I was recently reminded why I have a literal stack of unused Panera gift cards sitting in my room. This location is a complete disaster -- I cannot tell you how many times I have tried to come to this Panera and walked out within 5 minutes because the lobby is incredibly chaotic, staff is clueless, and they are ALWAYS out of SO MANY ingredients. Most of the time there are 15+ people in this lobby and everyone just looks around at each other with so much awkwardness and annoyance because surely no one knows what is happening or if it'll be their turn to order during this lifetime. Recently visited Panera in this location for pick up after ordering online and it was a really coherent and smooth transaction. When you reach the restaurant, you have to tap "I am here" button on your email to announce your arrival and the staff brings your order in a tray, following all precautions. You can also go inside and pick up your order. Either way, it was a friendly interaction. The food was good! Simple, healthy and flavorful. You really cannot go wrong. And it remained in great shape by the time I reached home. The chipotle sauce was delish in it with fresh tomatoes and veggies and the smoked pulled chicken. We have lived in the area for five years and the four times we have decided to get food from this location, it's just been a bad.experience. I keep thinking it will change after giving it some time but there are clearly some management issues going on here. They frequently leave stuff out of the order, food that's supposed to be hot is cold, portions are wrong, wait time takes forever, etc... Today was the last time I'll be going here. It's nearly a $3.00 upcharge for the tomato cucumber salad and there was literally about 1/2" - 1" of a tiny bowl filled on both my husband and my salads to where you could see the bottom of the bowl (we had not eaten anything before I took this pic). To make matters worse, my first bite had a long wavy black hair in it. So I guess, on the bright side, I didn't feel like I wasted much throwing it out. Panera Bread has great tasting food but the Puyallup, WA location has the worst customer service I have seen. Twice now my orders have had missing items and there response to this is "we can mail you a voucher. " Who does that? And once you get the voucher it can only be used in person in the cafe. So now I lose the convenience of placing the order in advance (making sure they have all of items) and making sure it's ready when I get there (I have kids). So, for your initial mess up you are going to send me an item that inconveniences me even more. I'm reviewing the sausage and egg breakfast sandwich. First time trying breakfast at Panera. The bread was perfectly toasted ciabatta that was chewy but tender. The egg is a scrambled egg cooked flat but not obviously egg mixture like McDonald's. It seems like they used a real egg. The sausage was OK... Very very mild with not much flavor, and it was a llittle slimy as if it had been boiled. I think cooking it on a grill where it would have had some bit of char might have improved a lot. Cheese was almost non existent. The staff seem friendly and accommodating but the sandwich was simply mediocre. You are better off getting a Sausage & Egg McMuffin any day. read more
