I used to be a regular customer at Pags. I went there yesterday because I was in town for my 50th high school reunion and wanted the enjoy the old experiences and now live in RI. I purchased two linguine with withe clam sauce dinners at 1 PM and paid the dinner price of $51. The bread was moldy and I ate some of my meal, but the other meal was discarded due to health concerns. I spoke to Jane today and she said the bread is baked fresh every day and would offer to replace the bread. I asked that one order be refunded but was told by the owner Jane this was not an option. Sorry to see that an icon has gone downhill. It is one thing to raise your prices, but should never skimp on the quality. I worked at Teresa's restaurant in New Britain back in the 70s and momma Teresa Damiano would not treat her customers this way. I used to make the pizza dough and pizzas with fresh yeast in the pizza dough in the recipe, so I am not buying the crappy explanation that the yeast caused the bread to look moldy. Since it was an early afternoon order we were served old moldy bread. I will not be back. read more

Caveat: this was my 1st place of employment when attending Plainville High School, so I'm slightly biased. :) It doesn't get better than this for Italian food in central CT! I grew up eating at this restaurant and loved it so much it became my first place of employment. Daily, they bake fresh Italian bread, garlic sticks (I can still taste them), home made pasta, home made stuffed shells, manicotti, pizza, sauces - the list is endless. Their lasagna is to die for. The layers are endless, and it has just the right amount of cheese, sauce & ground beef. Their sauces are all home made - I used to make the pizza sauce and dough. All fine ingredients and expert care is taken in preparing every meal. Sautéed dishes abound - try their Chicken Scarpriello or Marsala - both are great and can be done over pasta or with a side. Desserts? How about home made rice pudding or a number of other delicious items to choose from. You won't leave here hungry - pasta dishes are served in huge bowls and enough for two meals. read more

I was there with some friends for Thanksgiving. Everything from the bread to the Thanksgiving plate of turkey, gravy, potato etc was delicious. We went again last light and our dinner wasn't so good. We had calamari that was chewy, bread that had been put in the oven to heat it up but had no taste, veal francaise that was just ok, and a side of pasta which was slightly overcooked and had a bitter tasting tomato sauce on it. This is one of the first Italian restaurants I ate at in CT. I'm usually a long noodle kind of Italian girl, but when I heard they make their own thick ziti, I had to have it. I ALWAYS order the homemade ziti with the spicy arrabiatta sauce. It has hot peppers, capers, and olives in a chunky red sauce, it's the best sauce ever! This is my go to dish here and I honestly don't think I've had anything other than this, because I can't bear to change it up, it's that good. The noodles are fresh and huge, and I love the little hole in the middle. The sauce is super spicy, the way it should be, it's just absolutely delicious!! read more

Went there on 2-25 with my family. Not busy at all. One meal out of 4 was good. I had chicken Marsala with mushy on the side, they put the mushrooms on the side, but instead of the Marsala sauce on my dish they put a brown sauce. Pasta was mushy on all 4 dishes. Chicken must have been defrosted in the microwave because it was rubbery and hard on the edges. Don't mind paying for a good meal, but at least get it right. I will say the waiter was very good. Just saying $180 for 4 people including the tip was very upsetting to say the least. I expect better from this restaurant! Very disappointed. DN read more

Fantastic italian food. Seems like a family owned restaurant, Pretty spacious.Went with family for dinner and found most of the tabled occupied with other families or friends catching dinner. Started with minestrone soup, which was fresh and served hot. Since they mention that they make pasta fresh everyday, got the pasta with arabiatta sauce. It was delightful as the sauce had a blend of peppers, olives, capers and garlic that offered a perfect balance of appropriate heat and flavor. Also got the eggplant parmigiana and veggies on the side. The eggplant was cooked well so that it was soft and melts in your mouth. Chicken Francois disappointing because the sauce was absolutely tasteless. No yummy, lemony deliciousness that I was looking forward to. It utterly pains me to write this review. We went out to dinner with my parents last night. As appetizers for the table we ordered fried mozzarella and eggplant fries. The eggplant fries were so thin and thusly overcooked they were more like potato chips. Both my wife and daughter had stomach aches over night from the fried mozzarella. My mother being the small eater she is ordered a bowl of pasta fagioli for dinner and one to go as well. This place made it reminiscent of how her mother made it. Not only did she stop eating the bowl she cancelled the to go order. My father and daughter both orders the baked ziti. Their house made ziti I've never understood why it's so thick but I accept it's the way they make it. It's ziti sauce cheese baked and more sauce poured over it. My wife ordered the baked half chicken which was decent a little dry on the breast meat but I usually prefer dark meat anyways. My chicken cacciatore failed in comparison to one I had at home just last week. And this is why I have to rate so low. We have seen other issues along the way pointing to a decline from their once and former glory. When I first learned about this place I would have rated it a 5+ star review. The food would have rivaled that of a much more expensive Italian restaurant. But over the years I've been less and less impressed. An order of fried calamari in the past where the coating just fell off of it the sauces don't have their flavor punches they used to. Like it said it pains me to have to write this, but I have to write based on my now feelings and not their former glory. My favorite Italian place in Plainville -- I have been coming here for 27 years and am not sick of it. Ever. I love the huge portions, fast service, breadsticks they serve you. My favorite dishes are the classic ones -- chicken and eggplant parm, meat ball grinders. I love it all there. Fresh made pasta too, made on premises. The sauce is delicious, thick and wonderful. Had my graduation dinner here and we all had a great evening! The restaurant was pretty slow, it was 730 on a Wednesday night, so service was no issue. Bread and salads came out super quick, which was awesome because we were so hungry! Our main entrees came out shortly thereafter. The menu looks like it has recently been revamped--my mom's favorite dish was nowheres to be found--if this happens to you, just ask if they are still able to make it, that's what we did and my mom got her chicken scarpiello just like she always used to! I had baked ravioli with a bolognese sauce--hearty and comforting, as always. After eating as much as we could, we all had to-go containers full of delicious Italian food. We were pleasantly surprised by the interior and how large it was. we arrived around 4:30 so it was wide open but by the time we left things were hopping which we thought was great. My husband had pasta and he did agree that the sauce was salty. For him to say that was unusual so if see that that is common complaint and maybe the kitchen should listen. However, everything else was excellent! So imagine how it would be with a little less salt. Despite the over-salted sauce, we will definitely come here again. At this time the server still did not come to see us. Finally, she arrived we placed the and I ordered a meatball grinder with fresh green peppers. Well I received roasted peppers and was charged extra $2.00, What are you kidding me. The manager offered to change it but it was already too late... Ordered fried calamari was delicious. My wife received her salad before the appetizer What the Hell............So sad. My wife had the manicotti which was good but how can you screw up that dish unless you burn it....So sad a Very Unhappy Customer will not be back. Is there a way to give less than 1 star? This restaurant is horrible on so many levels. We were a reservation of 11 people on Father's Day. We were shoved into a corner at a cluster of tables which could only have seated 8 comfortably. We were given 2 menus and told the rest would be dropped off, because they didn't have enough in the restaurant to go around. After 10 minutes of no more menus and no server, I had to go to the hostess stand to get them myself. The water glasses were water spotted and had bits of food stuck to them. The water pitchers were cloudy plastic (from overuse) like you'd find at a dive bar. When the food arrived, everyone got their meals except for my father. On Father's Day. TWENTY MINUTES later, after I had to make 3 trips to find our server, he finally got his lasagna. LASAGNA is what took that long. My son's "medium rare" steak was so well done it was gray. My husband's veal pagliacci was cube steak. My pasta puttanesca was 2lbs of angel hair with a jar of sauce dumped on top, sprinkled with capers. All the other meals were mediocre at best. And the lasagna was absolutely NOT worth the wait. The kids all got dessert (still hungry because their meals were inedible), and when the bill arrived, nothing was done to make up for the horrendous experience. No first round of drinks on the house, no free dessert, no comped lasagna. The server took so long coming back for the bill, that I had to bring it out her at the hostess stand. My mother was so distraught that our celebration of my father was so awful, that she couldn't even speak to anyone at the restaurant that evening. She called on Monday and asked to speak to a manager. She received a half-hearted apology, but no offer to refund a portion of the bill, or send a gift certificate (not that we would EVER go back). Severely disappointed in this place which many describe as a Plainville favorite. Do NOT waste your time or money at Pagliacci's. read more

What a fantastic little gem! We stopped here on a whim for dinner with our two young boys. I'm so glad we did. The food is all very good, a fact to which I can attest because I tried about half the menu one way or another. Our server, Laura, was wonderful. We are visiting from out of town and just stumbled upon this place by chance. It smelled great, the dessert displays out front looked great, and the menu seemed promising. Indeed, the food itself did not disappoint. The Manhattan clam chowder was the best version we've ever tried, the cannoli were the best we've ever tried, and all the other dishes we ordered were great too, such that everyone in our party happily polished off their entire meals, including the kids.
