I really love panera but this location has hit and miss customer service and quality of food. I love that there are vegetarian options and most of the soups are great but it seems when I get the pick two deal they give me a baby sandwich and the pickles are always super gross like they have been sitting out. This was the worst Panera I've ever been to. I ordered a half salad ($5.79) and half grilled cheese ($4.19)...when it came, the grilled cheese was about the size of half my hand, and it was rock hard -- I literally couldn't eat it. I went to the counter to order something else. They asked if the food was okay, and I explained about the sandwich not being edible. The person apologized, but then charged me full price for other food anyway. On our way out, we bought a couple of rolls that said they were $0.95 each, but they charged us $1.09. I asked her why it was more than listed and she didn't respond to me. After she rung us up she went to ask someone about it (again, without saying anything to us). A manager, Stephanie, came over and said that the real price is $1.09, but they would have to honor the price posted. The way she said it felt as though we were complaining and wasting her time! At this point, I was feeling really done with the place and their customer service at this point, so I asked if they could just give the difference to the next people in line. "Well, we can't do that, the transaction has already been completed!" She responded. We decided to leave after that. My review is primarily to do with their service. I ordered for rapid pick up today at 2pm and per their email, they said it should be ready for pick up at 2:15. I ordered a mac and cheese. I arrive at Panera around 2:10, as I was just around the corner, and waited for my food to be ready. 2:15 comes and no food, which didn't concern me. 2:20 comes and still no food, which again I'm not really complaining about that either, but do expect it to be ready soon, especially since I got something super simple to put together. I start noticing the employees at this point though. They are talking and laughing, which I have worked service before, enjoy your time at your job, you are not a robot. While they were engaging in social time, they were moving so incredibly slow and didn't appear to be working on any actual orders, rather just pacing around. At about 2:25 I see one of the employees who had been "working" on the line, leave for the day. At which point I see another employee come from the back, who had appeared to be on break, come into the food area and finally start working on preparing orders. I then, finally, get my food at 2:30.... a half hour after I initially placed my order... for mac and cheese. The food was fine, it was expected from Panera- fake tasting mac and cheese from a microwave, exactly what my funny pregnancy craving was for. But 30 minutes for that was simply ridiculous. I have never seen employees at a "fast food" place lollygag so much and not care. I don't know if it was because one of the employees was just milking the clock and wanting to go home, or if it was because someone wanted to take a break and not make sure that somebody is actually working the line, or a combination of both. I feel bad even writing a review like this, as most won't care anyways, or maybe it was just a really bad day for them.... I just saw too many employees "working", a few too many customers waiting, myself included, and no orders actually being worked on. I also was on my lunch break, so it sucked to have to call my work to tell them that I was running late coming back from lunch over something that could have easily been done in a few minutes had the employees actually cared a little bit about their job. read more

I may have just discovered my new favorite restaurant. Eating healthy on the go can be very difficult but Panera Bread has some amazing salads and fresh fruit options that won't blow your diet. Ordered a chicken salad sandwich that had a HUGE piece of gristle with fat and bone attached on about my second bite of lunch. Needless to say I lost interest thinking about what just ended up in my food and my mouth. Called to complain and inform since they might make this chicken salad in batches...guy who answered my call was apologetic and said he would send me a gift card as a goodwill gesture however I never received it... Just as well, not sure if I will eat there again, or at least not the chicken salad. read more

This Panera is currently the closest one to my place of employment, and my coworkers and I intentionally go to ones further away. Every time we have ordered they make at least one of our orders incorrectly. My most recent visit to this location was back in March and they ROYALLY messed up my order. I finally decided it was time to say something, I contacted them online via their chat. I was assured I would get a response from local management within 2-4 business days. Nothing. Reached out to them via their contact us option on their web page a few weeks later. Nothing. I have since reached out to them 1 or maybe 2 more times, mostly recently 1 week ago. Silence. Do yourself a favor, if you're going to spend your money on Panera's expensive selection of relatively fast food - avoid this location at all costs. Visit Hazel Dell or the Airport Location.... you'll still spend an arm and a leg, but at least your order will be accurate. read more

First time at Panera and the food was ok. The service was ok everyone had a sad face and No one culd muster up a smile.that included the manager! No clean tables all had food scraps and liquid on them. As i sat and ate my lunch i could see why. No one came out to whipe down tables, push in chairs or pick up trash on the floors. Nice restraunt but opperated terrible!! They need a new manager and crew becouse it seems as though no one wants to work execpt the cooks. Panera is exactly what this area needs! I was thrilled and trekked out here for my morning coffee to try it out. I had the pumpkin spice latte with a cinnamon crunch scone. So tasty! The next day I was reminiscing of my latte and went back for round 2. Unfortunately, it wasn't as sweet. I was so especially disappointed that my cup was only filled like half full! It was so strange, I actually opened the lid to see if I was crazy, and sure enough, I wasn't this time! I felt a little cheated but I also didn't want to be THAT person to go back and complain. This was my first time trying out any Panera restaurant, and unless starving again, I probably wouldn't go back. The service was excellent, and the two ladies at the front were very informative and helpful. The food was up really fast which was nice. I had the 1/2 & 1/2 combo with a cup of tomato soup and a turkey BLAT. The ingredients seemed high quality, nice big chunks of turkey and real avocado (not Subway style "spread). It was hard to eat though, and ended up all over the place. On top of that there was nothing really outstanding about it. The soup was good, but again, nothing special and seemed rather salty. My partner's tomato and mozz panini was alright, but overpowered by a huge serving of sun-dried tomatoes. He ended up picking 1/2 of them off. The layout of this place is weird too. The drink area is right across from the trash station, so crowds form waiting to do their thing... in the meantime, the same aisle is where customers are funneled after ordering, and where they pick up food. It was crowded and people were doing a lot of shuffling. I digress... the food just isn't that special, especially considering the price. I paid $10 for a small 1/2 sandwich, and a tiny cup of soup, with a fountain drink on the side. Seems a bit steep for the experience. I like their social mission and how they give back, but there are a lot of better options in Portland for a quick sandwich or some soup and salad. read more

The drive through is as slow as the walk-in. There is usually no parking at this location by the airport, so you're stuck to the drive-thru and often times it's a 20 min. wait easily. I like Panera's sandwiches and salads, but honestly, I can't substantiate paying $10 bucks anymore for a small sandwich. I usually order the chicken chipotle avocado melt, which I did today. The back side of the sandwich was missing half of the bread. The chicken is often dry and for $10 bucks, hardly anything inside the sandwich at all. A small cup of soup is over $5 bucks. By the time you get a drink, your lunch is easily over $15.00-20.00. I'd rather go to a decent sit-down restaurant for that much. If Panera is going to be successful, three things: clean up your restaurant! Hire more people to work your counters and get customers in and out in a timely fashion! Most importantly, lower your prices!! Ten bucks for a small thin sandwich is too much. At those prices, I won't be back. read more

Excited to see this location pop up. Haven't really had Panera Bread before as the closest one to me is in East Vancouver and I live on the West side of town. This is a convenient stop on the way home from work in Portland. The place is spacious, very nice decor, great customer service, and the options was more then I expected. I got a couple sandwiches to go, a pasta, and a blueberry scone. So far the food has been excellent and can't wait to try the other items on the menu. I will be back. The food is really good but don't count on their WIFI. The WIFI is pretty slow, slower than my slowed down data package from T-Mobile. The WIFI will kick you off and make you log in all over again if you take too many bites between online actions. If you are just looking for a decent place to eat Panera is fine. If you are looking for a place to eat and a bit of casual internet service between bites, I would suggest you look somewhere else. :-( read more

I have had pastries a couple times and they are cold (need heated up or something, not the best for sure. What I love is the location and the staff. Disgustingly filthy! 3 PM on Super Bowl Sunday, and it's dead inside. Workers standing around behind the counters, not doing much. Tables not wiped, crumbs and remnants from previous patrons abound. The men's room was unusable: urine all over the floor and toilet seat, other 'matter' caked and dried once the seat was lifted. Paper towels overflowing in the waste can. How can the attention to cleanliness be this poor, especially when it's not busy? I hope they keep their kitchen cleaner than the rest of the place. Never coming back. read more

What's the big deal about the food here. I had a grilled cheese today. It was awful, cheap white bread, not heavy grain, and the cheese must have been Velveeta or some very cheap American cheese like Kraft. Why not use a quality bread like Grand Central Bakery (baked in Portland) bread or Famous Dave's organic. And use a quality Oregon cheddar like Tillamook. This was my second time...two different locations, and come on guys quit the hype about great food. It's really mediocre. read more

I used to eat at Panera regularly when I lived in another State but have not tried one in Oregon despite living here or a decade. I probably picked the worst location to try as I was very disappointed in my visit to the Panera in Jantzen Beach today. I arrived at 6:30pm with my roommate to find a line of 8 deep with one station open. The young lady did the best she could, but it took 15 minutes to place my order. As we waited for our food, I noticed that the dining room was filthy. Most of the empty tables were full of dirty plates and trash. The floor was also littered with debris and trash. The was no clean silverware to be found. The wait for our food was excessive and the Staff seemed to only care about entertaining each other. The food, when it came, was just average but the price was not: nearly $40 for a couple of sandwiches, soup, and drinks. I will not be returning to this location. read more

Can't bring myself to click one star... I have always loved this place. No matter where you are, its always consistent. Well unfortunately that has changed. I just had a bad sandwich. In theory it would be great. But when I bit into it I almost broke a tooth, not on the apple, on the cold turkey. Well it was supposed to be turkey, might have been that cold rubber chicken from subway.... only it wasn't rubber. It's rock hard. I couldn't even rip it apart. As I pulled my bite away from the sandwich, the entire inside turkey came with, shredded? So I handed the other half, to my two coworkers. "So try!", one was able to actually get a bite, but spit it out because he couldn't chew it. The other held her jaw like she just got punched. He didn't like his food either. You'll have to read that review for details. Kinda ruined Panera for us, will always remember it fondly, but won't be back anytime soon. Will have our work lunches elsewhere. Any other time would have been at LEAST 4starts! Oh and even though we left two lunches untouched we were still changed full price. I usually love Panera Bread locations, but I can't go to this one. Last night we went to this location for the second time. Besides the offenses of off-tasting food and weird interactions with the staff, the place was just so dirty. It wasn't busy there at all, but half the tables were covered with dirty dishes and trash, and the floor was strewn with napkins too. When our food came out, the silverware given with it was disgusting. So many dried-on food chunks, fingerprints, etc. I went to the counter to get a new set, and the new set they handed me was just as dirty. I pointed out the same type of filth on the second set, and the man went to the back to get a third set from the kitchen. The third set was wet and still dirty, I think he had just rinsed another dirty set, so I gave up. Won't be back. read more
