I called for a locksmith because l got locked out of my house. San Carlos Lock and Key said one of his guys would call me back to confirm a time. The locksmith said he would arrive in 30 minutes but arrived in 45 minutes which wasn't too bad, but he charged me $385 just to pick a lock. Other locksmiths called me back within that time and said the job is $150, but I told them I already have a locksmith scheduled. San Carlos Lock and Key does not send their own guys. Instead, they contract the job out to whoever is available. They pay the contractors about $150 and they keep about $235 for simply being a relay telephone service. I know these relay services for contractors exist, and I intentionally did not hire any company who said they do this. San Carlos Lock and Key TRICKED me, making me believe they were sending one of their own employees, and not a contractor. I called back to complain, and San Carlos Lock and Key said that the price is because of "this area". I'm only 25 minutes away from them, and other locksmiths said that same service is $150. So do not use this dishonest sham of a company.

After trouble shooting several times, the reality was that we weren't going anywhere! Finally, Joe K called his 21st Century Insurance, for their roadside assistance help line. After a lengthy process of exchanging information, we were told that it would be about an hour before someone could come out. At least we were parked in the lot that had a beautiful view of the ocean. Fortunately, the wait for help didn't take long at all! A nice man pulled up next to us in his own car. (I was expecting a tow truck). He immediately brought out his battery tester/charger. It turned out the battery was indeed on it's last leg. This was unexpected since the battery was not that old, so Joe was sure something more mechanically serious would be the problem! In only a few minutes flat, the pick up started right up, and we were back on the road to a nearby auto parts store to reluctantly purchase a new battery. This put a delay in our road trip to the next vacation destination, but thankful that "Roadside 24 hour Service" was there to help us out!

I found myself in an emergency. I developed a large bubble on the sidewall of one of my tires. I…read moreoriginally stopped by a mechanic to do a patch work, but when they told me "it's dangerous to work on this tire, you need to not drive this vehicle and replace it immediately" I was in a bind. I was scared and never experienced this before. Very very unsettling, and I immediately started calling around for help. After contacting several places, including visiting Costco in foster city with no avail, I was told that many locations didn't have the tire size I needed. My vehicle has 18-inch rims...not common to carry. Finding a replacement wasn't as easy as I expected. Thankfully, this shop was extremely helpful. Not only did they have used tire I needed in stock, but they also took the time to walk me through my options and provide recommendations for future tire replacements. The front desk lady was super kind and friendly, very helpful and I appreciated her support. Very refreshing to have a memorable kind interaction. I appreciated her very much during this scary moment. What stood out most was how supportive and helpful everyone was throughout the process. They answered my questions, called me back with updates (their inventory and finding solutions), and genuinely made me feel safe and taken care of during a stressful situation. I felt they CARED. When you're dealing with something that directly impacts your safety on the road...and limited options due to it being 6pm with many local shops closing...that level of customer service means A LOT. I was able to leave with the used tire I needed and return for the future replacement they ordered for me (new, exact, and with warranty for 50k miles). Their team went above and beyond.
