One of my biggest pet peeves is not being seated at my reservation time. We had reserved a table for 5 last Sunday at 1:15pm. But even though we had a reservation, we found ourselves unwilling members of a hungry, irritated crowd of people standing in the lobby of Panda Inn, waiting for our table on Father's Day. We were not seated until 2pm, 45 minutes past our reservation time. Honestly, what is the point of having reservations if the restaurant is not able to honor them? I found my first experience at Panda Inn very irritating and unprofessional. The atmosphere of the restaurant feels a bit dated. The inside of the building almost seems like the inside of a church, with high ceilings and stained glass. The food was on the bland side. The salt and pepper calamari was underseasoned, lacking both salt and pepper. The crab wontons were actually quite good. I liked how plump they were. An order only comes with 4, so we had to order 2 portions to have enough for our party of 5. The orange chicken had a nice crisp to it but did not blow me away. Neither did the honey walnut shrimp. The lo mein was underseasoned. The beef fried rice was underseasoned and mushy. The beef did not taste like it was high quality. My favorite thing that I had was steamed white rice with soy sauce. That's not a compliment, by the way. I'm not sure if the subpar food and service was because of the Father's day rush, but I definitely did not feel much of an urge to return. I unironically would rather go to Panda Express. At least I would be served on time.
While Panda Express should be more than a little familiar to anyone that has eaten at mall food courts before, what might not be as well known is that it was actually started as a fast food/to-go offshoot of Panda Inn, which was founded about a decade before. So, being that I've been of Panda Express ever since I was a kid, how could I not be curious about the restaurant that started it all? Especially after hearing that their famed Orange Chicken was supposed to be even tastier here! Compared to the photos of how their other locations look, this Panda Inn feels a bit worn and dated (like it's from the 90's). However, that's not to say this place is awful or lacking - they have a small lobby area with some nice benches for folks who are waiting for their table, a chill bar section, and a decent amount of seating inside for groups large or small. As for the menu, It's pretty in line with what you'd see at your average Chinese restaurant (starters, soups, stir-fried dishes, noodle dishes, fried rice, seafood, poultry, beef, pork, vegetarian, etc.) and, not surprisingly, includes pretty much all of the same dishes that Panda Express has to offer. -- RASPBERRY LEMONADE This didn't taste quite as "fresh" as we had imagined, but it was still refreshing enough. If nothing else, it had a nice raspberry taste to it and didn't seem too sweet. -- GINGER ALE So much better than the likes of Canada Dry or Seagram's. The taste of ginger in this was sharp with a slight bite that I liked. -- ORANGE CHICKEN - Crispy Breaded Chicken and Baby Corn in Spicy Orange Sauce If you thought their Panda Express version was good, it's true - this one is EVEN BETTER! The batter was crispier and not too thick, the chicken was moist, and the sauce, while slightly sweet, had a slight kick to it that I really liked. Delicious! -- SHRIMP IN GARLIC SAUCE - Shrimp, Snow Peas, Zucchini, Red Bell Peppers, and Water Chestnuts in Garlic Sauce This wasn't bad, but it was definitely my least favorite dish. Although the shrimp were cooked well, I didn't care much for the garlic sauce, which had a bit of kick (good) and a sort of tang to it (not so good). -- BRAISED STRING BEANS with Fresh Garlic in Shao Xing Wine Sauce More solid than spectacular, but not too shabby. While I wish this had a bit of spice or stronger seasoning to it (like XO sauce), I love that the string beans were blistered yet not overcooked, as they still had some bite to them. -- ASSORTED CHOW FUN - Rice Noodles, Shiitake Mushrooms, Baby Bok Choy, and Fresh Ginger in Mushroom Sauce with Beef, Chicken, Pork, Shrimp, and Vegetables Admittedly, I wasn't expecting much out of this one, but it was actually really good! The noodles had a nice chew to them and there was a fair amount of meat/seafood in this. A larger portion/more noodles also would've been nice, but this was great otherwise. Beyond the dishes that we tried, the two other highlights of our visit were our server and the white chocolate covered fortune cookies that came at the end of our meal. The former was really attentive, checking on us throughout our meal, and just super sweet. Ironically, and quite fortunately, that last part can't be said for the fortune cookies, which tasted so good and weren't overly sugary or rich like I feared they'd be. Since they offer so many of the same dishes, folks aren't wrong to say that you can get the same thing for less at Panda Express. However, that's an oversimplification since you're not getting the same thing. In short, those same dishes just taste so much better here, as it makes a huge difference that they're made-to-order in smaller portions versus in large batches and scooped out of a tray. For that reason alone (and the fortune cookies), making the trip to check out the restaurant that spawned Panda Express is absolutely worth it!
Ate here for lunch with my siblings and significant others. We ordered the orange chicken, honey walnut shrimp, upside down crispy noodles, and egg drop soup. Everything was amazing! The chicken was kinda underwhelming but it still hit the spot. Everyone loved the crispiness of the honey walnut shrimp too. at the end, we found out our server put "less spicy" for the orange chicken for whatever reason which explained why it was so underwhelming. We hope to return and try the orange chicken for what it is!
Wowwww I did not expect to LOVE it! Can't believe I didn't come here earlier! Inside is clean and well kept gives you a fine dining experience. Their tables are covered with table cloth! Employees are attentive and even the manager checks on customers waiting to order for take out asking if they have been helped. They have regular and family sizes for most of their dishes. For a party of five we got five dishes regular size and it was plenty. They also give you rice which is a plus! Lastly, their white chocolate dipped fortune cookie is a great surprise as well! Will definitely be back!
Just had dinner at Panda Inn for the first time and i couldnt be more impressed! The food was absolutely outstanding and so was our waiter Sung. Had such a great experience at Panda Inn on Easter Day. We came in as a party of two and were seated within five minutes, which was amazing for a holiday. Our servers were attentive the entire time without being overbearing. The atmosphere felt very family-oriented with nice white tablecloths, giving it that classic, comfortable dining vibe. We ordered the shrimp fried rice and kung pao shrimp, and both were delicious with generous portions--we even had leftovers for the next day. I also tried the cherry blossom drink, which was a perfect, refreshing touch. Overall, everything from the food to the service made this such an enjoyable visit. Definitely coming back!
Had a great experience at Panda Inn! The food was savory and satisfying--especially the honey walnut shrimp, which was perfectly prepared with a crisp exterior and just the right size. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. This spot always feels festive--it's clearly a go-to for celebrations, including my own family's birthdays. We were even able to get semi-private seating this evening, which made the experience feel extra special. Service is usually good. Food was served quickly even although they were busy. Oh and their fortune cookie was dipped in white chocolate which was delish. Definitely a place we'll keep coming back to again and again!
Along with the food, the employees of Panda Inn are excellent! The food was amazing as always. The Honey Walnut Shrimp & Orange Chicken were delicious, truly one of a kind! Went for quick dinner. This time food was a bit dry. The rice was dry and was not upto the average standard that I am used to at this place. Also there was less people serving. The crowd has changed and environment abit low.

I've had this place bookmarked for a while and always wanted to go and I had a good experience going my first time. Panda in is where you can get very size-able portions and good quality overall. My personal favorite was the garlic noodles and the Mongolian beef. My mom and grandma ended up getting the family sized orange chicken and regular order of the panda beef respectively. The Mongolian beef was very good and tender and I did like it for my first time trying it. While the orange chicken was amazing as always. While I wasn't a fan of the panda beef. The service overall was very solid with our server coming around frequently to check up on us to refill our drinks. Finally the white chocolate fortune cookies were very good at the end. read more

Everyone knows about Panda Express; however, Panda Inn is the upscale restaurant in the Panda Restaurant Group family. I used to go to their Pasadena location when I was a kid and I remember the days when they had their Sunday brunch buffet. Like Panda Express, they have Chinese American Classics like Broccoli Beef and Orange Chicken. They're comparable to what you'd get at their fast-food cousin, but the dishes are freshly prepped to order here, which does make a difference. The thing about Panda Inn is that it's an upgraded experience in service, ambiance, and in their preparation. While they have the classics, they have dishes exclusive to the branding like Panda Rice, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and Short Ribs, which take the concept to the next level. People complain about "authenticity" when they talk about Panda Restaurant Group and their brands; however, that's not a problem for me. Their iconic classics are simply delicious and that's why people buy them. In California, we're lucky to have representations of many Chinese and Taiwanese regions; however, this is one that provides approachable food with Chinese techniques for the American audiences. And if you want more "authentic"-adjacent flavors, then simply don't order orange chicken and broccoli beef and choose mapo tofu, scallop in black bean sauce, or gingered fish in scallions. For a family gathering amongst picky eaters, Panda Inn is a place where almost anyone can find something they'd want and, I feel, that that's worth something! read more

I've dined here a few times, and the food is always good. This restaurant is a sit-down fancier version of Panda Express in my opinion. The food is definitely more Americanized Chinese food, but still really good!! Our most recent visit, we went on a Saturday night around 6:15 pm. It was pretty busy with people waiting outside the restaurant. However, the wait wasn't too bad. We waited around 30 minutes to get seated (Party of 4). After we were seated, it took another 30 minutes for the server to take our order, which wasn't the greatest experience, but I understood because it was busy. We ordered the Three Flavors Sizzling Rice soup, Chow Fun, Beef with Oyster Sauce, and Sweet and Pungent Shrimp. The food took quite a while to come out (45+ minutes -- it was almost 8:30 by the time the food came out), at a certain point I thought they had forgotten about our order, but they gave us egg rolls on the house as an apology. The food itself was amazing. The sizzling rice soup came out first, and since we ordered a bowl of it, the server poured it into four small bowls for each person in the party. It was good, and the chunks of chicken in it were flavored well. The chow fun was solid too, and had a good amount of chicken in it. The beef with oyster sauce was DELICIOUS. The beef was so juicy and marinated in oyster sauce perfectly. The snow peas were so crunchy and satisfying to eat alongside the beef. It had a generous amount of mushrooms and bamboo shoots as well which brought the whole dish together. Lastly, the sweet and pungent shrimp was my favorite dish. The breading was so perfectly crispy, yet coated in the sauce well. The flavor of the shrimp itself was sweet, spicy, and tangy. It is garnished with szechuan pepper flakes, but it isn't too spicy at all. Overall, I'd definitely return. The service is good, I'm not sure what happened for the food to take so long this visit , but it was the first time I'd experienced this in the few times I've been here. Not bad, not great. The best dishes from this experience were the honey walnut shrimp and the braised string beans. Even then, the shrimp was too heavily salted. I felt that the scallops were also too salty. Unfortunately, the Panda Beef and Phoenix Chicken (orange chicken with broccoli) was comprised of mostly crumbled deep fried batter. The sauce was enjoyable, but left me wanting a better meat to batter ratio. The Phoenix Chicken we ordered was family size, but only came with several pieces of broccoli. I anticipated more broccoli according to the menu description. Service was absolutely spectacular from start to finish. The hosts and servers were all so friendly and welcoming. Not feeling rushed whatsoever. Our server definitely took the time to take care of us, from pouring our soup bowls for us to packing up our food in takeout boxes. Really nice interior. There are nice decorations all around and the sound of silverware and plate clanging makes for an authentic Chinese restaurant experience. The reason I bring that up is because of the obvious connection to Panda Express, which is usually unfairly judged as an "Americanized" place. I love Panda Express and was looking to see what this different concept had to offer. The wait was decent. They kept saying how they weren't busy but I felt like the wait seemed a bit long, but they were nice and accommodating. At one point they almost gave us the wrong meal but then took it back, and they were really efficient about it. We ordered the Orange Chicken, the Assorted Fried Rice and Chicken Upside Down Crispy Noodles. The orange chicken was really tangy and sour. Super good. It also had baby carrots, which were a nice refreshing bite. The Fried Rice was my favorite, and the rice was fluffy and not too greasy. The Upside Noodles were okay. I thought they could've had a bit more flavor, but the vegetables were super crisp along with the noodles. Altogether the meal was fantastic, and I especially enjoyed the fortune cookies dipped in white chocolate. Really pleasant end to the meal. 5-Stars here. There are so many Chinese Restaurants I've been to in OC but this is the BEST - best food and best service. Even though they've been in business for years - the place still looks so new, so clean & feels upscale compared to other Chinese restaurants (definitely NOT a 'hole-in-the-wall' type establishment) and all that combined just makes the food taste even better than it already is - TOP NOTCH. Friends took me here for my Birthday and the entire staff was so nice, welcoming & friendly. This place has been around since I was a kid and today was my first time ever coming here. This was the original PF Chang before PF Chang. Both being Americanized Chinese food. This place sticking to its American Chinese roots while PF Chang has lumped all Asian cultures together thinking rhat all of Asia has one amalgamated flavor... Anyways Panda Inn is what Panda Express was before it became Panda express. Owned by the same family. Alot of the express menu items are offered here as well slightly tuned up and with table service. The decor is like something from the 90's but not to bad. It's quaint, the wait staff looks like they've been around a long time and the service is much better than most authentic Chinese restaurants. Prices are very fair. I don't think that I would go out of my way to come back. But I also wouldn't avoid it. 3.7 mostly for yhe service. read more

This was my second time eating at Panda Inn, and it was great like always. The food is consistently delicious, flavorful, and served fresh. We always stop by on our way back home to San Diego, and it never disappoints. We came during the dinner rush, and everything still came out hot, fast, and well-prepared. Sweet & Aromatic Shrimp (plump & addicting), Pan Fried Noodles (choice of meat, vegetables & beefy tasting sauce), Won Ton Soup, & Lemon Chicken (breaded with a bright citrus kicker). Of course it depends on what you order & what everyone considers a serving but we usually get three entrees to share & each plate is enough for two. We even have enough left to take home.
