This would have been a great experience were it not for the waitress being so unprofessional. If she'd apologized all would have been fine. Everyone has bad days or comes on too strong sometimes. The shakshouka was excellent though. I wish that I'd been more able to enjoy it, rather than leave feeling bad about myself.

My wife and I have been to the Mt. Lebanon location on 2 different occasions, and being a Pitt grad, I've had the obligatory Pamela's breakfast at the Oakland location a handful of times. I will say that, of the two, the Oakland location has much friendlier and accommodating service, but since my review is of the Mt. Lebanon location, I'll digress. On both of our trips to the Lebo Pamela's, which is less than a mile from our house, we had to wait over 15 minutes despite the fact that there were multiple open tables. The staff seemed to be in a complete state of disarray to such a degree that I'm fairly certain that none of them had ever been to a restaurant before, let alone worked at one. On both visits, once we finally got our table, our teenage waitress greeted us after 5 minutes and took our drink orders, and then promptly disappeared into the ether for another 10-15 minutes between each subsequent round of service. Since there had been so much hype about Pamela's crepe-style pancakes, I went with those on our first visit. Honestly...wtf??? Dry, thin, and flavorless with no real texture to speak of, they were a definite let down. Did Obama really fly one of the owners of this place down to the White House for these things? C'mon, was Harris Teeter out of Bisquick? On the second visit, I had an omelet, which was serviceable, but no better than one you'd find at Denny's. As for their "famous" lyonnaise potatoes, is it possible to be famous for being forgettable, because there's nothing particularly special about them...they're hash browns with little bits of onion in them...yippee. As for ambiance, the place feels like someone took "The Max" diner set from Saved by the Bell and set it up in their garage. It's not particularly warm or inviting, and is far louder than any restaurant should ever be. read more

I know it's probably to help keep costs down, but I don't usually carry much cash since most places now take debit or credit. read more

The service was quick and friendly both times, our coffee cups never stayed empty thanks to the free refills, and the food came out surprisingly fast despite how busy it was. It was populated mostly by either mouthy young couples on the verge of breaking up or solitary poker-faced diners who looked like regulars. I guess I fall into the latter category, but consider me sated. It wasn't a culinary masterwork, but hey, I must say the greasy food did the trick.
