I was VERY disappointed in the service at your cafe on Milan Road in Sandusky, Ohio, tonight. My husband and I are traveling from Chicago to Northern Virginia, and stopped in Sandusky for the night. My husband has Parkinson's, and has limited mobility, using either a walker or a cane. We ordered our food, and I gave Darrius a decent tip. We sat down close to where we ordered because of my husband's limited mobility. We ordered to go, since I didn't want to drive to the hotel after dark. Our order sat on the counter for a while, until I realized that it had to be ready by that point. I was surprised to find it sitting out on the counter, with the soup and hot sandwich getting cold, and my husband's energy refresher getting warm! When I asked why they didn't give us a heads up that it was ready, they said, "Well, we called your name a couple of times, and you didn't answer." WE WERE THE ONLY PATRONS IN THE RESTAURANT!! And none of the four employees that were there could bother to stick their head around the corner to let us know that the order was ready?? When I questioned Darrius, he said, "I don't know, I'm just making the sandwiches." When I asked to see the manager, Catherine ("Cat"), she echoed his comment of, "Well, we called your name." When I asked for at least an apology, she looked at me without expression or comment. I have NEVER been treated in a restaurant like that before. And, once again, WE WERE THE ONLY PATRONS IN THE RESTAURANT!! I have never seen a Panera Cafe run this poorly. To top it off, when we got to the hotel, they had forgotten the chips. This was by far the dirtiest fast food restaurant I've ever been in. The booths were smeared with stuff, dirty tables, dirty seats. Overflowing dirty plate rack. I didn't even want to sit my drink down at the drink station everything was so dirty and sticky. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. I ordered a drink, gave my name for them to call out when ready. I waited & waited. I went up to the counter & there were several items on the counter. I saw warm drink, it had no label, no attached order slip, nothing to identify who's and what it was. A worker turned talking with other workers was near the counter. I said "excuse me, how do I know if this is my drink?" The employee said "it's a chai tea". I then said "how would I find out if this was my order?" The employee responds "well, it's the only chai tea up here" It was rude. And honestly I have no way of knowing who else ordered what in what order. The workers were very friendly and welcoming! The facilities and food were where it went downhill. My flatbread pizza was very well made but my partners soup was not very appetizing. The facilities had one urinal and one stall that were under cleaned. With a few minor improvements I believe it could gain more customers. read more

What happened? We came in without being greeted, which I thought was unusual, but there were a lot more employees than customers, a lot. I ordered a bagel but was not asked if I wanted any cream cheese or anything, nor toasted. I did. He asked for his specific order, seeing how they didn't want to put forth any effort with mine. We went to sit down and we're trying to stay away from the two (!) other tables that had people-not a single (useable) table was clean! This was at 9am. This was probably the worst service I've ever seen. I ordered 2 sandwiches, through the takeout window, one of which was an avocado blt. I asked specifically if they were out of avocado because last time they were but didn't tell me. They told me they had some. I get to the window and they hand me a big bag with only one sandwich. If I didn't look I would've been swindled. While they went to check to see if they were missing my other sandwich I opened the other sandwich and discovered there was no lettuce or avocado. Well, nothing was working properly for me during my visit.. I wanted to order something from lunch many, around 10am and I was told that lunch many is not available, even that is the policy of Panera and they have a huge sign hanging behind the counter saying that lunch and dinner is available all day... Then I changed my mind and had a couple of bagels, but they didn't have any of those I ordered ( common bagels like multigrain and everything). Ok I changed my mind again and took a smoothy... That I had to wait for 22 minutes with only two tables taken in the whole place... Apparently it was some kind of internal fight among the employees, one of them end up crying in the dining room... Horrible service, horrible presentation of food, staff has a bad attitude. We stopped for breakfast, and they were not busy. We were told to wait by the cashier who said the staff made our order incorrectly. We had no problem waiting, actually appreciated the cashier informing us, but after waited 15mins for them to remake the order they ultimately brought a burnt sandwich (entire bun was black and hard as a brick) missing ingredients and the spinach was slimy, the other sandwich was soggy with only 2 of the ingredients, 2 small coffees that was full of coffee grounds. When we brought it to the staffs attention we were told they were out of ingredients and that we were told so when ordering (we were not). There was zero acknowledgement of the errors and the staff was rude. There was no attempt to correct any part of the order. Show some pride in your work or at the least just be kind. read more

We've driven to Sandusky from Port Clinton twice in the last month. The first time we couldn't get the chicken wild rice soup because their soup mschune was broken. We did get an alternate item but drive over for the soup. The second time we went they had no chicken wild rice soup and they did not have the alternate meal we would normally get- teriyaki broccoli chicken bowl- said they were out. I am in shock! We chose Panera because it is a go-to when we can't find some place on which the family agrees. What in the world is going on in this location? We went for dinner at 7:30pm. There was 1 table of customers. 2 more besides us before we left. My daughter ordered a bread bowl with a baguette. They were out of bread bowls and out of baguettes. My husband ordered his sandwich. They were out of flat bread. I was not given a choice of bread for my sandwich except panini or white. We swore we were on candid camera. REALLY! A BREAD COMPANY WAS OUT OF BREAD. None of us had a choice for side items. All 6 received chips. The food we did receive was not Panera quality. The staff was clearly not interested if customers were there. Am I the only one who leaves Panera Bread still feeling hungry? I suppose that's my problem. I can't fault Panera as their Pick 2 let me enjoy a tomato bisque and roast beef sandwich that were beautifully prepared and did wonders for my palette. Wifi is a welcome amenity to the restaurant, although I did not use it for this work lunch. The staff are pleasant and lead you through the maze of options when you decide to order a sandwich. The experience is similar to a sub shop, but you're not eying the sandwich as it prepares for a journey through your digestive tract. The turkey sandwich was bland, the bread was soggy and tasted old, and the steak and white cheddar panini was undercooked, and was smothered in a lukewarm horseradish sauce that was just too much, and tasted gnarly. I do not recommend. The only thing good is there cookies. But the soup and sandwich are supposed to be the stars. The French onion soup lacked cheese and tasted sour also like it was put in the fridge while hot and then reheated in the microwave, had a sour taste to it. Literally the WORST service I think I have ever experienced in my life. There was an elder man waiting in line to get his food, but you could tell he didn't know how the restaurant inside worked. While he was waiting in line for his food, the MANAGER literally SCREAMED in his face and told him to back up. I have ordered online from the Sandusky Panera for a couple of years. For the last few months every one of these orders is either incorrect or below expectations. When I order online Sprouted Grain Bagel Flats I request they be split in half; every time they are not split or they are split in an odd angle. Yet, these bagels are used in the Avocado, Egg White & Spinach and they are split in two perfect halves. Same problem happens when I order Sprouted Grain Roll. Fridays I sometimes order (online) Avocado, Egg White & Spinach to be picked up for breakfast Saturday. The last two times there was just one slice of a wooden-consistency avocado; the last time, the egg that I requested over-easy was hard. On July 4th I ordered (online) Soba Noodle Broth Bowl with Edamame and four Sprouted Grain Bagel Flats. The bowl was mostly noodles with some edamame thrown in and a little bit of thickish broth that tasted burned and four Sprouted Grain Rolls instead of the bagel flats! I called the cafe to complain and could not reach anyone. When I complained in an email this was the answer: "Order accuracy has to be more of a focus for our associates at the cafe and the cafe needs to be answering the phone outside of their peak hours to make sure customer concerns and issues are addressed in a timely manner." Every time I have complained by email I get a lame C&P apology and some kind of freebie. I am also constantly assured that my experience will be "addressed with the cafe by the local leadership team overseeing the cafe," which clearly did not happen, since the problem continues. The last time the emails were signed Brad. I repeatedly asked Brad's last name and he refused. When I go to the store and place an order, I give them my phone number--as instructed on Panera website, since I don't own a cell--but they can never find me in their own network. Coincidence? As if all this was not enough, today I tried several times to log in to my account and got this "Login failed, please check your username or password." Yet the information I entered was correct. I start to feel these things are being done intentionally. If not, why are all my orders always be incorrect or carelessly filled? read more

At our most recent visit we ate inside for supper and we had a good experience. The inside of the Panera Bread was very nice and was clean. Our food was fresh, fast, and tasted good. We have been to this location numerous times and never have been disappointed. We have tried the soups, salads, sandwiches, cookies, and coffee, and all were good.
