But they also have fancied up sandwiches such as Nutella and Marscapone or my personal favorite, Prosciutto & Genoa Salami. They have three different tiers of sandwich prices, depending on whats in the sandwich. Once you pick your sandwich you get to pick your in-house made sauce. I typically go with the Aioli. The bread is always the perfect crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. They have a a couple of housemate sides. I have only had the coleslaw, but it was the perfect creamy texture, I highly recommend! They also make breakfast sandwiches. I dont work in downtown, but I came to visit a friend in the area n she recommended going to pane pane for lunch. It was super yumms! First of all, their sandwiches are just straight up super cheap n loaded with veggies n meat. The first time, i tried their roast beef and wasabi coleslaw - very tasty. I really liked the wasabi kick. The 2nd time i stopped by pane pane, i tried their breakfast sandwich and it was just as good as their lunch sandwiches. their egg isn't all dry and crumbly like other breakfast sandwiches - it's moist, full, and hearty. My friend was also excited about her sandwich because they had gluten free bread - i guess it's not really common in this area. it was a nice surprise since she wasn't expecting to eat a sandwich. I visited Pane Pane again this week because I refuse to base my opinion on the first week a place is open - it just ain't right. My entire experience was different. The staff instantly greeted me - so so friendly - and explained how the menu worked and their two sandwich sizes - large and small. Feels like the small needs another inch or two to compete with neighboring sandwich shop's "small/regular" sizes but you could always get some sides/snacks or just go big - the large is hefty. They helped me make my sandwich decision and guess what - you can make substitutions now - go crazy! So cool to see a place make improvements that fast. Pane Pane is a small, cute sandwich shop. It wasn't crowded around 12:00 pm, which is a fabulous find when you're hunting for good food in downtown Seattle. The staff is very friendly, and they were quick to prepare my order. I tried the Artichoke and Hummus sandwich. It comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, black olives. I also added the balsamic vinaigrette. The bread was delicious, and all my sandwich ingredients were fresh and crisp. The hummus was good, but a little bland. I'm surprised to say that the sauce didn't add anything extra... I couldn't taste or see the balsamic vinaigrette on my sandwich. I still loved the combination of veggies, and the overall taste was good. I will make it a priority return and try some of their more exciting sandwiches (Nutella and Marscapone!). read more

I always pass by this place and finally got to check it out today. I immediately noticed that they had a good drink selection. No alcohol, but they had various Odwalla juice bottles, Red Bull, Coke products, among others. They offer lots of different sandwiches. I ordered #53. I didn't know Mascarpone was cheese (and I am trying to avoid dairy these days) but it was good. It's like... fluffier cream cheese basically. Bread was good too. The only problem was I ordered mine without onions but it came with lots of it =( It was easy enough to remove them myself. The place was kind of loud. Just got back from eating lunch at Pane squared, so thought I'd jot a few notes while the Bacon & Turkey Breast sandwich is digesting. The price for the sammy's shocked me. I've worked downtown Seattle for too many years now, and have been conditioned to expect a "gourmet" sandwich to cost between $8 - $10. So spying a turkey and red pepper sandwich for $2.75 led me to think "what's the catch"? I asked for some help since it was my first time here, the guy asked me what type of meat I liked (I said turkey) but didn't offer any concrete suggestions. I went with the aforementioned Bacon & Turkey for $4.75 and chips. The sandwich was ready, and the reality of why it was only $4.75 hit me. The thing was small, between 4 - 5" (that's what she said?). The menu was a bit confusing in that I could have ordered a larger size, but it's labeled "ADD MORE FOR $x.xx" Add more what? sandwich, cheese, toppings, bacon! Just sayin it could have been more clear. That said, the sandwich was pretty good! I found the best part to be the fresh baked bread - crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. All the supporting ingredients matched well with the turkey and bacon headliners. My coworker had the Roast Beef & Wasabi Coleslaw and enjoyed his five bites as well. One day upon lunch strolling guided me here. I decided to go for an old fav: Turkey Swiss. You have choices for sauce and I was feeling the balsamic vinaigrette... Verdict: It was good, fresh and... good. I didn't get much baslamic at all and lettuce probably filled 1/3 to 1/2 of it. I tasted pretty mild flavor with noticeable. for lack of a better term, blandness. Service felt rather standard and friendly. I walked past this place countless times, and never really noticed it. I've never noticed a large line or anything. However a friend suggested it for lunch recently, and boy am I glad! I've only been there the one time, but I'm planning to return! We both got the teriyaki meatball bahn mi. OMG. They were delicious! And huge! I want to try all of the others, but I'm not sure I'll be able to go there and not order that teriyaki meatball bahn mi! I have been a devote of Pane Pane for the last many months. The offer a nice selection of sandwiches, but what has really set them apart from the ordinary was their bread. A month ago, they would have been a five-star offering at the pinnacle of the local sandwich paradigm. But now, they are little more than a niche Subway (the operative here is "little") endeavoring to pitch a fair banh me. All I can say is: bring the good bread back! I've been enjoying this place for the majority of the past year. Their tuna sandwich is great, as is their meatball sub. Last week, I overheard somebody ordering the 'turkeybacon and avocado' sandwich. I asked the cashier, is it really turkeybacon, and not just turkey with bacon? She said yes, it actually is turkeybacon. I said, 'nice! Mental note for next time' Well, today was next time. I ordered the turkeybacon. I even double-checked with the itmaking the sandwich, saying, 'you use actual turkeybacon in this?'. He said 'yep, turkeybacon & avocado.' So I get to the office with my sandwich, open it up, and voila: TURKEY + BACON. I don't eat pork, and didn't have time to return before my meeting. Yay. Heads up! New menu as of this week! While ordinarily that's a good thing, here it's not! The three things that set this sandwich place apart from a lot of the other downtown options were (1) menu variety, (2) cheap prices, and (3) awesome spreads. Unfortunately, as of this week, the menu choices are about 50% fewer and the prices are all up. Two strikes! The good news is, standouts such as Teriyaki Meatball Banh Mi are still there, but a lot of others were axed. As an example, there used to be about 6 turkey sandwiches, now there's 1. Prices were all hiked $1-2 or so, and there's now only one size (8" -- no more "short" option). On a positive note, they've expanded the variety of special spreads available (sriracha mayo, for example!) ... but for me, that's not enough to balance the higher prices and smaller selection. Ouch. Did Yelp steer me wrong? In this case it absolutely did. The roast beef and wasabi coleslaw sandwich spoke to me and it was one of those situations that I tried to read the entire menu board but my eye kept reverting back to that particular sandwich. It sounds tasty enough but what you get for just over $15.00 after tip, (it was a combo with soup), leaves you feeling more than a bit cheated. The only redeeming factor for this sandwich was the bread, which was quite tasty. Other than that, the menu board should more appropriately read: coleslaw sandwich with a slice of roast beef. Seriously though, 95% slaw with a sad, sad, sad little layer of roast beef. Halfway through I scraped off the remaining slaw and the skimpiness of the meat became that much more apparent while I could have filled one of the containers used for sides to the brim. The soup was a bit sweet for my liking and perhaps the sour taste left in my mouth from the sandwich left me feeling that much more critical. Better luck next time, Pane Pane. read more

I just love this place. Their sandwiches are JUST right, every time. My coworker said it best: they have a sort of restraint that has become so rare - you don't need all that stuff to make a great sandwich! Their bread is scrumptious, and freshly made. I love the large ones for ravenous days, and the smalls are just right to get me through a draggy afternoon :) My personal favorite: the PB&J. My coworker is quite partial to the Tuna. The staff here is lovely, too! Always a greeting and smile. I've never had to wait long to order, or for my sandwich. ALSO, do not pass up on the cookies, because holy delicious! Sandwiches were bomb as hell. They gave me three sauces, a chipotle, a garlic aoli, and a garlic oil, and all three of them were very tasty. My friend got a Peanut Butter & Jelly & Bacon & Syrup and (even though she's from Vermont and it wasn't technically Maple Syrup) she said it was incredible, and that we should begin making them. I've used their online ordering service several times now and I must say it's pretty darn good. I got bored one day/tired of the same old, same old DT Seattle lunch rush. Me, too scared to try anything too out of the way (in fear I may not like it) and too lazy to walk any further than 2 blocks for lunch, decided sandwiches were the way to go. I mean, how could you mess up simple sandwiches right? Little did I know, this is sandwich HAVEN here. any kind of sandwich you could possibly want and things other places try to do, but fail miserably in comparison: give you options! From gluten free bread, to salad options on every sandwich to whatever kind of sauce you want, to custom making your sandwich to any which weird way you like. This place is up there in my review for that alone. On top of all this, 90% of these sandwhiches are under $10, more than half are under $7-8 range. We stopped in right mid-morning (around 10:30am) and we were a little confused by the blaring EDM that you could hear around the corner. But to each his own, right? They changed their bread!!!! Ever since I discovered this little gem I have enjoyed coming here for lunch for their famous meatball bahn mi sandwich. What makes a bahn mi sandwich deliciously irresistible is the bread. I went in today to satisfy my pregnancy cravings and to my disappointment the first thing I noticed was the difference in bread. I could immediately tell as I held my sandwich back to the office it was softer than usual. Apparently I learned from my co worker who later picked up a sandwich and asked the female cashier, is they are trying new bread and sadly this was a failure for me. No more crunch........just a typical soft hoagie roll. The roll became soggy quickly and did not hold the contents as well as the former baguette did. Convenient spot to grab a quick breakfast or lunchtime sandwich downtown. I like the option to order online. They were very speedy and my online order was awaiting me within about 5 minutes of me placing it. The smaller sized sandwich seems plenty large to me (unless I was given the large size by mistake!), and is a great value. There is a lot of variety on the menu, and they use tasty breads and fresh ingredients. Also plenty of combo options to add coleslaw, soup or chips to your order. I've also gotten breakfast sandwiches here in the past and they offer an interesting array of sauce options. Here I am adding a star for the service. Everyone there is very friendly, and when I placed my online order and forgot to pick up my fountain drink (I had ordered a combo), one of their employees chased me a full city block to make sure I came back to get it. He was inquiring about my bad experience in earnest, looking for opportunities to examine and repair the issues with his business, and he was more than apologetic. Young invited my input and was very genuine in our dialogue about finding ways to better connect with and serve his customers. It is also important to note that Young is also invested in trying to grow his staff and give his team the opportunity to be successful. Young is an owner that visibly cares about the experience that his customers have when they come into the store. Any business owner that is willing to open up an honest conversation about how to improve their business with a customer is alright in my book. Pane Pane is a Seattle sandwich shop worth supporting and I look forward to taking my business back there in the future. Went in for a sandwich. Now I eat things plain and dry. And I know that a lot of sandwich shops cater to the fancier side. I understand that. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich. #31 on the menu. I asked for it dry and plain. It was 6" and it was $5.00. When j got said sandwich it was a slice of cheddar folded in half and a slice of ham. "A" slice of each....$5.00.... I walked back in and asked the manager-owner (I honestly didn't clarify which) what's up with this. She was aghast and asked where the rest was to her crew. I felt for a second that this would be rectified. Nope. Her crew explained that I asked for it dry. She assumed I was talking about the lettuce and everything else I asked to not have. When we all came to an understanding she said that this portion was correct. So I asked if she was ok with a slice of each? She said yes. It's all portioned out specifically and this is what you get for $5.00. I was appalled that someone would seriously serve something this pathetic. And that's what I told her. I didn't have time to go stand in line somewhere else. She offered to refund. But time didn't allow and so I walked away with my $5 roll with a semblance of protein. I don't know how to load images. If I figure to out you'll get to see the pic of the sandwich as I left the place. I'm sure that if you eat with more variety than I, I'm sure you will be happy with all the veggies and what not. But as for the poor carnivore. I'll never eat here again and I hope she learns to find a way to respect us more limited consumers. Surprisingly good. Why surprisingly? Because it's a little hole in the wall. Vast array of interesting ingredients (though no avocado, sadly). I had a roast beef with cheddar and bacon and aioli with roasted red pepper spread, tomato and lettuce. Bread very good. Only criticism is too much lettuce but that's easily remedied by telling them to use less. Nice service, quite quick to make my sandwhich. I would recommend the short as the long is HUGE. I was very hungry and the short was fine. I'll be back to try their breakfast sandwhiches which are a bit cheaper and look quite interesting as well. I work right next door to Pane Pane and am so happy that they moved in next to us! I don't usually eat lunch (strange I know), but I occasionally visit Pane Pane for a lunch fix. I always order the Ham and Pesto sandwich made with fresh spinach and feta. I am normally not a feta fan, but this sandwich is magic and totally delicious. The bread is awesome, similar to a bahn mi bun - crisp on the outside and soft inside. Even better, the gal always remembers my order despite my very occasional visits!
