    Happy Birthday, Zach!!
    Sean C.

What a fantastic experience with Empire Cake! I ordered a Liliko'i cake from them and it was ready on-time, with no hassle. The service staff were AMAZING when I came to pick it up, and the cake itself was out of this world. The cake was, and I mean this sincerely, the best cake that I've ever eaten. The inscription was perfectly executed, the taste and texture were perfect, the frosting was just right. The filling was perfectly executed. It was packaged securely and came with clear instructions for preparation and serving. Even their cute little shop was well-appointed with accessories like cards, candles, and a seating area. Brightly lit, airy, and clean, it's perfect.

    Black and White Cookie.

We couldn't come to New York City and not get a Black and White cookie. It just can't be done. We'd heard that Empire Cake had an especially good version, so we popped in during one of our travel days. They had Black and White cookies of varying sizes, so I went with the medium and dug in. It's really good. Like, shockingly good. I was surprised by the soft, cake-like texture (i.e. a traditional cookie this is not), but it's so tasty that you don't even think about that. It's certainly a very sweet concoction but not oppressively so. And yeah, Seinfeld was right, you do have to get a bit of the black and the white in each bite. I'm frankly a little stunned these things aren't available everywhere, they're just that good.

This Pistachio praline cake was the bomb! Melt in your mouth smooth and buttery pistachio crème. Whipped in between layers with bits and leaves of praline and pistachio. Just yumm. Happy I found this place. Service was great, careful and attentive in your need. Store from was clean and welcoming. Last minute cake toppers/ candles also available. Possible to order onshore or online. Would recommend.

Tried cupcakes from here and they were absolutely amazing. Beautifully decorated, not too sweet and they had some great flavors.

Great experience here and my second time ordering custom cakes. These were to celebrate my friend becoming a US citizen, so we ordered cupcakes with American flags. Easy ordering and pick up experience and the cakes turned out just as we hoped.

Delicious treats but pricey. Love that they have a variety of options and desserts to choose from.

    What I ordered

I'm extremely disappointed with the service I received from Empire. I placed an order for a special cake for my milestone birthday, but when I arrived to pick it up, the order was completely messed up with the incorrect design. I was told I had two options: wait for a new cake, but my birthday was less than an hour away, or take the incorrect cake and receive a full refund. Given the time constraint, I reluctantly accepted the second option, but was only partially refunded. The error was entirely on their part, and a $50 partial refund for a ruined cake, especially on such a special day, felt inadequate. I have reached out multiple times to resolve this, but have received no response. I am extremely disappointed as I had ordered my cake from them last year and have been a patron for years. If management is reading this post, I would appreciate a follow up to address.

Average alert! The place looks the part but almost everything I had was average. The lemon bar wasnt a bar... it was mushy although it did have a lemony flavor. The "twix bar" was more of a mousse. The cookies were ok. The best thing I had was the chocolate covered cake bites. Wouldn't come back unless in a bind.

Stopped for some B&W cookies as they were on the list of top 10 cookies in NYC. They have ALOT of good stuff in here. Ordered to-go cookies for the boys and ordered a blackout snack cake for now. Was moist, fresh, and really rich. What makes this a 5 is the guy working custom made me a chocolate milk with the ganache chocolate and took the extra step to try for a customer. Other places wouldn't have tried. Cheers- the B&W was a different take on it - but damn, if that's not #1 on the list I can't wait to see why not. My favorite black and white cookie to date.

A friend suggested this bakery for us to order birthday cakes for a gathering in the city. The cakes did not disappoint. Not overly sweet but full of flavor. Also packaged really well to transport to the hotel for the celebration! Also the wedding cake on display was stunning. A great option if you are looking for something special!

These cakes were incredibly delicious!! Not too sweet and very smooth. Some friends ordered a strawberry layered cake and a strawberry with lemon layer cake, both so so good. I would so come here again.

Cupcake base is good! Fluffy moist cake. The rating below is based on the frosting and it's compatibility with the rest of the cake Oreo - 3/5 Pistachio - 1/5 Red velvet - 5/5

There was a bit of a line, but it moved pretty quickly. I am boring, so I just ordered the plain vanilla cupcake, but it was just perfect. It was fresh and the cake itself was wonderful. We had a big party--everyone was happy, but particularly happy with the cookie dough and red velvet. Definitely worth a visit.

So there is a lot to unpack from my visit to SoHo to pick up a cake from my sister. I woke up at…read more5pm and headed straight here from Queens and chose this place over 4 others close by in the area. I hadn't been here in years so when I pulled up I took a step back to take it all in, the cutesy interior which was clean and not too brightly lit. I checked out the cake prices and flavors and when I was sure of what I wanted I stepped up to the counter and began to take pictures bc there were like 4 attendants and I waited for one to engage with me. A young man did he said are you ready to order I said yes and told him I wanted a strawberry shortcake slice $10 and a Brooklyn black out slice (also $10 and the actual reason I came). When he was boxing I took pictures and thought oh maybe I should switch to the hostess slice (out loud). Another attendant said sure, but then the first one pulled up with the boxes and I was like ok I'll just get a cupcake separate. Why I walk back to the cupcakes to choose and the young man starts helping someone new and I look him in the eye he then rushes over but again starts taking another customer. They were 3 customers in the store in total including me so why he didn't want to provide me service I do not know. But it made me so upset I was like wow am I really gonna spend this much money and this guy is being rude. I had to now get in line behind the 2 other patrons that came in after me. The attendant who rung me up tried to empathize and offered me a free $1 candle- it came from a cup of candle in front of the register and when he placed it on top of the box it rolled onto the counter and I said how many ppl touched that?? It's going in a cake someone is going to eat. I declined the candle, paid and probably will never return. Strawberry shortcake slice was a 6/10 tasted old Hostess cupcake 10/10 I inhaled it no crumbs Brooklyn blackout cake 15/10 moist, thick chocolate perfect. Now I'll tell you right now the birthday cake I got my sister was worth the $25 and change I paid for it. She liked it, I liked it, it made her happy- but the service made me frown I really didn't like it. Total rating 3.5

Okay I was cracking up about my experience here because I literally asked the dumbest question to…read morethe guy working but he was so nice and explained the answer to me until I understood! So fun fact they are now advertising Banana Pudding Hot Chocolate and it is NOT actual hot chocolate but banana pudding made to taste like hot chocolate. Why I got so confused? I don't know! Maybe I have been watching too many videos about Tyra Banks Hot Ice Cream. Either way I appreciate the guys patience and kindness when explaining it to me twice especially because I did not end up ordering that at all (though it sounds interesting) but I did get the regular actual hot chocolate and it was amazing! It tasted like melted marshmallows were in it! Perfect for a cold winter day. In addition we got to the humming bird cake, a cupcake, and the regular banana pudding. My husband had never been here before so you know we had to get the banana pudding, it's their claim to fame. And it is decent. Growing up in North Carolina banana pudding is taken very seriously and is literally at every gathering. Would this be a contender for the cookout? Sure! I have no complaints about. The other baked items were delicious as well. The store is cute unfortunately this location has no indoor seating but plenty of outdoor. It was like negative degrees when we went so we definitely did not sit outside. All and all it's a cute bakery/ sweets shop. There are many locations through out the city. I've been to others and it is consistent. It's definitely not a bad dessert spot to try.

Another employee, Kirk--an older gentleman who looked completely out of place--approached and coughed directly over the slice of cake that had just been cut for me. Yes. Over it. At that moment, I honestly wondered if it was intentional. A young woman nearby immediately caught my reaction and went to the back to replace the slice. She handled the situation professionally and deserves recognition. Unfortunately, the chaos continued. Kirk later made me a hot cocoa, and when I went to drink it, it spilled on me because the lid wasn't secured properly. At that point, I stopped believing in coincidences. And the cake? The German chocolate cake was terrible--dry AF and nothing like the Grand Central location. Not even remotely close. Between the coughing, the spill, and the subpar cake, this visit was uncomfortable, messy, and disappointing. Magnolia should seriously reconsider who they put on the floor and retrain accordingly--because this location is not living up to the brand. But honestly, I believe the 2 guys had to be the owners. While the presentation was 10/10 across the board, the flavors ranged from "nostalgic perfection" to "a bit of a letdown." Devil Dog (The Winner): This was by far my favorite. It was a trip down memory lane, perfectly capturing that nostalgic Hostess chocolate cupcake flavor I loved as a kid. Lemon Raspberry Meringue: Coming in a close second, this cupcake was bright, fruity, and incredibly fresh. It felt light and offered a great balance to the richer flavors in the box. Ube: This cupcake was stunning to look at. However, the flavor didn't quite live up to the exotic profile of a purple yam; it tasted like a traditional vanilla cupcake that just happened to be purple. Great for the aesthetic, but standard in taste. Hummingbird: This was the only real disappointment. I was expecting the signature tropical punch of pineapple, but it lacked that acidity. Instead, it felt more like a simple banana nut muffin with icing on top. Final Verdict: Overall, the experience was positive. The shop clearly has a talent for decor and nostalgia. I'd definitely return for the Devil Dog and the Lemon Raspberry, but I might skip the Hummingbird next time. Last Note: The woman working in the bakery was a bit rude and had an attitude and that alone will make me not com back no matter how good the cupcakes are.
