Over an hour wait! We came for lunch and it was fast to order on the self service kiosk. However, the wait to get our food was so so long. It is graduation weekend so I understand longer than normal wait times, but over an hour verges on unacceptable for a fast food lunch place like this. The food is good/standard for Panera. I always love the you pick two options. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean enough. This Panera bread is conveniently located in downtown New Haven but the restaurant is in poor condition. I would not recommend dining in here. The tables look dirty, all the cushioning in the booths are torn apart, and the location is quite noisy. That being said, the staff here is super friendly, and they have all of my favorite go-to Panera menu items, including a full bakery. Great option for take out! read more

If you don't mind a chicken salad that eats dryer than lake Meade, then you won't mind the food here. I won't for sure. My sandwich was boring, and dry served on a dense bagel. The staff was out of sorts and it took more than ten minutes to get a sandwich. The bathroom was dirty and while the employees were nice, the place was disjointed. While this Panera Bread location is perfectly convenient, the delivery service is not as great as it could be. I have ordered from them twice for big meetings that I've had and have complained both times due to food items or something as small as eating utensils and paper goods missing from the order. On the other hand, the Supervising staff is very accommodating, but I would rather have my order correct, then to have to call to make a complaint and definitely should not have to have my food delivered an additional half hour or so to allow myself time to go and pick up those missing items. read more

Hands down the filthiest Panera I've ever been in, perhaps the filthiest restaurant of all. Stopped in for lunch. None of the tables had been cleaned. There were crumbs everywhere, and sort of a greasy film on all the tables. The seats of the booths were all ripped and many of the tabletops had been written or carved on. While the sandwiches and salads where great a like most other premium locations the issue was the agreement with Starbucks next door about lattes and other premium coffees. I was at the courthouse as a witness in a trial for a lawsuit and before we all walked over there from our hotel, we were each shown a menu from Panera Bread and asked what we each wanted ordered to be delivered for our lunch at the courthouse. I looked it over and was interested in either a half sandwich and salad or a whole sandwich...I chose the whole sandwich, turkey with lettuce, tomato, onion. It came with kettle chips, pickle, and a cookie. When we adjourned for lunch I found my sandwich but there were two of them! And someone who ordered the half sandwich with a salad found what we would consider a whole sandwich: meat and things between two slices of bread...mine was two of those...four slices of bread. Now I was not upset about that and I ate everything. I was hungry and completely forgot to take any pictures. I love the Panera menu. The soups, salads, and breads are usually fresh and flavorful. I have several favorites like the broccoli cheddar soup, all of the salads, and cranberry and asiago bagels. So this particular morning, I was running late to an event, no time for breakfast at home so let's try Panera. When I come into the restaurant all of the employees are sitting in the booths or gathered in the prep area talking. They don't inquire if I need anything and my order was wrong even though they weren't busy. This location has same delicous food but the customer service is not what I expected. read more

Wow! I did not even recognize this Panera after I walked in. It took a few minutes to realize "yes, this is a Panera". A few minutes later after I digested the new menu, "yes, this is what a Panera is supposed to be like."The additional menu blew me away. Why this effect? I go to Panera in MD, VA, NY, CT (maybe too often but I travel every few days). This is a newer model of Panera open since June creates small batches of stuff, fresher and different things. Yet they have most of the staple items every Panera has. Yes, they take your Panera card here and offer the usual lottery of rewards. There is a signature fire place. Their tables are not very moveable. Lots of brick, tall ceilings, metal accents and wood tables in this decor. Lots of tables and seating for Panera. Looks very different. Even the wifi is different. Login and check it out. They are quieter than that other coffee chain next door. And you will likely find a seat at Panera. Oh the menu? They have 5 kinds of waffles. Not cardboard tasting waffles like most places, but real authentic Belgian waffles (with pearled sugar in the batter). Puts a cronut to shame IMHO. Come in, take it in and taste one. read more

I am not a huge Panera fiend like some of my friends but I must say I am totally digging the new soups on the menu. This place is huge so plenty of seating. The veggies in my Thai soup were nice and crunchy. Fresh herbs were used and I could taste them individually. Along with my 1/2 sandwich it was perfect for dinner. Overdue for an update! This panera isn't as bad as I'd previously dubbed it. It's actually a good place to get good food at a decent price. I don't order pick up from there anymore, but I do eat there occasionally. I tend to like their mac and cheese, broccoli cheddar soup, chicken Cobb and avocado salads, and their quinoa bowls. My fiancé loves the bacon turkey bravo sandwiches. For sides, you get either an apple, chips, or bread. Not many people know there are two types of bread offerings, but there are! You can either get the baguette, which goes well with any soup, orrrrr you can go with the softer, more soulful, dinner roll (which is my fave)! The only issue is that sometimes, oftentimes, they're out of the dinner rolls, which sucks. But, overall, panera bread on chapel street in new haven is a nice place to go for good food! read more

I've eaten at many a Panera Bread, so this review is based on this particular location and not the entire chain. I try to enjoy an outdoor lunch on Yale's campus once a week; although I usually bring something homemade, sometimes I pick up my lunch at Panera, especially when I've been studying too much to cook often. On this visit to Panera Bread on Chapel St, I ordered one of my usual items and a new menu item, as part of the Buy 2 (I ordered a half sandwich and half salad). I found that there were a few issues with my order: My order was not 100% correct. I had requested some modifications to my sandwich and they were missed; I received the sandwich per the standard preparation. Also, I asked for my side to be a toasted baguette, but received it untoasted (is that a word??). It wasn't a terrible experience, I was simply disappointed that the items were not to my preference. I still enjoyed the food and had a nice lunch al fresco in Yale's Old Campus. Would I visit here again? Yes. The proximity to my weekly outing location and my love for Panera Bread will bring me back here. Verdict: Standard Panera food, but it may not be made to your preference or per your request. If you're incredibly picky, beware. If you can roll with little disappointments, you'll probably be fine. read more

3.5 stars: your regular Panera, clean, fast, and reliable. A good place to grab a quick bite between classes, but nothing spectacular. Their chicken frontega sandwich is probably my go-to dish, and their soup in a bread bowl is a staple in the winter. They also make a very good strawberry shortcake, surprisingly, though at 6 dollars, it is not cheap compared to other sweets they offer. One complaint is that this Panera does not have very good wifi, and occasionally it is impossible to connect to the internet at all. I'm not sure if this is intentional, because the management doesn't want people to buy a sandwich and sit there for an entire afternoon, or just due to the fact that they only opened last year and are still trying to get everything in place. Years ago I felt Panera was a place to go for bread and not really healthy stuff. My son in his 20s got me going. But in the past year I look forward to eating there. I admit I have never ordered a pastry but I did get some free bagels using my perks card. They have a free coffee a day month...no purchase. But...the salads are so tasty. Watermelon and feta...and the Greek Quinoa..just half. I never eat the side but I take home the chips or apple. I like the tomato soup best. Ice tea is very good as well as the coffee. I've been reluctant to post a negative review because the staff is friendly, but on numerous occasions there is no coffee ready in the morning. At 9 am, any self-respecting cafe should have hot and fresh coffee- not empty dispensers. There is no urgency to brewing the next batch of coffee and what should be a quick coffee break turns into a waste of time and makes me cranky. I go to this Panera often for lunch while I'm a work and I order rapid pick-up online. The last few times my order has been completely wrong. Last time I asked for no egg in my salad, and I they gave me egg and no avocado. Today I figured I wouldn't make any changes so as not to confuse anyone, and there was blue cheese and bacon ADDED to my salad (that I did not ask for), no side, and my bottled water was missing. I stop in here every few months to pick up two dozen bagels for meetings, and their staff has always been gracious and efficient in getting them sliced and packaged along with the cream cheese, knives, napkins, etc. Even during their typical morning breakfast rush I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes, which is incredible. For that reason alone I'd recommend them. The menu, if you've ever been to another Panera, should hold no surprises. It's tasty, quick, and consistent. Nothing mind-blowing. This was the worst experience I've had at a Panera. First of all the girl who took my order was extremely rude, impatient and clearly didn't want to be there. When my order came out they had put sauce on my sandwich even though I made it clear that I did not want sauce. I nicely told the girl who took my order that there was sauce on the sandwich when I asked for no sauce. Before bringing it back to the kitchen she stared me down and then rolled her eyes at me. To top it off, the kitchen only wiped the sauce off my sandwich instead of making me a new one and they did a terrible job of doing so. I will definitely not be returning to this location. read more

Panera is a convenient place for a quick lunch, or to hang out while studying and snacking. The restaurant (and bathroom) is quite clean and there is enough room between the tables to afford diners some privacy, unlike some super crowded Panera locations I've been at. When you place your order, you get a numbered beeper - I thought it would beep and I would have to go to the counter to pick up my food, but a server delivered everything to my table! So nice! I'm not a fan of Panera's bagels - they just taste like fluffy bread to me - but the soups are amazing, especially the autumn squash one they have right now. read more

This Panera is a great, welcoming place. Last time I came here, they offered me a free waffle just because they were doing tastings. Today, I ordered a spinach souffle and, when I went to go get it a few minutes later, it turned out they were out. BUT I was reimbursed for my souffle AND given a free fontina grilled cheese sandwich. which was delicious, even though they refer to the pockets of cheese as "batons". Whatever that means. This is not the best place to study, in my opinion, because the air-conditioning is always a little bit too high and the music loud. The lighting is great, though. And the small-batch bakery has stellar pastries that you can't find at most panera franchises. The pastries here are so much better than things at maison mathis, just down the road. read more
