Stopped in on a Sunday on my way home from up North. The place was busy but there were open tables around still. We were seated pretty quickly, but it took about 10 minutes before we were given a menus and water. It took about 40-45 more minutes to be given our food. My boyfriend and I usually stop at the pub on our way up north to the cottage. It's a cozy little place. They don't have a ton of their own beer to select from on tap at the pub. Usually about 4 and they serve food. Staff is super friendly. HOWEVER! We just found out there is a second location just down the street called Paddle Hard Microbrewery. Same owner. It's their tap room with 16+beers to choose from. They have an awesome chocolate stout that's light and sweet and a pretty decent IPA. I'm not a huge fan of IPA's usually and I really liked It. They also have a good raspberry blonde wheat beer. You can add flavorings to any of the beers too. I added mango just for shits and giggles and it still turned out pretty good. I originally would have rated the pub 4 stars because they didn't have enough of their own beer to really choose from. But now they do. We enjoying stopping in and look forward to trying more beers in the future. read more

Paddle hard brewing is located in downtown Grayling and have been there for quite some time. they've expanded to the point of having two locations on the same Main Street one they use predominately for production and brewing equipment, where as the other is more of their full-service operation. A gift shop winetasting room, brewhouse and restaurant... The interior is a true embodiment of what is so great about Grayling Michigan! it's rustic colorful and vibrant and they amazing custom nooks, industrial finishes and lighting and a super instagramable velvet purple couch lol they really do a good job of showcasing the very large and rich history that is the kayaking fishing and canoeing industry... This is more of a Gastro pub or a taphouse in the sense that they have their own house brewed beer as well as many locals from all over Michigan. Flights come in muffin tins and are assigned to numbers viewable on the flatscreen behind the bar. They have a constant rotation of beers and I would say 60% of their house brews are delicious and 40% could you some tweaking or we just don't like them but everyone has different taste. we do you leave detailed reviews on every beer on our untapped if your curious. They have indoor and outdoor seating both booth and tables and bar... The merchandise they sell is really cool and it's fairly priced... Service is good but not great consistently but it really depends on the night and how busy they are. When it does get backed up there is not a really good area to wait however you end up hovering by the door in front of the bar which sucks. As for the food they pretty much only offer artisan flat bread pizzas and a few "food truck" inspired options such as street tacos. the pizza has fantastic flavor and they use very quality ingredients, offering up a ton of combinations. they have a small appetizer menu which is pretty typical for most Gastro pubs I recommend the pretzels with beer cheese it's literally perfection. We have tried 4 styles of pizzas and every single one has been delicious. The one I got my last visit with the smoked salmon and herb pizza. YUM. They are typically open Monday through Friday until 10 PM and then Saturday and Sunday I believe they are open between 11 and midnight for this town that's relatively late my husband I have gone many times and been very satisfied. I recommend to anyone passing through or camping/kayaking in town. Street parking only but no meters! Open all year round! read more

Grayling, Mi needed something new to add to the change they are looking for. This place brings a nice ambiance with tasty craft beers. They will even infuse your beers if you're feeling a little adventurous. They also serve up a small personal pizza if you're a little hungry as well. The interior is 90% recycled materials and look awesome. They are partnered up with a wine shop that is directly next door with a door that connects the two together. I'm not sure if you can get the wine at the brewery. read more

Stopped here in our way home from Traverse City. The patio and people are super dog friendly. There were water bowls by the picnic tables and our dog Cinnamon got a warm welcome. My fiancé and I spilt the jerk chicken tacos and the chorizo pizza. Both very really good and spicy. The pie stood out because of the ricotta and mint. I didn't have any beer but the ice tea was really good. It's nice to find a place to eat in Grayling either before or after hitting I75. The great, dog friendly service and food will definitely bring me back. read more

Strictly a beer rating this time, have not had the chance to stay at eat yet. Stopped in last weekend for a growler and walked out with Michigan Ave. Honey Apple and it was great. Exceeded my expectations. Was a bit pricey compared to what I'm used to paying for a growler downstate but well worth it. Also got 2 stickers and 2 pint glasses with their nice logo. Nice atmosphere, but slow service. Overpriced for what we had, but the food was good. Most of the menu consists of their flatbread pizzas - super thin crust, with different toppings. Mine had goat cheese, garlic, red onion, pistachio and I think basil.. Anyway, it was tasty, but not worth $14, especially without meat on it. My friend had beef tacos, two small tacos with a small handful of tortilla chips and salsa - no wonder he was still hungry after eating - and the salsa was something that came out of a jar, for sure. Ugh. A restaurant that isn't a Taco Bell loses cred in my eyes when they can't use fresh salsa. Good selection of Michigan beers. And there is a cool little wine shop adjacent to this place where we got free tastings, and I bought two nice bottles to take home. Didn't get pictures of the food, as it was too dark inside. They also had a small 3-piece band that started playing just as we left, which was cool. Good place for a beer and maybe a snack, but if you want a real dinner, look elsewhere. read more

So I know that this is a brew house but I ordered some whiskey neat. When the waiter brought it over he said whoops the bartender put ice in it is that okay. I said of course not that is not what I ordered. The bartender then brought my drink over a few seconds later. It was freezing cold and obvious that she had simply strained out the ice cubes. What an amateur move! My friend and I both had fish tacos which were pretty good. But when we got the bill they charged us more than the menu stated for those items. By now the bartender was our waitress. She gave us the strange look when I brought up that the price was wrong for the food and I showed her the menu. Stopped here on our way to Traverse City. Should have kept going. For a small town restaurant I would have expected at least some sort of customer service since they aren't making money on the volume of patrons. Three different young ladies with the most depressing looks on their faces came over to see if anyone had helped us yet, then walked away. Menus took almost ten minutes to get. A beer and a wine slushy took close to 20 minutes to make it to the table. We should have sat at the bar to get any service. Food selections are interesting. We had the quinoa salad which was decent and the chicken tomato pesto flat bread. I don't think there was pesto on it since it was dry and no flavor. Thankfully there was hot sauce on the table to help it along. The server asked how everything was once I was done and then didn't prebus the table when she could clearly see I had stacked my plates and napkins. I waited so long for the check that I finally got up to go to the server to pay. Clearly no one is managing this place and it's run by twenty year olds. Scary! read more

I have been coming up to Grayling to fly fish each summer for several years. The fishing is usually quite good. The restaurant choices, well, not so much. This year, on the last night we were in tow, we went to Paddle Hard. The owners have nailed just about everything with this place. The beer selection is amazing. If you are even a little bit inclined to have a beer, there is something on the rotating tap list that will excite you. The restaurant space itself has a wonderful feel to it. The bar and wait staff are spectacular - - engaging, attentive, and gracious to their patrons. The food menu is not extensive. But that's OK. We tried the flatbreads, and they were quite good. There's enough diversity on the menu to make the next visit, or five, completely different. Next summer, I'm going up to Grayling to have some beer at this awesome brewery. I think I'll do some flyfishing while I'm in town. read more

I tried all their craft beers brewed on site and found them all to be great examples of the style they were brewed in. The pilsner was the only one that was not excellent, but it was still very drinkable for sure. The vanilla Java Porter had some good chocolate undertones along with the coffee and vanilla backdrop. The sour red ale could have been more sour, but I don't count that as a negative against the ale. The two IPA's really delivered. The craft pizza menu had a lot of interesting choices. The salmon and dill pizza was good, but the chicken garlic and red pepper pizza was even better. It was a Monday night and getting a table was easy but we took the last open table. Traffic was steady all night. I thought the beer menu on the TV's was at first gimmicky but you also was able to see keg levels real time. Good indication of what is popular. read more

We were in town on vacation and this is one place I KNEW I had to go--we were donors for the Indigogo campaign back in the day and this was the first time we had a chance to visit! I really didn't have any idea what to expect, other than my mom told me it was decent. Well, I'd up that decent to DELICIOUS. We ordered a charcuterie platter which came with a variety of tasty meats and cheeses and buttery, crisp, and chewy flatbread. We also ordered the red onion and pistachio flatbread. BOTH were really, really delicious and are things we'd highly recommend and order again! The beers on tap are posted on LCD monitors around the bar so you can see which are newly tapped, which are getting empty, and which are coming up soon. Hubby enjoyed both Paddle Hard brews he tried. The service was quick and friendly, the A/C was cranking, and though the TVs were all on a sports channel, the sound wasn't blaring and I barely registered it at all. We wish we had more time to come back here again before our vacation is over...but we'll have to wait for next year. I'm so glad Grayling has something like this now and I hope it lasts! read more

This place never disappoints! The beer is awesome. Whether it's something they have on tap or an in home brew, it's sure to hit the spot. I really liked the sours they had this last visit. I tried the Thai pizza and it was really good. There's a few more things on the menu I'd like to try but my dinner experience was great. The service is awesome. The bar staff is attentive, can discuss the beers in depth and make good food recommendations. At the end of the day a knowledgable staff that keeps your beers coming and knows the menu is as good as it gets. Can't wait to get back out here. read more

Their beers are great but they are only serving 4 of their own and two are porters...so hopefully you like porters. I typically don't but the smoked mill town Java was fabulous. My girlfriend and I always stop here on our to/from traverse city from Detroit and we always love it. The only reason it's not 5 stars is their limited selection of their own beers, but I will say the few they do brew they do well. They have an excellent chocolate stout - they also had Right Brain's CEO Stout and theirs was better. Their Marathon IPA is a solid IPA but their Blonde lacks flavor. As they add to their collection of beers, this place will continue to get better and better. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly. We look forward to future beers here. EDIT** The owner and brew master mentioned to us on our most recent time here that this is their brew pub and they have a production and tap room just down the street with about 20 beers. Between the Brew Pub on one side of M72 and the Microbrewery on the other (both still Paddle Hard) this estaishment deserves 5 stars** read more

When the manager has to comp your entire meal, including beer, it's not a great indicator of what your meal was. Appetizer, pizza, and salad all arrived together, Luke-warm and obviously long forgotten, after a request to the waitress to check. Silverware was forgotten and we sat, and sat, and sat. Pizza is bland. One star for a thoughtful beer selection. Otherwise, a total mess and a disappointment. read more
