There is nothing wrong with Panda Express and this location as this location is well run. Only reason why I rated them 3 stars is because to me Panda Express is just ok Chinese food for me. Again there is nothing wrong with this restaurant and nothing wrong with this location at all. The food is also cooked well for what Panda Express is known for. Just for me this type of Chinese food is still rated ok for me compared to traditional Chinese food. But again nothing wrong with how they cook the food, or the location. Every now and then I get a real hankering for Panda's orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp with noodles. It was lunchtime and I stopped in at the local South Elgin location as I was out and about in the area. Fortunately, it wasn't too busy in there and the very nice young man behind the counter took my order and got me served immediately. Great job by him. The cashier was waiting for me as I got my food and rang me up immediately. I got my drink and got to my table quite quickly to dig in. The cool thing about Panda is consistency and on this trip, the taste of my order was what I expected. The concern I had was that although I got my food to the table faster than on previous trips to other Panda Expresses in the past, my food was lukewarm right off the get-go. I was surprised by this but I was so blasted hungry, I didn't mind too much at the time. After I got back on the road, I thought about it further and it just didn't add up. My wife and I entered Panda Express in South Elgin at approximately 8:05PM on a Sunday. The store closes at 8:30PM. The manager immediately informed my wife and I that they were not cooking any more food and we would have to order whatever was already done. Well, 1) It was only about 8:06, which means the store was not scheduled to close for another 24 minutes. It wouldn't have taken long to cook what we wanted to order, which was orange chicken. We were ordering a nice amount, which would've been worth it. We wasn't just ordering one order. She refused to take our order. She then asked us to leave because we were upset and threatened to call the police, which she did. Come on everyone, Panda Express is just fine. It's Fast Food Chinese, of course it's different than ordering take out for an actual Chinese restaurant. Even still, it's good. If you order right, it's totally fine. And besides, these are corporate recipes, of course I wish the sweet and sour sauce was better, but I'd have to take that up with corporate :-) I recommend the Sweetfire Chicken, String bean chicken, and the Kung Pao; I also really like the lo mein. Always call in the survey on your receipt for a free entree. At this location the service is hit or miss. That is one thing manager could work on...consistency. Some employees are so friendly and generous and a few are bothered and distracted which doesn't make for good customer service, but ultimately, Panda is good FF Chinese. We will continue to go as long as the food quality stays up and the restaurant stays clean. read more

Pleasantly surprised! I was really craving Panda for lunch and thought I'd give this location another try. My prior experiences have been terrible - from them forgetting me waiting on an order after pulling aside in the drive thru to them being out of almost everything. Today was different! As "Meh" as it gets. The only reason I can justify coming here, is if you seriously only have 5 minutes to get your food and get on with your life, and desperately want chinese. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and take the extra 5-10min it would take to cook and get some good chinese food at one of the local places within a mile of Panda Express. Or better yet, call ahead to one of the other places and it will be ready when you arrive! Great place to eat if your looking for something quick! I have had to wait for my food a good amount of times here, but when I get that panda craving I can wait all day for that delicious chicken. I just had some of the best customer service ever. I had to wait in line for a bit, as I waited I watched the interaction of the young man Austin as he greeted customers and took their orders. He was pleasant and his smile was much appreciated after coming from work. By the time I got to the front of the line, his brother Devin had taken over. Ordered online last night for a pickup at 6:20pm. Went there at 6:15 and watched my daughter (who I sent inside to get the food) stand there without being attended to for 10 minutes. All this while other customers were being rung up from the line. The line was very long but I dont understand how no one even said anything to her but saw her stand there. When she finally said she was there for a online pick up, the food was not ready! Then we come home and find that there are peanuts in the food when I clearly stated on the order that there is a peanut allergy! The receipt too says it on the top. During all this, i called the store 5 times and no one picked up. The kung pao chicken had two small pieces of chicken and a lot of peanuts. Bad looking food! When i saw the peanuts in the food, i called and finally someone picked up and said they are very busy. Then I asked for a manager and was told there isnt one there. Handced the phone over to some employee that I couldnt understand so I asked for someone that spoke english. They gave the phone to a "cook." The cook took all my info and told me to call back today! I will not be wasting my time doing that. Not worth the $23 order! Just letting you all know that in the future, no need to order online and expect an expedited pick up.
