Ruta 15 Ceviche Bar kept popping up on my Instagram feed and I saved it on my places to try. I finally went this weekend with my cousin who couldn't stop raving about it and now I know why. First off, street parking can be a challenge, but we were able to find a spot right away. It is a very small restaurant, but kudos to the owners and architect who made really good use of the space. When you walk in, it is transformed, and you feel like you are in a whole different environment. The decor, the lighting, the layout, the furniture make this place spectacular and great photo ops. They have a huge TV for watching sports especially the World Cup, which was playing when we got there. They have a bar area. We got there right when they opened so I think the waiter was still setting things up, but was super friendly to us. The manager arrived and helped us since the waiter was still setting up. The manager, Carlos, was extremely friendly and helpful. And another couple walked in to eat, and they were attended to very quickly by the manager as well. We asked for ceviche, although we know they had just opened and breakfast was being served, however they were more than accommodating to get us ceviche. Even the tableware matched everything about this restaurant. I enjoyed the wood piece table wear and the set up. To start, we were brought tostadas. It looked like a couple of them may have been made with nopale, they were green. They included a roasted mild salsa with the tostadas. The presentation of the ceviche was stunning! They gave us a small jar of their salsa macha, which is an oil based red seed chili. It's amazing on everything, but especially on top of the ceviche. The portion was generous. They also gave us more tostadas and crackers. They also have unique desserts, I think I've read they make their ice cream in house and they had flavors like beet and avocado. Definitely need to try the next time I return. I highly recommend this place. I cannot wait to return to try their breakfast and other entrees. It's going to be hard not to order the ceviche as well because it's gotta be the best in the area. Definitely a new fave spot! read more

Third time here and it still does NOT disappoint. Brought the family again and every visit somehow gets better. The food is consistently fresh, full of flavor, and you can tell everything is made with care. From the ceviche to the quesadillas (my daughter gave hers a full thumbs up ), every plate comes out looking amazing and tasting even better. What really stands out is the experience. The service is always welcoming, attentive, and genuinely friendly. You feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. The vibe is lively but still perfect for a family meal, which is hard to find. This has officially become one of our go-to spots in Long Beach. Great food, great people, great atmosphere. Exactly what you want every time you go out. I came to Long Beach for a little food trip and Ruta ended up being our favorite out of the 5 places we visited. The staff were beyond friendly and the decor was modern and fun. To top it all off, the food we had was great. All the fish was fresh as can be with the perfect amount of mix ins. We'll be back for the amazing ceviche! read more

I tried Ruta for the first time today. The restaurant is modern and the service was top notch. Food presentation was elevated. They have lunch specials with affordable prices. This restaurant is all about flavors. The roasted salsa is perfect. It came with 3 types of chips (full tortillas/tostadas). The green tortillas had a delicious nutty/grainy flavor. Cheers to a new seafood restaurant! This small place feels familiar, clean, and welcoming. We enjoyed our meal and recommend checking out the dish photos, though parking is across the street behind a marketplace. Parking is common since the restaurant is on the main street, but it might feel unsafe. Prices range from $20-$40 depending on your order; their specialty is seafood, but they also offer steak. The Maracuya (passion fruit) Mojito is fantastic, and they have beer, tequila, and strong drinks at the bar. For dessert, they have limited varieties, including homemade ice cream with unique flavors worth trying. So when you're in Long Beach, remember to visit Ruta 15 you will love it. FIREEEEE!!! I love the food & drinks here already planning my next visit! The fish was super fresh & paired perfectly w/ the sauce. My friend & I shared a surf & turf taco & omg... the tortilla tasted freshly made, shrimp was tender, & I loved that the toppings (cabbage, tomatoes, green sauce) came on the side so it stayed crispy. Unbelievable!!! If you're debating going here, JUST GO! We got lots of food and drinks, spent $200 (with tip), and loved every bite! The drinks were fresh and well-balanced (he had a classic margarita and I had the mojito with passion fruit {I forgot the name}). Loved it here. Luckily, I came in on a rainy night and didn't have to deal with the lack of parking or even a wait time to be seated. We loved everything we ordered: the aguachile de camarón, oyster and shrimp shots, and mar y tierra tacos. The tacos were served with a side of flour tortillas, which they might make in-house. You get to make your own tacos, or if you're keto, eat right off the plate. The aguachile had the typical ingredients, but the way the veggies were cut was different and honestly a lot better. They serve fun alcoholic drinks like spiked raspados. I don't like tequila, and although I enjoyed the margaritas, they were on the sweeter side. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed with the whole experience here at Ruta 15. I drive by Ruta 15 all the time and decided to try it last weekend, only to be met with a lack of flavor and service. Parking is rough, as there is only $10 valet or street parking. When I was sat down, we were given 4 upright(?) tostadas and a salsa. I legit thought I had COVID because it baffled me how flavorless this salsa was. Server did her best with the busy crowd, but there was like 8 times she passed by our table and didn't check on our drinks or food. She ended up checking on us towards the end of our visit, but I wish she was a bit more attentive. I was seated by the kitchen and I saw our orders were sitting on the window for like 15 minutes before the waitress brought it to us, and my tacos were pretty much cold at that point. Ended up sending it back and got a new order. The tacos were pretty flavorless and greasy. It just tasted like oil and cheese to me. I ended up trying like 3 more salsas and I still can't believe they all sucked. How do you mess up salsa this bad? The mojarra was fine, had a nice texture but was bland as well. My friend ordered the ceviche botana with fish, octopus, and shrimp, and it also had no flavor. He had to add in the salt on his own. BOGO FREE MARGARITAS for Happy Hour! $13 for two margaritas in fun flavors. They aren't the best margaritas in the city, but they are a great price and come with great food. The free chips and salsa are awesome. I got the watermelon, cucumber, strawberry, and mango margaritas. They were boring, but came with fun lollipops. I mainly cam here for the Long Beach Food Scene Week special soft shell crab taco. They were DELICIOUS and I wish that they would keep them on their year-round menu. I ordered the Tacos De Canasta from the happy hour menu and they were delicious as well. I love soggy food and these steamed tacos were great.  I will definitely be back to try more of the menu, specifically the ceviche. Came in for a Friday lunch and got lucky finding parking down the street. There weren't that many people when my friend and I went, so we got to choose our own table by the window. We honestly could have just split the cocacho relleno and been satisfied, but she also wanted the taco perrones. Both were great, although my friend and I realized there were no scallops in the ceviche halfway through eating. The water is also citrus I fused, so I enjoyed that. I came here with a friend for their happy hour and Carlos, our server/host, was so awesome and amazing! We ordered 1 item off the regular menu which was the ceviche with coconut milk. That was so delicious! From the happy hour menu, we ordered smoked tuna empanadas, esquite, traditional ceviche, and some margaritas (2 for 1). The ceviche came with plantain chips, tostadas, and crackers. The drinks were so refreshing and had just enough alcohol. My friend and I were already thinking of the next time we'd be back with other friends. Ambiance is nice with lots of natural lighting, a big screen tv, and a fair amount of seating. Amazing.!! My husband and I eat out a lot at fine dining restaurants and this restaurant top them all in flavor. Omg, if you're in to raw seafood this is your place. We had the mixed ceviche tostada appetizer. All 3 were delicious. I then order the mixed cocktail. It was the best I have had ever in the USA. My husband order the mixed ceviche in a coconut. The place is so pretty and the ambience is nice. If you sit by the window the street gets a little noisy. Wasn't sure if they only offered valet so I parked in a lot next door. The salsa for the table was the blandest thing there but once we added salt it tasted good The ceviche we got was so tasty and literally by just that I would come back to try the others. My first visit to Ruta 15 was to try out their soft shelled crab taco for Long Beach Food Scene week. I was honestly a little hesitant shelling out that much money for a taco, but it was soft shell crab and I kept hearing great things about it. The inside of the restaurant is very cute! There are two seating areas, one by the bar full of high-tops and a few booths in a second area back towards the kitchen. They bring complimentary tostadas to the table as a starter and that green one? Literally stopped me in my tracks. I had to ask the server what it was, because I'd never had a tostada like it. Cactus. So good! When the "taco" came out it was huge. I've never had to eat a taco with a knife and fork before, but I didn't see any other way around this one. The crab was crispy and flavorful, the other toppings complemented without overpowering. It was as good as everyone had said. I went for a weekday lunch and had no trouble parking. Came here for happy hour on a weekday and it wasn't busy. I got incredibly lucky with parking and found a spot right in front of the restaurant. However, it's street parking only and may be really difficult to find spots especially on a busy main street. Service was friendly and the space was clean and well decorated. From the happy hour menu, my friend and I ordered the traditional shrimp ceviche and mini tacos de canasta chilangos. The mini tacos were decent and the ceviche was a tad too spicy for me. Off the regular menu, we ordered the Cocacho Relleno and all the flavors came together so well. Presentation was also on point and wasn't as spicy as the traditional ceviche. Impossible to find parking. Not in the best area...trash all over the street across and lots of houseless folks and people talking to themselves walking by the huge open windows that look out into a main street. Inside is cute. Overall the food is good. Pretty good quality and a lot of interesting variety. They try to make everything a bit more upscale presentation wise. That being said... I would say the flavors are there bit toned down. We had the tacos ahogado and the ruta 15 aguachiles. The salsa that the tacos ahogado sauce was very mild... almost like pupusa salsa...just watery tomato. We tried the ruta 15 aguachiles because it was recommended and we wanted to try something a bit different. It was not spicy at all which you expect from aguachiles. There was mayo it in which really threw me off. The chicharrón in it didn't pair well. Also there was maybe only 5 silvers of onion in the whole thing. Mostly sliced cucumber. The tostadas themselves were really good. The flavor reminded me of Mexico. They gave us salsa macha and salsa habanero when I asked for spicy salsa. The macha had good flavor but wasn't spicy and the habanero didn't have much flavor and was spicy but not really. Cucumber jalapeno margarita was ok. Didn't taste much jalapeno. Not too sweet which was appreciated. The colorín colorado dessert was yummy. The ice creams were spinach/mint/avocado, beet/raspberry and rompope. The ice creams were really good but the pan de elote was a bit hard and chewy. I checked the reviews on Yelp and glanced at a few pics before stopping by on May 22 to celebrate my birthday and based on the reviews I had every intention of throwing down on some fantastic Mexican food. The restaurant is located on an extremely busy street where the parking is difficult to say the least but we found a spot in front. You walk into an eclectic clean restaurant with attentive and kind staff very welcoming. My daughter and I order drinks my drink was delicious but my daughter didn't care for hers a jalapeno cucumber margarita I tried it and it was ok to me I drank hers and mine and got a little buzz that made me smile. Lol 10/10 They didn't have chips and salsa as we see in most Mexican restaurants but he was kind enough to bring us fried tortillas and a "salsa" of sorts it was ok and we appreciated the thought. My daughter didn't find anything she could eat on the menu she's vegan and wanted a drink along with chips and salsa. My plate arrive and I see white sauce and shrimp in a sauce that doesn't look appetizing I taste the shrimp and the sauce(s) and it's an immediate no the shrimp taste fishy I felt bad because what I felt immediately showed on my face and the waiter saw that but what could I do but be truthful without being too unkind unfortunately the shrimp was very fishy. They don't have refried beans or Mexican rice so I went with what they had carrots and green cilantro rice. ( see the pictures) To be fair the shrimp wasn't fresh and the sauces just weren't my cup of tea so for that my review is just for the dish shrimp and sauces. 0/20 Carrots 8/10 were good and the rice 6/10 was ok just not something I would order again. Suffice to say I'm sure I won't be back it's just that I didn't truly realize what type of Mexican food they served I saw so many restaurants on Yelp that day and chose the wrong spot this one is definitely not traditional. My final thoughts. The restaurant has great reviews awesome service it's clean and well cared for I just did not like the food I ordered that's it. We paid the bill and left a tip on the table. Don't take my experience as the norm please visit try the food and form your own opinion we live in times where people will bend the truth to not hurt feelings but I cannot in good faith do that when people are spending their hard earned money. The people working there talked both English & Spanish very friendly and the place looked great. Tried this place on a weekday for Happy Hour. We got lucky and found parking right up front. Not sure if there is a parking lot in the back somewhere but it seems like it's hard to find parking. Not in the greatest neighborhood and traffic is constant since you are on a major street. The noise is loud and unsettling. With that's said, it's night and day when you enter the restaurant. We were greeted and welcomed in for seating. Seated at the bar which we were presented a menu of good Mexican food. Ordered 2 taco special , enchiladas and adult beverages. Received our mixed cocktail drinks of margaritas with Vodka and Tequila. Was definitely refreshing! Received our food a few minutes later. All was fresh! Tacos with rib eye was on point and enchiladas were outstanding. No complaints on the food. This place will make you want more. Overall, this is a hidden gem with great quality presentation of a fine dining presence. Like I said this place will make you ask for more! They don't serve you alot and the prices are alittle bit on the pricey side but the taste and presentation makes up for it. Place is good for high quality find dining Mexican food. Meaning fancy.
