and a large beer. Also Sarah was so great that she went above and beyond and brought our fur baby some shrimp. Which he devoured. Came in a big group and it was a fun time as long as you are ok with the prices. We had around 10 people and no budget, so instead of ordering, we did it omasake style and had them surprise us with food. They waitstaff was attentive, and they kept us fed and hydrated for the whole night. We tried many times on their menu and I will do my best to highlight them all. We tried the following appetizers: - Edamame: 3/5, ok, nothing special - Agedashi tofu: 3/5 a bit too soggy - tuna tartare: 4/5 could use a bit more spice - hanabi: 5/5 my fav appetizer, perfect flavor balance and freshness - karage: 4/5 juicy, but could use more flavor - shishito: 3/5 basic - kinoko: 4/5 great flavor and moist Mains: - nigirl platter: 4/5, as expected for the price, but I've had better for similar price point - Sashimi platter: 4/5 as expected for the price, but fish was not as fatty in my opinion, but everyone has their preference - Specialty rolls: 3/5: they served us 3 different rolls, non was memorable - tokyo gyu: 2/5 prob my least favorite dish up to this point, they served us 2 beef dishes, and this one was SUPER chewy. Their menu is straightforward, with many options for sushi, sashimi, and rolls. They also offer a variety of main dishes such as grilled fish, teriyaki chicken, and uni pasta (which sounds very delicious!), as well as appetizers. I ordered the aburi sushi roll, which is salmon and tuna with spicy aioli, and it was pretty good. The fish was very fresh, which is what my entire group noted about the quality. I just wish that the roll was thicker, especially since it is comparable in size to regular California rolls. The service was great. They were very attentive and answered all of our questions. The tables were a bit sticky when we sat down, and the waiter re-wiped them, but it seems like it's just the type of wood the table is made of. I had heard so many amazing things about this place but I thought the portions were way too small, the food options not substantial, and overall very mediocre for the price tag. My friends and I ordered a bunch of apps (miso soup, edamame, gyoza, etc), sushi rolls, and some items off the robata menu. Honestly everything was mediocre and very very small portions. We felt that we spent A LOT of money for not much food and the quality of food you could have easily gotten at a different restaurant at a much lower price point.
