Pepperoni and sweet peppers (green peppers)
    Christine B.

We were looking for a bite to eat on our way home for Canyon Lake and this showed up on Yelp. It's a cute local place and we had the nicest waitress. We had a pepperoni and sweet pepper pizza. (Another word for green peppers.) The only issue was that the crust was very hard and dry. The rest of the ingredients were good, especially the pepperoni - but that crust was an unfortunate distraction. We were starving so we powered through that pizza anyway...

Don't skip out on this hidden gem Paladino's is tucked away in the heart of Apache Junction serving up some amazing Chicago style Italian eats. From pasta to pizza, subs, salads and more. The dishes are family style and definitely shareable. Excellent customer service and a great casual vibe. I love the thin style pizza with a crunchy crust and generous toppings and sauce just right. The Caprese pizza was a hit. I loved the salad! It's giving Olive Garden vibes but way better quality and freshness. On to the pasta dishes I was so caught up in the fettuccine and Oh My goodness that vodka pasta dishes was But then I spotted the star of the show, Chicken Marsala. That's one of my all time favorites. If it's made right. And this, this was incredible. The perfect pasta texture, sauce was perfect in flavor and coated the pasta well. I love the generous portobello mushrooms with pieces of white meat chicken breast. This is one hearty, comfort dish I can't wait to come back for.

The place is very casual like most pizza places. Waitress was very nice and attentive. In all my years living in Chicago I never had a breaded steak sandwich. Next week I'm going to Chicago and was going to use one of my lunch spots to try Ricobenes for the very first time. Then my sister suggested I try Paladinos because it was just as good. While I can't compare the two never having been to Rico's I can tell you that the sandwich here was really good. Really good. The steak was tender and the breading crunchy. The sauce and cheese were very good as well. Add both hot and sweet peppers to elevate the sandwich to the next level. If it wasn't a 20 mile drive I'd probably eat here at least once a week. I can't speak to anything else on the menu but if it's as good as the sandwich I'm all in.

Lots of staff, good service, bar seating and full bar. Pizza was good, many too crunchy as our preference is a more chewy dough. Pepperoni, sausage and Italian beef made up the meat lovers pizza. Great sausage flavor, crispy pepperoni. We didn't like how you can't add toppings to their signature pizza. We wanted roasted red peppers but they don't do that. You need to order topping individually...what? Zucchini sticks weren't that good as the inside was nuclear hot and slimy textured. I'm sure these were frozen not fresh made. Either way, very good. The Italian beef and meatball sandwiches are killer on the famous Toscano bread.

    Two pieces. One sausage each.

Food is great. Love their sausage pizza. Caution: Do not order double Sausage. You won't get double sausage but you will pay for it. Three strikes. This is the third pizza we've ordered double and nope. Here's a picture. Exactly one piece of sausage on every piece.

Yelpers, Called ahead to enjoy a cheese and sausage large pizza. Friday afternoon just before 4pm. Just a couple of open tables. Pizza takes about 30 minutes to prepare and cook to enjoy. Parking lot off Apache Trail. Delicious pizza!!

Service is good. Food is better than the national chains, it's the best pizza I've had in Apache Junction.

We brought my nephew here for his 32nd birthday, and from the moment we walked in, the ambiance hit the right note--it's a newer building, but they've captured a wonderfully cool, rustic old-fashioned vibe. The service was incredible right off the bat. We were greeted with warm smiles, and our server (a lovely lady with pink hair whose name I missed!) was absolute gold. She made my nephew's birthday so special by surprising him with bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers and a brownie. The food was phenomenal. My nephew got the sample plate loaded with brisket, pork, sausage, and more. I went for the double brisket burger--that thing was a giant, flavor-packed beast! My nephew loved the cornbread with real corn and called the homemade baked beans "fire." We also tried all of their homemade signature barbecue sauces, and every single one was delicious. The green chili mac and cheese was a bit too mild and simple for my personal taste, but still totally decent. Overall? Fantastic flavor, unbeatable hospitality, and great atmosphere. If you haven't checked out this new spot yet, go give them some love!

Simple surroundings, but excellent food. This is one of those places, in my opinion. Ordered the Greek salad w/ beef kabob. They even asked how I wanted the meat prepared. I went for rare, and it was rare. Very fresh greens, soft and warm pita bread. Dressing on the side, which I like, because Greek dressing can sometimes be a little acidic. This was not. Smooth, with light acidity. Very tasty. The meat (see picture) was loaded on and delicious. Charred nicely on the outside, rare inside. Presented very well. Baklava for desert. What can I say - I've never really had bad Baklava. Very buttery, honey, pistachios. I'm giving five stars, because I didn't expect this to be so tasty. Expected good. Nothing fancy as far as dining, but very clean. But I don't order the tables and chairs - I order the meal, and that's what I eat. You order at the counter and they serve. The young lady was very friendly - perhaps limited English, but no one was rude. She served my food, and I forgot to grab utensils. She went back to get them w/ no attitude. I saw the cook (maybe the owner/mgr?) serve a couple and very friendly. I saw some bad reviews regarding service, so just wanted to explain that didn't happen to me. Anyway, I will go back here. Hopefully, will be as good as the salad.

I stopped here on my way out to golf in Gold Canyon for a quick sandwich. It was around 65 degrees outside but inside the store was even colder...I was shivering the whole time there...they must not have any heater. After reviewing the menu quickly (about 15 seconds), when I approached the cashier he asked 'Are you ready now?'. I found this pretty insulting as I was looking at the menu briefly with nobody behind me inline. What happened to 'How may I serve you today?' or at least a semi-friendly greeting? I ordered a Torpedo sub and got a water cup as they had a Pepsi machine (I much prefer Coke products) and no fresh-brewed Iced Tea (only Brisk out of the Pepsi machine). The sub came out quickly. I forgot to take a picture but it looked like a bread-only sandwich with a few lettuce strips hanging out. You could not see the meat or cheese without lifting off the bun. I'd say they are quite frugal with the meat, cheese and vegetables. However, the sandwich bread was excellent and the sub had good taste. Overall, the experiences was average to slightly sub-par. The place wasn't crowded, but did have plenty of people inside either waiting for orders or eating at some of the handful of tables. I looked at the big menu display screens and then placed my order at the counter with the nice woman who works there. I had the brisket plate with chili and corn bread as my sides. The brisket (some fatty, some lean so I could try their idea of both) was cooked well and had a good smoke ring. The smoke flavor wasn't as strong as I prefer, but different people have different ideas and less is more when you're cooking for a crowd, so I respect that. Their barbecue sauce (the red one -- I don't put yellow sauce on brisket -- had a good flavor that complemented the brisket's flavor rather than overpowering it.) As for the sides, the chili was OK, but not something that I would order again. I like chili and was curious. Curiosity satisfied. The corn bread was moist and that middle-of-the-road between sweet and savory that is common in much of Texas (at least the parts I have visited). I like mine a little more sweet, but, like the brisket, I am a believer in getting the texture right first. Be aware if you are a fan of the sweet corn breads.

Even through COVID I made sure to go there once a week (spending $70-$80 on average as I have 5 kids) to make sure Joe was not going to become a victim of the intentional destruction of our economy. When he sold the place I was sad because I was going to miss our regular interactions and simple banter. It was like losing a family member. At first the new owners did their best to carry on the traditions and flavors that Joe had created but slowly it had been going down hill. I always rooted for the underdog and let a lot of issues pass, like being out of this, that or another thing, as I truly wanted them to succeed in Joe's footprints. But after last night I can no longer give them my money to serve the slop that I received for $70 including tip. My order consisted of two #7 (beef sandwich) one had fries and one was just the sandwich, two #1 (gyros) with fries and a #10 Chicago Dog without fries for which the order taker asked if I wanted everything on it. To which I replied it is not a Chicago Dog if it doesn't have everything on it. What I got for my $70 was the most disgusting excuse for a hot dog (definitely not a Vienna Beef hot dog...it was dark brown and about 3/8" in diameter). On the first bite I almost spit it out. The only way I could force it down was the condiments on it and I was starving. The beef sandwiches looked almost fake (i did not have one) and again definitely not Vienna beef. And the gyro was not up to snuff. It had a single slice of tomato, a little bit of onion and a runny, tastless tatziki sauce that was sad. The only thing that was good was the gyro meat and the pita. So again...that is/was the last time I will be eating there. RIP Chicgo #1. We had a good run together but it is time to find a new gyro place or open my own.
