I hadn't been to PF Chang's in years, but a new menu item drew me in. The Korean Bulgogi NY strip with crispy potatoes. Pricey for a chain restaurant, but really worth it. I was very pleasantly surprised with not only the flavor and temperature of the beef, but the quality. It came to the table sizzling and the server added some of the sauce there. It caramelized perfectly. The beef was fork tender. My boyfriend got the Tonkatsu ramen with the pork added, and after a couple tastes if his, I want to back and have a whole bowl. Not a good experience for my son and I. I ordered the crab wanton and it was a bunch of mush inside the wanton not mayo not cream cheese just a lump of something with a faint taste of crab...I ordered Singapore st. Noodles and it was a too of a strong taste of turmeric and clove...or some similar spice a mush of overcooked noodles, an cherry/grape tomatoes...it was not good at all. I took a few bites to see if it would get better but it did not. My son had a honey chkn that was just not tasty at all over some brown plain rice. My tab was $63 & change and we left the food. Absolutely love the decor and the service here. They really know how to treat a customer and their service is stellar. As for the food, it's pretty good. Not the best but definitely better than a lot of other Chinese food I've had over the years. I will say, the price is high for Whitby I get but that's probably because of the money spent on the decor. The menu had a variety of Asian cuisines and that may seem like a good thing but it ended up feeling like the restaurant had no identity on what it was supposed to be. This goes along with the ambiance, is it supposed to be a high end restaurant or a more of a hip place? It pains me as a self claimed Chinese food connoisseur to like eating here. To make one thing clear, I much prefer an authentic restaurant in LA, Chicago, or New York. But when in Bakersfield, this is pretty good. One reason is they use quality ingredients. The food may be heavily adapted to the average American palate, but good ingredients always make good food. I stop in for a relaxing lunch with the wife. I ordered from the dim sum section, got some pork dumplings. The presentation is spectacular, the taste is average and forgettable. For main course I got the Peking Duck. The presentation again was lavish. Metal tray, beautiful looking duck, with pancake and sides. The taste is not authentic. The duck is fried rather than oven roasted. The pancake is a little oily, the traditional side is steamed bread. But overall it is a successful "interpretation" of Peking duck and it was quite delicious. My wife had honey glazed chicken and she liked it a lot. I can't, I just can't, force myself to try that dish. But I am sure a lot of people would love it. So I hade been going to various PF Changs in different cities. This is my go to for Asian food. They have a good selection of gluten free options if you suffer from Celiac. The food is always made fresh to order and a wide variety to chose from. The only bad thing I would say is that being a guy who prefers water the cups are small and I always have to flag someone down to get a refill. read more

This part of the review has to do with ordering for delivery. My tofu pad Thai had shrimp all over it and my boyfriend's food was fine but when I called the manager to complain he said he would issue me a $35 gift card in the mail and also refund my money I got neither. So that gets one star. This part of the review is from last night we went to eat there for Christmas Eve and I understand they're very busy. But I ordered soup and rice because I like to eat the soup and rice together. I got the soup but no rice until the soup was cold. They had to go back to the kitchen and get more soup and the rice they forgot. By the time we were leaving we still haven't gotten the brown rice that my fiancé ordered. So when it was time to leave she asked if he wanted his brown rice to go and he said yes. Well today I open the containers and they are both used white rice. One of my most favorite restaurants. Hope this one can be saved. Would hate to drive out of town just to have it. Not sure what is happening in the kitchen but getting undercooked rice, cold entrees, and rotten seafood is not what I had in mind for a birthday celebration. Manager blamed it on the "sauce". I used to love this place and was one of my favorite. I am seriously thinking is it the pandemic which has hurt the food industry or the other industries per say or the attitude of not caring is common for business owners or both . First the glass of the drink for my son has a lipstick mark on it at the bar which make you think where is the cleaning and safety standard and then the food was too salty like it was cooked in saline . The only positive thing are the servers who are exceptionally trying hard to meet the customers need with best possible services . Hats off to them I really have slot of respects for them but not happy at all for spending so much and getting very low quality food . Shrimp & chicken fried rice was very dry and the meat was tough not cut up only a few pieces of each. New Teriyaki chicken. The miso Salmon was good. The person that took the order was pleasant. We celebrated my friend's birthday here as she wished for Chinese food. Had a reservation so the table was set and we got a good area. The servers and host were great; very accommodating. We just ordered our favorites; lettuce wraps, dynamite shrimp, mongolian beef, etc. Not a fan of the orange chicken though. Fast forward a few years later and I tried again for a lunch take-out order. The darn place is just too close to my house and after a work out, I was so hungry! I ordered my food from my phone via Yelp Grubhub. Literally took me 2 minutes, paid and done. I was craving Kung Pao shrimp, extra spicy. Yeow - $19.50. But hey, comes with white or brown rice, at least and I was hoping that the portion would be decent enough. I got to the restaurant as my order shows "still in the works" on the app but voila! It was ready! I figured it would be as it was 1 wee order and 2pm (odd hour with less customers) Grubhub for some reason with the "being ready" part is not always so accurate. Service at the hostess stand was pleasant. I think it was a manager that told me at the stand that I should be paying on the PF Chang app as I would save $1 that way (Huh? Is the Grubhub charge built into that high on line menu price? The receipt just shows the meal and tax) to build up reward meals. I was appreciative and told him how convenient Grubhub was and thought to myself, when will I be back here? Do I even have the PF app? Well, the food... I cannot believe I am saying this but it was some of the best King Pao I have ever had. And they listened this time and it was nice and spicy. The white rice was perfectly cooked too. I had enough of a portion for 2 meals for me but I say this as not so big an eater in a sitting. The dish for me was perfect. I hope, I hope, I hope this can work out as good next time as I need restaurant consistency, chain or not. And I think I will use that PF C app for future rewards... I can't believe I've never reviewed here lol we eat here at least 2-3 times a year with family and sometimes on a lunch break. Love that it has something for everyone even vegetarian options. And enough space for a big group. Atmosphere is relaxing and even more perfect with a cocktail yum. We ordered a bunch of different things and most made it in our mouths before pics lol. Definitely get the Chicken Lettuce Wraps they are to die for delicious and I actually preferred it as my main. Also ordered some Sushi Rolls and Egg Drop soup with Vegetarian Spring rolls, all were so delicious and prepared perfectly. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, we did need help navigating or Vegetarian person around the menu. Only thing I didn't like was after our table paid our bills while still eating we definitely were the table in the corner they forgot about. Took asking 3 separate times for refills of water before we finally got it. So pay your bill after you are completely done and ready to go. Ivan' needs to be retrained and has issues because something is wrong with him, I don't know if he's a bigot or what. I asked for some water and after 20 plus mins of watching him actually walk to the bar and get other people's drinks, water and take to two different tables and even one adjacent to me, I had to finally get up to go get my own water to take my medication with my meal as doctor directed. Then more time went by 10-15 mins and he finally comes to the table. He knew instantly before I could get it out and he heard me call him saying excuse me and he walked away to the back. I told him about himself and poor service, he had 4 tables and others helped bring our food and others, so I don't get why he purposely ignored our table ( was it racial?) and he offered no explanation as to why he hadn't asked us if we needed anything the entire time, refills more drinks, nothing. I am sure they have cameras and hopefully the manager reviews his conduct. Nothing happened prior to us ordering and he actually acted as if our table didn't exist and it was my first time in years visiting. Unfortunate, I had my 8 year old granddaughter with us for her first time. Today is 1/20/24 and I say and observed how all the other staff was attentive and excellent to their tables assigned and Ivan keep walking off staying in the back and only came out to help 3 tables of 4 he had excluded our table. My food was good, my daughter and granddaughter enjoyed their food, however the horrible service took the taste and expense away it made no damn sense. Hate to give negative reviews with very little constructive suggestions but this location needs to start over as it does not represent any PF Chang I have ever been at! Service not terrible but server was very unfamiliar with the menu - maybe it is hard to keep servers with the lack of business. Food - nothing like any other store. The dumplings were overcooked and drenched in sauce. We moved from Bakersfield almost 4 years ago, but we always visit PF Chang's for family celebrations when we come home! We have never had a bad meal! Some of our favorites are the Miso Salmon, orange chicken, Mongolian beef, any of the lo-mein's to name a few! Oh for appetizers you can't go wrong with the Dynamite shrimp! Service is always great, servers are very attentive. They are very accommodating for any party size or any mobility issues. Their specialty cocktail are amazing too! Every once in a while is good to revisit familiar places. Being one of my wife's and mine familiar stomping ground we decided to stop at P.F. Chang's. After a brief 3min wait we were seated and ordered the lettuce wrap and a cup of egg drop soup as our appetizers. The Chicken lettuce wrap was well cooked and full of flavor with fresh crisp, iceberg lettuce on the side to hold everything together. While the egg drop soup was a thick chicken broth laced with pieces of silken eggs. For our main course, I ordered the Mongolian beef. The well marinated flank steak came out a little cold. However, the green onions were still crisp and vibrant in color, maintaining their spicy onion flavor. My wife ordered the Crispy Honey Chicken and Pad Thai. The crispy honey chicken; a crispy battered fried chicken that was still tender and juicy while being slightly coated with a sweet glaze; while the Pad Thai had soft and chewy rice noodles, garnished with blanched carrots, pine nuts, fried onions, and a fried egg. Sadly it was a bit too spicy for her liking. The dark ambience of the restaurant further enhanced the vibrant colors of the dishes. I just wasn't super impressed. Maybe it would've been better if I was to dine in I had my food door dashed. I ordered the steak that was like Korean barbecue style and it didn't really taste that similar. Also the cut of steak I got was really fatty and just not that good. My sister ordered some tofu dish and was disappointed at the small amount of tofu that was included. The food just wasn't worth the money and I was just not impressed. Maybe I'm a harsher critic on the Korean bbq flavor than others because I am Korean. But the quality of the meat was sub par. read more

Even on a night the restaurant was filled with kids dining before winter formal and several large parties we experienced great service, reasonable wait times from being seated to receiving our drinks, apps and entrees.
