Came here to celebrate friendship and love with a few other couples and we left with smiles and warmed bellies from the delicious food and wonderful experience we had. The location doesn't require you dress up, but with the accommodating our late reservation of 9:00pm, we came dressed to the 10s and even got to pull out our diamonds. Candlelit and romantic, bud still family friendly. I loved it here and plan to return with my family. I've been trying to come here for a long time, but it's not worked out. As we are now in Phase 1 of the time of Covid, some friends wanted to meet up for the first time since things have reopened, and they have a lovely patio where we decided to meet. Well, then the bottom fell out of the sky, so we were grateful to get a table for our group as they are solely operating with reservations now. All the employees wore masks, and there are sanitation stations through the service areas. The Godfather is a must have cocktail. It was a delicious way to kick off our gathering. Not for the weak, the whiskey packs a punch! Several other cocktails were ordered by my friends, and they all had their own flare to them. We also split a bottle of a delicious wine. Not being too hungry, I just ordered the Caprese salad. It was more than expected! Thinly sliced purple onions, an array of petite tomatoes, pearl mozzarella, and a drenching of the most delicious balsamic reduction that left me wanting a straw so as not to waste it! The manager, Jonathan, and our server, Destiny, took amazing care of us, and really provided a nice outing that made us forget for a little while that we have been at home for over two months... I look forward to returning and enjoying the lovely patio. Went try Palermo's for the first time yesterday evening. After hearing mixed reviews, I didn't know what to expect and was hoping for the best. But, the best was not the outcome unfortunately. Starting off, the booth that we were seated at had a giant rip in the leather and our menus were dirty. We also noticed that the ceiling vents all appeared to be dirty. As our food started to arrived, we first got the complimentary table bread. That was delicious. Then for our mains, I got the chicken nudo and my friend got the stuffed shells. The chicken nudo was served with ratatouille that day and I can't really comment on it since I'm not a fan of ratatouille in general, but I did try a bite and I founded that the skin of the eggplant was hard. The main part of my dish, the chicken, was very tough. The noodles also had way too much garlic. It was a very light sauce which I did appreciate but I would only get this if you love a lot and I mean a lot of garlic. I've drove by this spot in the Bocage area a million times but have never tried it. Usually we choose Gino's when craving Italian. After looking it up on yelp, The osso bucco is what convinced me to give it a shot, It did not disappoint, fall apart tender and rich in flavor with a light sauce as to let the meat shine. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious! The artichoke appetizer with shrimp and crabmeat is a must, served with a lemon caper sauce and loaded with crabmeat! The linguine pasta my girl friend had with her veal parmigiana was cooked al dente perfect and the cheese was rich and delicious. The sauce wasn't the traditional heavy red sauce Im use to in south Lousiana, but still very tasty. Our sever (Brennan) was knowledgeable and charismatic, we will be back! read more

Great little place located on Jefferson Hwy in the heart of Baton Rouge. I had heard a lot of really great reviews of Palermo and finally ventured there to see what everyone was talking about. The evening we ate there was a rainy evening during the pandemic, and it was still full at (the allowed) 25% capacity. We started off the evening with a round of cocktails and appetizers including the Caprese salad, Italian Sausage Napolean, and Artichoke Trapani. All were exceptional, had a great mixture of flavors, and everything were incredibly fresh. I skipped dinner, but a member of our party ordered the Osso Bucco pizza and it looked really good! The only con for Palermo I can point toward was their lack of a happy hour. I am a big fan of specials around the city so I can try different housemade cocktail recipes or tapas and they did no offer any at Palermo; however, it is important to note that I visited during the pandemic Phase 1, so this may not be the norm. Overall I would recommend stopping in and enjoying a Bourbon Caprese and the Italian Sausage Napolean! And the homemade lemoncello was very, very good as well! read more

We were looking for good pizza place like the one we went to at Rome. We found Palermo, looked cozy, parking lot is small and shared with other stores. Just opened for lunch and soon came other customers. We ordered pasta and pizza, but it came with seasoned bread and salad which were good on its own. Cheese and pepper flakes as well as olive oil were good and different mixes than what we were used to. The salad was fresh with bamboo and olives, very fresh. Shrimp pasta had slightly spicy flavor with pepper flakes, but tasted much like the appetizer bread. Pasta sauce was good to dip the seasoned bread as well. The angel hair pasta was delicious but there was not much in terms of volume. Still, shrimp was large and there were plenty. The Palermo pizza was heavy in tomato sauce with thin hard crust. It was good but not like the pizza we had in Rome. My opinion is that this place is good Americanized Italian. read more

Service 8 out of 10, food 6 out of 10, alcohol 7 out of 10, ambiance 6 out of 10. The whole place is decorated and themed like some kind of cheesy Italian restaurant. And not cheesy in the good tasty kind of way, cheesy and the cliche cultural appropriation kind of way. They had black and white tiny tiles on the floor and all the waiters wore classic red blazers. A real attraction for elderly folks who think Italian food is a novelty. They started us off with fresh bread covered in an olive oil, spice, and hard cheese mix. It was grossly over salted for my taste. The bread, if it had not been fresh, I would not have eaten it. It felt like it was cheap and more air than bread. Very little substance to it. My wife and I ordered drinks. The manager seemed to have a good bit of knowledge about wines. He recommended a wine for my wife and she enjoyed it. I had a mixed drink called Sicilian Breeze. It supposedly had basil in it but it did not come through and was disappointing, especially for a self proclaimed Italian restaurant. They had a lot of classic Italian restaurant dishes, but I was starting to feel like it was a superficial emulation. We came for the tiramisu, but I saw they had a caprese and I love caprese salad. My favorite feature of a caprese is the basil, but the cohesiveness between all the components make it truly wonderful. The caprese here is mediocre in my opinion for several reasons. First, the portion was offensive for $15. It was also made with cherry/grape tomatoes. Those two aspects bothered me since it was plated as a salad vs appetizer. I am open to my expectations being challenged, but this to me felt more like pushing profit margins. The basil was weak. Maybe it was old and used in an inadequate proportion. Either way it was underwhelming. The balsamic reduction was tasty and I ordered the salad without red onions because I wanted a caprese and wanted to avoid digestive issues. The mozzarella was in balls with the theme of small bites. It felt like the salad was assembled from a bunch of boxes. Like they bought mozzarella and grape tomatoes at Costco, used month old basil and simply assembled it. I can understand this from a logistics perspective, but at the price point of $15 for a side salad sized portion I felt shorted. This is an expensive restaurant with entrees generally between $25-$40. They aren't expensive because the food is good, they are expensive because they are next to bocage and they want to exclude people. We ordered a margarita pizza on the rice crust and tiramisu next. I didn't expect the crust to be great even though I've personally made many gluten free crusts that were indistinguishable from wheat. That just what you expect with restaurants since they don't have to care. I was impressed that they were making an effort and I won't review the crust. I will review the pizza, however. Calling the margarita pizza is being generous. Once again, grape tomatoes. The pizza was underwhelming. This was, however, the first time during the meal I tasted basil. So that was nice. It tasted old. The cheese was probably the same as the caprese. The tiramisu was flavorful and the lady fingers were not soggy. They were light and fluffy. The cream was nice and there was a strawberry on top that actually was quite sweet, which is important for a dessert. Otherwise, it's garnish and wasted. The major drawback of the tiramisu was the chunks of partially ground coffee. This was an unrefined part of the dish and took away from the experience. The texture was not appealing. Also, noticing that we were the youngest patrons in the restaurant by decades it seems like this restaurant is appealing to its base not because it serves good food, but because it has sentimental value. And likely also because it excludes poor people in a superficially posh part of town. Our server from Chalmette was fantastic. I have eaten in Italian restaurants, cafes, and trattorias in Italy and in other countries and I have eaten with Italian Americans at family dinners. I have also sought out recipes and tried cooking myself. I will not be returning to this restaurant to eat, unless maybe a good friend wants to have a birthday there or something. To conclude in a few short statements, Palermo had good, but not amazing service, cheesy ambiance like a second rate Epcot display, lazy, overpriced food, and uninspired. read more

I eat lunch at Palermo with a small group every other month. The whole group is happy when I tell them that's where we're going that week. The big favorite is the Artichokes Trapani. Beautiful presentation and delicious. My personal favorite is the Chicken Saltimboca. Even the pizza is great and much like it is served in Rome. The wait staff is really good and Jonathan, the maitre d', is very accommondating. The whole experience is always A+++. read more

My mom ordered the Veal Marsala with a Caesar salad. They brought out some bread which was actually pretty good. I did find it odd that they didn't put a knife or cut it. The Caesar salad came out I took a bite and it tasted like fish . They use anchovies to make their dressing ! It was really really bad . So we both sent the salads back and got the house salad which was actually pretty good. Then our entrees come out mine looked pretty tasty. After I took a bite and gave my mom a shrimp for some of her veal I realized it had no taste at all. The pasta was tasteless. I couldn't eat anymore it was really gross. My moms veal had no taste at all. We both left hungry they took my moms off the bill. My mom is actually getting us some McDonald's now yes that's how bad it was. I got the opportunity to try this little place out with a 225 Magazine coupon and I'm so glad I did. I got one of their pizzas (I'm a sucker for a good pizza) and it blew my mind. The wine selection was pretty good. The atmosphere gives a perfect small Italian town feel. I'll definitely be coming back once I have a little more than a college student budget. read more

Had lunch here today. It's nice inside and we were greeted with a big friendly smile from the hostess and we had a great waitress but those were the only good things about this place ! We both started with a Caesar salad and that's where this FOOD HORROR and TORTURING OF OUR TASTEBUDS BEGAN ! When we both tasted our salads our mouths were filled the nastiest grossest strong old fish taste. We both almost lost our lunch ( gag ) We had to send our salads back uneaten. Then the entrees come out I ordered Veal masala over Angel hair pasta it was the blandest meal I've ever tasted it was worse than a pack of 10 cent romain noodles without the flavor packet. The Veal was unseasoned and water logged tasting. The only sauce was dirty brown water. So I had to send that back as well. My friends Shrimp mediterranean in cream sauce was also bland and only had 3 over grilled tasteless shrimp with a texture of rubber. She didn't send her entree back but it was inedible so she just left it on the table.. ended up pulling thru a McDonald's and grabbing a hamburger for lunch. Palermo Ristorante is a cute little restaurant of only about 20 tables or so and is quintessential modern Italian cuisine. The menu was simple with about 30 selections to choose from including Antipasti and Salad. We chose the nightly special, a bone-in stuffed veal chop with creamy risotto ($52); and a selection from the regular menu-- Chicken Parmesan ($23). The wine menu was adequate though there were less than 10 selections available by the glass. We partook of the Vitticio Chianti and a Corvina Red Blend. Specialty cocktails are also available. Two words... GARLIC. BREAD. An accompaniment slathered with herbs and garlic, was hot, toasted and most importantly, delicious! Michael, our server, brought us two servings of it and The Babes ate most of it. After about 20 minutes, our dinner was presented on hot plates and of impressive size. The Chicken Parmesan was tender though sweeter than how I like it, probably because of the in-house sauce that it is prepared with. So The Babes and I switched, he liked mine better anyways. The veal chop was stuffed with smoked gouda and pancetta which was a nice way to split the thickness of the chop. The risotto was perfectly cooked, creamy and tasty. We didn't have time for dessert, though we were offered it. Prices at Palermo are higher than normal, but expected of the atmosphere/ambiance. The food was good, but some items were a bit pricey. We might return for wine and a pizza to share, but if you're looking for a hearty Italian feast, it will cost you at Palermo. read more

I live very close to this restaurant and see it almost every day, so I was very eager to try it when my girlfriend suggested that we try something outside of our "regular" Italian restaurants in BR, and we both couldn't have been more disappointed with the terrible experience. The very first thing that our waitress told us was that they were short staffed so the service would probably be slow, and she was right. The restaurant had about 4 front-of-house workers which I found odd for a Saturday night, but it made sense when they started giving us our food. I'm assuming that this restaurant's management's #1 priority, by far, is cost saving and profit, not a quality experience for the customer. Everything tasted like they bought the absolute cheapest ingredients possible. Our Caprese salad was made with mealy heirloom tomatoes that looked and tasted like they were bought next door at Calvin's, and the portion was small. My pasta was extremely pedestrian and tasted like hamburger helper, while my girlfriend's chicken parm consisted of an unseasoned, unbreaded chicken breast covered in bland cheese and sauce. The bread and tiramisu were both ok, but I don't eat at restaurants for bread and dessert. And I honestly probably wouldn't have even written this review if it weren't for the waitress telling us that their drink machine was broken (were we at an Italian restaurant or McDonald's?) and asking my girlfriend if she minded bottled drinks, then surprising me with $4.50 per soft drink on my bill. I don't mind paying a premium for good food which I do very regularly, but I really don't like feeling like I'm getting screwed, and the entire experience from top to bottom made me feel like I was getting screwed out of $100. There are way too many delicious Italian restaurants in Baton Rouge to waste your money here. Gino's, Nino's, Degulio Brothers, even places like La Contea and Monjuni's are far superior to Palermo at a similar price point. Their food is cheap and bland, they're very understaffed which leads to poor service even if the waitstaff tries to be nice, and it's extremely overpriced for food that I can cook better at home. My husband and I went here tonight. It was okay. Our waiter was strange- wouldn't tell us his name and when I asked what the specials were he responded that he was going to get our drinks and would tell us the specials later. (They weren't busy) the waiter also spilled wine all over the table and then never picked up the wine soaked napkins. He also brought me back the same glass he spilled wine on. So the bottom was still soaked and dropped wine on my clothes when I went to pick it up. The appetizers were very good. Our main courses were just okay. I got the fish special and it was pretty bland. My wine was excellent. We got the "house made" tiramisu for dessert and it might have been the worst tiramisu I've ever had. It was soaked to the point that liquid was coming out of the lady fingers. It almost tasted like someone spilled a cup of water into it. We ordered the Italian sausage napolean and the rigatoni bolognese. They also threw in bread. To note the bread was pretty delicious. The Italian sausage napolean's fried eggplant was also good.
