If you ever come to visit SF you should definitely make a point to visit SM. This was my first time dining at Pacific Catch and I loved it! I was hangry coming into the restaurant and everything on the menu looks so delicious. I chose Fish & Chips because I brake for them. The cod fish was cook perfectly and the outer crust was golden just the way you want them. I also did not have to request malt vinegar! They brought it to the table once I ordered. Really really happy we went to Pacific Catch in San Mateo for my husband's birthday luncheon. A very positive experience all around! Person on the phone was very accommodating in getting our reservation together for a party of ten. Our server Matt was attentive, friendly and engaging - even with our crazy grandsons! He even helped save a table from crashing over from our doggie who got irritated from a couple of squabbling pigeons!! The food arrived rather quickly and was fresh, tasty and generous. They add a "living wage surcharge" to your bill, then when you pay a waiter hovers around with a mobile card reader which defaults at 22% tip on top of that!! Pay your workers right and raise prices accordingly if you need to, don't surprise charge customers and guilt into higher tips. This place has a great selection of interesting sounding dishes but does not execute well. Ceviche was about as mediocre as they come, ribs are over salted, coconut shrimp do not top what you find frozen in the store. The poke bombs were a cool addition but not at all worth the price tag. We had plans of going to San Mateo and decided to try this restaurant since I love sea food. I pulled my coworkers as well and this was our first time here. We were here to have lunch and we had made a reservation thinking that it might get crowded but when we arrived the place was pretty much empty so we got a good semi private spot to enjoy our lunch. The ambience is excellent. Very comforting, relaxing and beautiful. Our server was also very friendly, he gave us good options to try out. We ordered fried Calamari from the appetizers section and it was crispy and delicious. For the main course we ordered individual plates and no complaints there either. I had ordered the poke chirasha bowl if I am spelling it correctly, which came with 3-4 proteins and the portion was huge. Although there was also a lot of rice beneath the fish. What a great dinner we had tonight. Out of the other Pacific Catch restaurants around here, this is the best. The food even tasted better, and our fish on the tacos and the salmon bowl were both still deliciously hot. Our server, Eddie, was wonderful. While most servers do the bare minimum, he went out of his way to provide us with great service. He spaced out the plates well and made sure the appetizers got there before the main dishes did, which is not always the case with other places. Plus the staff was friendly and warm. Definitely recommend coming here to the San Mateo restaurant and asking for Eddie! read more

I love the Friday night busy vibe when we arrived but since they were going to close, I also loved the quiet haha. Lovely service. My friends and I decided to have brunch at 12nn at this place. Outside dining only and servers were wearing mask. A couple of servers checked up on us and we all felt well taken care of. I ordered Asian Chimichurri Salad. What a treat! The only complain I have is the Salmon is way too small for the size of the salad. Comparing it to other places I've had salad of the same kind, their Salmon is way too small for my appetite. Aside from that, everything was great! My friends' food looked good and I will for sure go back here to try their fish tacos! 4/5 cause I think they can improve on that Salmon size. Pacific Catch is a chain of Japanese food fusion restaurants that focuses on using sustainable seafood and ingredients. I like stopping by usually for brunch or a light dinner after getting my heavy cheese foam boba fixin' at nearby Tan-Cha, LOL! Their San Mateo location is one of my favorites for a date spot. The warm weather works perfectly with the ambiance of their cute outdoor patio. My favorite time to come is right around sunset where you still get a bit of sunlight while the string lights and fire pit comes on. Perfect setting for more intimate chats. Food wise their sushi is atypical but fresh and unique. I like their Sushi Tacos which is best described as deconstructed sushi nigiris over nori with atypical garnishes varying from crispy fried shallots, citrusy serrano purée and sriracha aioli. Their Poke is a cross between a chirashi and a poke bowl with sunomono pickles and wakame salad bordering the fish cubes. Although photogenic, I would advise against ordering this as I think they reserve the lesser cuts of fish for this dish specifically. You can tell as the texture of the fish varies from normal to slightly tougher with a subtle chewiness. Also, the flavor of the fish is a little less than fresh but acceptable. Overall good place to try 4/5. Just skip the poke and order cocktails for two and enjoy the cozy ambiance. ;D read more

I came here for two back-to-back meetings, so I was hesitant to hang out for so long. The place was pretty empty during happy hour on a random Thursday, but the wait staff took such good care of me. I was immediately seated at a booth all to myself. Ordered a few beers and appetizers off the happy hour menu. The ceviche was fresh and delicious. It's really the service that was memorable. Someone always stopped by and asked if I wanted a refill or more food, and it made me feel at home. It's relatively close to Caltrain so convenient to visit. There's lots of other restaurant options nearby, but Pacific Catch is very versatile and reasonably priced. You can host special events or group dinners, or just stop by for happy hour like I did. There's a few other Pacific Catch locations in the Bay Area. I went to the San Francisco one awhile ago, but I liked the San Mateo branch better. Perhaps they were able to have stronger service because the customer flow is more manageable on the peninsula. I'd love to come here again! read more

I've read good things about their happy hour so maybe I'll give that a try in the future as their crab cakes we're the best item we got all night. Sad there was only two... Now, I'm usually pretty good about snapping pics of my food, but it all smelled so good and looked so pretty that we just dug in. Everything was great. The food, the service, the atmosphere. Prices were not bad, IMO. It's casual chic (is that a thing?) in a casual chic (it's a thing now) San Mateo area. I'm thinking that I really need to check this area out more. We went there late afternoon midweek, so parking on the street was not bad and there are lots of public lots close by. I really enjoyed strolling around the area. Lots of little shops to check out. I don't know why I put off trying Pacific Catch's tacos for so long!! I came here with my bf on a Saturday night and we ordered a poke trio, a taco trio, and a grilled artichoke. For the poke trio, we ordered the ahi tuna macadamia nut poke, the salmon avocado poke, and the california poke. My favorites were definitely the salmon avocado poke and the california poke! The tuna mac nut poke was good as well, I just liked the other ones more. The california poke tasted like a california roll with all its fixings and the salmon avocado poke was buttery and creamy! For the taco trio, we ordered the cabo shrimp, the grilled skirt steak, and the baja fish with sweet potato fries. The cabo shrimp was our favorite!! It had perfectly cooked shrimp with a crunchy batter all around, paired with a lime crema and avocado. The grilled skirt steak taco came in as a close second because the meat was super tender. Sometimes you bite into a steak taco and it's tough or chewy, but it was delicious here and not chewy at all! The baja fish was our least favorite, but that may have been because we waited a while to eat it so it got soggy. It probably tastes better if you eat it quickly after it's cooked. The artichoke was nice and meaty, a good side if you want a healthier choice! On another note, our server Alex was awesome! I don't even think he was our actual server for the night, but he took our order and he just kept coming around to check on us. I can't wait to come back to Pacific Catch again to get more tacos!
