We've passed by but finally pulled in for lunch on a Saturday. This is a handsome, clean "family" restaurant that seems like a diner (lots of booths, a glass-door cooler with beautiful desserts on display, etc.) It's also a professional restaurant. There's a modest bar program with a fair wine selection. They use cloth napkins. The cutlery is substantial - not that stamped metal crap. And the menu was ambitious. The homemade focaccia bread was delicious. We ordered a special appetizer, grilled octopus, and an appetizer of broccoli rabe with sausage, garlic and oil. Both of us were amazed at the tenderness of the octopus. And it had been cooked over a charcoal grill and had a wonderful flavor. The broccoli rabe was cooked perfectly. The sausage was delicious. I had a Riesling that was very, very good. My second glass, now a Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, had been poured from a bottle that was open too long - I left half of it. Entree for best buddy was shrimp fra diavolo. The shrimp were large; the sauce good, but it had little kick. I had a humble burger - grilled on charcoal. It was delicious. The steak fries that came with were unremarkable. Service was very cheerful and helpful. After dinner, she admitted that the coffee was old and asked if I minded waiting for a fresh pot. Not at all! She also followed-up on my request for Franjelico on the side (She thought they didn't have it - I told her anisette would be okay) and happily presented it in a generous pour! There are not enough words I could scream about this place so I will just tell you to do yourself a favor the next time you're hungry for something delicious, authentic, homemade, indulgent, comforting, and in heaping portions and come here to eat your body weight in all the Italian goodness you could ever want. Been years since I have eaten at Pagliacci's and tonight the wife and I decided to order take-out for dinner. I ordered the Sausage Cavatelli Pagliacci while the wife ordered the Penne Primavera. Both dishes were delicious. The cavatelli included long hots for a bit of bite with the sausage and broccoli rabe and the primavera had fresh veggies in garlic and olive oil. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Very enjoyable. Will be visiting again soon to dive deeper into the menu. read more

We had a great takeout dinner the other night from here. I haven't been in many years and always remembered having good food. I ordered the house made ravioli baked with Alfredo sauce and ham. The ravioli are very good and I really enjoyed the Alfredo sauce. My wife had the chicken scarpariello and she said it was very good. Definitely try the homemade ziti we both loved it. First it was Mother's Day late afternoon place had full tables we were sat down by who I think was the owners wife we didn't get any bread till we asked for it 4 times we ordered appetizers then ordered ate entrees soups and salad the appetizers came out then after like 4to 5 minutes the entree's came out with no room on the table the women said there was no room in the kitchen for them so they squished all the plates on the table then they started removing plates that we still didn't get to touch they rushed us to finish and the women owner actually asked how long were we going to be we took stuff home we left with the worst food we had there since the new owners took over I also have a family member who was told by the husband that he was banned from there after going there since he's lived for 20 or more years close by all because he asked the woman on the phone if they could wrap his 3 take out hero's in foil instead of the foam containers for sandwiches cause they sweat and the bread gets soggy cause they ordered the week before and it happened the wife n husband started screaming get out your banned well enjoy your slop this place dropped a lot read more

Came here for my birthday. Hadn't been here in roughly 35 years, and now I remember why. My mother ordered stuffed shells with marinara sauce. The waitress claimed they had given her stuffed shells to another table, and the person started eating it so they had to remake. When they finally brought the stuffed shells, they were not very warm. My daughter ordered homemade ziti (pictured here). When it was brought to the table, we were shocked to see something that was so undercooked and doughy. We've had homemade pasta every place from Arthur Avenue to other home style restaurants, and I've never seen anything like this. I tried a piece without sauce because I wanted to see if this was as undercooked as it looked. There was an underlying taste of mildew, as if the pasta had sat in a case for way too long. Four of us at the table tried a piece, and we all agreed that there was something off about this pasta. Told the waitress, and my daughter decided not to wait for another meal to be made. I had a pizza, and others had big dishes, so she was going to share ours. The manager came flying over to the table and said that "3 of us " in the back tried the pasta (which I thought was odd.... In these days of Covid, you're eating off a returned customer plate?!??), and the pasta was fine. She didn't taste mildew. I told her you could see how undercooked it looked, and my husband said we all tried it, and it tasted wrong. Her response was that if my daughter wasn't going to order another dinner that they'd have to charge her a shared plate charge. Really? A customer returns food due to quality issues, and now you're going to charge them anyway? I was shocked how unapologetic and accusatory she was. I pretty much swallowed my anger so as to not make a scene, but I was very upset. The 2 stars is only because our waitress was nice, and I recognized this was in no way her fault. Won't return. As we we approached the front door, a big guy was walking out with a huge take-out order. As we set foot inside, we saw a dozen take-out orders lined up on the counter like a parade. Pagliacci's is always busy. We were here before 5:00 on a Saturday and it was packed. Dinner started with their complimentary bread basket -chock full of garlic sticks and fresh Italian bread. Our orders were Baked Ziti with a Meat Ragu sauce ($15.95) and a Calamari over Linguine Fra Diavlo ($19.95). Both portions were gargantuan. The calamari was piping hot, the Ziti was warm but not piping hot. My Calamari was great- a huge portion of grilled calamari, a huge portion of linguine in a great tasting sauce. One nit-pick, I asked for the Fra Diavlo to be very spicy, but it was barely spicy.. Both meals came with a good sized salad included in the dinner cost. Service was eh - nothing great. Not one check-back on the food. Not one offer to refill the drinks.at all. She delivered a meal to the table next to us, she was six feet away, and never turned to say a word to us.Maybe she was having a bad night. Pagliacci's used to be a consistent meal for dining in or take out. Always had wonderful dinners (fresh, good quality specials with fresh fish and beef). Not sure what happened, but many friends and myself found one day it was wonderful and the next seemed like food tasted like it was microwaved from lunch. One friend found an eggplant slice in her meatballs. A restaurant cannot survive on inconsistency. How sad to see that the owner (Nino's in Waterbury) has let this restaurant go - not to mention surcharges (adding $1 for a piece of cheese which was listed on menu as a cheese burger) + an extra charge for pasta that comes with the meal.Are you kidding me? read more

it's Mother's Day called to make reservations, upon arrival my party of 7 was seated 5 minutes 2 other parties are seated next to us, they get menus drinks and one table got bread, mind you it's been 25 minutes already and I don't even know who my server is, asked to find out who it was and still no one came to the table. The portions are always huge and we consistently walk away with enough for another meal at home. They make their own pasta and that is what I normally order. It's a can't miss. We ordered take out. The kid on the phone was clueless. Ordered 4 dinners, that all come with salad. Only received 2. Also ordered 2 apps, 1 wasn't available due to it being the wrong menu, but the right menu wasn't available online???? . But ok. Got the wrong app. Ordered the hot pepper, sausage & potatoes. Got broccoli Rabe with some flat creepy looking sausage (I think) thing. 3 of the 4 dinners were correct. The seafood fra diavolo had 3 shrimp, 3 clams & 30 calamari rings that weren't properly prepared. They still had the membrane or skin or whatever else shouldn't be left on it, so every bite of that I had to pull some weird stringy skin type of gunk off of it. The fra diavolo was marina. And there was barely enough sauce to cover 1/4 of the linguini. I had to add heat & sauce at home. Very disappointing. Are there new owners? I've never had issues here. read more

I would have to describe this as a mediocre dining experience. On the plus side, they have on-site parking and I didn't have trouble finding a space. I was also greeted promptly and was able to get seated very quickly upon arrival. Another positive is that my waiter was friendly attentive. My primary concerns with this restaurant are the taste/quality of food and the price paid relative to what you get. I did get a complimentary basket of bread but I didn't eat much of it because it was rather stale. I ordered a Shirley temple to drink and far to much syrup was put in it. I had the stuffed calamari as an appetizer which was about the best thing that I had, but not what you might be expecting if you see the name. Luckily the waiter warned me ahead of time it wouldn't be breaded and would likely surprise me visually. For the entree I had the NY strip stroganoff. It comes with either soup or salad and I opted for salad. I asked tor no tomato but there was a tomato. The lettuce wasn't good quality and the salad was drenched in dressing which was watered down for some reason. It was as if the Italian dressing had been combined with water and overly poured over the salad. The pasta was hot but quite bland despite its appearance. The steak was also a bit too cooked and didn't appear to be quality meat. It wasn't worth the price. read more

We were customers of Pagliacci's for many years. When Dennis managed Pagliacci's it was a great restaurant with excellent food and service. Every Thanksgiving we would have reservations for our family there. We hadn't been back in quite a while but decided to make reservations for this Thanksgiving even though we were aware that Dennis had retired. We had hoped the restaurant would carry on as usual but this was not the case, our Thanksgiving dinner was totally ruined by going there. We had confirmed our reservations twice and when we arrived the manager could not find our reservation and said to just sit anywhere, so we did. We thought it odd because Pagliacci's was always packed for Thanksgiving and now out of 18 booths there were only four tables with customers. I started to get a bad feeling, then we met our server who was fantastic, we all asked for turkey dinners with white meat, what we usually ordered every Thanksgiving, and were told that we had no choice we had to have dark meat, we do not like dark meat and did not want to eat something we did not like. Our server explained that she was told there are no choices or exceptions because they do not have enough turkey. I then asked for the manager, he basically could care less and said they do not have enough turkey and we had to have dark meat and walked away. We tried to make the best of a bad situation and just ordered something else, we waited almost one hour for our food, our server who was excellent kept apologizing for everything (none of which was her fault). When we finally got served, two people in our party ordered pasta dishes which were totally inedible as they were way too hot and spicy due to the many extremely hot peppers in it, they did not want to complain so they just had their dinners wrapped to go. Me, I ordered turkey soup which I had to cancel thanks to my server telling me it also was made with dark meat, she was so nice and she felt so bad about everything she brought me a side salad for my dinner. What a horrible Thanksgiving dinner experience! The best part of our dinner was our server. Ever since Dennis retired, I see that the management has gone downhill. This restaurant ran like clockwork for many, many years, but no more. The current management is horrible there now, don't you think a capable manager should know about how many turkeys they should cook for Thanksgiving when they know in advance how many reservations there are, plus takeout orders. Takeout orders got precedence over dine-in customers with reservations, you waited forever for your food and could only order what they told you they had left over for turkey, the manager informed us that we had no choice! Unbelievably poor management! This restaurant has a lot of potential and could be what it once was under the right management, someone who knows what they are doing and who cares about their customers. We will not be back after this experience. Needless to say, I do not recommend this restaurant under the current management. We visited on a Sunday for dinner since we were shopping in the area. We've been once before and food was decent so we decided to give it another go. The entrance is a little cramped so if there's a wait you pretty much need to stand outside or be comfortable giving up your personal space. Decor is pretty dated but clean. In front you can view where they make their home made pasta which seems to be a big draw for this restaurant. It's super thick- like unusually thick- and heavy. I heard a server refer to the ziti as a garden hose if that's any indicator! All dinners come with salad and bread. I do love their bread- they give you warm thick slices and seasoned sticks. I opted for the Shepard's pie which was on their specials that night. It was ok- somewhat bland but it gave me the home cooked comfort food feeling that I was looking for. They were so mushy after the microwave I told server they don't taste good. She sent over manager/owner and asked about them again.
