If your looking for fresh ingredients and fresh baked bread for your sand which this is the place to check out. I tried their prosciutto and mascarpone which was absolutely delicious! It looks as though they bake their bread daily, which is probably why the bread was so good crunchy on the outside and soft/chewy inside. The price was excellent too! First time in after a trip through the mud pit that is the USPS station across the street - fantastic... Anyway - I am a sandwich guy - never noticed this joint previously so figured I better jump in and give it a shot. This is certainly not a standard deli or sandwich stop but is very good and I look forward to a return trip. I went a bit out of my standard turkey or pastrami and tried their prosciutto/mascarpone large. First - definitely go with the large - still a decent price and bring the excess home if it's too big but I can't see the small being enough. Bread was great and all of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful - probably won't go back to this choice but that has more to do with my own feelings toward mascarpone but it was still very good. There are some interesting flavor choices here that I am excited to try (curried egg salad) as well as some nice looking sides (wasabi coleslaw) but it will take a few more trips in to review those bad boys. If you work/live downtown - give it a shot. Certainly much more unique than Jimmy Johns or Potbelly and the staff is wonderful and helpful. Grab a meal and head down to the water for lunch. I loved the idea of a mascarpone and something (sundried tomatoes, Nutlla, or fruit jam) sandwich for breakfast, especially as I skipped food and coffee this morning while trying to get the family on the road toward school and work after waking up later than usual. The sandwich, clearly, would have been just fine, with plenty of cheese and plenty of Nutella on a terrific loaf of bread. The problem was that somehow, some article of the three-component sandwich ended up with a hint of onion flavor. Dirty gloves? Dirty spreading knife? Bread sits on a pile of onion slices? For most, I assume this would be unwelcome. For me, someone who finds the taste of raw onion simply unbearable, it ruined breakfast. The coffee . . . does not work for me. Nearly two bucks for 16 ounces of hot vaguely coffee-flavored water, brought to you by a Keurig machine. Guess I've been drinking dark roast for far too long for this stuff to pass as coffee for me. It seems like this is a one-star experience, and it probably was, but the people there are nice and the ingredients are clearly quality. This was just an execution error of carelessness. Even so, I shouldn't pay $8.50 for an onion flavored nutella breakfast sandwich and coffee that simply shouldn't be served in a city with so much great coffee available. read more

Pane Pane is fast, delicious, and super-affordable. It's the most affordable lunch place that I've found in the downtown area that's still good. --Order Sauce-- My first visit wasn't good, because I didn't order sauce. The sandwiches can be very dry if you don't order sauce. One of my favorite sandwiches comes with pesto (yum). The seating isn't very comfortable or abundant, but at this price point, it's a huge win to have seating at all. I recommend Pane Pane to anyone who's looking for a fast and affordable lunch in the downtown area. It's especially good when you're grabbing lunch solo. read more

I had the #44 pastrami and genoa salami with provolone; I chose aioli as my sauce. It was good but what really stood out was the bread. Crispy, crunchy, soft on the inside, like good banh mi bread. My one finicky critique: the spinach was stuffed on the outer side of the sandwich which made it hard to eat as the spinach kept falling out and getting in the way. Would be better if it was placed underneath the meat. I had asked for no onions and the sandwich maker girl asked me if I wanted any substitution for the onion - which I didn't expect would be free, but it was! So they added tomatoes at my request. I appreciated that they asked what substitution I wanted even though all I asked for originally was to remove one ingredient. It's not a sit down place, so order to-go only. Although they do have some seating along the walls, it's more for those people in line or waiting to pick up their food. The space is pretty small so it's an in-and-out operation. Pane Pane is just around the corner from where I work - ideal for grabbing a quick lunch. But even though the ingredients were good-quality and the sandwich was OK, I doubt I'll be going back, thanks to the prices. I went in on a weekday around 1 pm, and there was only one person in front of me. There are only a couple of tiny tables, but since most people seem to be ordering to-go, that's not really a problem. On the advice of other Yelpers, I got the large prosciutto, artichoke and pesto sandwich ($8), and I think large is the right portion size if you're hungry for an actual meal. If you want something light, or you're planning to do a combo with soup or coleslaw, then the small might work for you... but do look at the pics first, because a small is SMALL. The sandwich was fine, if not generous. I wasn't as impressed with the bread as others were, but I agree it's soft and not as mouth-shreddingly crunchy as it looks. There were a few slices of prosciutto and LOTS of spinach on my sandwich; overall, the amount of toppings felt adequate but not more than that. The ingredients tasted fresh and I saw someone prepping stuff while I was ordering. Service was friendly enough and I was in and out of there in under 10 minutes. But an $8 sandwich doesn't strike me as "super cheap," although I guess it becomes a better deal if you add a side and soda for $2. The breakfast sandwiches sound good and are all under $5 (I think there's also a breakfast combo where you can add coffee for $1), so those may be a better value than the lunch fare. Mostly, they're just basic and slightly overpriced sandwiches, but if you're looking for something fast and predictable downtown, Pane Pane could be what you need. read more

As someone who grew up in a family that ran a sandwich shop, I make, eat, sleep and lived the sandwich life for many years. Although I'm not usually picky with my food, I do get picky about my sandwiches because why buy one when I can make something better right? Well anyways, Pane Pane is amazing. I've been here 5 times so far and tried 5 different sandwiches and they were all good. The recipes for their sandwiches are well thought out and the ingredients are fresh. Not only that, the people making the sandwiches also knows how to actually make a sandwich in a way that every bite is a bliss without making a mess. Never once have I felt like I paid too much for my lunch when I go here: Props to you guys. This place is fantastic. I sometimes get a sandwich here when I miss the #70 transfer and I have a few minutes to spare, which kind of gives you an idea of how fast they can make food happen. The people are super kind and considerate and the food is great! I'm particularly into the wasabi cole slaw they put on some of their sandwiches. Had 10min to kill before my bus arrives and this shop happens to be next to the bus stop. I wasn't even hungry, but figured I might as well pick up a sandwich for work. Very rare for seattle to have house made bread that has it's own take but Pane Pane is on it! Bread's crust has a thin but delicious crust that isnt rough on the gums like other French breads might be. The meat is generous and the price is great! $9.90 for the meatball bahn mi after tax! I love this place. Every time I visit, the lady who runs the register is super friendly and cheerful. Theor bread is a delicious, light baguette, and while it does drop a number of crumbs, the bread has always been perfectly fresh for me. I tend to order the genoa/pepperoni/pesto, prosciutto/genoa or the roast beef/pepper jack. All of these come with spicy cherry peppers, which I think make the sandwich. I find that a small is sufficient for my lunchtime appetite. If you take their punch card, you get a free cookie with every $20 you spend, which is easy to do. They also have a handy online ordering system. It's really intuitive and can remember your favorite orders. I order and by the time I have walked the 2 blocks from my office, the sandwich is waiting in a paper bag with my name on it. Once, when my niece visited my office for her 4th birthday, I ordered a PB&J for her and mentioned it in the special instructions section of the order form. When I picked up the sandwich there was a happy birthday message written all over the wrapper, including colored hearts. My niece loved it. And I got a couple bites: it was a hell of a PB&J! One final bit of praise: the other day I ordered online before getting pulled into a meeting where lunch was served. I got a text message from someone at Pane Pane reminding me that the sandwich was there. When I asked if they could just put it in the fridge so I could pick it up the next day, they said they'd just eat it for their lunch and give me the same order for free the next day. Oh my God. I accidentally stumbled in here on opening day for a sandwich because it smelled good and the prices are beyond reasonable. Some points: *Friendly staff So sweet! They greeted me immediately and were really helpful * Divine sandwiches I got the Coppa, Genoa Salami and Pesto sandwich and I'm beyond pleased. I devoured that thing *GREAT customer service Their soda machine wasn't working properly, so they allowed me to take a bottled beverage and as I was eating brought me these LOVELY waffle cone and nutella cookie thing that I'm super please with. This will be our new go to sandwich shop. I have had the Bahn Mi meatball sandwich that is great. The meatballs are warm and spicy and the vegetables were cool and crisp, the bread is perfect slightly crispy on the outside and soft inside........my colleague had the turkey and bacon and said it was great as well. I also had a cup of the tomato basil bisque it was good as well. Lots of interesting combinations on the menu. If you are downtown looking for a sandwich this is a great option. I just happened to be walking by on my way to the usual fast casual lunch spots when I saw this place. I ordered the turkey meatball bahn mi and it was beyond delicious. They served a super generous amount of meatballs on a crispy baguette full of marinated veggies. Every bite was bursting with flavor. Great service, amazing sandwich. Yes, they are smaller than normal, but honestly, I feel like most sandwiches are way too large anyway. To me, the value is in the fresh ingredients, on their unique sandwiches. I highly recommend trying the Turkey + Wasabi Coleslaw. It will blow your mind. First of all, I am not a sandwich super mania, but I would love to eat them occasionally. I decided to try my occasional menu at the Pane Pane, just to see how the gourmet sandwich tastes like as it is how they are advertising. They have variety kinds of menu, almost 50 plus kinds of sandwiches that you can choose from. I tried #41 & #53 (yes, I was starving to the death that day) I will say my favorite one is going to be #53 prosciutto and mascarpone, which the lady at the cashier helped me choosing the right sauce for it, the wasabi dijon. It was delicious, the bread was so soft, not too salty, and the wasabi dijon & mascarpone made this sandwich so special and tasty. I see some people complaining about the size of the sandwich but now they seem to have two different sizes, short & long, I had long size and it was just enough size to fulfill my hunger. If the size and amount is THE MOST important thing that you are concerned about, then you should just go to one of your local market deli corner and enjoy yourself.....
