This store had a fairly large sit down area to enjoy your order and wonderful smells from the oven but we choose to eat outdoors at a nearby park. Covid. Low energy vibe here so be patient and you'll be rewarded with some fine fare. We got five sandwiches from here that were excellent. The Italian combo that I had was made on a killer house made hard roll bun with soppressata, mortadella, coppa, provolone and their version of Chicago's giardinera. The ingredients in this sandwich were plentiful and along with the bread it all blended well together without anything overpowering anything else. A lot of places that make their own bread sometimes choose to make the bread the 'feature' of the sandwich but here, it was all good. All the orders came with a side of a spicy bean salad that I wish I had ordered a quart of...it was great! I had the pizza from their sister restaurant at Pizzeria Bianco so that'll be in another review. I took a star away because of the value. So if you've heard of pizzeria bianco you've probably heard of pane bianco. A smaller more casual location with sandwiches and salads, this is not to be overshadowed by their pizzeria. The quality and attention to detail is still there, with equally awesome offerings. They still bake all their bread in house and source local ingredients. You can tell they put their heart and soul into this just like they have everywhere else. Chris bianco really knows what he's doing here, and pane bianco is a great expression of that. read more

I was in the neighborhood, so I popped into Pane Bianco to grab lunch. Pane Bianco shares a building with Lux. There's a (too) small parking lot in the back as well as additional two hour parking on the street. Pane Bianco offers a counter for take out orders (use the entrance to the right) as well as dining in house. There's a small patio with a handful of tables if you want to eat your take out outside. I got a fresh mozzarella sandwich and the vanilla bean rice pudding. There's no reason why a piece of slightly tough but perfectly chewy wood-fired bread with homemade mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, and basil should be so good. It took me back to living in Italy 20 years ago where simple food manages to be amazing based solely on the quality of the ingredients. I don't think of rice pudding as Italian, but it was also stellar--rich and creamy. There are zero pandemic measures in place, but ordering quickly inside and waiting outside for my order (someone brought it out) felt low-risk. read more

I've always wanted to eat at Pizzeria Bianco, but I'm just never near there with a few hours to spare, and it's kinda getting away from me. Well, now that I've had a quick lunch at Pane Bianco, it's risen to the top of my PHX foodie bucket list! I wasn't even seeking it out, I was just popping into the coffeeshop next door, and I popped up a Yelp search for nearby places to eat, and I saw it, scrolled by, then scrolled back with a "Wait, Bianco like THAT Bianco?" It's only open for lunch, from 11-3, and you walk in to a building that is split down the middle - half lunch counter and kitchen with chefs flinging fresh bread out of a roaring orange wood-fired oven with baking paddles, and half a quirkily decorated dining room. My sandwich was delicious - the sandwich of Tuesday, Prosciutto Cotto w/ fig jam and Raschera cheese on an adorable, round, squat little bread dome. The bread was crispy and toasted from the high temp, pungent with yeasty, warm goodness, the fillings a sweet/salty lunch bomb that was gone way too soon. Not to fear - I had the insight to order a slice of square pizza from the guy who wrote the literal book on pizza (though it's like $15 cheaper on Amazon than in store). Another flavor bomb with a fresh tomato sauce mixed with chees-ey, greasy goodness - how can so few ingredients make such a perfect bite? How to describe the goodness of Chris Bianco's crusts? He won a James Beard award again so I'll say what lots of food writers have already said: his sandwich and pizza crusts are flavorful and delicious. I am a regular at Pane Bianco and usually stick with the Chicken salad sandwich, but I've tried just about everything on the menu and haven't found anything that isn't good! I am a tea snob and the green tea is exceptional. The black tea can't touch it at the time of writing. Recently Pane Bianco partnered with Chaconne patisserie and the chocolate chip cookies are amazing. If that doesn't do it for you - Lux coffee shop is next door and they always have a ton of excellent baked sweets. A few notes - if you are dairy free there are options. If you are gluten free and dairy free it becomes more difficult at Pane Bianco. read more

What follows goes against everything holy, everything everyone who grew up eating real pizza that we often everyday ordered by the slice experienced & hold dear. When & since I last spent real time in Arizona in 2010 & 2011, I had read & seriously doubted the publications that have declared Phoenix's Pizzeria Bianco the best pizza in the U.S. of A. Being in Phoenix & Scottsdale again for a while now, even though I always"no way"ed the hype, I have kind of wanted to try Bianco. Bianco has 5 locations, with possibly different experiences in each. I was on my way to South Phoenix to buy chinese herbs for my shoulder and spied Pane Bianco set back in a small masonry structure. I circled around & pulled in. It looked cool. I was so hungry my stomach thought my throat had been cut, so this accident was opportune. Walking in to the Take Out side you have the register, and a lower cooking area, with three men and a helper working the floor and the one big oven. There is a sit down section on one side of the wall, and it has a separate entrance as well. On the take out side, the menu on the big black chalkboards showed mostly sandwiches & calzones, but there are three Pizza Taglios, at 4.50 to 5.50 a slice. One was with fresh mozz, sausage & onions, another with pepperoni, and another just sauce & cheese. One customer was ahead of me to order. But I swear 6 or 7 minutes passed before the guy took that order, & then got around to me. Since I had thought Bianco only did whole pies, I asked the college age kid if they sold pies or by the slice. This was when I got my first surprise. He responded that they sold by the slice, then surprisingly, told me that they were out of pepperoni, had 4 sausage & 3 cheese left. I ordered one of each Then I stepped back a few feet and waited. A couple had waited behind me, when they placed their order the woman told the guy, we might as well wait outside, this will take 15 - 20 minutes. And I'm waiting. People are ordering, when people ask for pizza the kid tells em how many of each they have. . Then, the pizza is gone, only sandwiches & calzone left for new orderees.. It's only 2:30or 3. It actually took every bit of 20 minutes for me to get my order. Two slices of pizza, 20 minutes. Out of nowhere a mid twenties waitress calls my name & says your pizza is ready. I look & by an old fashioned tight twine handle she is holding up a smallish narrow brown paper shopping bag with Pane Bianco emblazoned on it. My pizza is in a small narrow shopping bag. Now this is unexplored territory, like an invasion of alien pizza makers & alien pizza eaters took place. I took it, said Thank you ( she responded "Thank you man!") & I took off to get outside & see what the hell my pizza in the small shopping bag looked like. I got outside & removed one of two squarish brown packages that more likely held a sandwich. I walked to the car, opened one package, and there was a not hot, just a little more than warm "square" piece of pizza. Sicilian. Possibly they reheated it to normal temps, then let it cool off to wrapping temperature. Since it was wrapped in kinda wax kinda butcher paper & then wrapped in brown paper there was no doubt it couldn't be hot. Or the cheese & sauce would be slipping & sliding all over the place... Now since this was pizza from some other plane of existence, I realized this was a historical discovery & took photos of all of the evidence before I even opened one of the packages or took a bite. Photos of the bag with both slices in it, photos of the wrapped pizza, photos of the squares before I bit in. The buffalo mozz & sausage square with carmelized onions was rather damn good to excellent, but did not knock me over. Had it been actually hot it might have. The bone, the handle of the crust was delish, the crust was thick but airy, yet, not soft.. But it did not have the flavor of a truly great Sal's or Luigi's (Brooklyn) square crust. Still I wasn't knocked out. The regular square, tomato sauce & cheese,well, by now, it was cool and congealed. There was something about this one that put me off. Again, maybe hot like it should have been it would be good or great. I can say I didn't even really want to finish it, but I labored through & did. The crust of this one was possibly the airiest solid crunchy crust on earth. But again, this slice I would not want again. Truthfully, I would not go out of my way for this kind of pizza.experience. I was hoping to love it, but, it was a let down. But I am still curious enough to go to one of the other Bianco locations, most likely the original, and hope that if I get a pie and it is served hot, it might be thrilled & delighted read more

I had heard so many good things about this spot, but never got around to going or other times I always showed up after they were closed but NOT TODAY. This spot is... so dope. At first glance it's has a farmhouse rustic look with old beat up furniture as you can see and its simple looking. (Part of the aesthetic) but its part of the experience! They got great selections on tap,and a limited menu because they've perfected everything. Their pizza is cheezy and their tomato sauce it TO DIE for . It's homemade and tastes like they just made the sauce with fresh tomatoes. Their calzone is so juicy and stuffed with ricotta cheese. Randomly drove by Pane Blanco and decided to grab lunch and I am very happy we did. Once you walk in you are immediately captured by the smell of fresh pizza being made. This lead to my decision in ordering a slice of pizza and a beer on the side. The pizza was amazing and had the most perfect crust. Also, pizza and beer is such a perfect combination. As we were chowing down on our lunch we realized that the owner/chef, Mr. Chris Blanco himself was actually present. I generally have a good experience there but today I ordered take out and was given the wrong salad. I ordered the simple green salad and got something that was smothered in blue cheese. I'm lactose intolerant so I was not able to eat it. I tried to call to get a refund several time and no one answers their phone. Pane Bianco (PB) is the off-shoot restaurant of the popular local Pizzeria Bianco franchise. However, instead of dealing with just pie, PB is more of a Bakery/Sandwich spot that also just happens to serve up Pizza. We came here as a recommendation from my sister after a full morning at the Heard, and happened to luck out and found some parking in their tiny, shared lot. Their menu is very limited (for lunch anyways) and consists of a few sandwiches, salads and a pizza of the day. I ordered the Monday sandwich of the day and a pizza for my son. Monday Sandwich of the Day: Prosciutto, Mozzarella and Basil- The sandwich came out on their signature Focaccia bread and all the ingredients tasted OK together, but nothing really blew my socks off. The Bread, Prosciutto and Mozz were all pretty dry and the combination of them really left me wanting. I'm not sure if I was supposed to top it with the small spoonful of Coleslaw that came with it for moisture, but I was not impressed with that either. The slaw was a bit wilty and overly-seasoned. The sandwich itself was not huge, and hardly worth the almost $15 price tag. 2* Pizza- I think the Pizza of the day was some kind of Potato nonsense, but I was able to get them to sub it out for some Salami. They charged me almost the exact price of the pie as the substitution and doubled its price for just a few slices of meat?! The Pizza itself was just OK, my 5-year-old only ate a few bites and didn't want anymore. Which was a good thing because I was still starving after that underwhelming sandwich! 3* Service & Ambiance- Service was spotty, and not very efficient. I felt like they were preparing for something else and the lunch patrons were just being a bother to them―even though there were only like eight people in there! The interior of PB was my favorite thing about the place: huge, thick-legged wooden tables, "old" paintings on the walls, candelabras and sunlight shining in through the high windows really made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Service 2* Ambiance 5* Value- PB is to value what big-haired ego-maniacs are to politics, that is to say, they don't belong together. Paying almost $30 for an adult and a child for a modest, uninspiring meal is not my idea of anything I'd like to do again. 1* I'm still planning on visiting a Pizzeria Bianco on one of my AZ visits, but as far as PB is concerned I doubt I'll be back. Love is in the air... yes, Valentines Day is around the corner, but the love is really about the spontaneous lunch date I had the other day at Pane Bianco. For those wondering, my date was with my husband. We left the baby at home (with a babysitter of course), and went out for a few hours to enjoy the beautiful weather. After a stop at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market, we were both hungry and finally agreed to head to PB. I hate to admit this, but it was my first time there... I had high expectations and PB delivered! We sat outside on the picnic tables instead of taking advantage of the full service inside. We shared a tomato mozzarella sandwich and a tuna salad. Both were delicious! Melt in your mouth delicious! We also brought home their market sandwich for our babysitter (aka my mother-in-law). It was a vegetable sandwich which she said was delicious. I'd heard the menu was limited, which it was, but there was still plenty to choose from. I can't wait to return for lunch or dinner... and perhaps to take advantage of their private little room in back. Anyone up for a little dinner party at Pane Bianco?! read more

The pizzas, bread, and dessert we had from Pane Bianco by Chris Bianco were all amazing. The Wiseguy Pizza $18.00 was as good as I remember it. I realize now that I'm not a huge fan of pre-cooked, wood roasted, or caramelized onions on pizza because it's too sweet for me on pizza, but that's just me. The mozzarella and sausage were still amazing. The pizza crust is one of my favorite crusts out there. It's not too chewy, easy to bite through, and is perfectly cooked in the oven. I appreciated the black pepper grinders at every table. I don't typically order Margherita Pizza $15.00 because they don't have meat. But I knew that all the ingredients would be top notch, so I went for it. The sauce was very tasty. It tasted like pure pureed tomatoes. The mozzarella was perfectly salted. The basil amount was okay, but I need triple the amount of basil leaves. Dessert was the Tres Leches cake $7.00. It's probably the best tres leches cake I've ever had. It was slightly cold, which for me is the perfect serving temperature. If I remember correctly, the two different creams - one was a vanilla bean crème anglaise type sauce and the other was like a whipped cream on top. The real vanilla beans made a huge difference. The candied nut topping was also extremely tasty. Overall, it wasn't too sweet which I appreciated. I need to make a similar candied nut topping when I make the cake at home in the future. Lastly, the complementary bread was so freaking good. I would probably ask for butter instead of olive oil in the future, because butter. I purchased several loaves of bread (baked in the morning) and a can of the chopped tomatoes to take home. I last visited Pizzeria Bianco about ten years ago. The line was ridiculous and it was cramped and loud inside. The pizza was still amazing though. A good friend told me about Pane Bianco years ago, and I was finally in the area during their business hours. There was no line, and the restaurant was pretty spacious. Yay dinner!!! It's no big secret that I'm a huge fan of Chris Bianco. His simple honest to goodness approach to food is not only inspiring but down right delicious. If you're one of his fans who don't mind waiting 4 hours for one of his amazing pies at Pizzeria Bianco, then you're in for a real treat. While they don't serve pizza, one of my all time favorites, Pane Bianco is now serving dinner and no serious wait either! In addition to ordering one of their famous sandwiches, you can expect an ever changing menu of rustic Italian inspired plates. If you've been to Pane you know the drill, go in, order at the counter then either decide to take your score home, or eat there on one of the communal outdoor tables. No wine or beer is served at this time but there is talk of Pane expanding into the Lux Coffee space next door which will eventually offer inside seating and hopefully wine by the glass. If all of this goes down, Lux will simply move to the adjacent building also getting a larger space. For me Bianco's food just screams for a glassed of red wine. Ordering the Crespelle ($12) had me really excited due to the unique nature of the dish itself. Basically an Italian crepe made the garbanzo bean flour; it's filled with luscious ricotta cheese, hints of spinach then bathed in a slightly sweet tomato sauce. It was clear that after the first bite I was in love with this dish, I simply couldn't stop though glares from my dining companions made me to relinquish the plate. I can't sing enough praises for Biancos Housemade Mozzarella ($8), thick slabs of hand pulled cheese is paired with fresh tomatoes, a few leaves of basil, olive oil and a sprinkling of salt, that's it. The resulting texture and flavor is so toothsome and fresh that I've yet to have another as good. The salad comes with bread which I put to good use soaking up every drop of the salads milky elixir. Served on house made flat bread, the Soppressata with Aged Provolone ($8) which also comes topped with a healthy shave of Parmesan cheese and slices of roasted onion. The pungency from the provolone is a nice compliment to the pork-tastic slices of soppressata. Bianco is dedicated to local purveyors and for good reason, they make some of the best Phoenix has to offer. Take the Sausage with beluga lentils and polenta ($10) for instance. The sausage comes from our very own Schreiner's Fine Sausages over on 7th Street and let me just say, this plump link had just the right amount of meaty well seasoned punch to compliment the hearty lentils and super moist polenta cake. If you're more of a lighter eater, I'd suggest the highly flavorful Roasted Seasonal Vegetables ($5). On my last visit the pan was filled with long thick spears of asparagus, sweet potato, cabbage, radishes, broccolini and cloves of garlic. Grab a loaf of their chewy bread ($3) and you have yourself a vegetarian option even a meat eater like me would love. Now if they added pizza to the menu, my life would be complete. read more

Another home run from Chris Bianco! The farm to table ingredients are a staple at any Bianco restaurant and Pane Bianco is no exception! Arrived at 2pm and they had ran out of half the menu, all of the pizzas were out, which was a bummer since I wanted to try one pizza and one sandwhich, but that is how good and fresh these ingredients are. We had the prosciutto San Danielle and the Soppressata and they were amazing. The San Danielle is a bit lighter due to the mozzarella versus the provolone in the Soppressata. The staff was amazing, I even met Chris Biancos brother Marco and he is such a delightful person. Jesus one of the chefs was also very delightful. Chris knows how to hire great people, any Bianco/Tratto employee have been amazing. You most likely have to wait at these restaurants but it is so worth it! read more

We've been coming here for years and it's not new news but over the last year the menu here has changed. For Years I used to order the tuna salad because the sandwiches are too filling for me for lunch and it's gone now so I tried the chicken salad. The chicken salad was made with white meat chicken that was cooked well and was still was moist and tossed with a whole grain mustard lots of apple and seemed sweetened with something. The greens underneath were very fresh and were garnished with a fresh ripe local tomato and it came with a piece of country bread. The salad was good and an above average salad but it was sweet. My husband always used to enjoy the sopressata sandwich and that one has also been updated to be made with roasted onions instead of the fire roasted red pepper. It's still a good sandwich but it used to be great with the red pepper mostly because of the natural juices the pepper added to the sandwich improved the flavor and the meaty texture of the pepper that made it easier to eat. The onions are good but not the same but it was nice that it came with a small side of apple slaw. They also don't give out the candies anymore with your meal. The bread is special from here as it's made with local heirloom grains. read more

I come in pretty regularly and love the food, but today's interaction left me scratching my head and worried. I asked for a calzone with no spinach (I'm unfortunately allergic, though I love spinach). In the past I've been told I can order the calzone without spinach, and I have, and it was delicious. Today I was told the spinach is already mixed into the ricotta, so it can't be customized. Is this always true? Have I been unknowingly eating something I'm allergic to? And if so, how did you manage to cook spinach in such a way that it doesn't make my nose and throat close up and my mouth burn?
