I placed a rapid pick up order tonight. When I went to pick it up it wasn't on the shelf. The past couple of times I've tried this I have no way of knowing if my food is ready. There is not a time I have gone here where my order didn't get messed up somehow. The latest was they gave me the wrong salad and messed up my sandwich. Somehow deleting tomatoes on my order meant I wanted extra tomatoes. They need to get their act together. I love Panera, but this particular Panera (College Dr. in Suffolk, VA) has the worst customer service in the entire Hampton Roads area! There's ALWAYS an issue with my order. From my order being all the way incorrect to the employees playing around with the utensils they were going to use to serve my food! The only reason I continue to patronize this Panera is because it's the closest location to me, unfortunately. I have all intentions on contacting headquarters to see if they can build a Panera in Western Branch/Chesapeake Square with a new management team. Clean ingredients. Nutritious. No antibiotics in any of their meats. All calories listed visibly so you can make informed choices. This is a commitment I can get behind yet the thing is, to my husband's great disappointment, I never took to Panera. What? It didn't make sense because this is how I like to eat. I put my mind to it and decided I am going to find something I really like. I managed to find two things I love by using the kiosk (no pressure, good pictures and customizable). The kiosk! You browse, you choose and customize, you pay and take a tracker so they can bring it to your table. Yes. I found the roast beef and arugula with pickled onions, garlic spread, on asiago bread (either cold or panini pressed) is awesome. Add a side of the new beet and quinoa salad, fabulous. So good. This is for any Paneras with these cheap out changes: we used to love Panera. Still enjoy their food and bagels. However they are obviously on the cheap as there have been some changes that have brought my Panera experience down. First they shrunk the size of the whole grain baguettes to a small bun. Then they shrunk the size of the delicious orange scones down to less than 1/2 of the original size and third, now I find when you get a .99 pastry with entree it only includes cookies - no more scones! The scone size is like two bites and should only be .99 anyway. The meals are still delicious but Where Panera used to be our first choice spot for quick meals, especially when in the road, It has gone down a number of notches with these changes. read more

I really enjoy the food here. The service seems to be OK as well. I find that the tables are consistently dirty. Also the area where you take your tray when you're done is usually littered with dirty dishes as well. I'm all for saving the planet but can we find a better system to dispose of our waste especially at these prices? read more

The lack of good customer service by management and consistency in receiving what you order at this location is what brings this review down. They are very slow at this location, so I always order online through rapid pickup. I can judge consistency in food since I always get the same thing and only once has the items I've ordered been in my bag or the items be made the way I requested them to. Most of the time I inform them of the mistake, they apologize and they fix it...no biggie. But on a recent occasion the manager argued with me saying the way I received it is how it should be made. I informed him this was incorrect and he would not back down to fix it. I asked for my money back and he asked if I wanted to keep the food since he would just throw it away anyway. No...why would I want something that is not made the way I wanted it to be? The managers here need better training on their own customer service claims that they will always make it right and the associates need better training on making the food...being busy is not an excuse. read more

Dined a few days ago (actually Thursday to be exact) during a late lunch. Not busy-I was first in line-more than half of the restaurant was empty. Customer service was friendly at both the register and w the food being dropped off at my table. I sat at table 24, a table for two against the window. Mid-way through my meal I notice a slew of ants crawling the windowsill space and up and down the wall below the window. I was halfway through my meal-which tasted good-until observation of the army below me. Oh, but those ants...the thought still grips me when I'm craving a Panera sandwich or salad. Here I am two days later still thinking about those darn ants and I can't go back. You would understand had you been at that table and you have to literally stop chewing bc of the gag reflux those little devils created. Panera, you let me down. There is no excuse for the uncleanliness of your restaurant. The area where the ants were feasting was no surprise to me as I saw the small crumbs that invaded the crevices of where the carpet meets the wall and the windowsill space. Obviously, there's more of these than meets the eye. What other creepy crawly creatures did I not see? Your establishment NEEDS a serious deep cleaning. read more

Food remains good, but location going downhill. There is always food and trash on the floor behind the counter (in the food prep area) in direct view of every customer ordering at the registers. The smell (funk) by the drink station continues to get worse. The seat covers are torn, and the carpets are well overdue for a cleaning. I also I can't believe management has allowed this location to go downhill so quick. After they deliver the food to the tables, I watch the food runners walk by overflowing bus-pans of dirty dishes at the trash cans. This is clearly a training issue. The increasing amount of flies on the bake goods are also a bit nasty. Might be time for some new management. read more

Came the other day and didn't get my drink completely filled. If I'm paying $3 for a drink fill it completely. Also there was over 7 items marked off the menu so I had to resort to something different since you can't turn around in the drive thru. The sandwich I got was disgusting which was the Cuban and it had a lot of mustard on it on certain areas. read more

The one thing that I expect from this franchise is consistency. I've been here a few times so I can say this with confidence. This place just needs to focus a little bit more on detail. The food has always been great and any corrections needed have been done. I'm also used to the staff being a little bit happier. That's for some, not all of them. It's not the worst by far but for the money I pay I expect more. I will say that because of it's location they get a lot of lunch time traffic. All in all I'm a fan of their Cobb salad, panini sandwiches and green tea. read more

Just a quick update to my review since it has been over a year: Food still remains delicious at this location. Customer service needs training. When you have customers staring at you ready to order you do not keep restocking the bagels lol. Stop what you are doing and tend to them. And find a better way to tell them where the line starts--don't be rude. This place is already expensive enough. I'll be more than happy to take my $15 for lunch elsewhere. I don't think you can really go wrong with Panera. Granted, they might be a little pricier than, say - Subway, but the bread is oh so nom nom. Being right down the street, I frequent this place quite often for lunch. The norm is the pick 2 - usually a chicken cob or chicken Cesar salad and the half roast beef asiago. If I'm feeling a little froggy, I go for the cheddar broccoli soup instead of the sandwich. In any case, the food is always delicious, fresh and made to order. Regardless of the line length, I'm normally in and out in a reasonable time......which is awesome because I hate waiting. read more

Three stars because the terrible gritty low fat cream cheese brings the score way down. I normally get store bought cc but recently got the honey and walnut cc. Totally ruined the bagel with the grittiness. I understand clean food, etc. Etc. But when your first reaction after eating something is to spit it out, there's something very wrong. Everything else is always delicious at Panera, but cream cheese is a major part of the bagel experience. My turkey avocado blt was good as usual but my niece's baguette she received with her meal was absolutely burnt. When asked if we could receive a "lighter" piece we were told they all look the way hers did. It's unacceptable. She could only eat the inside, the outside was rock solid hard. Love this place. Ive found panera across the boards- all the same. Free wifi, GREAT VARIETY and friendly staff. This location in particular exemplifies what you see in the commericials. Food is always great and staff always smiling. It is adjacent to tjmaxx, rue 21& wally ( walmart).. ( great for when im taking a studying break!). I study there often and staff never gives me those evil " you're here too long" kinda looks ! My only con about this place- its PRICY. I mean for a chain, a full meal will go for approx 13$ ( incl soda and dessert).. but still. I guess i feel the pinch since im there so often. Their frozen mocha is awesome and whats nice is that its made the exact same way, every panera i go to. ( a ton of calories but who's counting, right?) Plenty of veggie options too which is really great for my no-meat thursdays :) Also, this is the only panera ive seen where a staff member will come to your table and take your tray away ( after politely asking of course.). The manager ( weekday afternoons that ive noticed) is always so nice, he's always walking around doing something ( not idle like i see a lot of managers elsewhere) .. many times he mans the cash register too. This place is one where, if you are in a rush, have an appointment or just wanted some great bread to soothe a bad day, skip going. Have been to this place three time and order a caesar salad with extra cheese and croutons that I have to pay for. Each time the order wasn't right. The last time I put in a order for a salad and a hot drink. Well I had to drive 12min to get there plus drop a friend off at the car dealership close to restaurant. I pull up and push that I'm here. I sat in my car for over 10min whatching the employee play around and talk. I had to call in then my order was brought out to me. I pull away but stop to check my salad and of course it wasn't make correctly so as I head to the other store I call and ask to speak with a manager I was told she was busy so I ask could they take my number a return the call. Well who every ask the phone would not do that after repeated request the manger get on the phone and I explained my orders is always wrong she just said uh-huh. No sorry or if you come back we can fix it. I express maybe I need to call corporate she really didn't care. So I decided to return my food and get my money back that also didn't go easy. On top of questioning me why I want my money back the manger was not even wearing a mask. Never will I go back there again. The restaurant needs to hire someone who know how to run a business and talk to customer. I think I should wait until I return to Maryland for some great Panera food and service. read more

My wife and I had a late lunch at this location this afternoon. We both ordered the 'Pick Two' with a half salad and have sandwich. The Sierra Turkey sandwiches were both ok with good tasting and fresh bread. I could have used a bit more Mayo but that is a personal taste thing. My wife's Classic salad was ok while my Greek was a bit disappointing. I would have liked more than two olives and there was way too much cut up Romaine stalks to consider it to be a great salad. We both just had ice water. (Refills were free) Not being regulars we were given plenty of time to decide what we wanted but then again it would have been nice to have received a little more suggestions from the person behind the counter. You can't get sales without selling. The food was prepared fairly fast and since there were few people eating at that 'between' hour it was pretty quiet. Overall not a bad lunch experience but, I have ate lunch a far better places as well. Chains just seem to not have that extra touch that some of the local places have. read more

Here is what I will say about Panera. I really liked them when they first started. I think they are starting to get a little run down now and will soon have to start remodeling their locations. I always get the pick two. I have noticed over the years that the portions have gotten smaller for the sandwiches. Not like I need any more food, but often I will share my meal with my kids. Now I have having to order them their own meal, not because they are getting any bigger, but it is because of the smaller portions. I think the soups and salads are always solids. I have coffee there every once in a while and it is good enough. The pastries and breads are my achilles heal. I had a bear claw there with a cup of coffee and I loved it. This location is fine, but it does get crowded at lunchtime and dinner. I like it that my kids can eat a healthy meal here and I dont have to feel bad about it. read more

We have been ordering delivery during much of the pandemic, and they routinely leave items out of the delivery. In spite of lots of patience and gentle calls to management advising them of these problems, it doesn't get better. Today, $15.00 of pastries were left out, and there was no answer at the shop when trying to call to resolve it, and the full amount paid. As much as I wanted to work with them as a local in the neighborhood, there's no point. They simply don't care, don't improve, and keep money for goods they don't deliver. When I asked Jean for extras he was so happy to oblige even if he had to go back inside since I did the rapid pick up. Yes I think he is suppose to do his job but in this world not everyone does their part especially with a smile. Decided on Panera because it's usually pretty good. It's fast food, so I always keep that in mind. It wasn't particularly busy, but the store was absolutely filthy. The floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned EVER. Carpeting throughout and high traffic areas were practically black. Tables were crumby and dirty. Dish drop-off was full and unsightly. The MANAGER brought our food to the table, and handed me a greasy knife. When I took it back she had her phone out and was talking to another worker. I asked, "Can I trade this in? It's super greasy." All I got was a quick "Sure!" And was handed a new one, then she went back to her phone. No apology, no acknowledgement of the issue. I'm not one to complain, but if this is how they handle the parts if the store that customers see, how do they run their kitchen? read more

This was the first time my wife and I had eaten at Panera's. We had dinner at this location. She had the half Mediterranean sandwich and I had the Steak and white cheddar Panini. The food, service, cleanliness of dining area and staff were exceptional. Other customers were served in a timely manner by an appealing staff. We had a pleasant visit and delicious food. As far as quality of food is concerned, it's consistent with most Panera chains. But, if you are hoping to receive quality customer service with your food, please look elsewhere. This one is the closest location to us, but now I prefer to spend money at a different location after a rather unnecessary experience. First, my wife and I along with my mom and our two boys were at this location at 8am and the side entrance was still locked. Second, I usually prefer to use the fast lane kiosks or order online from the table, but noticed all the fast order tablets were still uploading. At 8am on a weekend with no caffeine and two hungry toddlers, it would help to have a friendly face that is quick to take your order and answer some pretty basic questions to the point. I have a two year old that has severe asthma and dairy allergies that trigger breathing problems. Had a simple question, do you have dairy in your oatmeal? For reasons I don't understand, she found the question amusing and went about asking her fellow staff if there is dairy in the oatmeal and cracking them up. To top it off, her manager (Kim) had no idea herself and resorted to, it comes in a packet - we don't know! Gosh, sorry to trouble you with a food allergy question about your packed food but I am glad I made your day! Next time, I'll bring Quakers oatmeal packet and save you the trouble! I've been to this Panera on numerous occasions. Each time its in hopes that it will be better then last time. Just went this morning with my little family and ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches. I was then informed they were out of EGG. The previous time i came, they couldn't make coffee and it was like that for a couple days. We won't be coming back. If customer service was the only thing that mattered, we would come all the time. Every single time we have come here, there has always been some sort of issue. Great location. Can get VERY busy during lunch. I love the fuji apple chicken salad. I also love panera's smoothies but they are loaded with sugar. The take home portions in this location are average. I always ask for extra dressing! Great location to meet up for SAHMs as well. Grab a big table and set up shop with your strollers. The thing I appreciate about Panera bread is that they are consistent. Your Thai chicken salad taste the same every time, the place is always clean and the service is always great. The food is all made clean so if your on a diet this is a safe place to eat. Their coffee is smooth and flavorful and the chairs are great to relax and enjoy your meal. I haven't eaten inside of a Panera in years. I ordered the kids turkey and cheese lunch with an apple on the side and a bowl of cheddar broccoli soup. I told the cashier to give me a few moments because I hadn't been there in a while. She was friendly but not very helpful . I ordered my food for dine in and wasn't told where to go. It took 15 minutes for my sandwich and soup and it wasn't even busy. I kept seeing a server with a confused look on her face , she finally asked me after a few minutes my name and what I ordered. I was told I should have seated myself. Lol ! That would've been nice to know. I also asked for water but was later told I could get that myself at the beverage counter. The surrounding tables were dirty. So I seated myself at the one with the least crumbs. I wanted to leave but my 2 year old was hungry so I toughed it out. I would suggest Panera slice the apples because most kids don't just bite straight into an apple, this caused another trip to the front counter to humbly ask for a knife. The soup was good but not worth the shenanigans.My daughters sandwich was dry I guess I had to ask for condiments too. This food trip was the equivalent of going to a fast food burger joint. Takeaways: Just work on customer service period. Panera isn't cheap considering it's mostly bread and soup. I won't be going back to that location. read more
