Summer Chilled Noodle: This had chicken from the protein and came with a side of chili oil and sesame sauce. It was delicious and refreshing with a mix of flavors that worked very well together. Noodles had the perfect al dente texture, but was still bouncy and clung to the sauce. Popcorn chicken: the meat was chicken thigh, so it was very juicy and slightly fatty. Finally stopped by Flaming Ox for a quick weekday lunch. They have an excellent lunch menu with extremely reasonable prices and delicious food. We ordered the beef noodle soup with popcorn chicken combo, mini belly rice combo, crispy green onion pancake and passion fruit green tea. The food was prepared quickly and we got everything within 5 minutes. Everything was great and so fresh- highlights were definitely the crispy green onion pancake and the popcorn chicken for me. Great pairing with the cold, refreshing passion fruit green tea to wash everything down. Service was super friendly and efficient. Decided to get dinner in the area and glad we went with Flaming Ox. Came with a group of 4 + baby around 7pm and we were seated right away. I ordered the dry Mala beef + tendon noodle and partner ordered the Mala Beef noodle soup. The broth was flavorful, rich, and spicy but not overall spicy where I couldn't enjoy it. The beef was perfect. It was soft and just melted in your mouth. By the end of it, I wanted another bowl because it was just so good. This past weekend, I had the chance to try out Flaming Ox with a few friends. I ordered their dry traditional beef noodles, and we ended up sharing an order of their popcorn chicken and chilled egg plant appetizer. After placing your order on the app, the food is prepared quickly out of the kitchen. In total, our party waited no more than 10 minutes for all our dishes to be ready. I enjoyed the texture of the thick noodles here, but they're not the most QQ noodles I've had in the Bay. They are very generous with how many pieces of beef shank are included in the bowl of noodles. The pieces of beef are seasoned well and cooked perfectly: just the right amount of chew, without being fall apart tender -- exactly how you would find beef prepared if you order a bowl of beef noodle soup in Taiwan. I have no notes on the popcorn chicken: hot, crispy, and juicy, and you have a choice of three sauces to go along with it when you place your order. I had a chance to take a bite of the minced pork belly rice plate my friend ordered and the pork belly in it was aromatic, and melt-in-your mouth tender. This is an overdue review for Flaming Ox, I took a look at pictures in my phone and realized today is actually 30 days from my first visit here. So let's get started!! We came about 20 mins before lunch closing and the restaurant was still super busy, which is always a good sign. Luckily we only waited a few minutes before getting seated. The space is bright and cute, and I really liked the open kitchen and the ox logo on the wall. We got to try the Firecracker Fries, Spicy Shrimp & Pork Wontons, and the Traditional Beef Noodle Soup with thick noodles. The Firecracker Fries were definitely my favorite. Crispy outside, soft inside, flavorful with a little kick, and honestly addicting. The wontons were soft and packed with filling, although sweeter than spicy to me personally. The beef noodle soup was really comforting. Broth had a nice herbal flavor, noodles were chewy, and the beef was tender. The regular size was actually huge, enough for us to share and still have leftovers to bring home. Service was fast and friendly, we literally the last table there but they really took good care of us. I've had Flaming Ox bookmarked for awhile, but had the opportunity to give it a try through one of Yelp's Community experience. We got the choice to get the fried or boiled wontons (got the boiled), firecracker fries and then we added on a bowl of mala spicy noodles and an egg. Wow! Service was quick & friendly. Food was so good! Everything was so flavorful. The fries were crispy and garlicky. The wontons were perfect, little pillows of meat! The noodles were chewy, meat was tender and overall bowl was well balanced. Also, the egg was a nice touch! Even though there were extra condiments on the table, I didn't feel the need to use any of it. My boyfriend and I are now fans! This is truly one of my favorite restaurants that I can keep coming back to often. The prices are decent for such flavorful and delicious bowls of noodles. I usually get one of the beef noodle soups, which are fantastic!! The soups are so flavorful, and the beef is always tender with a good amount of tendon and meat. This time I got the traditional dry noodle, which is basically a dry version of their noodle soup. It was equally flavorful but in a more intense way, more oily, and with several thick beef slices. You can choose thin or thick noodles, and the thick noodles worked pretty well here for picking up the sauce. The chili oil is a great addition and adds good flavor. I just wish they included more of it in the takeout container. I also wish the portion of veggies was larger. This was a pickup order and it was ready in a reasonable amount of time. My friends and I love trying new places and couldn't pass up the opportunity to try the Flaming Ox. I found this spot one day as I was passing by this complex on my way to work. We went in right at 11:45am and were surprised to find people in there. As we sat there and waited for our food; it got quite busy and loud. But the turnover is quite fast, so the wait times tend to be less than usual. We ordered the scallion pancakes, 3 different lunch meals, friend pork & shrimp wontons and firecracker fries. I ordered the traditional Mala lunch set with small belly rice (it's a lunch special in the bottom middle square). One of my friends ordered the lunch special #2, traditional mala with cucumbers. And my other friend ordered the mini belly rice set. The beef in our traditional mala was so tender that you could break it apart by picking it up with your chopsticks. The belly rice was amazing! FYI, Parking could be a challenged during lunch rush so if you find a spot once you enter the lot from street, take it. I was craving for a warm soup on a chilly winter afternoon, so I got the Traditional Taiwanese Beef noodle soup with a side of their signature chili oil. My wife just got a side of Fried Pork Chop as we were sharing both dishes. My son got the Popcorn Chicken Rice Bowl Plate. This place was as I expected, but in a good way. All the dishes were 5 stars! The beef noodle soup was perfect, with a really flavorful broth and many large pieces of tender beef. The pork chop was crispy outside and juicy inside. The chicken also crispy with just the right amount of spices was delicious. The sides of signature chilly oil and seasoned egg that came with them made them better tasting. The Passion Fruit Green Tea and Jasmine Green Tea were refreshing cold drinks. I wish that they had hot tea on the menu though. The service was pretty quick with a very friendly crew. I went here on a Saturday evening in a party of 3 and didn't need to wait. I ordered a Mala Beef Noodle Soup with the thick noodles and green onion pancakes. I like how clean the interior is. It has a polished and modern look. One downside is that the chairs and booths do not have cushions. While I was eating I noticed that a lot of takeout orders being fulfilled, so that's something I might explore in the future. They have both laminated menus and QR code menus. I ordered with the QR code and the food came within 5 minutes. Tableside condiments include salt, white pepper, vinegar, chili, and soy sauce. They were cooked with good flavors soaked in and yet not overcooked that the meat tasted dry and rough. It was wonderfully done. The veggie were chopped into smaller pieces and I skipped the pickles. The portion was just right for me. Although it came with a side chili oil, it was not too spicy and I could even handle it. The only thing I wasn't sure about is if the portion was good enough for my husband. I visited Flaming Ox with my husband over the weekend. It was lunchtime so I expected the plaza, which is shared with a City Sports Fitness, is typically crowded but it seems to have mellowed out a bit in recent years. The parking was still a little crowded closer to the restaurants, but we managed to find a parking spot nearby and noticed a small queue in front of Flaming Ox. A few parties joined a waiting list so that they could be seated do my husband and I also joined with an expected wait time of 10-25 minutes. While we waited, we visited the iTaiwan, a small Taiwanese snack store next door. Even though the wait time was estimated as 10-15 min, our table was ready around 5-7 minutes and we were given a small table at the side of the restaurant. The server gave us a pitcher of water and glasses for us to drink and let us know we could order via the QR code on the table. I ordered the beef broth soup and my husband ordered a traditional beef soup with extra noodles for an additional charge. Our soup came out quickly and the soup broth was very rich and flavorful. The slices of beef were thick, perhaps 1cm, and very juicy and tender. The soups were also served with some chopped up pickled veggies which added an additional dimension to the overall flavor profile of the soup. For those that want to add a few more spices, there is chili oil, white pepper, salt, and vinegar at each table. We were also given a spicy chili oil to dip our meat in, which gave our soup more heat and an extra kick. I brought my mom and aunt to Flaming Ox, and they loved it. I ordered the bone broth soup with the shirataki noodles (a great low-carb option!), while they had the thin noodles. The broth was rich and deeply flavorful. The beef was incredibly tender--my 80-year-old aunt had no trouble chewing it at all. Even the tendons had a perfect texture and weren't overly chewy. The water spinachwas lightly sauced and served as the perfect fresh side to balance out the meal. The service truly set this experience apart. Our server was so kind and attentive, especially toward my aunt who is in a wheelchair. It's rare to find a place that feels this genuinely welcoming. Came to Flaming Ox after purposefully searching out some good Taiwanese food for the South Bay. Food came out expeditiously after ordering which made us wonder a bit but overall, boyfriend gave it his stamp of approval stating that it brought back a lot of Taiwan nostalgia. We shared the traditional Taiwanese beef noodle soup with thin noodles. The broth was sufficiently beef and the pieces of shank were melt in your mouth tender. I also liked how the pickled vegetables were presented on a spoon to the side, quite traditional. My only comment against the dish was that all our vegetables were all of the bottom stems, not exactly the best part of any vegetable. We supplemented the noodles with some Taiwan classics. The soy threads were really tasty and the right flavor. It was refreshing for the warm day! The century egg with tofu was good but they used firm tofu so it didn't quite hit the mark as this dish ought to use silken tofu. Having said that, the flavor was still really good! Dined here about 2 weeks ago on a Saturday evening with a couple of friends. We came right at opening time of 5:00pm to avoid a possible wait. Two of us enjoyed the spicy beef noodle soup while another got no spice beef noodle soup. We also for the popcorn chicken and cucumbers to share (both were tasty and cucumbers were a lot better than another well known place). The beef noodle soup had huge pieces of meat in it as well as plenty of noodles. I think it may have been too early for my dinner as I only finished a little over half and ended up taking the rest home. Definitely made for a good meal the next morning! I like that they have the condiments you can add on the side. The satay was really good. Advise you to use sparingly as it was pretty spicy (different spice from the soup). I'd come again during cold weather as it def hit the spot! read more
