First off, let me start by saying there are a number of terrific restaurants to dine at in Santa Fe. We've been fortunate enough to eat at quite a few of these establishments. It's a high bar that has been set for us, and we don't take that lightly, or for granted, because we feel very lucky to live in a place that has such wonderful restaurant options to choose from. We had dinner at Palace Prime last night and we were honestly blown away. It was a trifecta of perfection for us: ambience, service and the cuisine. All of which were exceptional. It's a rare occurrence when all three aspects of a restaurant experience are this level of excellence. We were greeted by the hostess who welcomed us with friendly enthusiasm and sat us immediately at a wonderful table. My husband and I got to sit next to each other at a table that allowed us to look out at the interior of the restaurant. Beautiful and interesting artwork adorned the walls, which only added to the ambience. We could see that the restaurant was full, but it wasn't loud, so we could talk with one another easily, without having to raise our voices to hear each other, as is often the case. Our server, Daniel, came to our table, greeting us with the utmost professionalism. He gave us time to look over our menus, told us of the specials, and offered some feedback on some of the choices we expressed interest in. In the end, we ordered, and shared, fresh oysters, tuna tartare and hamachi crudo. Husband had the mushroom pasta and I had the risotto seafood chowder. Christina, who we have dubbed The Angel of Wine, brought her wine expertise to the table so we could choose the perfect bottle of wine for our meal. She did not disappoint with a recommendation of Pouilly Fume. Everything we ordered was a delicacy. The oysters were incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. The hamachi crudo and tuna tartare were both amazing, though I think the tuna was slightly better than the hamachi, which is really saying something, because both were wonderful. The pasta and risotto were equally as delicious. And, the wine was the perfect bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal. For dessert, I had the sorbet and husband had the Chocolate Bottom Pie. Both were as good as the dinner. When we finished, the Chef, Angel Franco, came out and introduced himself and thanked us for dining at his restaurant. Every aspect of the evening was perfect. We cannot wait to go back!! I hope this review will inspire others to experience Palace Prime for themselves. They will not be disappointed!! read more

Absolutely yum yum. The staff was accommodating. Answered all of our questions and were happy to give suggestions. The rack of lamb was tender on the inside and juicy with crispy edges. It did not stand a chance against my husband. The pork chop with honey cider glaze was fresh and not too tough. This was my father in law's favorite spot back in the day, and I was excited to visit and see how the transition went. It was my birthday, and I was really excited to have a ribeye, but when we got there...it was off the menu. Long way of saying, the menu on their website (which includes the famous ribeye) needs to be updated to reflect the new direction of the kitchen, which includes fewer steak choices (only steak frites and filet mignon). We had a reservation in the lounge on a Saturday night and it was a great meal. Service was a little slow, but not an issue since we weren't in a hurry. My wife had the squid ink spaghetti and and I had the tagliatelle with lamb merguez and both were two of the best entrees we've had in Santa Fe (or anywhere) in a long time. The lounge and bar were full, but it was still fairly quiet and they clearly considered sound dampening when they did the remodel. We'll definitely go back - the food was exceptional. read more

Started out with great service. They nicely split our Wedge Salad and it was delish. My partner got the lemon ricotta ravioli which was small but awesome. I got the pork chop which was dry and over cooked Both of us thought it was not good especially at 36-38 dollar meal. So, I sent it back. The manager came over and said he had managed to squeeze a little juice out of it near the bone but whatever, he'd have them recook it. (Basically he took it out to the curb and ran his truck over it to get a wee bit of a drop). He should have apologized and just brought out a fresh one. The new one they did bring out was good on the edges but the inside of the chop was raw. I love this place but really if you're spending this kind of money, should the manager make a point to make you feel bad because his staff can't cook a chop? Anyway, next time I go I'm just getting the green chili Mac and cheese because that was amazing. Since I live here, I really want places to be proud of their dishes and not just hand out anything because it's a tourist town. read more

Not good enough! For a steak house it was an average place. Escargot wasn't really very good, the calamari was your sort of average, everyday fried calamari you get anywhere and the steaks - supposedly Prime cut - were, well, just not that good. They were okay, I ate the whole NY but I've had way better steaks in Santa Fe. The service was average. Very nice people but the pacing of service wasn't very good, and leaving that many empty glasses on the table between service was ... well the whole thing was simply not fine dining and for $65 for a steak and $500 for 4 people ... sorry, just not good enough, won't go back read more

Ordered the cheese plate and the mushroom Ravioli. The Ravioli was delicious the cheese plate was really under whelming. They had a house preserve that was like a cinnamon apple sauce the bread was harder than a crouton. The service is maybe too much they have one drunk guy and I presume a manager that comes around behind the drink guy. Originally we booked the lounge for dinner. Upon arrival we found it to be intimate and pleasant, but too many tables too close together for our preference. They were very happily moving us to the main dining room, where it's spacious, and you have more personal space. We ordered the cheeseboard appetizer, which was very nice, and we had the ribeye, and the New York strip steaks. We found them both to be quite delicious and at the standard you expect for a southwest america located steakhouse. The desserts we found to be a mix. I went for for the ice cream which, of course are fine, and my friend had the chess cake with chocolate bottom, which he found OK, but not to his taste. They were extremely helpful with the wines, they had a sommelier come over, who really understood what we wanted, and what they had; he accommodated us perfectly. Overall the service was polite, attentive, and quite good. It was an enjoyable experience, and would not hesitate to recommend. read more

We got into Santa Fe late on a Thursday & were having trouble finding a place still serving. A lovely hostess at a place closing up sent us to Palace and it was a great tip. We sat at the bar (so fun!) and had a hamachi sashimi starter that was so fresh and tasty. I wasn't real hungry so I had a caesar salad that was big enough to share with the SO, and a bowl of a chilled borscht. Now, I love beets so this may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it, especially after a hot drive. The SO had the pan-roasted scottish salmon that he enjoyed and even ate his veggies - broccolini - yum! We probably wouldn't have picked this restaurant on our own because we aren't big meat eaters. As with a couple of other reviewers, we found this restaurant after unsuccessfully trying to make reservations late afternoon on a Saturday at two other restaurants. The food was very good, had steak and lobster. Steak was prepared as I ordered it. I don't feel that the prices were out of line for what we ordered. Our server had an accent that made it a little difficult to understand, but he was attentive nonetheless. We were lucky enough to dine on the patio for New Years Eve! Although technically outside, they have made it so cozy with sleek curtains, heat lamps, and socially distant tables. Our server Austin was amazing! So knowledgeable and accommodating, offering suggestions and recommendations that didn't disappoint. The jazz music was on point and both the owner and executive chef stopped at the table to share the colorful history of the building along with their personal connection to the menu. For starters, we went with the butternut squash-pear bisque and wedge salad. Both were delicious! The ingredients were so fresh but the dressing and carne seca made the salad a standout.  For the main course, we went with the filet in the Chef's chili rub and New York Strip with the three peppercorn rub. Highly recommend getting the sauce flight so you can try them all, but the Guajillo Bearnaise and Au Piovre were our favorites. As for the sides, I would come back for these alone...the whipped potatoes and haricot verts were the perfect compliment to our meal.  For dessert, we ended with eclairs -- an off menu item the pastry chef introduced that day. They came with 3 flavors - chocolate hazelnut and raspberry, banana and butterscotch, and a citrus earl grey. They were incredible! We will definitely be back can't wait to try the Chile En Nogada on our next visit! (Fun Fact: that is the dish that Chef Ruiz beat Bobby Flay!!!) Whether for date night or a business meeting, we can't recommend Palace Prime enough, it is a five star experience all around!!! read more

We just had a great dinner at Palace prime. The braised short ribs with polenta was excellent as was the pork chop. We didn't love the green chili mac and cheese, but everything else was really good and the presentation of everything was beautiful. We ordered two desserts, the bread pudding and the pavlova and both for great but I found the Pavlova to be very refreshing, tart and sweet. A celebratory meal at Palace Prime, absolutely delicious. I know they're about to do some remodeling, but we loved the simple, relatively quiet atmosphere. Our big family group tried a lot of dishes, and were awed by most. The one I'd skip next time is the big seafood tower, better off ordering the things you love from it separately. Honestly some of the best, freshest oysters and plumpest, most delicious shrimp ever. The tuna tartare was great too. What fell flat was the cold lobster tail, which wasn't all that flavorful, and the crab legs, which were small and a pain to open. Tasty, though. They really go all out on quality and it shines. Beautiful beef -- our one burger eater was super happy, as was the filet mignon diner. The pasta with braised beef was beyond good. Ribs were great, too. And I can't say enough about the quality of the desserts. We had every one, and ate every last crumb. A really good pastry chef who doesn't rely on too much chocolate but is creative with flavors -- fantastic! Next trip to Santa Fe, I'll be back with the whole family again! read more

The staff at Palace Prime totally saved us last night. Our New Year's Eve dinner reservations got messed up at another place and we were left scrambling. They did not have any seating available (their outdoor patio is adorable btw) but they did allow us to place a to go order. We ordered the steak tartare, the salmon, the burger with fries, and a side of mushrooms. Everything was delicious! The salmon was PERFECT! Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and the asparagus it was paired with complimented it very well. If you like mushrooms, make sure you try their mushrooms. They are some of the best mushrooms I've ever had! The sommelier helped us pick out a wine that would go well with both of our dishes (which I feel was a daunting task given that we had such a wide variety of food). He totally crushed it. He was so knowledgeable and we told him our price point and he came in way under. He recommended this wine from a little winery from Santa Barbara and told us the story behind the wine (everyone enjoys a nice story, right?). They also thew in some eclairs for dessert! Originally my husband and I were trying to go to Burger Stand on a Saturday night but it was closed. It was already 10pm and most restaurants were closed and we happened to stumble upon this place which was open. We waited by the host check in entrance for a few minutes and no one there. We waited patiently and even made eye contact with a female server who stared at us for a good minute before proceeding to check in with a table and serve him. Again we kept waiting until a male server finally came to us and asked if we had a reservation. We told him no, but asked if it was possible to walk in? He said we could and told us the kitchen closed at 1030pm (it was already 1020pm when they finally acknowledged us). He said he needed to talk to the kitchen to see if they could serve us. He handed us a menu and left to ask. Eventually he came back and said we could as long as we ordered now and we ordered a pork chop to share and some Parmesan fries immediately. He left to head back to the kitchen. Eventually the female waitress who we made eye contact with earlier came to us and apologized for ignoring us and mentioned that she thought we were leaving and had already been helped. Me and my husband were very skeptical for her reasoning and I know we shouldn't bring race to the table, but we were the only pair or Asians there and there was very few guests all of them being the same color if you know what I mean and we just felt there was no way she could have not known we weren't helped, but we honestly did feel very judged and out of place being there. But an apology is an apology so we accepted it and didn't argue. She brought our waters and our male server told her that he had already helped us. She asked if he wanted to keep us, and he said he was heading out soon, so she could keep us. My husband and I felt a little uncomfortable with her due to our earlier interaction and would have much preferred the man, but we didn't complain. We also ordered a drink which was delicious. I can't remember what it was but the presentation was very beautiful. Our food came and they were nice enough to split our food to share without us even asking. The pork chop was nice and juicy, the vegetables had so much flavor, and they gave us two portion of the green chili Mac and cheese instead of one to share which was very nice of them and which had so much flavor and depth to it. The Parmesan fries were also delicious and had a nice crispy to it, but it was an additional $10 to add a side of fries. Overall despite the service we both really did enjoy the food and the atmosphere was beautiful.
