After reading the reviews, I was excited to try this place out. Let me first say that I would have rated this place 1 star, but the service was great and the waitress was really polite. Upon walking in, the decor was nice with paintings hanging on the walls. I found it a little strange that you could see where they store their gelato (right in the front). As I was seated I noticed that all of the silverware (all tables) was sitting on the table instead of cloth napkins or on the plate. That's a pet peeve of mine because you don't know how clean the tables are. The waitress brought me bread and their homemade bruschetta/sun-dried tomato dipping sauce. The bread was warm, crispy and delicious! Let's not even talk about the sauce...it was Incredible! WOW! I ordered Rib Eye Steak sandwich from the lunch menu. A side of 'roasted' potatoes was included. 5 minutes later my food was ready. I was excited; it looked great. Nice presentation of the potatoes with its garnishings. I proceeded with the potatoes; first bite...cold. Maybe it was that only piece...I had a few more and they were all cold. I told the waitress and she said they'd have another plate out for me. The sandwich: caramelized onions, mushrooms, marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese on a sourdough roll. The cheese was in a sliced cheese, which I found surprising. I took a bite and immediately and loads of the 'marinara' spilled out. The meat was really Chewy and lacked taste. The marinara was the worst thing about this sandwich; in fact, this was what probably killed the sandwich. It tasted like a hybrid of the bruschetta sauce and Italian salad dressing. Seriously, disgusting. I only ate about 1/4 of the sandwich before I gave up. When the potatoes arrived, they were pleasantly warm. However, that's as good as it got...they were over-salted and DRENCHED in oil...wasn't really roasted. I asked for my check and the waitress asked me a couple of times if I wanted a box and I said "No thanks." My total cost: $8.60 Honestly, this was by far the worst Italian food I've eaten. This small neighborhood restaurant has some of the best hot dishes around. The chef does well to prepare an item however you wish! Their staff is attentive and works hard, with a smile. Ehhh.. the place is small and in a gas station parking lot. Take out pizza is good and priced right but food and service is hit or miss. Went last night for hubby's birthday. We were seated and checking out the menu. About five minutes later a waitress walks up and says "what can I get you!" Ya, thats it. No, "hi my name is....I will be taking care of you tonight. Any questions on the menu, can I start you off with an appetizer or what drink can I bring you." NONE of that. She was just abrupt and didn't make me feel welcome. I ordered gorgonzola pasta and asked for extra gorgonzola. Food comes and gorgonzola is a sharp, tangy, pungent and strong cheese. You should taste it in your food. I didn't taste it at All. I asked my daughter to try it and she doesn't like gorgonzola. She said pasta was ok but she didn't taste cheese either. I asked for a side of gorgonzola. Once I added that to my dish then it tasted like the good aged cheese I like. Obviously I offended the chef because when we got our bill I noticed a charge of 2.50. I asked the waitress what that was for. She said "oh ya the chef made me charge you for the extra gorgonzola. I was surprised too!" WOW! WTH? If he had prepared a gorgonzola pasta dish with enough flavor I wouldn't have had to ask for more. To be charged for it and not even told until I noticed it is absolutely ridiculous. I find the food there bland. After this experience I wont be back. I have plenty of options for Italian. In fact La Strada in Napa/American Canyon is amazing. The service is always top notch and food fantastic. I have never had a bad meal there. From now on I will drive a little further to get far superior service AND better food. We had the eggplant appetizer it was excellent! The bread and dipping sauce were excellent My wife's Sambooco ? chicken with sauce was excellent. My angel hair pasta with meatballs, the sauce was very good but the MEATBALLS WERE PREVIOUSLY FROZEN COSTCO OR SMART AND FINAL . I could tell immediately when I bit into them they had that spongy cheap crappy taste. If I go back I will get something other than the meatballs. Our first time trying this as seasoned Italian food lovers, (hubby is Italian) and we loved it! He got the clam and linguini dish in red sauce, and I got the chicken and rigatoni with gorgonzola cheese dish. WE LOVED both dishes. While we waited awhile for our freshly made food, our salads and bread kept us busy. The main dishes came out piping hot and delicious! We ended with tiaramisu, which I think is the best I have ever had. (And I have had alot of tiaramisu over the years. We had just moved to the area and this was very close to our home. It's in a small strip mall next to a Subway. Once you get inside, it charming, with the kitchen and chef visible. There's a small bar. The appetizer bread with the amazing eggplant, sun-dried tomato concotion is brought out right away. Just that is such a great start, we could eat it all day! Salads are perfect every time, we've visited three times already. I've had the Saltimbocca, the Putanesca, and the Gorgonzola. All very tasty. There are so many things I enjoy about this place. The bread is always warm, they have the best pesto dip, and I am always happy with every entree and appetizer I eat there. I came to Palermos on Tuesday Feb 2,2016 for lunch. I was the only customer in the restaurant. I was alone and thus the waiter took my single lunch order. After I placed my lunch order two white men came and order two sandwiches/lunches. They promptly received their sandwiches and continued to wait. As a long time customer of Palermos I was extremely disappointed by the waiters lack of professional or even appropriate customer service. When I Inquired as to how it was easier to prepare two lunches faster than the single lunch I ordered I received as a response from the very rude waiter "they were rushing me so whatever". I now do not recommend Palermos as I once did. I will never patronize this establishment again. read more

We tried to get some dinner last night but ended up leaving the restaurant hungry. We were there for over an hour and a half and the chef had not even started cooking our meal. The two wait staff was terrible and cam across as we were offending them with our presence. After the first 20 minutes of no service, my husband asked if we could get some service and the waiter rolled his eyes. The young lady never gave us a moments notice and I believe that we were in her section. When we finally said that we were leaving, the chef cam over to apologize and said that they were overwhelmed. We said that we understood but that the wait staff were rude and never made an effort to wait on us. I am never going back and will let everyone know that this is a horrible place to dine. read more

Been going to Palermos since the day they opened! The food is excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The amount of food you get for the price is a bargain. The sundries pesto dipping sauce with complementary bread is fabulous. Soup or salad with entree and the soup is homemade and always 2 choices! A great wine list to boot. This is another of those stealth restaurants that you don't find unless you're looking for it. It is hidden in a remote strip mall off highway 780 on the edge of Benicia, but it is worth the search. I've eaten here about a dozen times, and find myself needing to go back regularly. Everything I've tried is excellent, including the bread, soups, and desserts. Service has always been friendly and efficient. I consider it the best Italian restaurant in Benicia, even better than its brother restaurant downtown. read more

Palermos has darn good food period. The excellent pasta carbonara is authentic. I've also enjoyed the Pizza Fruta with apple and pear slices and gargonzola. I don't understand how so many people had a bad experience here. I've come here with my boyfriend plenty of times since I moved to California in February. It's one of our go to places. The complimentary bread and spread is amazing. The salads are refreshing with tons of freshly cracked peppercorns. Nearly every dish I've tried is good. The chocolate soufflé is the perfect end to every meal. I've just discovered their seasonal pumpkin walnut cobbler recently and it is the best thing ever. I can't stand going to our local Olive Garden for pasta because it is always busy and there pasta isn't even that good. But you go to Palermo's and you get a more authentic Italian atmosphere and menu. For our first time, my husband and I went there not that hungry but wanted to try it. We ended up devouring the complimentary bread and sundried tomato tampenade, our soup, our meals, and two shared desserts. No, it wasn't because their portions were small but because it was THAT good. I cross my fingers that their featured soup when we go is French Onion because I just love it! This has become a regular place for us. The food is always good and the service is really great. We were particularly impressed when a waiter remember our children. He has been working every time we go there and is always wonderful. He takes care to try to find a table that suits us for the situation. When it was just adults, he tried to seat us where it was quiet for a romantic dinner. When there with children, he tried to seat us in a place that would be more manageable with children. It is evident that they are very considerate of their customers. Even when ordering out, the service received while waiting for the food was exception. Picked this restaurant at random because I wanted to take my boyfriend and my son out for Italian. Having just moved to Cordelia area from Napa Valley, I was feeling challenged to find restaurants that are not chains. On a whim, I found this restaurant on Yelp and the reviews seemed pretty good. When we pulled up to a gas station parking lot, I got a little bit fearful that we were going to have a terrible dinner with overcooked vegetables, overdone pasta and "foccacia" from Costco. This was not the case. We had a great dinner for three people for less than $50 and my son ate almost 100% of his small cheese pizza. He's 4, which is a feat to get him to sit and eat that much for dinner. Especially after filling himself with bread and their super amazing sun-dried tomato pesto. Needless to say, we would come back here over and over and I think that it's better than any of the Mom & Pop Italian places in Napa Valley. By far the best spaghetti I've had at a restaurant. The spaghetti is fresh and flavorful. When I'm in the mood for Italian I choose Palermos. It's located fairly close to my residence. The service is great. Every time I have been there I've had great service by the waiter who is usually the only one there besides the cook. I've only visited during lunch hours, so I'm not sure if there are a few more waters and waitresses. The gentleman I usually see is polite, quick, and on a personal note, he seems quite the workaholic. Lol It's location is in an odd spot, but like I said it's convenient. It's near a gas station near a bunch of other businesses so parking is hit or miss. The restaurant is always clean, presentable and I always thought it was small but turns out there's a whole other room towards the back. I highly recommend this fantastic Italian restaurant. I suggest it to all my friends and I even feel that this place deserves a 5 star rating. So next time you're considering Olive Garden or some other Italian restaurant, ditch it and try Palermos. It's authentic and a lot cleaner than Olive Garden, by the way. Oh, also to top it off they even have gelato which makes a great dessert. read more

I just got home from leaving after having only complimentary bread and water. My mother and I walked in and there was no host to greet us. They were maybe half full - not too busy. It still took 3 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us, and the only acknowledgement was eye contact. We asked to be seated outside. When we sat down, there was no smile, no "Your waiter is so-and-so and will be with you soon." Nothing. I immediately decided on the Napa salad w/chicken and an Italian soda. My mother decided and even had time to call her husband to see what he'd like. Still no one had come to ask our drink order. Another 5 minutes and we were brought bread and water. I asked for fresh bread plates and utensils. (They'd clearly been sitting out all day and were dusty from everything that happens in a strip mall.) I saw the expression of annoyance on his, and still he said nothing as he picked up the plates and utensils I'd already cleared. He came back out a few minutes later with clean plates and utensils. I smiled and thanked him. He avoided eye contact, said nothing and went back inside. My mother and I ate our bread, waiting for someone, anyone! to ask what we'd like to eat. Still no one came. I told her I was ready to go and that I'm pretty sure Mountain Mike's can make a salad. So we left and now here I am telling you my story of hunger. read more

We've been coming here for several years now and overall the food has been pretty good. The very few times we did have an issue with something, it was addressed right away and we were satisfied.
