Pane Bianco has great sandwiches. The sandwiches are definitely the signature here so if you want pizza you should go to Pizzeria Bianco. The sandwich bread is made fresh in their pizza ovens and the texture is amazing - almost like a mix between bread and pizza crust. The sandwiches are simple, but the ingredients are extremely fresh. My favorite is the prosciutto with the house made mozzarella and basil. I wish you could pick the side that comes with the sandwich and it is a bit pricey so that's why it lost a star. Food came out pretty fast, good lunch size portions, and very tasty. Maybe a little expensive for lunch, but worth the splurge every now and then. Pane Bianco has been on my list for quite some time now and I was able to finally give them a try during lunch the other day. There were some highs and lows. The high was the mozzarella sandwich! Wow! Probably the best caprese type sandwich I've ever had! It tasted like a super fresh bruschetta on a nice warm focaccia bread. Very flavorful and would definitely order again. However I also ordered the Italian combo sandwich and this sandwich was not very impressive. The meats tasted a little funky and the giardiniera was a little odd tasting. The dices of carrots were super big and didn't add anything good to the sandwich. One of the bigger disappointments was the square pepperoni slice of pizza. It looked really good in the display case but was very disappointing when I actually got it. The sauce was too thick, the cheese wasn't very melty, pepperonis weren't good and the dough wasn't crispy. I had higher expectations considering this started from pizzeria Bianco. Today met a friend at Pane Bianco for lunch and ordered the Porchetta sandwich. The "lemon mayo" was SOO strong, abundant and overpowering it made the sandwich inedible. The porchetta itself was somewhat tasty but had pieces of fat that I had to spit into a napkin. While Chris's pizzas downtown are good, this place seemed forced, or better, an afterthought not tended to. It's called Pane for a reason. The bread here is really good. However, the fillings are a different story. We started by sharing their daily special tomato bread with cheese. The bread was good but the toppings were flavorless. I had the Italian combo sandwich. Great crusty bread but lacking moisture. Almost zero giardiniera. It would have been better presented as charcuterie with EVOO. My wife had the prosciutto and homemade mozz on focaccia. Prosciutto was cut too thick and was hard to bite through. I honestly struggled with leaving a review here. Because let's be honest does a Chris Bianco establishment need a review? Ok, so kind of and I'll tell you why. Everyone knows the pizza is good. Yeah if you get a red NY slice it's going to be awesome. Here's what no one really talks about. This is the BEST calzone I've ever had in my life. The crust, the dollop of sauce and parm down the middle, it's honestly perfection. The parking is easy and the inside is a vibe. Had a chance to meet Marco Bianco, Chris' brother. Such a cool dude. He made my mom and I laugh and we chatted about NY. I have one negative thing to say, which isn't really negative but it's the only thing that makes this 4 stars instead of 5. The staff has little urgency. What I mean by this is it's busy here. There will be 3 tables that are dirty while you're waiting for a table. The staff will tell you to hold on. Then slowly move about the place, bringing menus to people sitting, taking orders, bringing people food and they do this while they could easily sort of do it in a much smoother process. It's my only gripe. Everything else is perfect. Fix that, it's 5 stars. read more

My last meal in Phoenix and I decided on something not too heavy or filling. I thought a nice little cafe would hit the spot. I had wanted to try the mozzarella sandwich. My first impressions it were good in the sense that the bread, cheese, and all the rest of the ingredients melded together perfectly. I must say that by the time I got to the second half the sandwich, the initial impact and flavor of the sandwich had then worn out it's welcome. I think it's due to the cheese subbing in for the main flavor when usually cheeses function the complement the meat, but in this sandwich it's expected to stand on its own. Though it wasn't mind blowing, definitely a solid dish. It would be cool if they offered a side instead of a second half to change up the favor profile.
