This place needs help. The staff needs help too. I have given this place several chances, and each time have had a problem. Food is just okay if they get your order correct and haven't run out of ingredients. The soup is never hot, the hot sandwich bread is usually burnt, and sandwiches are carelessly thrown together (good chance that most of the toppings are on one half). The pastry/cookie assortment is usually limited (probably ran out). Their main menu (above the cashiers) does not have what ingredients are in the sandwich, and the little menu on the window next to the door has items that they don't make anymore. This is my neighborhood breakfast spots that I frequent often. However, on this particular morning I have to say something. On several occasions, they are understaffed in the morning so you are waiting for a period of time, especially when your hurrying for work. They also run out of many key item, such as the souffles that are featured in the front glass, and morning coffee. Tell me if I'm wrong, but who doesn't have a fresh supply of coffee in the morning before opening? Every Sunday the service is atrocious. The line is usually out the door and there are not enough folks on the counter to support the volume. No one comes out to help the lone cashier who obviously is not well suited for the position. Even if there is only one cashier and a customer orders a smoothie, the cashier has to leave the customers to make the smoothie. Meanwhile their are four people prepping food in the back. One yells out, We'll be right with you. Highly unlikely that someone will be. This place is terribly managed and ineptly run. I have been there editing a half an hour for one salad with no apology from anyone. I witnessed a customer being ridiculed by an employee for complaining. My advice is to go to ToGos. Pros: It's Panera! Cons: Constantly out of stock of basic ingredients, like lettuce. You have to double check every order. The kitchen sometimes makes mistakes (happens to everyone,) and the front counter people are just too lazy to actually put in any front counter items that you order, or to let you know something was out of stock. I've seen it happen. Repeatedly. The kitchen brings the bag up to the space between. Then, the front counter person looks at them like they're crazy, lets it be known that they're going to ignore it, and lets it sit there for AGES. Basically, until someone from the kitchen just moves the bag over to the rapid pick up area. Meanwhile, you're standing there, waiting, watching this all happen. It's ridiculous. So, they're constantly shorting customers. The dining area is weirdly thrashed for a Panera. read more

Needs work. I'm a regular at the Panera in Alameda despite the fact I don't live in Alameda. The food is always good, and the managers know how to run things. Cue the opening of the Pinole Panera. I expected a similar experience, and although it's improved, it's still a far cry. The good is still good, but the atmosphere is off--maybe the ghost of Blockbuster video still haunts the place, but the vibe is rushed. It's run like a fast food restaurant. Unlike the Alameda location where they deliver your food to your table, at Pinole, they call your name & you pick up your food. The restaurant is not as clean as the Alameda location, and the staff don't seem as personable or like they know what they're doing. One last thing, and this goes for all the Paneras I've been to: decaf coffee available after 2pm *only by request*? Get it together, guys. You're part of the Panera chain. I really like Panera bread. This location is NOT the one to go to. The bathrooms were dirty, they were out of key ingredients for my favorite menu item, they forgot an item that I paid for on my salad, plus an employee in the dining area spilled an entire bowl of tomato soup on the carpet right next to my chair while trying to dump it into the trash can. Then, proceeded to have an entire conversation with us about all the messes she has cleaned up before at her previous jobs - we basically just left because we felt entrapped in the conversation. Went in late last night for some broccoli cheddar soup, got home and it was not the correct soup at all. My boyfriend was actually allergic, thank God I caught it before hand. We called and spoke to the manager JB & he was super understanding and told us to come in the next day. Definitely dont order curbside pick up. I waited over 30 minutes for my order and people who went in to order got their food first even though i ordered ahead of time. They didnt pick up the phone when i called either so i ended up walking inside anyways to get my order which defeated the purpose of curbside pickup. My order was just sitting beside the registers. Also when i got my salad it had no dressing and i didnt say i wanted no dressing on my salad. This place is a mess!! First of all I ordered something online and the app said that my order should be ready in 10minutes. I walk in there to pick up my order, but the lady told me that they still have to defrost the coffee cake for 3 hours. It was about 8:30am, didn't they think about defrosting it at 6am since their store usually open around that time, or maybe they should have did it last night for the convenience of their customers. So then I decided to just get a refund, the cashier told me that she has to call her manager for the refund. I saw her talking to the manager in the back, the manager didn't seem to care by the way I saw the reaction of her face, she also let me wait 10minutes for my refund. When she gave me back my refund she didn't even apologize and didn't say anything to me!!! Which is very rude and unprofessional. She needs some sort of training!!! I am a huge fan of Panera bread in San Diego. I love a good salad and Panera is one of my go to places. It's kinda expensive for what it is, but when you crave leafy goodness you will do what you must. I have tried both Panera Breads near me (Pinole and Emeryville) and both have disappointed. The staff and the dining rooms are wonderful at both but the food is severely lacking. The food is always beautifully presented but when tongue meets ingredients all I taste is water. So sad! If you're listening Panera please get better quality ingredients. Strawberries that taste like strawberries. Blueberries that taste like blueberries. Shnozberries that taste like shnozberries. I wasn't sure what to order so the girl at the register was kind enough to help me and give me options that pertained my preference. I ended up with a plain 'ol cold turkey sandwich with bacon on it. It was actually pretty good because of the bread. Turkey + Bacon = too salty for me. I also ordered a cup of broccoli and cheddar soup. oooo it was super good especially with the bread they give you on the side. I also think it's nice that they add a bag of kettle chips on the side for you when you order a cup of soup. Oh and I think it's like almost $2 for a cup to drink lol. Today I had an issue with the cashier that took my order. Normally I eat breakfast so being unfamiliar with lunch I found it odd that I had a french baguette accompany my tuna on wheat. After addressing my issue to Paulina she explained that the staff member was in training, explained the lunch process, apologized, and offered me the apple or chips that I should have been offered. This store opens at 6am, it's currently 7am and I'm at this location to grab 3 dozen for my employees.... except they don't even have 1 dozen for me to buy. Looks like they made 2 dozen in total. How do you expect to service your customers if you don't have enough bagels to serve them within 1 hour of your store opening. As a woman who is in Management, I would be extremely upset to know that whoever is running my business at this location is missing out on HUNDREDS of dollars by not properly preparing to meet the needs of my customers. I've fallen in love with Panera over the years :) As always, their passion ice green tea is bomb.com. And their broccoli cheddar soup is best on sick days. I love that they have the option to order online now. Super convenient and usually accurate. I've been trying to taste different pastries but the chocolate croissant is what I always go back to. I just wish they were able to toast it (I have to microwave it). Service is pretty friendly - shout out to Van?, he makes sure I always have everything I need, something I really appreciate. I continue to spend my money here because the food is decent. Yet, the customer survive remains to be POOR! They fail EVERY TIME to follow instructions on my order.
