It was a MADHOUSE in there at lunch today! The manager seemed very cool under pressure, even when someone came in to solicit during the lunch rush (who does that???). The staff was really friendly, and our food came out immediately! The staff was great about keeping tables turning and people moving...They were also good about keeping things clean despite the mad rush. Panera is truly a failed exercise in franchised mediocrity. I've eaten here several times with the constant delusion that somehow its going to get better. I feel like an anomaly writing this review because most people I talk to love Panera. They have a starbucks-like cult following that is a complete mystery to me. At this point I'm just convinced people have a ravenous appetite for sh*t and will eat anything that the people inside their TV tells them is good. Now to the food, The salads consist of wilted lettuce, a sprinkling of vegetables, some stale wantons or tortilla strips, dried out cold chicken that was grilled a month ago off site that has been sitting in a fridge waiting to be consumed doused in a vat of fatty dressing. The soups are no better than anything you would find out of a can and are overpowered with salt, then stuffed into a stale sourdough mass that will probably sit in your lower intestine for the next decade or so. If all this sounds delicious to you then wait until you hear about the sandwiches! They call it Panera BREAD for a reason. There is definitely no shortage of bread on these subpar delights. Most sandwiches are pulled out of the fridge and thrown onto a panini press before they are fired out to the customers in elegant assembly line fashion. The chicken is once again the re-re-refrigerated crap from the salads and the turkey breast makes subway's meat look appetizing and most are capped off by a very appetizing slice of welfare grade cheese. The giant loaf of bread that accompanies all the meals is generally stale as are the minimum wage employees that begrudgingly take your money and ALWAYS ignore your desperate plea to hold the mayo. 2 stars is generous for this fixture of bland overpriced food that seems to occupy every strip mall in suburban America. The only reason why I go to this location is because of its proximity to my office. They need to establish a better way or to have people line up to order. There always seems to be confusion as to where the line is, who is next, and whether or not there is one line or two. I had a coffee subscription and because I wanted hot (not lukewarm) coffee at this location, I was told that I wasn't welcome in any Paneras on LI. Fine, I don't go where I am not wanted. However, on the same day, they charged my bank account with another month of coffee subscription. How do I use it, I can't so they are stealing from a 72 year old woman living on social security. Additionally, my $20 gift card and $30 in "rewards" are also useless. No one at Paneras responds to this though, they must be in dire straights. If you feel you must go to a Panera (I can't imagine why, but I won't get into the food right now) do not go to one in Nassau County. The management in these is terrible, the managers couldn't care less about the customers, all they want to do is leave as evident by them stacking the chairs on the tables at 4 PM - 5 hours before closing. They will do nothing for you, if they make hot coffee, it won't be for an hour and a half and anything else you bring up is automatically and completely dismissed. Gave this place a three star cause their service really differs depending on when you go. Sometimes they have a really nasty manager who is this bigger white lady and she really doesn't care about her customers. One time I ordered spicy chicken thai salad to stay and they gave my order as to go, but I was like okay whatever that's fine and I went to the table. When i went to go take the container out of the bag i found the container to not be closed properly so while i was lifting it the whole thing went all over me and my white pants. All while I was working so i had to go back to work with stained white pants. When i told the manager she was so rude and i lost my appetite by that point. The lines are always long for lunch and the wait can be about 5-12 minutes depending on the time. If you have a short lunch you may not have much time to eat your food so take it to go. Always check your food before you leave. I usually get the bacon turkey bravo. I used to ask for substitutions like a different type of cheese or bread and they always mess it up so I just get it as is now. If you sign up for their loyalty card they send out coupons for $ off your lunches. The tables are often neglected and when people eating don't clean up after themselves you may have to do it for them if you want to sit somewhere. The employees don't clean them often enough. I think eating at panera bread is like eating at Dunkin Donuts, it will do if you have no other choices but its not really very good. If this place was upstate in my hometown then it would be four stars but honestly we have so many far superior local choices that its a shame to eat here. When it comes to the food, Panera is Panera - and this is a Panera so they're fine in that aspect. The reason I go to this particular location is due to the lovely service I (more often than not) get from the staff there. Of course, you're always going to have a few new people, or a few off days, but all in all it's usually kind service with a smile. I've never received the wrong order or an incorrect substitution - and in fact when I was disappointed a sandwich I loved was no longer on the menu, the cashier brightly told me "oh we can do that for you!" and proceeded to ring me up for exactly what I'd wished I could still have. Also, since I'm generally coming in the middle of my shift, the chocolate chip cookies truly brighten up my day! It can get a little overcrowded depending on the time, but food comes out quickly if you're aiming for take-out, and there is outdoor seating so if it's a nice day why not take in that beautiful Broadway Mall/Hicksville scenery? read more

I go to other Paneras all the time and never have an issue but every time I order from this Panera something is missing from my order, the wrong items are in my bag or my order is extremely late. I am a vegetarian and I'll order a basic salad and they accidentally put chicken on it. One time my salad had hair in it. I've complained to the manager every time and they just apologize and fix it. Nothing has been done to correct the issue. The main issue is they are supposed to have someone check off each item for accuracy on the receipt and then sign their name. Wow! This Panera location is excellent!!!!!! So much better than the ones at Garden City, Plainview, Syosset, and East Meadow. As you can guess, I'm a frequent patron at Panera. I was blown away by the amazing service at this Panera. They're always so friendly to me and remember my order! I love to switch up sometimes too. The chipotle chicken avocado is great. My favorite salad is the southwest chili like ranch with chicken. I recommend substituting the smoked chicken with grilled chicken and removing the feta cheese. I love their orange scones, so good! I also recommend the bear claw and ALL of their cookies. The best cookie by far is the triple chocolate walnut. Anyway, I definitely recommend this specific location. read more

My wife and I went to Panera Bread in Hicksville last Saturday afternoon. We both had soup and salad. I had a cesare's salad and she had the Green Goddess Cobb salad w/chicken. She started getting cramps a few hours later and then continued throwing up until 5:30 in the morning. She has been sick all week. We left a message and then tried calling. No one answers the phones. The salad looked like everything was just thrown in the bowl including cabagge which didn't look good along with other greens. Won't be going back there again! We were told she had food poison! This Panera location is the worst on Long Island! Ordering rapid pick up is a waste of time - at least for me. I've tried several times, and my order is never ready when I get there, I typically have to wait 25 minutes. On the one occasion it was ready, it was sitting behind the counter and I had to wait to ask them for the bag. Im so aggravated at this store. I place online orders because i have a short lunch. They didnt have one of the items i wanted (which is fine) but instead of having the rest of my meal ready and just offering a credit i had to wait on the line to speak to the manager. Who was the worlds slowest manager. The lady at the counter (pretty, had blonde hair) offered to step in and help me pick out a different pastry even tho she was extremely busy. Went on what seemed was busier then usual Sunday for lunch and they seemed to be understaffed on this day. Joe told me to wait while he was running around and helping customers and get orderer prepared. He ended up not charging me for my broccoli cheddar soup because I waited a lot longer then what I was used too.
