The best food I had in Santa Fe. Diner style service. I had the breakfast burrito and it was pretty good! I decided to sit at the counter since I was by myself, but table seating is also an option. My only complaint is that I waited a long time for my food. It was to the point where customers who came after me got their food before me and even finished before my food came out. However, the staff did acknowledge this after I brought it to their attention and made it right which I appreciated! Definitely recommend the pantry for one of the better food options in Santa Fe. read more

We shared the Chilaquiles and the Blue corn pancakes. OMG, the flavor profiles for both were intense and delicious. The texture of the Blue Corn pancakes had so much more structure than regular fluffy airy regular pancakes that can sometimes turn into a gluten ball in one's stomach. These pancakes were tasty and well structured. The Chilaquiles were amazing! We had both red and green sauces and each had its merits. Spicy, tangy, and a slightly sweet finish for the red sauce was delightful. The green sauce had depth and heat. Both very delicious. Definitely stop here for breakfast. We may try lunch on our next visit to Santa Fe. read more

The portion sizes here are always super generous, which is nice because as good as the food is having some leftovers available for late night munching is a plus. The breakfast is down home cooking with a nice Santa Fe spin of course. Inside it's pretty crowded unfortunately, which makes for a crazy loud atmosphere with lots of chairs bumping into yours as people come and go. So I prefer to go in the off hours for a more pleasant dining experience. The prices are about average for Santa Fe but you get your monies worth. read more

Pantry Restaurant is an insanely delicious New Mexican restaurant located on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico. I think I had one of the best meals of the year here when I stopped in. The place is super cool looking just like an old highway diner with a very retro design, and a classic diner bar with an open kitchen design. When we got there, there was a wait since we were a larger group of 6. No problem, we waited outside and they handed us a buzzer. This place is definitely very popular with tourists and locals alike so be prepared for a wait. I decided to go with one of the breakfast specials of the day which were the breakfast enchiladas. I got them verde/green. I also shared a cinnamon roll with my friends. I'll start with the cinnamon roll because honestly that may have been the best one I've ever had and I was completely not expecting it to be good. It was smothered in a beautiful cream that made every bite so decadent. It was like eating a cloud. Now for the breakfast enchiladas - there were 2 bacon ones and they came with potatoes and beans. The potatoes were seasoned so amazingly, like no other potatoes I've had before. The beans were spot on. And every bite of the enchilada was perfect. Pantry is one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe! Frequented by the locals with a few tourists, we had a great brunch before leaving town. If wed tried it before our last day, we would have come every morning for breakfast. Cinnamon roll is a must have - lots of frosting and huge and made every morning. We also ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs breakfast - big portion of breaded, fried whole muscle steak smothered in their creamy sausage gravy. We went on a Wednesday evening and were surprised to see a live performer singing oldies, beautifully. Think rain drops keep falling on my head, and the crowd singing along, so fun! While the reviews were very good, it was difficult to navigate the menu. I wanted to know more about the restaurant. Perhaps a little history on the front page of the menu. The pancakes weren't anything special and were just fine; I didn't finish them (3/5). The breakfast potatoes were cooked perfectly and had a surprise smoky flavoring that I really enjoyed (5/5). The side of bacon comes with two pieces and was thick-cut and flavorful (4/5). I shared a cinnamon roll with my other half, and it blew us away. Honestly Pantry Restaurant's food surprised me quite a bit! I didn't expect to like New Mexican cuisine because why not just eat Mexican food instead but this place was pretty great. Came on a weekday with a party of two and waited around 10 minutes for a table which is not too bad. We ordered right when we sat down and the food came out quickly which was great! - Brisket Enchilada - I thought the brisket would be quite dry but the meat itself was actually pretty moist which I appreciate. The sauce was a bit spicy which I did not expect. The star of the dish, however, was most definitely the rice which was probably the best Mexican rice I've had - it was slightly spicy and felt like it could be a dish alone. - Fish Tacos - I liked this dish more out of the two as they packed it with so many different ingredients. For the first time, it felt like this was a taco that was very worth eating as it took many bites to finish and I appreciated that they double tortilla-ed it so that the "stuffing" would not fall out as easily. The salsa was also amazing too, I don't know what they put in here but it was great. Again, the rice was mind-blowing. Overall, pretty solid eat in Santa Fe and I can definitely understand why it takes the first spot as the most reviewed restaurant in the City. The service is warm and there's a lot of locals who are regulars which just confirms how great this place is. LOVED THIS SPOT! Our flight into Albuquerque was super delayed and when we landed around 7:30 all we wanted was some yummy Mexican food. I had seen the Pantry and desperately wanted to try, but saw online that they closed at 8:30PM. We thought that we'd give it a try and thankfully they actually close at 9PM! This is a true locals watering hole. I think they even call it the meeting place. It's no frills, seats a ton of people and franks out some awesome food. The food here was absolutely delicious. I got the hard shell tacos (2 beef and 1 chicken) and my SO got the combination plate. Overall it doesn't get better than this if you're looking for a homey New Mexican meal on a night out. Unusually for New Mexican restaurants, the red chile is the way to go here. Incredibly deep flavor, not the stuff that's "just hot" and nothing else. I'd also recommend ordering sopapillas for desert. We didn't play our dining hand well on our first evening in Santa Fe--a Saturday--neglecting to secure reservations anywhere. After we struck out at one restaurant whose dining area was closing at 7:30 (seriously, WTF, Yamas Greek Rotisserie), it was the Pantry to the rescue. We knew it was an old Santa Fe classic, and we mostly found out why. I suppose a carne adovado plate is about as basic as it gets in New Mexico. As a visitor, I don't have any real experience with the dish and no real comparators, but it was for damn sure a big plate of delicious stick-to-your-ribs comfort food. Just some pork slow-cooked in a red chile sauce, rice, beans, and tortillas, each of which just about maxed out the quality given the simple items and relatively modest surroundings and prices. In contrast to the weird recent one-star review about the servers having a "dead look in their eyes" (this guy automatically dishes out one star on Yelp if staff doesn't gush over him and kiss his pinkie ring; check his Yelp oeuvre if you dare), we received attentive, engaging, and friendly service. From a decor-and-atmosphere standpoint, the Pantry is diner-basic and not all that distinctive inside compared its Instagram-ready mid-century-western exterior; on a Saturday evening, it was mostly Latino families and couples having a casual night out. It's got fabulous New Mexican food and the inside of the diner's sunny and welcoming with pictures of the surrounding area. Service is friendly and attentive. Here are some dishes I really enjoyed: -- Grilled chicken green chile cheese sandwich with curly fries: if you want a break from more typical New Mexican fare (and I never do), this is really one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. It's so balanced, spicy, yet tender chicken. -- Green chile smothered pork enchiladas with pinto beans and Mexican rice: This hit the spot. Usually, breakfast is pretty good here, today wasn't one of those days. We sat in the front of the restaurant which is like being in Grand Central at rush-hour. So much noise very poor acoustics and the tables are tight. The servers were nice as was the person who sat us. My huevos dish was OK. But the French toast that was sent to the table was way below par. It was two slices of rainbow bread that were cut on the angle and that's it for over $12. If it was Texas toast, or what a little fruit on the plate I could accept it. But two slices of rainbow bread, not acceptable. I wanted to send it back but the other person on my table declined and was satisfied with it, or so it seemed. I like to go to local places to support local talent but when you're getting ripped off like this, it's hard to even think about going to places like that. read more
