My cuz & me were on our way to a Foxwoods show. We were in the mood for Panera bread & it was kind of close by. We wanted something fast (so we thought) b/c we didn't have much time. I ordered a you pick two. I picked a southwest chicken ranch salad. I skipped the ranch & swapped it for balsamic vinaigrette on the side. I like putting my own dressing on my salad. The 2nd pick was their famous cheese broccoli soup. I went to the bathroom real quick after ordering. The bathroom wasn't in the best shape. I came out & looked @ the order screen. There were about 10-12 orders in front of me & it wasn't moving. I was losing it a bit b/c I had a show in 50 mins(we were about 20 mins. away). I wanted to get a refund but my cuz didn't. She wanted to wait b/c she hadn't ate dinner. We waited about 30-35 mins. For our order. I was beyond pissed. Another 25 mins. To eat. Yeah I def made it to the show late & I wasn't a happy camper. Went to the Waterford location today. My wife ordered a sandwich. We sat at a table and waited for 18 minutes but still her name wasn't called. I proceed to the pickup counter and ask if they had an order for my wife. The girl at the counter said very nicely that it was coming right out. However, the guy also at the counter said that if it was ready he would have called our name. I said the only reason i ask was because we had waited 18 mins. I ask why he felt a need to say that in a very arrogant manner. He told me i was acting like a jerk. I ask his name; he said Fred and he was the general manager. Wow you must be kidding. I can't say I am a huge fan of Panera Bread, as I am not a fan at all of most fast food or chain restaurants, but when you're in middle-of-nowhere Connecticut and starving, this place will do... It'll do just fine. The creamy tomato soup is actually pretty good, if the Cobb salad had some disturbingly spongy eggs and chicken. The service is organized and friendly, even in a crowding situation. My favorite part is their selection of Republic of Teas, which is nice. When I arrived to pick up the order, the bag was already sealed to go. As I looked at the order I noticed it said dark roast iced coffee with milk. So I asked the girl at the desk about the drink. She told me "The iced coffee was in the container to my left". A customer overhears us and tells me the milk was up front. Kinda confused I put milk, not knowing how much and filled the rest with the iced coffee. I then asked the general manager if this was normal for a courier to fill a customers order and he said to me you make 23 percent and you work for me. Give us this day our daily Quinoa :: Stopped in for breakfast day after a blizzard and place was empty and quiet almost like a library; albeit a library playing soft Chopin Impromptu with a faux fireplace. Ordered the very new age egg white, avocado, and spinach bagel. To my surprise it was absolutely delicious. The egg white was perfect,with a perfect slab of fresh avocado and topped with fresh steamed spinach. The whole grain bagel was expertly toasted as well and the sandwich didn't fall apart on first bite like many breakfast sandwiches. On the menu was also a "Soufflé ". When I asked what it was the friendly cashier told me it was basically a quiche in a flaky crust. She then put it on my tray and gave me one for free and told me to try it and see how I like it. The restaurant is up on a hill from the main road. There is a fair amount of parking in the parking lot. The restaurant was clean and not very busy. The lady behind the counter took the order very pleasantly and efficiently. Ordered the steak sandwich at this location with a tea. The tea is self serve at the back of the restaurant next to the counter where you pick up your order. The sandwich came out in about 5 minutes and was delicious. What has happened at Panera Bread?? Does anyone else notice the quality seems to have fallen. The sandwiches are not as full. When you order a whole sandwich you get two halves that have been made separately. Personally I don't like that. The variety of soups has not evolved. It's the same over and over. They have added a couple new worthwhile salads in the past year but I have to say my expectations for what Panera produces have diminished. The best part of Panera is the quick pick up when you order ahead and prepay and walk in and your food is in the shelf ready to go. Try that service if you haven't yet. It's great. Their crusty bread is consistently delicious but that's where it ends for me. There is one women in particular who is very short with the customers, rude even. I asked what kind of cream cheese they had, as it had been a while since I've ordered breakfast from Panara. She rolled her eyes and pointed to the board. I work in customer service and a small deli, I would never treat my customers like that. Put in a mobile order for 16 people at 12PM, for a 6PM pickup. It was super easy to do online, and when I got there at 5:55PM, they had everything all ready in two large bags. They put it off to the side since the didn't want anyone to bother the food, which I thought was very nice and considerate. I want to first flat out say Panera food is very tasty. My husband and I both enjoy every meal we have ordered. This review is low due to the staff at this location only. Every time and I mean EVERY TIME we eat there the service is painfully slow. It has taken us over 45 minutes to receive our order. The last time I went I thought why not order it online. Try to cut down on the wait time. Got there and they didn't even have my order up yet. I ordered it at 6:00 it still wasn't ready until after 7 pm. By default they never have French baguettes. Ever. Nine times out of ten they will most likely run out of at least two other key ingredients. One time they ran out of two different types of cheese, and tomatoes. I have experience working in the food industry and understand running out of food occasionally or being short staffed occasionally but every single time we visit. That's just too much. We will not be visiting this location for Panera again. read more
