This was a review for my second time ordering at Pancoast Pizza. The first time the food and delivery was great! This time my experience was not good. It took over and hour to get my order. I called the restaurant directly because Grub Hub said my order was not being processed. When I called I was told they do online orders last. I recommend calling them directly if you want your order to not take forever to get. When I finally got my food, I was given the wrong sandwich. I didn't want to wait for a new sandwich so I ate what they sent, which is a shame because I was really looking forward to my original order. I will definitely try them again because my first experience was good. Hopefully they will improve their service, especially for online orders. read more

Totally legit and fresh. The kids are in heaven here, and I love that I can get an organic salad with wings. The ranch is even homemade and fresh (like Zachary's ranch). Pizza is the closest to New York pizza that I've been able to find. I've come a couple times since the remodel/expansion--it's been great for us. Best pizza in the east bay! The only downside is that the pizzas are super expensive compared to New York pizzas that panCoast models their recipe after. One $ sign on the Yelp app is definitely a lie. Maybe if you buy a small pie with no sauce no cheese and no meat just uncooked dough. Please be real and let people know that panCoast average large 3 topping is about $30 or more. Being an east coaster born and raised and have lived in California for numerous years now I know they are over charging. It isn't the cost of living either because New York is definitely way more expensive than Walnut Creek. Unfortunately California is horrible at making pizza without lettuce (which is an insult to the pizza gods in Napoli) and panCoast know this therefore they are getting over. Best pizza in the area (Walnut Creek / Lafayette / Concord). Yep, even better than Skipolini's Pizza. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon panCoast when he moved to an apartment complex off of Creekside Dr. We now live in Lafayette and still choose panCoast over other pizzerias in the area. Our favorite is definitely Julie's Pizza or the Golden Gate Pizza. The folks at panCoast are awesome at customizing pizza's, too! I do wish that panCoast's restauraunt was a bigger, sit-down style though. There are seats inside, but pretty limited. Most of the time, people who are in the restaurant have either 1) ordered 1-2 slices with a drink or 2) are waiting to pick-up their order to-go. Does one bad apple spoil the whole bunch babe? Or in this case pizza. Plenty of preparation went into my first visit to panCoast pizza. I studied the menu and reviews for an entire week readying myself for this important order for our Friday dinner and movie night.The pie that caught my eye was the Brooklyn Pizza. Its description: fior di latte mozzarella, topped with homemade tomato sauce, fresh basil, aged pecorino. Try it with sausage! Bob's favorite! Hell yes, Bob likes it, it must be good. I arrived about 20 minutes after I called in the order and they said give them another 8 minutes(I gave them 15 minutes). There were numerous of people working in the confined open kitchen and the line was out the door. Everyone behind the counter was pleasant and they knew to whom each order went. My order was brought to me(lg Brooklyn pie and family arugula salad) and off I go. At home we dig in and discover the pizza to be underwhelmed in toppings and the thin crust(a plus) is not crisp. The handmade mozzarella resembles firm milk, sauce is almost all located in the center and I can't taste the aged pecorino. The sausage was ordered hot and not sweet but could not detect heat. The crust was so flimsy it fell apart under the weight of the sauce. The arugula salad on the other hand was outstanding. The peppery arugula married well with the meyer lemon vinaigrette, shaved almonds and aged pecorino. Price for this experience was $46.00. The pie was $28 and the salad $13.75, add tax and cha ching. Although our high priced pie was a let down on this visit we will give them another shot at redemption and try something different. For this visit the pie rated 2 stars, the salad 4 stars and the service 4 stars. Because the pie cost $28 the best I can give panCoast pizza is 3 stars. read more

Not bad, though you do pay Walnut Creek prices. Had a slice of their daily pizza, which I believe was salami and ricotta. The pizza was already made, but warmed up in the oven and nice and hot. Ingredients were quite tasty and good quality. The slice was standard size. The thin crust was nicely cooked, crispy without being burned. Keep in mind it was $4.50 for a slice, so definitely pricey, but most places in the area are on the expensive side. A slice probably isn't enough for dinner, more like a snack. Service was good, they seemed quite welcoming. read more

Just happened to see this place during a surprise visit to the Kaiser emergency room (thanks Lacrosse!) and did the 'huh...I didn't know that was there...' thing. The next day, my son in his new cast, we attended another lacrosse game at Los Lomas and decided to check it out. The references to NY pizza are accurate. Just like the places we visited during our recent trip. My son managed to inhale 2 slices of pepperoni with one arm. My wife and I enjoyed the vegetarian which was garlicy and spicy. Good slices, reasonably priced. Nothing fancy, just honest food for a good price. Its actually nice to see a new restaurant in WC not trying to be a show-place. Good food done right. Perfect. The location isn't on the beaten path for us, but I would make the trip over there if we were downtown. PanCoast Pizza is my favorite, as of 12/1/2012 :-) and 2 years of living in the Bay Area. I am a NYer, so that is my point of reference for pizza. Love this place-- Love the crust (not too thin or thick, nice and crunchy), the cheese (smooth, not excessive, and served hot out of oven, they dont leave it sitting around waiting for the pick up), the toppings are fresh and not overloaded on the pie. Very very pleased with this pie and I will drive to pick it up rather than take delivery of a lesser pie from another store. --oh and this store has parking immediately adjacent to it which makes pick up easy! The staff is friendly & helpful & courteous each time I've been in there. If I had one wish, it would be that they offered 2-liter bottles of soda for sale, which to me seems pretty important for a primarily take-out food establishment. It is amazing how difficult it can be find a place that sells slices. look at Walnut Creek - Extreme Pizza does it (Gross), as does Skippolinis (Onlu Lunch time)... Pancoast has slices sitting there waiting to eat all day, evidenced by the fast that when I ordered a whole pie, at 7:30 they had four different kinds of slices for sale. I wanted to wait to review this place until I had ordered a whole pizza, knowing that one slice can be misleading - when was it cooked? Is it fresh? Did I buy the mutant sliver slice hats 3-4 hours old? I am glad I did! The Half cheese, half pepperoni and mushroom I bought was amazing, we all had one more slice than hunger warranted. I also tried a Stromboli, something I had only seen in Diners Drive in's and Dives, but never in person. I am assuming these were made before knives to kill people, because its effing delicious and I know its terrible for me - meat, gooey cheese, bread - its a wrapped up pizza super, but what a delight. I would ding this place for the crappy parking situation, but that isn't their fault, and since I have to exit south main to go there, its pretty easy for me to go. But I highly recommend you try out this little pizza shop - it is definitely bringing an east coast feel to Walnut Creek. read more

This is a great little pizza joint that anyone would want in their neighborhood. The Food The food is delicious. The have specialty pizzas that seem to change daily. They have the garlic knots which are absolutely tasty. And for adults, they have an assortment of a few beers. The Price The price is normal for Walnut Creek which means it's higher than the rest of the country, but it's a bit lower than other comparable places in the Bay Area. So it's fine. The Ambiance I think that's one of the coolest parts about this place. The vibe, and the people. The owner is always back there working and making pizza. The staff is always super nice, and pretty chill. There is always really cool music playing. Lots of Grateful Dead, Phish, sometimes, bluegrass and the like. The decor of the place is almost stereotypical 'pizza joint' vibe. It's exactly what you would imagine in a small pizza joint. It's just a generally comfortable place. I take my kids there in strollers on a regular basis on my evening walks. I have not ordered food for delivery from this place because I live around the corner so I have no comment on that, but I always see the delivery guy loading up his car with pizzas. Anyway, all in all, this is a great place for pizza. It's not much more nor less. It's great to sit and eat there, alone or with family. And I'm sure it's great for delivery as well. If you've moved from NY to Walnut Creek and have been suffering through the terrible pizza around here like I have, then try PanCoast. It's truly the closest thing to NY style pizza you will get in this area. There's nothing else even close. Unfortunately, you will pay for this luxury. A large cheese pie is 18 bucks. That's pretty nuts. Toppings are 2.25 a piece, and my experience is that they are very chincy with them. The sauce is decent, but very someone there is very heavy handed with the dried italian herbs. I'd order from this place a lot more if a couple of pies weren't going to run me close to 50 bucks. read more

If this is some of the best pizza you've ever had, I truly feel sorry for you. While I can't say it was the absolute worst, it's a far cry from excellent. My husband and I got a large pie with extra sauce & pepperoni. Not only was there not extra sauce on our pizza, there was hardly any at all. I peeled the cheese off a slice & it was 100% bare. We ordered 2 pizza to go this evening. It was not a smooth process. The guy taking the order struggled getting the toppings order correct on the phone and ultimately the topping were wrong on the pizza. The pizza was good even though it wasn't what we ordered. I wasn't fond of the arugula on the vegi pizza, it was easy to remove. The crust is very good if you like a thin crust. The part I really didn't like was biting into an olive pit. Have been there a few times. Pizza was pretty good when it was hot and crispy but when it sat for awhile it tasted like a Tottino's frozen pizza. The place seems chill, has a couple of TV's for watching football but unless you like the Philadelphia eagles, don't go there on Sunday. Plus there's no volume except for dumb hippie music playing in the background. (Dude, Jerry died in 1995 OK? Play something current.) I really enjoy most of all coming in here and smelling the weed and patchouli mixed with dirty mop. This is one of the 2 unique pizza places that stands out for me in Walnut Creek. The other being 54mint. No one does pizzas like 54Mint il forno, and this place is a close second to that. I wouldn't know how New York 'original' their pizza is, but I do know that their thin-crust specialty pizzas are pretty addictive if you ate them piping-hot. For starters, their Marguerite pizza is a MUST try. I am sold on their Julie's and Golden Gate pizzas as well, but the Marguerite pizza inches out for me by a little. And then I'd have to be back to try the rest on the menu, of course.. One star off for the parking situation. I almost can never find parking Friday and Saturday nights, and so convinced myself to go during off-peak days. read more

Decided to try this place after seeing the Yelp reviews. We ordered a large white cap pizza. We're normally a pepperoni/sausage or combo eaters. Saw a pic posted 1/2 white cap & 1/2 pepp/sausage. We ordered that over the phone. The guy says he can't do that because they are 2 different sauces. This is annoying since it can be done we're looking at a pic of one on their Yelp page! Hubby didn't say anything so we went with a whole white cap. Pizza was good, nothing spectacular. I went against my own word and tried this place again, and this time I'm MUCH happier! I ordered "The White Cap" in a small, and a slice of pepperoni. Originally I asked for delivery, but it's game 7 of the series and I live [literally] 5 minutes up the street, so I switched to pick up. The whole pie was ready when I got there, but I waited a little too long for the slice of pepperoni, which really bothered me. However, they gave me free garlic knots and an extra half slice of the pepperoni, and after one bite of those knots I was like "what wait???" People, their pizza is hella good! How have I never been to panCoast before? Located right next to Las Lomas High School and across the street from Kaiser, panCoast has a tiny parking lot with two spots reserved, but there is plentiful street parking. My friend and I ordered four garlic knots and a small Julie's, which had roasted mushrooms, baby spinach, roasted garlic, smoked mozzarella, Fontina, ricotta, and parmesan. The garlic knots were just the right amount of garlicy, and perfectly toasted. Our pizza came out right afterwards, and it was nice and cheesey, with a thin crust that was delicious. The roasted garlic was a little more mushy than I usually like it, but it was still good. All the ingredients went really well together, and being the kind of person that likes my pizza with a lot of meat, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the Julie's was. I'm a huge New York Pizza fanatic, and so is the rest of my family. After looking for new pizzerias, I came across Pancoast Pizza. I read the reviews, most of them positive, and decided to give it a try tonight. I ordered a large pizza, half hawaiian and half pepperoni, sausage and spicy Italian sausage for pickup. When I picked up my pizza, the first thing I noticed was how small the parking lot is. There are 3 reserved parking spaces for a salon, maybe a dozen parking spaces for the rest of the businesses, and parking along the street. When I walked inside, the place was really small, but clean. I picked up my pizza, paid the $27, and made my way home. I opened the box and looked at the pizza. The crust was thin, which is what I like. The amount of sauce was pretty good, but the pizza lacked a reasonable amount of toppings. The salami, pepperoni, and ham were thinly placed along the pizza. There wasn't a lot of pineapple on the pizza, and the spicy Italian sausage were sliced sausages, and not the chunks of sausage most other pizzerias use. We would usually devour a large pizza among all of us, but none of us would eat more than 1 slice. Some of the comparable places to Pancoast Pizza that were brought up include Papa Murphy's, Little Caesars, Dominos, Pizza Hut and Safeway pizza. Some of the best pizza I've had so far has been at Rocco's Ristorante in Walnut Creek, Melos Pizza in Pleasant Hill, and Pasquale's in San Francisco - all of which would run me no more than $20 for the same pizza I paid $27 at Pancoast Pizza. Pancoast Pizza definitely does not make the cut as one of the top pizzerias. read more

Used to be to get good New York pizza in the Bay Area, you had a 5 hour flight to the east coast. Nowadays, it's just a 30 minute drive or BART ride east to Pancoast Pizza. Pancoast is the best New York style pizza in the Bay Area which is impressive since the owner is from Philly and it's in Walnut Creek. Who would've thunk it? I live in Oakland and occasionally take the trip to Walnut Creek for a few slices. Any excuse, returning wedding gifts, baby sleeping on a drive and don't want to wake him, let's keep driving to Walnut Creek and get pizza. I live near some top rated places and they just don't measure up to Pancoast. Pancoast uses very high quality cheese and they're the only place in the Bay Area that gets the crispness of a thin crust slice right. Places like Slicer, which is very good, overall, fall short on this one essential ingredient of the New York slice, a thin, crispy crust that doesn't flop around when you fold it New York style. Arinell Pizza, which is often mentioned in pizza polls, sometimes gets the crust right, but lacks in taste and quality of ingredients. Pancoast, on the other hand, has excellent specialty slices and often uses organic ingredients. Good organic salads, too. Taking the best of California and New York and putting it near a creek in the suburbs, makes it a sleepy relatively unknown underdog in the pizza world, but oh so good. read more

This is the first place outside of the New York/New Jersey area that's finally done it right. Their sauce is great and the thin crust is perfect. Also the gluten free pizza is amazing. GOOD: Sandwiches were good. BAD: Inquired about possible discounts for local businesses to cashier. A male staff, presume is the proprietor for he looked much older than the other staff, in a definitive tone bellows "NO" while preparing food with his back to my friend and I! This person then turns slightly, extends his hand out, and asks "Does Kaiser offer a discount?" His response was a shock to me and I wasn't sure how to reply for I was in uniform and did not want to create a more inflammatory situation than had come from a question I feel was harmless. For someone working in the customer service business this response was poor to for my purchase was over $50.00. You may be asking why I didn't return the sandwiches with drinks and a get a refund. It's because the meal was for other friends who were limited on time to eat. Instead, I will no longer offer to do business or recommend PANCOST PIZZA as a place to eat to anybody when there are other pizza specialty eateries with more superior pies. read more

I love this pizza! I was a devoted Round Table Pizza girl forever. That's the only place my family and I ever ordered from. Decided to give this place a shot. And, oh, I'm so glad I did! They have the BEST pizza. Yes, that's the name! It's seriously the BEST pizza I've ever had. It has Bacon, Eggs, Spinach and Tomatoes--BEST. It truly is fantastic. This is definitely one of the tastiest pizzas I have ever tried. I am usually a fan of "Chicago" style stuffed pizzas, but have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the pizzas here! I tried a pizza tonight that featured whole cloves of roasted garlic, mushrooms, spinach, and I think four kinds of cheese. The sauce had such a fresh and lively taste! The sausage pizza was delicious too. My two young boys almost finished a large between the two of them. I thought the ceasar salad was exceptional with large shavings of fresh parmesan. I like that you can see your pizzas being made, and you get the sense that these people really care about the quality of the food they serve. I have never tried an "east coast" pizza, but certainly loved Pancoast pizza! read more
