Came here for happy hour and tried everything on the HH menu and every single item was delicious!! The Poblano Fries and the ceviche were my 2 favorite. Drinks are great! One of the best Mexican food hands down here in Long Beach. They never disappoint. Everything I've had here is full of authentic Mexican flavor. This place is amazing! For starts... Ambiance is on point, great energy and service and the food! Great! Best ceviche in the area. I love how the tilapia in the ceviche was prepared. It wasn't over seasoned and drowned in citrus like most ceviches. I could actually taste the freshness! My waiter Sean was well knowledgable on the food and how it is best cooked. I normally don't order quail on the more rare side but I'm glad I took his advice. It was cooked to perfection. The food was so good I had to do desert. I think Panxa is solidly one of the best places to eat. The decor is cool, artsy, and has all the in's and out's of a fine dining eatery. Chilled water, cloth napkins, unique plates, that sort of thing. The food is healthy and real. Not some open-canned, over fried, quick cooked pre-frozen low grade meal. The whole fish, had it once, was delicious. One of the best fish dinners I've had! I'm a big fan of pork. I could gush, but the pork tastes like pork (a lot of times I go to places and that's not the case). Panxa rocks the pork. Pretty much everything is made uniquely. It's not a place that serves greasy comfort food that Mexican and southwestern food has by and large synonymous with. It's cuisine made by pros. The servers are pretty friendly and so far all of them are good at explaining they're food. So awesome! I think this place is going to be another LBC staple soon; 555 or La Opera. It's in a great neighborhood. They got they're act together, the food is awesome, reasonably priced. And the pricier items (steak, speciality margaritas) are totally worth it. read more

I highly recommend this restaurant! When we went, it was a Saturday night and the place was packed. However, we were able to find seats in the bar and got served immediately. The restaurant atmosphere is gorgeous! We ordered a lot of their craft cocktails and love each one. The Plantano New Fashioned and their Pisco Sour were our favorites though. We ate the Ceviche Mixto, Calamari Fries, and the pan seared scallops, all of which were delicious. I definitely will return! read more

I was hoping this place was going to be good because it's so inviting and beautifully decorated. I should have known because I had to get up to let the host know we were ready to order and get silverware. We ordered the Braised Ribs, Queso Quaxa and cauliflower. We got the braised ribs and queso first, we wanted to wait for the cauliflower to eat with the cheese but we were sure how long it would be since the waitress never came back to check on us. It came after we were done eating. By that time I had already told the waitress, who was terrible, to cancel it and give us the check. Overall the queso was excellent. Judging from the reviews and my own experience, the food seems very inconsistent. This review is for the lackluster food only as we didn't get any alcohol. The ambience is very good! Service is fine. The calamari fries ($10) are good, very tender. The short rib enchilada ($12 for just one) is disappointing. There's no pop; just salty. If you were coming here for the enchilada, don't. You're in Long Beach. There are much better options everywhere and Enrique's is so close. Ordered the whole fish ($24), which is a branzino the size of a small trout. The skin was crispy but burnt ashy. The meat slightly overcooked and not much thought was put into the fish itself. Very bland. what a waste of a fish (though small). The pico de gallo topping is sweet but good. Definitely the star of the dish.The creamy rice that comes with is nothing to write home about; again, maybe I'm just spoiled by Enrique's. The crispy chicken skin chips were good, but pricy for amount you get ($4). I mean come on, it's chicken skin. The stuff is basically kitchen scrap. Everything is over priced. Expect to pay way more than you'd like to for the food. Decor is nice though; it's where your money is going primarily. At least you get to enjoy it as the food comes out slow and coke refills are slow too. They do tell you that they have triple filtered tap water, and it does indeed taste good. read more

You know when you have a meal and it feels like you wasted a good dining opportunity? Well, this was one of those times. Unbelievably bad! Ok, drinks were fine but the food is terrible. First, we ordered the potato-cheddar pancakes. They are really balls. The texture reminded me of undercooked shredded potato. Not sure where the cheddar was. Nothing approaching cheese anywhere, just a creamy sauce. Came with chunks of apples that really didn't belong. One minute after the appetizer arrived, they brought our main dishes. When I mentioned that it was way too soon, all the waiter could come up with was, "Oh. Sorry about that." My main dish was Burrata & Pork Adovada. Expected some burrata cheese, which I love, but it was nowhere to be found. Just a little creamy stuff on top. Could have been burrata once but I doubt it. They must have forgotten to make this week's cheese run. The dish was a little pile of stewed pork in the middle of some chemical-tasting black beans and generic salsa. $5 worth of food for $22. Actually, if I had paid $5 for it, it would still have disappointed. The menu has made-up names for dishes with little or no explanation of what it is all about. All I could be sure of was that my dish probably had pork in it. Do the owners or chefs ever eat here? I drive past this place on the way to and from work every weekday. I am going to cringe when I do so for at least a few months. I wish I could get those empty calories back! read more

Got the shrimp rellenos, & they were disappointing. the shrimp were like little frozen ones from the grocery store. It would have been better if they were seared or something. Maybe even bigger shrimp so it's more of a meal. The rice was also a little undercooked. It wasnt bad tho, had good flavor. Overall not worth the money & I wouldn't order again. I've also tried a few other dishes, the enchiladas, a pork dish, and a few more. So after a great experience the first visit to Panxa, our second was less then great. The service was unbelievably slow. From the time we sat until we left was nearly two hours and we ordered within the first fifteen minutes of sitting. The waitress repeatedly stopped by the table to tell us our food would be right out, but after the third time it got really old. We did get a free dessert for our wait, but even the toffee pudding was just ok. We had the enchiladas, the flat iron, and one other dish. The enchiladas were great, but everything else fell flat. We had plans on bringing some more friends who will be visiting in a few weeks to Panxa, but I think we will probably head elsewhere. read more

Love the atmosphere and the food was outstanding! Very friendly vibe- lots of large groups of friends and families with small children but also couples. Not too noisy even when the place filled up. My husband and I shared the charred queso oaxaca dip-delicious but too rich to have before dinner. Would get something lighter next time. He had the stacked enchiladas with short ribs- also very rich. But also delicious! I had the seafood enchiladas- soooooooo good! Went here with my family and my bro's g/f is a vegan. I am a total meat eater so I understand the difficulties of a restaurant to cater to a vegan, but it was pretty difficult for her to just find even a vegetarian dish. I got the ribeye and my bro got the flank steak. I thought my steak was a little on the rough side for medium, maybe it was just a bad cut. My mom ended up eating about half of it and she liked it a lot, so maybe it was just me! My bro liked his flank steak and the spicy margaritas were great! This restaurant has some of my favorite food in Long Beach (and some of the BEST decor too). Everything was on point. The drink menu was unique and extensive. I had the seafood enchilladas and my friend and I shared the poblano rice and the sweet corn. The sides were a little spicy (fine for me but friend thought it was a little overbearing). There was no wait on a Friday night (albeit a rainy Friday night) and the service was good. This is probably the most chic restaurant in LB IMO, it's hard to have a bad time in such a stylish environment. A+++ read more

We were really excited to try this new restaurant in our neighborhood. Unfortunately we think we will have to give it one more shot because this first visit wasn't that great. Made a reservation and was given the crappiest seat in the house to start. It was kind of a bummer to set off the night. We ordered draft beer and chips and salsa to start. It took over 20 minutes to not only get our beers but our chips and salsa. The restaurant was definitely busy but we saw people seated way after us ordering their meal before we even got our drinks. Chips and salsa were delicious and homemade. It took us forever after that to get the chance to order -- but we both ordered enchiladas. I tried mine Christmas style (red and green sauce), but kind of regretted it once I tasted both. The red sauce was way too smokey and dry. The green www on point. Enchiladas were served in your own skillet which was awesome. Get the poblano rice and the pinto beans - they were to die for. Overall food was great except for the red sauce on the enchiladas. Drinks looked great but honestly pretty pricey for what they were- they should be in a $10 range instead of $12 +. Excited that they offer a Michelada on the menu. After all that waiting we incurred we felt like we were being rushed from our table at the end of the meal. It was super aggravating because we had waited SO LONG for our drinks and then again for our food order. We will definitely be back - the food saved the experience. The service was pretty inconsistent and slow. If they try to sit you by the kitchen wait for another table- definitely the worst seat in the house. read more

So far, so good! New Mexican food is not my favorite but I heard that the owner spent time at the famous Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe, which I love, so decided to give Panxa a whirl. And it was all good. The space itself is clean and modern with a southwestern twist. The server and bartender were personable and welcoming. We started with crispy fresh corn chips and 3 salsas, which were all tasty. My friend ordered the Big Ass lamb shank taco which was served on traditional Indian flat bread. I had some and wish I had ordered it. However, I also loved my short rib enchiladas which comes with either green or red sauce or Christmas style, which is what I chose. The red sauce was fresh and rich and much more flavorful than I am used to. The verde sauce was also good and more subtle. I recommend the green sauce on the short ribs so that the flavor of the meat will shine through. We didn't get dessert because we were too full, but maybe next time. I will be back and will be recommending Panxa to my friends. PS they are now open for lunch. PPS Parking is Long Beach-style i.e. In the street and scarce. But well worth the effort! read more
