Okay, so we generally enjoy Panera Bread and have done business here several times. This is very likely the last time I will come to the Jantzen Beach location to give them my business. I had an email from Panera, I clicked on their link and it brought me to the home page. We (my husband, daughter, and I) had been out and it was going on lunchtime. The website had a deal for a family meal for $29. We decided, to order online and pick up. Every time I made the order and went to check out, it came out to $34.99. There was no tax and no delivery fees, so why all of a sudden is it an additional $4.99? We pulled up to the business and one of the girls had brought out a persons' order and so I asked her. I even had taken a screenshot of it and showed both where it said $29. and $34.99. She didn't know so she said she would ask her manager. I went inside to find out what the manager said, and also explained to him the difference. He said that they were a different type of store and that they were charging the $34.99, where the other type of businesses were charging the $29. I asked, "well, can't you just adjust the price?" his answer was "no" I'm thinking its like $4.99 difference, you're still making a $29 order. So I flat out told them "I'm taking my business elsewhere, if you can't accept the price difference, you're not worth my time." And then I walked out. If I were the business owner or even the manager, and a customer asked for the price difference than I would definitely give it to them. But because of his unwillingness to accept it, he lost not one, but three customers. I hope whoever reads this will think twice about supporting his business. After all, the majority of us are all going through hard times and financial difficulties because of this covid-19 mess. Needless to say, we went to Taco Bell, spent $12, and enjoyed our lunch. read more

Dude!!! They put chick peas in their chili. What the crap?!? I'm in a hurry and it's convenient. Had to wait for ever to be served (note: the last time I was here same experience with the line not moving). Still really? I think there's got to be a world body regulating the very wide open interpretation of what is a chili bean and what isn't Of all the beans in the world that go in a chili. I ordered online hoping for a quick grab. I walked up to the online order shelves and waited about 15 minutes, thinking they were just behind. After they begin to stand around laughing, I asked them if my order was almost ready. They went "oh yea" and pulled it out from behind the counter.... Really?? Ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches that looked amazing on the Doordash App, and a cookie. The sandwiches were horrible they were so dry that you literally had to tear off the bread and it tasted like frozen powdered eggs. I have had frozen Jimmy Dean sandwiches and they tasted way better than this. I literally thought they took the insides out of a frozen breakfast sandwich and stuffed it in their bread. It was my husbands and I's first time there my husband got a bread bowl,I got a turkey panini sandwhich a potato soup,and a sausage pasta bowl that my husband and I split. I think I've been going to Panera for 15 years? Not just this location, but nationwide. Regardless, I've been a customer for a very long time. Their food quality has gone down tremendously in that time. All the while they have committed to being a company with values and only offering "clean, responsibly raised food" but your food actually sucks. And, your prices have gone up. I don't know what you did to the baguette recipe but it is now garbage. I was served a baguette with my lunch today that was floppy and chewy like it had been microwaved. The croutons were equally as gross, as they are made out of that same nasty bread. They were hollow and stale tasting. WTF? I never expected them to be authentic, but they used to be decent for the money. Not anymore. Panera, your food used to be alright, and now its just trash. ok whenever I come across grewt service I like to talk wbout it. Well the crew here is fantastic. First I love the green tea papaya iced. If yiu hwvent tried it you should. But what makes it grewr is thst I asked a cashier the ingredients and she told me. Later I asked if ahe knew what was in it and ahe said why dont I just print you out the ingredients list wnd it will have suggestions on how to make it . She did just that. 3:30 pm on a sunny, Saturday afternoon...decide to treat myself to an orange scone. Waited in line 15 minutes...one cashier, 3 customers in front of me, and six more behind me. Two empty registers at the counter, multiple working in the back bit the thing that REALLY bothered me was the person busily refilling lids and napkins behind the counter. No! Help the customers! You're not in business to refill drink lids. Get those orders taken so that the people in the back can prepare orders. This location has consistently, slow and weak customer service! read more

Just to have a short dark haired female employee run up and lock the door at 7:42pm on 02/25/21. There were other people trying to eat there as well. Visited at lunch time on a rainy Saturday, welcome to Portland. The place was dirty. The gal behind the register seemed like she hated her job. The manager was on the other register and was very short with customer questions. Sandwiches: bread was great and that is where it ended. Couldn't eat the sandwiches. The meat was dry, had no flavor, and tasted old. The stuff on top of the meat had a funny, bad smell. The bathroom trash was overflowing. Have not been back in a year because of the last visit. Two words: Slow Abominable Slow: I waited close to 20 minutes for a flatbread sandwich and chips. (There was one person in line ahead of me.) Abominable The tomato and mozzarella flatbread was undercooked, contained what appeared to be globules of unmelted "cheese food" , and was topped with greens that were blackened at the edges. I don't know what it is about this location but I literally have nothing but problems when we order from them, today our clinic placed our order through Postmates because for some reason this Panera doesn't deliver down the street (~5 miles) and literally every item on our order needed to be substituted, why list all these items on postmates if you don't have them? Then the last time we ordered a catering order from them it showed up over an hour late even though we had placed it a couple days before, and their reason was that they went to the wrong address and no one from Panera even tried to call us. Needless to say after today and having a hold of 140$ placed on my card for an order we eventually just had to cancel we will not be ordering from them again. read more

This is my first time in a Panera bread. First of all it's a hot summer day and at this point I'm so hungry but I just wanted my late 5:30pm lunch to be healthy and light. As soon as I walk in I see the most friendly face behind the cash register! (Not) So we order. The lovely young lady is speaking under her breath and clearly LOVING her job today. Also a joke. I thought if you worked in customer service you were supposed to fake being happy at least when someone first walks in? Anyway having never been here I order a SOBA CHICKEN NOODLE BOWL - HUGE HUGE difference between ordering a chicken noodle SOUP! The girl double checks with me: "chicken noodle bowl?" to which I politely tell her "yes please". She brings my order to the table - I get a chicken noodle soup. And since I've never been here before I had no idea there was even a difference, so here I am eating my LEAST favorite type of soup thinking "What the heck, Panera? You can't just claim this is a soba noodle bowl." SO I'm looking at you here, PANERA! If you're gonna launch a new menu option - please train your oh so friendly employees to LEARN what their customers order. I ordered a lunch for my work team. This is the second time we've used Panera. We all reviewed the website and I called to order in. I asked the server to read the order back to me and it was accurate - had to make sure, there were 7 of us. She suggested I give it 25 minutes or so, which is perfectly fine, since I was about 17 min. away. I went to pick it up and stood in a line that seemed longer than it was. The restaurant interior seemed really updated and savvy. It looked quite nice in the dining area. The line moved quickly and my order was ready. The server read it aloud to me and she missed one item, but it had actually cut off on the computer read out. It was all there in one sack! I had ordered the 1/2 sandwich and cup Mac n Cheese. The sandwich in the picture was very pleasing to look at, the sandwich I got was quite thin and smashed down. It was adequate - but not memorable. I ordered the Grilled Cheese with Tomato Bacon. I really liked the Mac n Cheese. It was just the right amount of creaminess with shells. My teammates liked their food - no negative reviews. My last sandwich here was more abundant and I think I'd gone for the whole one-like an Italian Cold Cut. Overall I think the food is a bit overpriced for what you get, but there are some definite winners, like the Mac n Cheese and the Cookies. Good Service at this location. read more

Went in around lunch time to place an order to go; no line, paid and went to the designated area to wait for my order, where I was literally the ONLY person waiting. I sit there on my phone to pass the time while waiting for my order. Fast forward TWENTY minutes - I'm still the only person waiting, and I can hear the workers chatting and seemingly not preparing my order. So I stand up, at which point I'm finally acknowledged by the staff, seemingly confused by my presence. I show them my receipt and tell them I ordered 20 minutes ago and long story short, they bagged my order and (incorrectly) put it up at the front of the store. By the time I finally get a hold of my order, it's cold. No apology from the staff, no offer for a refund/remake, not even an offer to toss it in the microwave. Bad service and no ownership. There aren't a ton of food options here at jantzen beach so we decided soup and sandwiches were the best choice. For my 2 children and I to have soup and 1/2 grilled cheese and a cup of Mac n cheese the total was almost $30. The food is ok but definitely not feeling like it was worth what we paid. A friend who used to work here informed me that tons of fruit flies will come out of wherever and rest on the food out in the open. Furthermore, when my friend suggested that they cover the food in plastic bags to keep the flies off, they were told that it just doesn't look as pretty. We went with friends for a dinner date. The prices are very expensive, even though the food was good. We rate the selection at counter 2, menu 5, cleanliness 4, the food 5, service 2 (new girl at the front counter). They did not ask about our frequent visitor points plan....the coffee was cold. Went to this location tonight. Our order was messed up and they forgot to make our smoothie. Which was fine, I understand mistakes happen... But after telling one of the workers behind the counter about it, we waited and waited and waited. Finally we went to the counter and saw the smoothie waiting there, with no employee mentioning that the smoothie had been completed. So by this point it was melted and was not even filled all the way. My sandwich was sub par. I do not think I will be returning to this location. Also, maybe don't make grilled cheese sandwiches with Kraft singles. If I'm paying 12.50 for a small bowl of soup, a partially-filled smoothie and half of a grilled cheese sandwich, at least use tillamook. read more

When we walked in, the cashier was in an in-depth conversation about personal topics with a customer and decided to ignore us until it was finished. She looks at us finally and says "what's up, what can I get you guys". Ok, one "what's up" is unprofessional and it literally caught me off guard. And two, not greeting a customer is such a red flag for the service to come; I've worked in customer service all my life and greeting a customer is one the most important things you can do to ensure your guest feels appreciated and how about.. acknowledged! When we received our food my broccoli soup had a huge black curly hair in it! It was so disgusting, I immediately lost my appetite. I brought it to, I believe the manager and she hurriedly took it away and said shed get me another one. .she left so fast I couldn't even say I didn't want another bowl of OBVIOUSLY CONTAMINATED SOUP. Well about 2 minutes later (obviously it was just another scoop out of the same pot because 2 minutes is not enough time to make a whole new batch) she brought over a small bowl. And asked if I wanted a cookie! Jesus Christ come on! How about acknowledge the soup issue and offer my money back? I was so disturbed I threw every thing away before we left! When I went to this Panera it was my first experience with the company. I didn't really know what to get so I ordered half a grilled cheese and a bowl of tomato soup. The food was simply delicious. It was a fresh, tasty little lunch that I am not accustomed to when eating out. Everything was very good, especially the little roll that I was given (which was super fresh). So food wise, this place is amazing. Cleanliness wise, this place was dirty as can be. Crumbs all over the floor and tables as if no one had been through to clean it up in a while. Stacks of trays of food with dirty dishes on the garbage can. Now if they were slammed with business then I could understand them falling behind, but it was pretty slow and there were not that people there. So, food is simply delicious. Never been to a Panera before but it was what I expected. Mostly soups, salads, sandwiches, and some basic pasta dishes. The bread was very tasty which is what they are known for I suppose. It was super busy at lunchtime but the food came fairly quickly. Pretty sure the Panini sandwiches are pre-made. A bit on the pricey side but nice comfortable atmosphere. Panera Bread is a great company, excellent menu, we really like the 'Rapid Pick-Up' just order and pay online, walk in and order is sitting right there all bagged up, ready to go. No need to wait in line or even speak to anyone. Just look for your name in a tag and if you go. Add ten minutes to the time they tell you it will be ready. read more

The ingredients are usually very good. The problem I have with Panera is the lack of care and attention to detail when putting my sandwich, panini, or salad. I love real avocado but just one big chunk on the middle of the sandwich makes it very hard to eat. If I order my panini without onion I shouldn't find any. If my friend orders no tomato on her salad (tomato allergy) she shouldn't have to pick several chunks out and take benadryl. Generally good food I would just rather wait another couple minutes for my food to get some attention to detail. read more

I decided to come here for breakfast because I was out of coffee at home. Its a neighborhood place and I've been here frequently before. Unfortunately, things are not going well after the buyout. Last spring, they had a new female manager who was doing a good job setting the tone with staff. But after the acquisition she disappeared. Since then, counter staff seems aloof and confused and service is very slow. When I arrived the line was slow. The counterperson who took my order was not friendly. Then after paying I realized ALL of the coffee pots were empty except hazelnut flavor. The person in front of me told staff and they said "we are brewing a new pot." After I sat down a staff member very slowly came and retrieved one pot and took it into the back. I then proceeded to eat my whole meal with no coffee. Totally aggravating. I went up to the counter and explained that I had been waiting my whole meal for coffee. All three staff members looked at me with blank stares and no one said anything in reply. No apology. No "the coffee will be right out." No explanation. Nothing. Then one person went in the back and came out with a pot of coffee. In a very flat way she looked at me and said tepidly, "it's brewed." Totally unacceptable. Where is the manager? It is their job to set the tone, the pace and the customer service. Staff here are lost. I'm not really interested in returning. read more
