I have recently dined at Pacific Catch on B Street in downtown San Mateo several times over the last month. Both experiences were technically indoors. The management and staff have taken all of the expected precautions(proper table spacing, backdoor open, masks. We felt at ease and comfortable. All of the indoor seating is at the back of the restaurant next to the open back door. There is also covered patio seating on the other side of the open backdoor. I have been obsessed with their Seared Ahi Burger. The Ahi is a generous size and dare I say meaty. I have also been crazy about their Guacamole and Chips. The Guac is fresh, just a bit spicy, and the chips taste as they were made fresh in back. Lastly, during my most recent visit, our group shared the Ceviche and Poke Trio Sampler(pick 3). I highly recommend this starter if it sounds as good as it reads. During both of our dine in experiences, our waitress was masked, cheery, and efficient. For now, they're not serving a high volume of customers indoors but I do expect this to change, at least I hope. read more

I always have a hard time deciding what I want to order when coming here because there are so many good choices and they change their menu often. That said, the main reason I am posting tonight is because of Mimi -- she is truly the best. When we show up she greets us with a smile and recognizes us. When we get seated, she always remembers the details - such as that I like a glass of ice with my wine and brings it without even asking or mentioning it. Bf & I have been to this location 2-3 times in the past, but this review is for our most recent order, a delivery from this week. Would order again on the rare occasion I have this particular craving. -- Mexican Grill salad bowl with guajillo shrimp: a huge portion of food for $21. Topped with all my favorite condiments (pico de gallo, guac, etc.) & even a piece of elote. Very good creamy tomatillo dressing. Citrus-guajillo adobo shrimp sounded good on paper but taste was only about three stars. Might try a different protein next time. -- flavorful batter on both the Hot Fish Taco & Baja Shrimp Taco. This is the second time I tried the Greens&Bowl, but at a different place. After returning from the hiking in Half Moon Bay, we're really hungry. The atmosphere was not as tropical as the one in Campbell. But the Japanese Wasabi was still very tasty. We also tried the Asia Chimichurri Salad. It's also very good. When we sat down at the table, the waiter immediately came over to take our order, but we were still undecided as it was our first time and we weren`t sure what to order on the menu. First of all, the portion was HUGE. It came with 6 ribs and plenty of greens, brown rice, and an egg. The ribs were good, sweet and saucy. Grilled brussel spouts were delish as well. Went back to Pacific Catch recently and had the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. They served us a meal that had a side of seaweed salad that tasted funky with an alcohol taste and smell (we had another dish that also had seaweed salad and the other one tasted fine). I have an alcohol allergy and am extremely sensitive and was starting to have a reaction. We notified them and gave them the seaweed salad but they didn't really do anything other than offer to take our food away after the manager was notified. We then had to ask to talk to the manager, who already had the demeanor that he was annoyed on his way over and when we told him our situation he simply said "I know, it was shown to me and it was fine" and proceeded to deny any possibility that it could've gone bad and that there's no way that it could have any hint of alcohol. I told him repeatedly that of course I have no idea HOW it could have happened but all I know is that I have an alcohol allergy and am having a reaction to it, and that there was something clearly wrong with the seaweed salad served. Something could have fermented, there could have been cross contamination, etc... I have no idea, but at least acknowledge the fact that something may be wrong and try to look into it. The manager ignored the fact that I was having an allergic reaction and kept saying it's not possible for the seaweed salad to have gone bad, dismissed our concerns with an attitude, did not try to listen from the start, and actually WALKED AWAY while we were still trying to talk to him. The worst management I have ever experienced, and as someone who has worked in customer facing jobs, I know it can be difficult, but to completely disregard a customer from the jump and treat them with such disrespect without even acknowledging their concerns was shocking. Food was delicious. Service was terrible. My group of four decided to dine here to celebrate a birthday on Saturday, 06/24/2023, at approximately 1910 hours. After being seated we were greeted by 'Lisa'. We placed some appetizers and drink orders. I observed the restaurant as not being too busy and yet there were people waiting for service in my section. After the items were brought to the table we had to flag Lisa down regarding three extra plates needed for the appetizers and our drinks. After bringing the plates, our drinks, and finishing our appetizers we had to flag her down again to take our dinner orders. Her presence was nonexistent. After we received our dinner orders and finished up there was no sign of Lisa or any additional staff checking on us, or the other tables. I observed Lisa sitting directly behind us towards the bar eating with another co-worker. Now, I have worked in the food industry for many years and understand the rights for breaks and lunches. However, my advice is not to have your staff eating in front of customers. It doesn't look professional. I would also advise you to have someone cover the waitresses/waiters when on break or lunch. We were going to order more appetizers, drinks and some desserts, however after the extremely long wait we decided to ask for the check. We had to walk to the front extremely annoyed and wait for an employee to greet us to ask for the check. Shortly after Lisa showed up to our table to hand it to us. My experience in San Mateo is mixed. -Our first experience was celebrating my wife's birthday on a Sunday evening with a party of nine and the waiter had a very difficult time restraining his impatience despite the restaurant being nearly empty and the staff equaling the customers. The waiter took a partial order then departed and was gone for a while but not out of site. I literally had to get up and ask the waiter to finish taking our drink orders let alone our dinner orders and he acted as though I was inconveniencing him from carrying on with his conversation. Apart from the waiter all other staff was pleasant. -our second experience was for late lunch this past Sunday and it was much better. The only issues experienced were no spoons whatsoever for tea or serving our Lunch for two and no soy sauce or dipping dishes for our sushi plate. Apart from the missing utensils, dishes and condiments, the service was good. I will likely return because my family likes the diversity of dishes. He explained that we had to move our own cups/menus/silverware due to Covid which totally makes sense and that we had no problem doing! Here's what we ordered: Cabo Calamari - 4/5. However it had a good amount of "filler" to make it look a lot more full - aka breaded slices of lemon and small red peppers Bibimbap | Korean Poke Bowl - 4/5. Our food was so delicious, compliments to Chef Eber! I had the seared ahi tuna burger and it's an art and a science to cook that well. I upgraded to chili lime fries and it delivered the excitement that I wanted in my mouth! The pork belly musubi was good, as a Filipina I prefer crispy pork belly, but the appetizer's portion was generous and fun to eat. Our server was Israel and he was delightful and attentive. We even commented on the plants around the dining room that made us feel cozy.
