Panama Jack was okay. Honestly I didn't give it 5 stars because this place is kid friendly. I had some friends that stayed at other resorts that got better food too. The service was good, but the drinks seemed a bit weak and watered down. At one point the water shut off and I couldn't shower or brush my teeth. Also the tours they have there are pretty pricey so I ended up going through the pink mall down the street. The staff is great, I just would prefer somewhere less family oriented. read more

The rooms are clean and the staff is wonderful. But, half of the restaurants were closed each time limiting the options. One day a 16 year old child stole a phone and the security did nothing, so take caution when leaving personal belongings. Children's pool was closed so all children were in main pool making it hard to relax when you're getting splashed. Great hotel but could be fabulous with a little more tweaks. Edit: so after staying at another hotel, all I can say the entire stay I wished I was back at Panama jacks, the things we thought were okay, were actually not the norm of Cancun. I took an all inclusive vacation a month prior to coming to Cancun, and that was a 4.5* hotel in Puerta Vallarta. That was my first upscale all inclusive, and I thought all of them were going to be as amazing. I was wrong. Grab Caribe definitely wasn't bad, but I didn't feel like I was at a 4* all inclusive resort. I had a junior suite and that room was just a large room with a mini fridge. There were no alcohol dispensers in the room, and the coffeemaker that was in the room was an 80's style machine that made terrible drip coffee. The rest of the room was comfortable enough, but it was lacking power outlets. And most of the outlets were 2-prong and not 3-prong, so I had only a couple of options where to plug in my laptop. No desk to work out, just a small round desk meant for eating room service, basically. The food at the hotel was mediocre. At my last hotel, I didn't want to leave the property because the food was so good, including an upscale sushi restaurant. Gran Caribe had a handful of restaurant options, none of which took reservations. None of the employees could explain why there are no reservations, and it meant everyone had to stand in line to put their name down and then wait 30 minutes to an hour to get a seat most of the time. I never had a meal that blew me away in the 10 days I was at the hotel. Service was pretty good, overall, as staff was very friendly and willing to help, even with a special request. I had planned to sit by the pool and relax, but the pool was anything but relaxing. This resort was overrun with families with screaming kids. I ended up spending quite a bit of time in my room to get some quiet. There was only one real option for a bar, in the lobby, and that closed at 12pm. There was a 24 hour food and drink option, but the food was pretty much hamburgers and terrible nachos every night, and half of the nights the self-serve alcohol bottles were missing. Again, the staff was the standout good thing about the property, and the location was great if you wanted nightlife. Pretty easy to skip the overpried nightlife when you have all you can drink at the hotel, though. If I came back to Cancun, I'd stay somewhere else. But for first time all inclusive vacationers, I'm sure they'd be happy enough with this spot. read more

(sunset restaurant) this restaurant is located by the smaller of the two pools. Dress code is not strict First off the restaurant is open leaving nature to wander in. There is no problem with that. The scenery is nice but on a hot day I could see how it would be an irritating situation for some who wouldn't like the elements of nature interfering with their dinning experience. (Rain, heat, cold, flies, and birds). Now for the food. (Appetizer) The Mexican Salad was fresh and crisp. The way mango and a bit of heat hit your tongue is refreshing. I'd give it a 8/10. (Main course) The pork loin was beautiful, moist and tender. The thinly sliced apples should be a new trend. The mash potatoes where nothing special really. I'd give it a 8/10 as well. (Dessert) unfortunately I don't remember the name something that started with an M. Anyways the strawberry was fresh and sweet. For the actual desert which seemed to be some sort of sponge cake and White jello on top was not that great. I expected a refresh desert that would of complimented the rest of the dinner. The taste was to separated to come together. Definitely eat the strawberry with this dish or it would not be good at all. I'd have to give it a 3/10 and would not order again. I had a chance to also taste the chocolate cake from some friends that we're sitting with me. The chocolate cake was delicious. I would of much rather had ordered that 10x over. In entirety the dinning experience was great. The servers respectful, well mannered always willing to bring you anything asked of them. Gran Caribe Real provided us a great first All-inclusive experience. Even though we flew in from Los Angeles at 6am and our checkin wasn't until 3pm, the staff still checked us in, got us a room, and gave us our all-inclusive wristbands right away. It was nice to have a room to nap in after the red eye flight. We got the Junior Gran suite with ocean view (room 2110) that included the liquor dispensers. Because we checked in so early we only got a room on the ground floor but the view was of the pool and the ocean far in the background. The room itself is nice and spacious. I know some hotels add "suite" to every one of their rooms (I'm looking at you Vegas) but this room had a separate sitting area with sofa and small side table with access to the outdoor patio and hammock. Nice modern LG flat screen TV with a mix of Spanish/Mexican TV and American networks. Big comfy king sized bed. Spacious restroom that has the sinks separated from the shower and toilet. The best parts of the room, the liquor dispenser (we paid extra for American domestic liquor) and the MVP air conditioning! The all-inclusive access was great for us first timers. It's awesome to just walk in to a restaurant and get seated, and order whatever and however much we want and only worry about tip at the end of the meal. Like, if you're still hungry after eating those fancy dinners with portions made for mice, you can walk over to the buffet and get a table there. ...Not that I did that. Dont forget you can ask for alcohol anywhere you are on the resort. And you can ask for multiple cocktails. That is beautiful. Overall, it was a great experience. I would consider this a strong 3.5 - 4 star resort and absolutely worth what you pay. Definitely not a five star resort. Upgrading upon check-in is a big help. You can hear all of the partying when you stay on the lower floors. The facilities need repair, but it is very clean...a big compliment from a clean freak. The staff is very nice, but you will have to carry yourself in a way that discourages solicitation from the activities and spa staff if you want to relax. Just returned from my third visit and as always I enjoyed it. Keep in mind that this is NOT a FIVE STAR RESORT and you will not be disappointed! My boyfriend and I were celebrating 2 years together, so where better to go than Mexico?! We researched quite a few resorts in the area before deciding on Gran Caribe and I'd say we chose well. We got a much better rate by booking online and had the upgrade to the Gran Junior Suite. I'm not sure if it would have been cheaper to book through an agent, but we saved a ton by booking directly online. Pros: Very friendly staff! We became quick friends with a bartender in the main lobby named Rosalio and he was awesome! After spending quite a bit of time in the sun, we would come in for mojitos and beer to watch soccer (which was always on, loved that), and every time we took the last sip of our drinks, he had a new one sent right over to us. Tip your bartenders and waitstaff!!! Even if it's just 20 pesos (a little over $1.00 USD), it's more than they would get from others who stay there and they are very appreciative of it. The whole facility is well-kept and clean. The food is really good for an all-inclusive resort. The buffet at Albatros (open breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and Il Pescatore (only open for dinner) were the best restaurants, although we never tried Sunset Grill. My immediate and extended family (20) spent 6 nights here in early Jan. It was fabulous. The staff had regular events for both adults and kids during day and evening. They kept things moving. There is a designated kids section which my 10 & 12 year old spent some time at. Lots of restaurants to choose from with very little wait at the non-buffets. The staff was perfecto and friendly. The entire place has filtered water and still use bottled water at restaurants. We went off property a few times and felt totally safe. That being said, the gift shop prices are totally reasonable so no reason to leave beyond a pharmacy. Great place that can be busy or relaxing, your choice. The only recommendation I have is less techno music during pool time, but it is Mexico. Also the evening entertainment in the bar area was tremendous. read more

The gentleman who checked us in (I think Alejandro) made things very smooth. Welcome drinks were a nice touch. I loved the gym, classes are offered. 24 hour buffet was super beneficial because most restaurants closed about 11. I tried all restaurants except the Italian due to time. All were exceptional! We have had the most wonderful week here. The restaurants are so good and the service impeccable. Luis in the Italian and steak house treated every guest as special. Pipolino in the Mexican was helpful and served us at the perfect pace. We rented a cabana today. Victor and Daniel kept the treats and drinks coming. Our room was always tidy and clean and everything we needed showed up promptly with smiling faces. These lovely people seemed to love serving us so it was easy to tip generously. This resort is fun and relaxing for couples and families. Don't pass up a deal when you find it. read more

The staff here are all nice I really enjoy my stay with my son. The grounds are very clean. They have a ton of food options. The 24 hour coffee shop is delicious. *i will note they would not let us check into the room early before 3 pm, we go there at 1:30 pm they claimed it was to clean the room and get it ready, however when walking the grounds the rooms we were staying in were vacant. They do let you use the facility which is very nice, but stating you are cleaning the and the first thing I do when I get into the room and inspect everything I find an open bag of peanuts and my son is allergic to peanuts. They also asked at the front desk if we had any allergies so what they do with those notes I'm not sure. I still have this location a 5 Star because their staff is excellent and we all make mistakes. He and his staff are amazing as we had a special party for my son's birthday due to him, Sergio, Manuel, and Lilliana. Muchas Gracias!! We had great service at all of the restaurants, pool and beach. A shout out to Norma!! She's awesome!! Ans always has a smile on her face. Very kind and friendly staff. The pottery by the pool was fantastic. It is not included, but the prices are so cheap and the pottery is returned within hours (or the next day if you do it at close). Ask for Esteban and Salatiel as they are truly talented and we loved this activity! The kids played pool volleyball which was fun to watch, and to play. Overall, this is a very good Resort. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I will say that our room was near an area where there was quite a bit of construction taking place, and we found that to be kind of distracting when we wanted to rest during the day. The drinks here were good. I would say they are watered down, but that is probably to be expected at an all-inclusive resort. We really had no complaints regarding the food. I think our favorite food was the Italian restaurant. And the Ventanas restaurant was always very good for breakfast each morning. I do wish they had a slightly larger pool. And The Nightlife is that of a resort that is family friendly. It's great if you have kids, my husband and I were there for our anniversary and we may go with a different Resort in the future that's more tailored to adults. WE HAD MONEY STOLEN FROM OUR ROOM!!! Cons: Money stolen from our room! Filed a report with the police and with Matias K. (General manager) and an investigation was conducted but got nothing in return, even though we had our wedding here that week. The beach has a lot of seaweed, and the waves were pretty rough. We stayed in one of the most expensive rooms!! And everyday we were woken up to construction. There was also construction in the lobby. Small pool compared to other resort pools and it gets very crowded, get there by 9am to claim a chair under the umbrella or else you'll be suffering under the sun. It took them 1 hour to check us in even though we had arrived after check in time, mind you they had construction in the lobby and they did not have AC!!!! My only question was, "why is there construction in August? Couldn't they do this in the off peak season?" Pros: Our wedding was amazing, Edith and Christy did an amazing job even though they were slow to respond to emails the months prior. The food was great compared to other resorts. Great customer service from all the servers in the restaurants. Semi close to downtown Cancun. In conclusion, I would not stay here again in the future, a lot of our wedding guests stayed here and brought the hotel a large amount of money, aside from how much we had already spent on our wedding. Two minutes after we registered and got our rooms we were harassed to go to one of their time share meetings. It started off like she was telling us about the hotel and instead was a sales pitch. We said we would think about it and she gave us a hat and t-shirt (the t-shirt literally fell apart when we washed it). The day of our departure she called our hotel room super early TWICE to see if we would go to her time share meeting. Both times I told her no. We were also constantly harassed at the beach and hotel lobby to buy a massage from the spa. The hotel is under heavy construction, we were woken up every morning by noise. We stayed at this hotel to see if we wanted to get married here. Less than an hour after being there, I knew the answer was absolutely not. Our room looked nothing like the pictures online, I mean nothing. I felt like I was staying at a Motel 6. Actually Motel 6 has better rooms (I've stayed there before). Our room had a leaky floor, shower door didn't close, and our patio looked out into the parking lot. You'd think they would give us a decent room knowing we were there for wedding site inspection. The only redeeming quality about this hotel is the restaurant staff and our wedding coordinator Donovan. Otherwise, I'd give this resort 0 stars if I could. Also, because the hotel is under renovation we could never find a restaurant that was open. We ate at the buffet for two days straight. My recommendation is to go to another resort. We stayed at 4 resorts this trip and this was by far the worst one -construction, quality of our room, harassed by hotel staff, and lack of restaurants open. read more

At first glance this hotel didn't seem like much specially since they are currently under construction not what u want to see when pulling up to your hotel ... in this situation it didn't turn out to be a big deal, at least for my friends & I since everything else was above expectations specially the service. Daniel our server was amazing, very helpful we held onto him for the rest our stay we booked cabanas with him there wasn't anything he couldn't get us or helped us with such an amazing personally. Our lunch at the cabana varied we tried everything it seems Good Nachos & Wings, great Ceviche & Chips & guacamole, good Shrimp tacos & amazing Seafood & Chicken soups. Also tried the Coconut drink they add what ever u want inside I tried with Piña Colada not bad coconut is fun for taking pics Loll.. Maria was our massage go to person she was nice & friendly, massages did the trick. During our buffet visits Felix was our guy another great personally & service. Food wise the breakfast at the Buffet was very good, Lunch & at night also good food & plenty of choices very helpful staff. We had dinner at Maria's one night good Mexican food here, the Sunset restaurant had great breakfast options seating outside & inside both restaurants nice service. Hotel itself construction aside it was nice & clean, small pool some may find not that great but really not that big a deal when u have the beach right in front, great beach area. Pool bar pretty good, they grill here during the day had a delicious burger. There's also a decent lobby bar only complain it was crazy hot. They seem to set up different food stations one day noticed Tacos outside by the pool area another seemed like a Mexican buffet inside lobby area w tacos, elotes & margaritas even a real donkey to take pics with nice touch. Rooms were nice & big mine had partial ocean view, loved the toiletries they smell amazing, good mini fridge. I am generous in giving one start . We purchased our reservation in January 2017. In august 2017, the hotel started construction. The did not notify anyone . We r here now in November . Customer Service is horrible ! Restaurants are terrible . You have to wait and they don't take reservations. You are limited in places to eat . And the rooms are horrible . Too small . Two years ago, we stayed here and it was not like this . Horrible . I do not recommended . You cannot enjoy anything because all you hear is noise from the construction and it smells really bad. If you are looking for a place with trees and beautiful garden to relax then this is not it. It literally Just a block of concrete built on sand. Hallways and rooms are dark and smell moldy. This is probably because of the high humidity so the room feels kind of moist and unclean. I would think they should have put some type of air refresher in the rooms or the hallway to make it smells better. Yeah the service is marginal. My second stay in Cancun, and I'm a little disappointed. I booked this hotel on Expedia and did lots of research. With its 4.1 average rating, I thought I was going to have a good time. Our party of three had a smooth check in. We were greeted with champagne and only waited till 1:30 to get our room. The food at this place is absolutely terrible. Please note that this place doesn't do reservation and you might have to wait for dinner. The food at the 5 restaurants were very disappointing. Throughout the whole trip, the only thing I was able to stomach was their fruits smothered in Tajin. So many people raved about the good food, that I think they might be drunk out of their minds. The Italian restaurant had undertook ravioli that tasted like dough stuffed with meat. The spinach fettuccine had ham and cheese and they added on crusted chicken that had a red sauce. Who mixes red and white sauce? The buffets had terrible dessert, watery ice cream, and inedible selection of meat and other entrees. Who puts nacho cheese on their hamburgers to make up for real cheese?? So nasty! If you chose to eat at the al la carte restaurants be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for your meal to come out after ordering. The hotel had two pools. One for the adults that had a bunch of activities every hour and one for the kids. They served hamburgers and hotdogs on the side every day. The drinks were terrible here, and their mango tangos were not made correctly. Juice on the bottom with a slushy strawberry on top? Everything was watered down. The wait stuff which consisted of mainly men were pretty friendly on a plus side. The hostess needs to learn how to smile more. The photo people were a little pushy. Like who the hell wants a photo shoot with an iguana and pay overprice money for it. The hotel room was decent with a hammock on the balcony. However no snacks in the room, and my fridge was leaking. The temperature was never right because you couldn't read the numbers on the thermostat. Construction was so loud and the walls were super thin you could hear all the pounding and drilling they were doing. I will not be back at this hotel. Family vacation! It's been renovated and very nicely done! (We visited when Gran Caribe) The staff at this resort, hats down, best service we have received. Everyone greets you with respect. Plenty of activities thru out the day, wish we knew the schedule in order to participate more. Check in was smooth, we upgraded to ocean front but sincerely ocean view would had been fine, size in rooms don't change. Our room did have a hammock that was an extra. Kids pool is clean and bbq area outside is very convenient. Need more waiters around pool area. I just saw one taking care of all the guest in the pool. Al la carta restaurants wait time is ridiculous. We were very disappointed. We arrived at 7pm at SunSet and was asked to return in an hour as all sitting tables were full. We did, we ended up being seated until 9pm and dinner served by 10pm. We had upset and hungry children we wish we would had just walked out and had room service. Not enough sitting space for the volume of guest this resort has. We had to settle for the buffet for the rest of our stay and food was okay. They have a new coffee shop (panama coffee shop) My son would go every morning for his coco and freshly baked bread. I can't remember his name but the worker made him fell so special handing him the coco and calling him señor (my son is 3 and loved the attention) thank you! For being a highlight on our trip. My son looked forward to jumping out of the elevator and waiting patiently in line. Beach water is a bit rough but you are able to go in. This beach doesn't have much vendors as other resorts in Cancun. Beach had some seaweed that seem to be a problem right now im Cancun but ocean is still beautiful beach. We also visited Panama Jack in Playa del Carmen. beautiful resort as well. Very good location, walking distance to the shopping avenidas. Staff was very welcoming and thanking us since we came from sister hotel. Here, I don't recommend the beach. Water unfortunately has been contaminated more from seaweed.( I attached photos) no one was in the ocean We would consider returning once all al la carta restaurants are opened and after reviewing reviews. My friends and I spent 4 days and 5 nights in this amazing resort. I loved loved everything about this place. We were greeted as soon as we walked into the hotel. We were given glasses of moscato while we were checking in, i couldn't have felt more relaxed. Everyone was so friendly here. All the restaurants inside the hotel were pretty good but my favorite was Gaviota's. My boyfriend and I had the master suite with the jacuzzi, spacious living room and snack bar with liquor bottles and refreshments that were refilled daily. I loved everything about our room. We had a walk in steak shower! Downstairs at the bar I made sure I always ordered from Luis. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye but thanks to this guy I never waited long for any drinks and by my second day there he would make my drinks before I approached him. Talk about a great bartender. I also want to include that BD travel was awesome at booking our excursions and our fun activities. Ask for Alfredo he's the guy with all the answers. The pools were great as well, we had a blast in the pool slides. Best of all the hammocks by the beach where you can relax with a drink in your hand while the light breeze passes you. I stayed at the Gran Caribe for spring break with 3 other girls, and we had a great time! We were greeted as soon as we stepped out of our taxi with free waters, sodas, drinks - we got there early so our room wasn't ready, but they checked us in and gave us our all inclusive wrist bands immediately! Our room was missing a cot when we did finally check in, but the front desk staff was so friendly and sent someone to set it up right away! The bars by the pool and in the lobby would often get crowded during the day and night (probably due to the fact that there were so many spring breakers), but the bartenders were always quick and super helpful when I wasn't sure what drink to order! The drinks were definitely watered down, as can be expected at an all inclusive resort, but if you're pleasant and respectful to the bartenders, they will certainly honor your "double shot mojito" request! :) All the restaurants in the resort were good, and we had great service *most* of the time! There were a few exceptions when we had to remind our waiters more than twice that we had ordered drinks or desserts; one time, we waited over 30 mins for a dessert, so we decided to leave since our waiter was nowhere to be found, only to have him shout over at us as we left that he had our desserts - we asked the hostess if we could just take them to go, but before she could even go grab them from our waiter, he had given them away to another table...maybe this is common with all-inclusive, but that was one of the very few times we felt like the service wasn't exceptional. That being said, we had an AMAZING time - the cleaning staff, front desk attendants, and every other employee were so so helpful, patient, and friendly. They answered all our questions and made us feel so unbelievably welcome in Cancun. On our last night, we visited the Italian restaurant, Il Pescatore, and had the pleasure of being served by Fili, the most amazing waiter! He was so attentive and friendly, and even made us all adorable little tissue paper roses to take home with us! He made our last night quite memorable! I would highly recommend Gran Caribe for any college spring breaker looking to relax, eat and drink A LOT, and have easy and quick access to the typical spring break party spots like Senor Frogs and Coco Bongo (a 5 min. bus ride from the resort! This was my second trip to Cancun and it was a disappointment overall. With such high reviews and ratings, I came in with high expectations. My trip was in mid August of 2017, and upon first arrival, I noticed there was no door at the front entrance which was strange. Upon entering, I felt a massive change in the temperature, there were no ACs at all. Not only was it hot outside of the hotel, but also inside the hotel. Food : There are about 4-5 restaurants, with two being buffet style. Aside from the buffet restaurants, there is an italian restaurant and a mexican restaurant (which made this review earn 2 stars). The food overall was mediocre, not much selection on a daily basis. Buffets always have eggs and fruits in the morning, pasta for lunch and at night-time, the restaurants open up. Room service is available with a fixed selection of limited choices. Drinks : Bars are located all over the resort. The drinks are fairly good. I recommend the piña colada, go for the blue lagoon if you're feeling like a hotshot. Aside from the food and drinks, there are two swimming pools, and some mini water slides. In addition to that, there is mini-golf and a teen zone for ages 13-17. Take my word for it and reserve elsewhere. read more

This visit was our first to Cancun and our honeymoon. We were greeted by a very nice employee with an iPad who looked us up by name, told us to take a seat and that someone from the resort would come get us to continue our check in. We waited 3 hours in the lobby until we finally walked up to the front desk to ask when we could check in, we just assumed they were very busy. Turns out we could have checked in right away, on the 6th floor, because we were VIP "black band", but we were told wrong. The entire downstairs/lobby area was completely open to the outside, which seemed like a good idea but, we were drenched in sweat after waiting that long to be checked in. They ended up upgrading our room to an ocean view. Avoid visiting during June - August, it's so hot that you'll regret it. The food was sub-par, from the room service, to VIP lounge, and restaurants we went to (Viaggios, Deck 74, Ventanas, Club Panama Jack VIP, and room service). The best thing we found was the pizza at Viaggios and the Mexican breakfast buffet. (And it's like pizza from a box). Cheesecake from room service is hard and the meat from Deck 74 is nothing but bone and hard fat. The only restaurant I throughly enjoyed was the Panama Jack Coffee Co. You only get a small cup though, and it's downstairs in an unair conditioned area. As far as alcoholic drinks, we started out with Burbon and Cokes, switched to fruity drinks and realized that we weren't getting any sort of buzz, and we questioned whether they were putting alcohol in the drinks at all. We started asking for extra alcohol and still didn't feel anything, so we started getting a shot on the side of any drink we got, which helped, but is completely ridiculous. And just FYI, we had single shots and the alcohol is not strong at all. One of the biggest things that bothered me was that the VIP lounge upstairs wasn't much different than downstairs bars, except for the fact that you can get some wine up there. Wine is not included in the ALL INCLUSIVE package. It would be helpful if the VIP lounge had an actual bar tender. I asked for a Jager bomb, lemon drop, and two types of miles and they didn't have the stuff to make it and didn't know what they were?! They need to get real bartenders, who have had ample training. The rooms, on the 6th floor, are beautiful, very updated and modern. The housekeeping cleaned our rooms twice a day, and when you arrive you have the option to have laundry for the entire week for $50, and trust me, it's well worth the money. We may come back to Cancún with our friends next year, in the off months, but I can't say that we will be coming to this resort. But at least we didn't have the trouble that the other Panama Jack Cancún, Playa de Carmen had, many came an hour away just to swim in our pool because the resort smelt like sewage. Personally, when I stay at resorts I'm there for the FOOD and DRINKS. If that you too, this is NOT the place for you. read more

Gran Caribe was really great--stayed for a 6 days with my boyfriend and we had a really nice time. Upon check-in we were greeted with some drinks and a lovely receptionist who let us go see 2 different rooms and choose which one we wanted. This has never been offered to me before so I thought it was pretty cool. The room itself was kind of bland but did the trick. Junior suite ocean view--nice balcony with a hammock. I found the sink/bathroom area to be the best part of the room oddly enough--its huge. First part is a sink and closet area, followed by a separate large bathroom with an additional large mirror/vanity. If you are traveling with female(s) who need plenty of space to leave their toiletries/get ready, you will understand why this is the best part of the room! Ana took care of our room for the week--she was incredibly sweet and made towel swans for us nearly every day :) As for the food..it's really not bad. People need to keep in mind that they're staying at an all-inclusive..in Mexico..you're not going to get a 4 star dinner. Just have an open mind! Albatros was by far the best for breakfast/lunch. Sunset Grille was also really good for lunch. The italian restaurant was OK, but our waiter Alberto made it worth while--such a great guy. Order the Mexican coffee!! They only have 1 kind of red/white wine each..stick to the white, the red is pretty bad. (Or just drink tequilla!!) The beach is gorgeous..as for the cabanas, don't be fooled by the signs on them that say reserved. We stayed at them various times throughout or stay without being bothered or having to pay..nearly all of them were empty. I really wasn't crazy about the pool. They have one small one for children (a plus) and one main pool. The main pool is rather small and constantly taken over by people playing volleyball or some staff member yelling into a microphone over terrible music. If you're looking for a quiet relaxing pool, you will not like this. Every night they have vendors come and showcase their handmade items for sale..it was nice for the first night but after a while I found it to be kind of cheesy. There are plenty of these vendors downtown and across the street at the flamingo mall, why would you bring them inside the hotel as well? If they are offering the beach dinner..do it!! The portion size was incredible..you'll never get a 4 course surf and turf dinner for $50/person anywhere but here. Just do it. Definitely worth it. Some parts of the hotel show its age--but overall it is great for the price. The staff is incredible. In the future I will try somewhere else in Cancun, but certainly would not mind returning to Gran Caribe. read more

I'm very disappointed with my check in process. I spent extra money booking an ocean-view room. At check-in, I reminded them I booked an ocean-view room and they assured me that I would receive one. A big surprise when I opened my room door to find out it is literally a basement where the lawn is above my head with absolutely zero ocean-view. When I angrily returned to the front desk, they don't appear to be surprised at all as if they know I would come back. Eventually, I did get my ocean-view room the next night. However, this is such a bad experience that totally ruined the reputation of the hotel. Oh BTW, if you want to eat in the restaurants other than the buffet, be prepared for a 3-hour wait. read more

Please do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. I rarely give such negative reviews but there are certain things that if done (or not done) then you leave me no choice. Check-in: Smooth for me. Not for our other group. Why did they have to leave their IDs at the front desk, but I did not? No explanation of where to find the hotel amenities or how to see what activities are happening each day. Room: Actually quite nice. Loved the amount of goodies they leave in the bathroom. We took our sewing kit home cause we don't have one. Wi-Fi: Fairly spotty around the resort, but mostly worked. Certainly don't try to stream anything though. Drinks: It's All-Inclusive. People come here to imbibe. You'll find your bacardi and other mid-shelf liquors, but not a lot of variety by any means. They must contract with a distributor and only sell 1 type of each alcohol. Mixers are hit and miss; don't try to order anything too fancy. Think of the people behind the bar as hotel workers, not superior mixologists. I swear places like this get weaker alcohol too, cause you can drink 5 rum and cokes and not feel a thing. Food: WORST FOOD EVER! Maybe I'm spoiled because I grew up in a house that cooked. Maybe I'm spoiled because I live in Portland and can get good food anytime. Maybe I just had high expectations. Whatever the case may be, the food is largely disgusting. Guacamole should have chunks of avocado in it. If it does not, then you didn't make it yourself. Mushrooms shouldn't have the texture of petrified wood. Scallops shouldn't feel like chewing rubber bands. Ice Cream should be frozen, not soup (and not neon pink). You don't put liquid nacho cheese on a cheeseburger. And you shouldn't be serving frozen peas and carrots and playing it off like you're Gordon Ramsay serving 3 Michelin Star food. Whoever thinks this food was good needs some serious culinary smacks to the face, because it was horrible. Breakfast was my favorite meal because at least you had fresh fruit and we watched them fry some eggs! Everything else is overcooked, overfried, overbaked pieces of frozen, boxed crap. The beach was nice and there were plenty of chairs out for people. The best thing was we got to see some turtles one night that crawled up to lay eggs. read more

We brought our family to visit several resorts and help us scout for wedding venues. We scheduled far in advance for us, MIL, and brother. My dad found out he had cancer so we talked my parents into coming with as it might be difficult to attend the wedding due to chemo. They booked last minute and we're unable to find a room with us at the Wyndham Alltura/PJ resort but we wanted them to come so they could see the venue options and get dinner with us. The resort has a policy to not let people without a band enjoy the property. Understandable but there need to be exceptions to every policy. They let us all participate in the wedding tour that we scheduled. As we were waiting for staff to check us into VIP, which took two visits to the VIP desk and about 40 minutes, my mom needed to use the restroom. She was treated like a vagrant by hotel staff because she didn't have a band. My dad was denied a beverage while we waited. We ended up leaving the property to shop and upon return, a staff member got all gangster and wouldn't let my parents back in the lobby to wait for the shuttle, use the restroom, or have any water (late July), despite being chaperoned by us, band holders). Disrespect aside, the venue is trash. The coordinator has been very responsive by email which was great, but couldn't commit to meeting with us when we arrived for a scheduled visit. Instead we met with a booking specialist who was great but could obviously not answer all questions. The beach venue is beautiful but not very private. There is a rooftop venue with a decent ocean view but zero shade and views of other rooftops with loud HVAC units. The only covered outdoor option is at the end of their tiny pool. Again not private at all. The backup option is a standard ballroom style room indoors. The entry doors are literally from shipping containers, giving it a serious Dexter vibe. The doors aren't even nice looking and they have nasty paint runs that legit look like blood. The carpet is horrendous and there is a funky smell in the ballroom. This review was written within 4.5 hours of our check in. Azul is not very good. Asked to be seated inside (very slow) and was escorted to patio seating, then asked to be seated inside and was told it's better outside. Sushi is ok. Pad Thai is some noodles and (substituted) chicken with 2-3 peanuts and some sauce. Beef and noodles looks like a bovine tapeworm garnished with beet juice. Samosas are decent. Gyzoga is not on par. Nothing really up to par. Ice cream shop is closed by 7 on Friday. Unaccompanied teens running loose. Other people are the east coast gentrifier party types. Terrible lip singing pretend guitar playing dude in the buffet seating area straight blasting pop music. 6th floor upgrade room is nice. Separate bed, bath, and living rooms. Hot tub in bedroom (great addition for a tropical environment?). AC in room doesn't work very well. I set to 18 C and it never drops below 23, leaving it warm and muggy. Couch is stained and bed is very very firm. Like really firm. Like a day bed from the beach firm. Mini fridge does not cool drinks at all. Overall, this place feels like an overpriced Miami s***hole. I think they forgot how much nicer Cancun used to be than America ever has been. Just let old ladies use your toilet and have some water. For the love of gawd. Day 2. Our room flooded due to rain. More accurately, due to an engineering failure. We woke up to a loud knocking sound on the patio that we couldn't identify (due to wind). The sliding glass door tracks were filled with water. After an all day excursion, we came back to discover wet clothing from our bedside placed on the elevated steps to the hot tub. A decorative pillow apparently got wet, so staff put it outside to dry in the rain. Makes total sense. Staff bypassed our DND sign on the door to enter and presumably remove water. The couch is disgusting. Dark stains all over and a funky smell. There's a bench at the foot of the bed that is also badly stained. Chair cushions are ripped and losing their stuffing. I do like that they have a decent selection of English speaking channels on the tv. read more

My husband and I had the most wonderful and relaxing experience here! The pool and the beach were clean and beautiful! Super relaxing and exactly what we needed! Check in and check out was a breeze. They first sit down with you and you think, oh no. But they just grab you a cocktail and tell you all the amenities that they offer, and if there is anything else come find them. I always feel like they say that and really don't mean it or try to sell you on a million things, but we felt they were very genuine and not pushy at all. We had Rafael as our guest experience guy and he was awesome! Thanks Rafael! Wide variety of food and drink options. I was impressed with most of the food and restaurants. The longest wait time we had was 45 min and we would just get a cocktail at the bar and watch the entertainment that they had for the evening. The service everywhere (bar and restaurant) was wonderful, we didn't have one rude or annoyed server. They all seemed happy to be there and to serve us. Such a relief! They made everything so easy and effortless for us. We travel a lot and normally don't go to the same place or city twice but we will definitely be back again to this resort. This is a great place to stay in Cancun. Great location! Great service! Excellent!!! The lobby always has fresh flowers, smells good. You can drink the water here. Beautiful pool, private beach. First impression: Hot! It's a nice lobby, but check in is slow. We booked through Amoma for around $250/day for 3 adults & 1 child about 4 months prior. (It went up in price over time.) Be prepared to call Amoma to get the correct reservation #. It was a hassle and I highly suggest you deal with it before the trip, but they were so much cheaper for us. We upgraded to the Gran 1 bedroom with a view for an extra $120/day. It's a pretty and spacious room, but you don't get a door, so there wasn't much more privacy if you have kids. Looking back, I wouldn't do that upgrade again. I'd do the walkout for @ $60/day. Initial upgrade cost was higher, but we negotiated to 50% less. Make sure you use accurate kid's ages or you WILL be charged extra. We were fine, but heard others make this mistake. We used www.cancun-airport.net and paid $53 for roundtrip for 4 to the airport. Don't get conned by those inside who want to take you to your driver and then want a fee. Your driver will have a sign and will be yelling your name. You'll find him/her easily. I feel like we got a decent price on both the hotel & car. Buses can be caught everywhere (not just at stops) for 10.50 pesos one way, so currently for about $.50. There is only one toilet at Market 28 and you'll need 1-2 pesos and TP is rationed. Oh and toilet seats are currently missing, so be warned! Back to the hotel... Leaving a tip for the maid gets you double of everything. We were celebrating a birthday and the maid went all out to decorate and spoil us. . Food - Good, but not great. Try the Mongolian one for dinner. Room service is quick and available 1x per day. They had better food than some of the restaurants! Lastly, don't worry about wait times. The dress code is laxer than you'll expect at the nicer restaurants. Shorts are fine, summer dresses, etc; only 2 - 3% wore formal clothes. I think the only rule was no bathing suits or flip flops. (Sandals for women are fine.) Activities - Here's my main complaint and what swayed me to only 3 stars. They didn't have any of the things that were claimed on their website. No water toys at all. Zero. Teen activities were cancelled due to lack of participants. No cooking or drink lessons. They have shows each evening, but they are amateurs. Still enjoyable, but a lot of people stood up and walked out 1/2 way through. Also, the ocean is really tough current wise. There's a free beach a couple of kilometers away that is peaceful and much more fun to swim in. Just walking along on the edge can be tough. Cabanas - We had the upgraded clear bracelet and 6th floor access, but you still can only use the left side cabanas. The right side ones are nicer with backs, but they charge an extra $25 for them. Beach towels are either in the room or they'll give you a card to pick up new ones at the desk. Lounge - Excellent staff during the am/pm. A $5 tip for 2 drinks made the evening waiter look at us with disgust and ignore us the rest of the time. Everyone else at the resort appeared genuinely appreciative. He was just the "bad apple" in the group. Summary - Go if you can get a great deal, but we will personally choose a different hotel as we were hoping for water toys and more entertainment. The rooms were better than expected, but the lack of a door was annoying. The food was fine, but not remarkable. It was a good week overall, but I think we will try a different hotel next time. I almost forgot, there were 2 separate air conditioners that we didn't notice until 1/2 way through our stay! That made the room much, much cooler and more comfortable. While a very beautiful hotel, clean and the food was good it was a very noise hotel. My wife and I had to move rooms due to the excessive noise. I'm not normally the type to care. I can sleep through anything but even the slightest noise echos down the halls and into your room. Forget having a private time with your wife, it feels like the people in the halls are standing in your room. The bars were great and the drinks were good. A lot of friendly people in them. The food was good but get a reservation early. read more

Had a wonderful time in Cancun (Feb 20-24 2021) yet come home to fraudulent charges on my debit card from the ATM in the resort. Very upset. Only used the ATM 1 time to withdraw money, and come home to this! Shame on you Panama Jacks!!!!!Had to change all my auto pay bills and everything. This is something that should never happen. Cannot believe that a resort would let this happen from an ATM in their resort!!! read more

Best hotel in a perfect spot. Yes it's not all up to date and super fancy but the amount of attention the put on EVERY guest is worth the stay! Everyone is so welcoming and happy to serve you, I love the attention to every detail thIs place has from your room/towel designs to your dinner plate. Anything you need is a snap away and I honestly wouldn't picture myself going to another resort. I come here once a year and it never changes all of their employees are so giving and helpful it makes me not want to leave! I spent a long weekend here with my mom and sister for a girls trip/my birthday! The resort is definitely family friendly having an entire pool, water slide & camp dedicated to kids. Having stayed in bigger resorts like Riu's I appreciated it not being too big nor too small but it was perfect for 3 women on a long weekend. The pool wasn't huge and the bar wasn't swim up but the staff that brought out drinks were friendly and accommodating, just wish they were a little bit quicker! I LOVED the coffee bar. While the alcohol was good, being able to have a latte whenever I wanted really made me happy. The one star off is for the food. We didn't love any of the restaurants they seemed to be pretty mediocre but there was one night they had a huge Octoberfest outside (including a mechanical bull) and the grilled chicken, steak & pork were fantastic. For my birthday we had the most amazing massages right on the beach and I came back to my room decorated with a banner, rose petals, balloons, champagne & cake! Every employee was pleasant to the point it didn't feel they were just doing their jobs or being nice because they had to, but that they really cared that we enjoyed our experience. Overall it was a great place for the three of us but I think going with the whole fam we'd probably stay somewhere a little bigger with more food options! read more
