I can't quite recall much of what happened here at Paddy Murphy's. In fact, I had to look up my credit card statement to find the name of this place. The important thing to note here is that if you're looking for a drunken good time in the Brewer/Bangor area, this is your place. I was here after a wedding reception in the area on a Saturday night, and rolled in here with my California buddies. This part of the evening was pretty blurry, but I remember that I had a blast here. It's rare that I write reviews for places that I can barely recall. However, here are the things that I do remember (or at least my camera did), which I would like to share with my fellow yelpers: - They are friendly here. Sitting down at a table of locals was perfectly acceptable. They embraced me as one of their own. - They are into intellectually-stimulating conversations while are also tolerant of different views. We were debating the merits of the Baring Straits theory with folks here with Native-American roots. They only respectfully disagreed with me when I tried to settle it by saying, "Hey look - I love drinking, smoking, and gambling. So do you. Done." - They have a lot of fun here. The ol' local saying here is: "If you can't bagah in Brewah (Brewer), take her over the bridge to Bangah (Bangor)." PS - anyone see my credit card there? read more

This place is one of the best pubs in downtown Bangor. I usally don't like pub food or pub culture in general, but this place is the expection. The atmosphere is lovely. Most people are friendly and I have yet to experience a non positive staff experience. Lastly the food is so good. This is one of the best place to eat in down town Bangor and a great place to drink. read more

Having been to Ireland quite a few times this last year, I would say this place is pretty fantastic. I hear they stay open throughout the winter when everything else closes. I had the Guinness burger, which was delicious. The beer tastes good and the staff are friendly. read more

I really enjoyed my experience here. Friendly environment and there was a group playing live Irish music. As for food, we had a hummus platter (excellent) and I had a veggie burger (just ok). My favorite part was the sweet potato fries, which were dusted with sea salt. My friend got a chicken ceasar salad which was served in a bread bowl and looked amazing. Went for lunch with my parents. I had the chicken tenders and fries. Pretty good. The breading is kinda think so I picked some of it off and man they give you a lot of chicken! I ate about half of the meal, it was so big! My dad had the pulled pork with gouda. I do not like pork but I tried it and it was pretty good. Really moist and the cheese really brought it all together to make it smooth and add a bit of creamyness to it. My mother had the Tuscan chicken sandwich. SO GOOD! Wished I had gotten that instead now lol just trust me, I cant even describe it, it is so good. Just get it. Service is a bit slow as they were packed at 1 pm on a Saturday. However the service was super friendly and the food came out warm. I like this place. read more

We had the haddock tacos (nicely broiled, not fried), crab roll (massive, like a tuna salad sandwich, not like a lobster roll), and delish French onion soup. I flew in Bangor today to visit friends in Pittsfield for a week. They took us here to grab a quick bite of lunch. Although I didn't expect to have Irish food when coming to Maine, I was pleasantly surprised! I got the open face Reuben. I am very very very picky on my Reubens. It's my favorite sandwich. I hardly ever get them when I go out because no one can seem to make it right. Well, Paddy Murphy's got it right! The waiter even brought me honey mustard for my French fries. Three times now I've called and asked how late the kitchen was open, and each time I get there they've closed it early, not even an hour after calling to check. It's very frustrating that there is no consistency; With the hours or with the staff all being on the same page regarding important restaurant information. read more

It was a Monday evening, so not crowded. I ordered a medium-rare burger called a Paddy Melt with cheese, onions and mushrooms. It came on rye toast so I ordered the toast well done--actually I said, "Make the toast dark and I don't care if you burn it. So here's what I got. A thin, perfectly circular burger that I learned was previously frozen. As served, it was bone dry with no juice whatsoever and truly devoid of any kind of beefy taste. Al big disappointment. Oh, and that toast I ordered. It appears that they never even used a toaster. The two slices of rye bread seem to have been tossed into the grill just briefly and were hardly toasted at all, and even then on one side only. So basically it was two "raw" pieces of bread. They couldn't even do that right. But it wasn't a total loss. At least I learned that if I want a good burger in downtown Bangor, I'll have to go elsewhere downtown. Which is too bad because the interior of the place was super comfortable with dark woods, dark tin ceiling, great lighting, and good Irish songs played at modest loudness with the bass turned up and the treble turned down so as not to interrupt the conversation. It was good. We came up for a work trip to Maine and heard bout burgers at this place... so my we vame here for lunch. Had guiness burger and i had haddock sandwich.. fish sandwich was good. This is one of my favorite local spots to go and unwind for the evening. They usually have great local bands playing, and the staff is incredibly attentive to customer needs. I also love that they don't shy away from loud music, which does give it an authentic pub feel. I also love the drastic shift to a quieter restaurant during lunch/early dinner when I'm looking for a less crazy time. Being "from away," this is definitely a spot that I bring every out of state visitor who comes to town. read more

We were passing through Bangor last night and stopped in at Paddy Murphy's for dinner. It's a cozy Irish pub with a great atmosphere and reasonably priced food. The "pub crawl" platter is a terrific value at $10 and could be a meal in itself. We also each had the club, which was also excellent. Both the fries and sweet potato fries are amazing. One Sunday... My man and I wanted to get lunch somewhere different. I'm always trying to find local businesses vs. Chains. We saw it was DOG FRIENDLY in the outdoor eating area. Unfortunately there was no space..BUT accidentally we discovered Sundays they have live acoustic music playing inside! It was just great. It was seat yourself. We found a clean table and sat down. Took 20 mins to get someone to come over to our table. The waitress looked at out table many many times before she came over. After 10 minutes after we sat down a party of 5 came in and received service right away. My house made chips were greasy and we returned my wife's sweet potato fries because they were cold, only to have them replaced by overcooked sweet potato fries! The one star was for the Guinness. This happened in August 2011. I was working in Bangor for a few days/night so I thought this seemed like a place to get some pub grub. How can you screw up French onion soup. I was given a crappy piece of white wonder bread and unmelted cheese. The Guinness stew was the worse slop I think I've ever been served. I stopped eating it after few bites. They threw a giant piece of scali in the stew to soak up some broth or fat, not sure which. We live on MDI and make it a point to stop in for lunch at Paddy's whenever we venture out to Bangor for shopping. Almost always end up getting the same thing: the wings, bangers for him, Hungarian mushroom soup in a bread bowl for me. Never disappointed! read more

Their Paddy Melt burger is to die for, as well as their seasons fries! We got the gouda dip appetizer as well, and it was fantastic. The atmosphere is great, the small feel is wonderful and the service was impressive. It was a busy Friday night when we went, it was a full house, and we got seated within 15 minutes and our service was fast and great. This is an all around amazing little place! Definitely a no-frills locals hang-out. Offers a live weekly trivia game on Wednesdays that requires a nominal cash buy-in (pretty fun), but the games drag on for more than 2 1/2 hours. The food is slightly below average bar fare, but most disappointing is their limited draft beer selection. There are few tvs, so it's not an ideal spot to watch a sports game. Other than hosting trivia, the bar has limited appeal. Whenever the construction in downtown Bangor is completed, Paddy's will benefit from more foot traffic. Good food, great atmosphere. I'd suggest the appetizer platter that has sweet potato fries, onion rings, chicken fingers, and chicken drumsticks. It's a huge portion of food for only $10! I'll usually get the BBQ pulled pork which is served on toasted bread with melted cheese and coleslaw on top, also around $10. So for $20 ($30 with drinks) two people can fill up on some of the best food in town pretty darn cheaply. read more
